well bad news for you, they've been trying (if at all, got no prove of them trying) for close to 2 decades. And charlie is being a bit soft on this one, prolly afraid of getting ratio'd for not liking anything at all in this game. What game freak does is that they put zelda botw's map and world traversal system, rip out all the things that makes botw looks good and actually enjoyable to go through, and then sprinkle some pokemons in it and kablamo. Don't you even dare mention me about the dialogues, they can't even speak for themselves (there's 0 sound of them talking getit).

I don't think it's a lack of talent, it's more about the time they give themselves to make these games. This game went through what...2 years of development, whereas you can safely say most AAA titles have 4-6 years. No matter how much money you throw at the thing, the game won't be fully fleshed out and polished in that short amount of time.
He didn't say isn't talented enough, he says they lack the talent, as in their team isn't robust and diverse enough to execute on something as grand as the Breath of the Wild of Pokemon. That's the same reason Sonic games are trash, the IP is great but the team is diluted and far removed from the group that made the genesis games.

I really do agree with Charlie at the Beginning when he said this game feels like a Prototype, looking at the Trailers for Scarlet and Violet, It does seem like they're going in this Direction. The way Pokemon exist in the overworld on a Realistic scale. Sword and Shield was the kinda Beta Consent, Arceus is an Alpha concept. And from, again, the Trailers of Sca/Vio The world looks Just that much Prettier than both Sw/Sh and Arceus. Even though It may take me a while to Get used to the new style It's very Pretty.
You can 100% catch a wild alpha just by throwing a pokeball. The snorlax he saw in the video was level 45, so he wasn’t high enough level to have access to the better balls to use for catching. I caught an infernape without battling
you need a certain amount of stars for each alpha to become easier to catch about 5-7 for snorlax, as I think at 5 stars it will not be catchable with anything lower than a great ball
I really hope they use this formula for the next one but bump up the quality in all aspects. Adding more towns with gyms and such would be super dope tbh
It's pretty crazy how bad the graphics came out. That will need the biggest bump. Breath of the Wild did it beautifully. Sure there's some barren expanses, but there's the shadows of passing clouds, the wind effects, and the day night cycle that make it feel great. There should be more interesting Pokémon behaviors too, seeing them doing different things throughout the day.

Hope gamefreak keeps this concept going. With a bigger budget for the next one it could both feel and look amazing. Pokemon collecting is way more fun than it's ever been. Levelling is a more pleasant experience. The music is baller when it actually plays. And I would love seeing more pokemon cities get the jubilife village treatment, it's just nice having the immersion of 3D in a main town.

"The yawn is a bad sign" Nah, it's just...Jubilife theme is the single most sleep inducing theme. It's the ultimate lullaby, and you're kinda forced to listen to it when you return to town. Charlie has a point. As lifeless as the game feels at times, it is very addicting and exciting to engage Pokemon. There is no shortage of encounters and you pretty much speedball Pokemon encounters and captures in quick succession while you're out in the wilderness. It's very fun. Another point he makes. The OST is amazing, but 90% of the time none of it is playing. It's like Minecraft. People say it feels lifeless because of the lack of music.

I know it’s cool to shit on Pokémon cause they haven’t made a good game since the Nintendo DS but come on. This game is a massive step in the right direction at least. Actually didn’t feel disgusted after playing for once.
BDSP was one of my first pokemon games I fully went through and I loved it so much. The problem is, you long time pokemon fans shit on all "modern" pokemon games cause it's the same thing, understandable, but not everyone is a pokemon baby and played and seen all their games.

Platinum was too much of a slog for me and I couldn't enjoy the game almost at all because of all the waiting around I had to do, gen 4 just being a replica of dp but woth the speed of modern pokemon games let me finally be able to see why people like gen 4 so much after me bitching about them for years
Once this game gets emulated on PC and people start modding the hell out of it, its going to be absolutely insane. There's so much potential for this to be a fantastic game.
As the other dude said, its already on ryujinx and runs incredibly well. Even with my 8 year old PC, it only really stutters when theres a new animation/visual effect that the game hasnt used before but other than that they've done a great job with the emulator

