Incredible Moving Truss PLUS: How to be a Tour Manager

  • Опубліковано 30 чер 2017
  • After a week in Germany, I headed straight to Toronto, Canada to resume the Anjunabeats North American Tour as their touring lighting programmer/operator. Check out my side of this crazy music industry.
REBEL is an incredible venue on the water with a massive production installation including automated truss rings, massive LED walls, tons of MADRIX universes for LED fixtures, and an apt lighting rig.
Elation Platinum FLX, Elation 360i, Martin Mac Auras, Elation Rayzor 2Rs, and some lekos made up the instrument list.
Thanks to Ilan Bluestone, Andrew Bayer, Jason Ross, Oliver Smith, and my mavic-flying, punter-punting, Lululemon-adorned super-Tour Manager Logan.

Gotta love Data Controlled motors!! If you hook up MA to that there is a track function (I believe that's what it's called) where the motor control server tells MA the height of the truss and it will adjust the lights to stay focused at the spot you left them. Super cool I really hope to work with that some day

There's too much legal red tape to do that. the operator they have isn't even their employee. Another company comes in to operate it and on top of that there's lots of beurocrasy inside the club. so the rings don't work the best they can and since they are "not broken" no one fixes them.

Strange question but do you know if countries have different regulations about how dark a club can be? I lived in the UK for years and the clubs were always a lot darker. Over here (Canada) I find I can always see from one of the club to the other. Someone mentioned that lighter clubs reduces drug dealing. Just wondering if there are any government regs... Thx.

This venu used to be called The Docks. I DJd there back in the late 90's early 2000's. The massive patio was the main focus back then. It's insane to see what they've done on the inside! WOW!!!

Christian, what an accent to your tour. I'm buddies with one of the residents at Omnia in Vegas which you prob know has 7 or 8 concentric rings and a 3 level chandelier made up of a couple hundred led fixtures. IDK which one, but when it open in 2015 it was all Robe lighting and has expanded into lasers and other new tech that opened up possibilities for them. Back to your tour. Rebel looks huge and makes me wonder what is the occupancy limit and what the differences are overall with all things tech being in a different country. I fully got immersed and you bald headed buddy looks like it made things spontaneous at times.

Hey Christian love your stuff man, thanks to you I got motivated to beef up portfolio to get a job as an assistant in Sydney op house theatre wing. Thanks for all the MA Tutorials as well helps a million please do another stream soon when you get the chance, on note of the automated rings we have a similar system with sound dampening rings with a few vipers rigged to them and they use DMX inputs but it's a custom make. Let me know if you find out or if you come to Australia sometime! Cheers Bro

Reminds me of the truss ring in Pink Floyd's P.U.L.S.E concert. The entire ring, lined with about 100 moving heads, tilted from vertical to horizontal during their performance of "Comfortably Numb", followed by a 15 foot wide disco ball that folded outward like an orange peel.

Superb video, again. 🤗 One thing you mentioned about blinders... you miss them, but i never really understood blinders conceptionally (except creating an "extra black" to intense the following effect). When i'm in the crowd and the blinders go up i really don't like that 😂.

Push that envelope. ;) -1 point for no dronie shots on that skyline tho. We need to figure out how to do a coordinated drone show w/ some lightweight wireless dmx attached. hehe. Stay cool bro!
