Charlie saying the gym leaders should be demoted when they lose makes no sense. The gym leaders are there for the sole purpose of being beaten by the small children who capture and force the small sentient animals of the world to fight eachother. It's perfectly logical.
Also in like the actual "canon" of pokemon, gym leaders are much much stronger trainers, but they basically just have an inventory of random pokemon that they use based on the challenger's pokemon strength, so every time you fight a gym leader it's not really their level 12 geodude or whatever, it's just some random geodude that they have on standby

It's not impossible to have good 3D art direction ofc, but sometimes it feels like the entertainment industry - video games included - sees 3D as a baseline necessity rather than a medium to be utilized to its fullest potential. I'm sad we missed out on HD 2D pokemon artwork. The most we got were the static trainer images in XY. It would have been cool to see them try to animate in that style proper, especially since the games and the anime really don't follow the same art style outside of creature design. I'm not the biggest fan of gen 5, but they really nailed the 2D kinetic energy during battles.
Gen 5 being loved more than gen 4 isn't really true. I remember that a lot of people were kinda disappointed when gen 5 came out. What drew me in to this series as a kid actually was the lack of in depth story and exposition. The stripped down graphics helped to let your imagination run wild and make it your own adventure if that makes sense. The newer games took that completely away imo

And even though I, personally, love gen 4 and am not so crazy about gen 5, I do agree with that statement. (It also doesn't help that a lot of zoomers who grew up with gen 5 are now older teens and young adults who are willing to defend it, as it was an era where pokemon was starting to wane in popularity a bit, so they see it as needing to be defended). My personal favorites are gen 2 and 3, I think they strike a good balance between building a world / telling a story and allowing the player to fully imerse themself into the role of the protagonist by virtue of leaving just enough tools for the imagination to work with, even though 3 leans more into the former and 2 into the latter. So I do agree with you on what makes the games enjoyable. I'm just also not going to deny or denounce valid media criticism.

I'm not the biggest fan of gen 5, but they really nailed the 2D kinetic energy during battles.
Gen 5 being loved more than gen 4 isn't really true. I remember that a lot of people were kinda disappointed when gen 5 came out. What drew me in to this series as a kid actually was the lack of in depth story and exposition. The stripped down graphics helped to let your imagination run wild and make it your own adventure if that makes sense. The newer games took that completely away imo
@@2ndpeer I should really have said "gen 5 is retrospectively considered more thoughtfully made and designed than gen 4" but wasn't really thinking about specificity. And even though I, personally, love gen 4 and am not so crazy about gen 5, I do agree with that statement. (It also doesn't help that a lot of zoomers who grew up with gen 5 are now older teens and young adults who are willing to defend it, as it was an era where pokemon was starting to wane in popularity a bit, so they see it as needing to be defended).
My personal favorites are gen 2 and 3, I think they strike a good balance between building a world / telling a story and allowing the player to fully imerse themself into the role of the protagonist by virtue of leaving just enough tools for the imagination to work with, even though 3 leans more into the former and 2 into the latter. So I do agree with you on what makes the games enjoyable. I'm just also not going to deny or denounce valid media criticism.

Black and white while having some cool stuff to do had some absolute weird looking Pokémon imo. Probably a after effect of having such a big roster.

Can't name a Pokemon punching, yet there is a multitude of punch moves, and Chimchar's hidden ability literally boosts those moves. It's called Iron Fist, not sure if this game has it but they will probably release the HA starters at some point in an event.

@@maverickREAL I guess it could, but the latter half of the word is a very niche slang only used in certain countries to describe either cocaine or a stabbing. So unless they really went out of their way to look into all sorts of slang than idk.

I say old fashioned because practically no one says that anymore, kids especially (who Nintendo is obviously pandering to) won't have a clue what that is, so there's literally no point in censoring a name just for containing "ching" on it. Even funnier is, one of the pokémon is called Chingling, but punching is too much apparently.

My favorite pokemon games were never the core games. I've been playing pokemon since I could pick up the first game boy. my favorites were was ranger, dungeon, and my all time favorite pokemon conquest. they stopped making spin off games and honestly those were the ones that I felt had the most love put into them. its a shame really