I feel like a couple more olive oil, and a bit of copium, and more olive oils then this will have gourmet's stamp of approval. This is the best dish i've ever had since the invention of dishes (i haven't eaten anything in a long time).
I love how the longer the game goes on the less they feel like explaining the balms you throw at the frenzied pokemon. Like, whej fighting palkia/dialga you just get "space balm" out of nowhere with no explanation whatsoever where it came from
I enjoy it so far. I really like how seamless it is now to catch or battle. I like that you also have to worry and dodge hostile pokemon. I wouldn't mind if they even stuck to this style and even the time line. Imagine the next game you are introduced to the first ever gyms. The research aspect seems like it could be a little tedious but I do like that in this one they actually focus more on catching them all. I long for the day though when Pokemon has voice casting so I don't have to read all this stuff through out the game but that's a long shot lol
I never understood the "Yeah the game is ugly as shit, but its made for the Switch, so its ok." argument. Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 were made for the Switch, and they both look visually great.
Don't forget Metroid Dread. That game was probably the most realistic Nintendo game I've seen so far. But this game looks OK, just kind of crusty. The gameplay and story make up for it though.
I know Nintendo put in a lot of money into both of them, but why are they seemingly the only AAA Switch games that are pleasant to look at, and run at a good frame rate?
Metroid Dread looked awesome too. It surprises me that the Metroid team, with less money, still made a game that looks way better than any modern Pokemon game.
The game hasn't reached its potential but it's still a lot of fun. I hope they come out with updates yo improve it like Nintendo did with Animal Crossing.
It will never reach its potential because the people at Game freak have stagnated tremendously over the years. We need new people with fresh ideas not the same people working on the same game over 25 years.

@@KhanMann66 i disagree, the games where they put the most effort in and did something different (BW) was hated by the fandom, after this they started half-assing games, and continued to use the same formula for the pokemon games because it's the easiest and it works, and now even though they're trying something new they still made BDSP as a back-up if the games they tried something new in failed the reason pokemon is so formulaic is not because the people working isn't creative, it's just that they're afraid to do something new because of what happened in BW, or atleast thats why I think
In terms of graphics, yeah. In terms of story and battling, no. If you're into competitive Pokemon, you'll like scarlet and violet more. If you just like completing your Pokedex and catching unique Pokemon more with decent graphics without a real game, you'll like Arceus more

It's all about stats and type match up. And even that gets diluted by the"styles" mechanic. Now it did have better battle animations so if that's your thing go for it. But I like competitive battles

I wouldn't be surprised if the whole game was just to be used as a testing ground for future games. Game Freak has used spin offs to test new mechanics and design features in the past, and we are about a year or two away from a new generation so I can see a game in the near future that is a blend of the open world engagement of legends with gameplay and designs more in line with normal mainline games.

Although English speakers tend to pronounce Arceus as "Ar-kee-is" for some reason (no clue why, I always pronounced it like Charlie does as a kid), the Japanese version of his name, in Romanized form, would literally be "Aruseusu", indicating that "Ar-see-us" is the proper way to say it
It's mostly because of the English dub insisting on the "Arc-eus" pronunciation. It's the same reason why some people say "Ray-kway-za" while others read it phonetically ("Ray-qua-za", I've always read it like this tbh lol). In Arceus' case I think it got changed because "Ars-eus" would sound offensive in the UK
They changed it because in the British Isles, where English originated, it sounds like a slur. Specifically, arse which is literally just a$$ with a certain accent...
Straight up every East Asian language pronounces it as Arseus, Korean, Chinese etc. English always tries to change things and make it different for some reason.
This is the first time gamefreak have attempted this kind of game, The whole scope is completely different from any of the other games they have done, So of course it isnt going to be a masterpiece. And this game feels like a proof of concept more than anything, they made it just good enough that people can put alot of time and have fun, and that way they can see where they need to improve

It is definitely worth playing. Gold was my favorite title, and this game is close to taking that spot. Legends arceus is the game the OG pokemon trainers have been wanting 👌

@@overlord3850 (spoiler for the game) When you complete the full game and “catch” Arceus it turns out that what you catch is just a projected portion of Arceus that he is allowing you to use as he deems the player worthy of doing so and making the right choices with said power. I’ve heard it go around saying the reason why the game is called legends Arceus, is because you as the player that knows about Pokémon games, will use your knowledge to influence and guide the future of Pokémon into what you know and is today. This game (theory) is basically saying imagine you as a real life him an player were transported into the gym to play Pokémon, before it was the Pokémon you currently know and love. It’s a pretty meta theory
I'm having a ton of fun with this game! I really hope they keep working with and adding to this style of Pokemon game. Here's hoping Legends will continue with more titles featuring other regions in the future!
I’ve been having a lot of fun. They brought a similar mechanic from person too where if you start the fight by hitting the Pokémon in the back of the head with the poke ball you get the first attack for free and sometimes stunn
anyone who blames the switch processing power being the reason for terrible landscape graphics needs to take a look at monster hunter rise for the switch
The monsters in Rise look incredible, but the environments are not nearly as impressive imo. I don’t think the cartoony character models in a Pokémon game need that same level of detail. Like Charlie said, the series needs better art direction than graphics. As is, Legends looks like a bargain-brand version of BotW.
The firework effect after catching a pokemon is so nice. Plus it's funny when I catch myself trying to dodge roll in any Scarlet and can't, I'm like oh right can't do that lol.
I was so skeptical of this game and criticized the visuals (which I still think they're at times lacking) but god damn if this isn't the hands down best game Game Freak has made in YEEEEEEARS.
im already past the end game and doing the final stuff after the end game and it really is such an amazing different take it does need lots of work if they do something like this again in the future but for their first type of game like this I personally enjoyed it alot its been a lot more challenging then the past games and isnt only focused on nonstop trainer battles
alphas can be caught without battling, the chance is just really low i spent like 6 minutes hiding and throwing heavy balls at the lv50 alpha onix before i actually caught it
actually the way you catch alphas is dependant on your star level, it is impossible to catch certain level alphas without being the required star level.

Combat has big changes honestly. The FF10 style of turn taking with double turns etc, the changes to status effects, the ability to just literally book it before an enemies attack lands. It could be waaaay different, but again it's an interesting baby step that changes how you approach a battle. You can actually buff with speed then immediately attack, which in itself adds a huge different to how you would handle turns compared to previous games.
I think the next pokemon game should have pokemon NFTs and you gotta collect them all. But all the pokemon you can collect are slight variations of Mankey. Now that's thinking
As much as it’s just a field in many areas, it does make it not feel empty entirely. It’s a huge many steps in the right direction. It feels pretty good too. It does need that graphical polish, and a bit more to do and explore but with the t8me tables they are forcing on themselves, I don’t know if we’ll get the large scope and dense lived in areas that would be ideal. Might help if they took black and white or something and used it as a remake template to help them expand and fill? Idk
Yeah this game feels darker with tones of death added to the storyline. In the old games that take place in more modern times it is implied that horrible dangers await you if you leave your town without a Pokémon from the professor which is the same fear found here. But for most of the remote places in the modern Pokémon world there was at least one trainer a couple miles away that can come to your help. The most dangerous situation a normal person can find themselves in that I can remember is when Professor Birch was about to get mauled to death by a wild Pokémon, but a trainer came with their Pokémon to fight back, and that trainer happened to be you with your new starter. It ain’t as dangerous as back then, when helpful people were few and far between.
To be fair, in the modern ones it's modern. Getting a concussion is "dangerous". This one is back in the times were Pokemon would literally steal children and eat people. Lol
Well, one, it's shining gold. You can't tell what material its axes are and you probably won't see his full design until after the fight. Two, Scyther has metallic looking blades, yet isn't a steel type. Three, some pokemon have misleading color to type designs (like who at first glance would guess Metagross is part psychic or that Lucario is part steel? I continually forget Luxray ISN'T dark type).
I haven't purchased or played a Pokemon game in years, and it was really disappointing for me considering I do love the franchise. I haven't enjoyed a Pokemon game since B+W, but this game was so refreshing! It's really addicting too surprisingly, like everytime you see a new Pokemon, you want to catch it. There's also never a moment where you run out of the supplies and need to stop because you can collect materials and craft more pokeballs. Changes like these streamline the whole process. Pokemon went from feeling super sluggish to being very fast paced and fun. I am hoping they add some free updates like how Animal Crossing got some content updates. I don't even care about the graphics, I'd just like more stuff to do, like interacting with our Pokemon. If we could have a follower Pokemon, or feed our Pokemon berries and treats, that'd be so much fun. If there was a bonding or friendship system, it'd be even better!!!

Man, I'd love if we had pokemon buddies following us out in the wild. Extra fun if you could toggle your buddy's behavior/teach them whether to be aggressive to pokemon who hunt you down (and thus go into battle mode asap) or to run away with you (kinda like how your companions' AI worked in mystery dungeon)

I really like how its as if they’ve combined every version of catching Pokémon in different games in the most prime version of catching Pokémon. I really do agree with Charlie at the Beginning when he said this game feels like a Prototype, looking at the Trailers for Scarlet and Violet, It does seem like they're going in this Direction. The way Pokemon exist in the overworld on a Realistic scale. Sword and Shield was the kinda Beta Consent, Arceus is an Alpha concept. And from, again, the Trailers of Sca/Vio The world looks Just that much Prettier than both Sw/Sh and Arceus. Even though It may take me a while to Get used to the new style It's very Pretty.
You can 100% catch a wild alpha just by throwing a pokeball. The snorlax he saw in the video was level 45, so he wasn’t high enough level to have access to the better balls to use for catching. I caught an infernape without battling

It's pretty crazy how bad the graphics came out. That will need the biggest bump. Breath of the Wild did it beautifully. Sure there's some barren expanses, but there's the shadows of passing clouds, the wind effects, and the day night cycle that make it feel great. There should be more interesting Pokémon behaviors too, seeing them doing different things throughout the day.

Hope gamefreak keeps this concept going. With a bigger budget for the next one it could both feel and look amazing. Pokemon collecting is way more fun than it's ever been. Levelling is a more pleasant experience. The music is baller when it actually plays. And I would love seeing more pokemon cities get the jubilife village treatment, it's just nice having the immersion of 3D in a main town.

Nah, it's just...Jubilife theme is the single most sleep inducing theme. It's the ultimate lullaby, and you're kinda forced to listen to it when you return to town.
Charlie has a point. As lifeless as the game feels at times, it is very addicting and exciting to engage Pokemon. There is no shortage of encounters and you pretty much speedball Pokemon encounters and captures in quick succession while you're out in the wilderness. It's very fun.
Another point he makes. The OST is amazing, but 90% of the time none of it is playing. It's like Minecraft. People say it feels lifeless because of the lack of music.
Your take on the music is 100 for me. When the night theme picks up, it’s amazing.
The problem is the music cuts out when anything looks at you. If they just allowed people to turn off the spotted music it would be so much better.

BDSP was one of my first pokemon games I fully went through and I loved it so much. The problem is, you long time pokemon fans shit on all "modern" pokemon games cause it's the same thing, understandable, but not everyone is a pokemon baby and played and seen all their games.

I love how the longer the game goes on the less they feel like explaining the balms you throw at the frenzied pokemon. Like, whej fighting palkia/dialga you just get "space balm" out of nowhere with no explanation whatsoever where it came from
vs Dialga its time balm but yeah it much better than final pre-E4 rival battle where he is shocked you know about type advantage for the 400th time
I enjoy it so far. I really like how seamless it is now to catch or battle. I like that you also have to worry and dodge hostile pokemon. I wouldn't mind if they even stuck to this style and even the time line. Imagine the next game you are introduced to the first ever gyms. The research aspect seems like it could be a little tedious but I do like that in this one they actually focus more on catching them all. I long for the day though when Pokemon has voice casting so I don't have to read all this stuff through out the game but that's a long shot lol

Metroid Dread looked awesome too. It surprises me that the Metroid team, with less money, still made a game that looks way better than any modern Pokemon game.

That's my point. Legends arcesus battles weren't competitive. There's no held items or abilities. It's all about stats and type match up. And even that gets diluted by the"styles" mechanic. Now it did have better battle animations so if that's your thing go for it. But I like competitive battles

I loved the Mystery Dungeon games.
I wouldn't be surprised if the whole game was just to be used as a testing ground for future games. Game Freak has used spin offs to test new mechanics and design features in the past, and we are about a year or two away from a new generation so I can see a game in the near future that is a blend of the open world engagement of legends with gameplay and designs more in line with normal mainline games.
Hopefully Pokémon learns from this game and implements this style in the main games

Although English speakers tend to pronounce Arceus as "Ar-kee-is" for some reason (no clue why, I always pronounced it like Charlie does as a kid), the Japanese version of his name, in Romanized form, would literally be "Aruseusu", indicating that "Ar-see-us" is the proper way to say it
It's mostly because of the English dub insisting on the "Arc-eus" pronunciation. It's the same reason why some people say "Ray-kway-za" while others read it phonetically ("Ray-qua-za", I've always read it like this tbh lol). In Arceus' case I think it got changed because "Ars-eus" would sound offensive in the UK

It's kind of amazing that so many people forget you can see the catchability of a pokemon by focusing on it.
This is the first time gamefreak have attempted this kind of game, The whole scope is completely different from any of the other games they have done, So of course it isnt going to be a masterpiece.

@@russellmania5349 it is such a really fun game, a few kinks, and unpleasant textures, but it is the best game from gamefreak to date, story, gameplay and battles have been refined so well. It is definitely worth playing. Gold was my favorite title, and this game is close to taking that spot.

When you complete the full game and “catch” Arceus it turns out that what you catch is just a projected portion of Arceus that he is allowing you to use as he deems the player worthy of doing so and making the right choices with said power. I’ve heard it go around saying the reason why the game is called legends Arceus, is because you as the player that knows about Pokémon games, will use your knowledge to influence and guide the future of Pokémon into what you know and is today. This game (theory) is basically saying imagine you as a real life him an player were transported into the gym to play Pokémon, before it was the Pokémon you currently know and love. It’s a pretty meta theory

I’ve been having a lot of fun. They brought a similar mechanic from person too where if you start the fight by hitting the Pokémon in the back of the head with the poke ball you get the first attack for free and sometimes stunn

The monsters in Rise look incredible, but the environments are not nearly as impressive imo. I don’t think the cartoony character models in a Pokémon game need that same level of detail.

actually the way you catch alphas is dependant on your star level, it is impossible to catch certain level alphas without being the required star level.

You can catch an Alpha with a regular pokeball even, gotta give it the right foods.
Combat has big changes honestly. The FF10 style of turn taking with double turns etc, the changes to status effects, the ability to just literally book it before an enemies attack lands. It could be waaaay different, but again it's an interesting baby step that changes how you approach a battle. You can actually buff with speed then immediately attack, which in itself adds a huge different to how you would handle turns compared to previous games.

As much as it’s just a field in many areas, it does make it not feel empty entirely. It’s a huge many steps in the right direction. It feels pretty good too. It does need that graphical polish, and a bit more to do and explore but with the t8me tables they are forcing on themselves, I don’t know if we’ll get the large scope and dense lived in areas that would be ideal.

Yeah this game feels darker with tones of death added to the storyline. In the old games that take place in more modern times it is implied that horrible dangers await you if you leave your town without a Pokémon from the professor which is the same fear found here. But for most of the remote places in the modern Pokémon world there was at least one trainer a couple miles away that can come to your help.
The most dangerous situation a normal person can find themselves in that I can remember is when Professor Birch was about to get mauled to death by a wild Pokémon, but a trainer came with their Pokémon to fight back, and that trainer happened to be you with your new starter. It ain’t as dangerous as back then, when helpful people were few and far between.
To be fair, in the modern ones it's modern. Getting a concussion is "dangerous". This one is back in the times were Pokemon would literally steal children and eat people. Lol

Well, one, it's shining gold. You can't tell what material its axes are and you probably won't see his full design until after the fight.
Two, Scyther has metallic looking blades, yet isn't a steel type.
Three, some pokemon have misleading color to type designs (like who at first glance would guess Metagross is part psychic or that Lucario is part steel? I continually forget Luxray ISN'T dark type).
I haven't purchased or played a Pokemon game in years, and it was really disappointing for me considering I do love the franchise. I haven't enjoyed a Pokemon game since B+W, but this game was so refreshing! It's really addicting too surprisingly, like everytime you see a new Pokemon, you want to catch it. There's also never a moment where you run out of the supplies and need to stop because you can collect materials and craft more pokeballs. Changes like these streamline the whole process. Pokemon went from feeling super sluggish to being very fast paced and fun. I am hoping they add some free updates like how Animal Crossing got some content updates. I don't even care about the graphics, I'd just like more stuff to do, like interacting with our Pokemon. If we could have a follower Pokemon, or feed our Pokemon berries and treats, that'd be so much fun. If there was a bonding or friendship system, it'd be even better!!!
I'm happy you seem to have this opinion, but at least you can run short some of the supplies which happened to me but I feel that adds to the experience.

I agree with your comment, another thing to note is that people are expecting the Nintendo switch a console that is 5 years old to have AAA rtx level graphics in a pokemon game
Man, I'd love if we had pokemon buddies following us out in the wild. Extra fun if you could toggle your buddy's behavior/teach them whether to be aggressive to pokemon who hunt you down (and thus go into battle mode asap) or to run away with you (kinda like how your companions' AI worked in mystery dungeon)
@@falseswipe7572 its not that their expecting pc level from the game, their expecting switch level from the, just look at botw, people already know they can do better and trying to say its good enough when they clearly can do better is not good for the quality of games we want in the future, because if we let things like this slide, they will do it again.

I really like how its as if they’ve combined every version of catching Pokémon in different games in the most prime version of catching Pokémon. I don’t wanna hear it until you catch 10 lickitung in a row with two berries in less than two minutes; it’s quite the rush of dopamine when you catch a bunch real fast without batting

I personally prefer it the way it is and in the main games I always try to avoid Trainers, More villages or towns would've been cool

People kept saying that having no music made the game off-putting, honestly I think the thing that made the game the most off-putting was putting giant glowing red eyes on some of the stronger Pokemon like the Snorlax seen here. 14:15
