  • Windows 95 was the big revolutionary operating system that set in place a lot of the common UI elements we see in modern operating systems today a little like FenOS will completely revolutionize the computer operating system world later this year.
    Diana, now a windows 8 user got to step back in time and experience the past once again. Windows 95 revolutionized the future of operating systems so we decided to revolutionize our videos with a new recording standard we will continue to use in all future videos. Say goodbye to shaky cams and say hello to green screens ;)
    More info on Windows 95 here: en.wikipedia.or...
    Don't forget to visit the OSFirstTimer forums here: osfirsttimer.fr...
    Tasks Given:
    - What time is it?
    - Set the Correct Time
    - Calculate 95 x 98
    - Change the desktop background
    - Further Customize Windows 95
    - Find a Windows 95 Tutorial
    - Paint a picture in paint
    - Explore the computer yourself
    - Turn off the computer
    The mother in this video uses Windows 8.0 (2012) as her main os however she has installed the classic shell due to her Metro Hate. Would you like to see her try out Linux, Mac, Windows or other operating systems through history such as FenOS (2014)? Then give your suggestions in the comments section. Give this video lots of likes, views, favorites and comments if you want my mum to try out other operating systems. I am open to any operating system suggestions you give especially if these videos go semi-viral (over 100,000 views). This channel is dedicated to me "introducing" people (mum, dad, me) to different operating systems they have never used before and leaving them to suffer in confusion struggling to do anything in an unknown computer environment... or see if these other operating systems are better than Microsoft Windows.

    Lol, look at all these upgrades you are suggesting. Before long we probably are going to be begged to get mics, then get 2 more cameras so I can be on the desktop with my mum and have a camera mounted behind us so you can see the screen occasionally. Before you know it we will probably have us both testing out the operating system on two different computers at the same time and have the cameras flick between us to see what interesting things each of us are doing with the operating system...
    If things keep progressing like this OSFirstTimer could probably turn into "People react to operating systems". Could you imagine... "Kids react to DOS", "Old people react to Windows 8"... Lol, could OSFirstTimer ever go too far? Tell me what you think...

      ***** I don't think it's currently necessary to buy another 2 1080p cameras and mics. Next thing you know we will be wearing and selling OSFirstTimer themed t-shirts... Upgrades need to be done incrementally and overtime just like the evolution of most operating systems.

    • @Christiaan-
      @Christiaan- 10 років тому +3

      I would go away when all the traditional OSFirstTimer things change, like "Mum Tries Out" is fine, but "Kids react" is just NOT what I want to see. If I wanted to see that I would search for it. But I like how YOU guys react and tell us things about the operating system (like a mini review, which you do right now). This is just my opinion and advice to you.

    • @Christiaan-
      @Christiaan- 10 років тому +6

      OSFirstTimer is for me just Philip and Diana, and not the whole world. It so sad that UA-cam channels (in general) always take away the personality of the channel when they grow.

  • @OsFirstTimer
    @OsFirstTimer  10 років тому +67

    It appears we are getting very mixed opinions in regards to our new recording format. So we are thinking of using a second camera (1080p webcam or later down the track a secondary camera) to record on a tripod from behind. The views can then switch between Diana on the desktop and Diana looking at the computer from her chair.
    To help with the small text issues we can have the screen recorder zoom in on certain screen elements that we are talking about in the video so you get the professional version of the old amateur zoom in on the screen in early OSFirstTimer videos without the shaky effect
    Our next video was was recorded back to back with this episode and should be up tomorrow. However since it has already been filmed it uses the exact same format as this Windows 95 episode. It already takes hours to edit OSFirstTimer videos and with my full time daycare center job it would be practically impossible to spend even more time editing the videos.
    If we ever got as many views and subs as smosh then this could be our full time job and the videos would be even better.

    In Microsoft Windows, the Briefcase is a special folder that supports a simple two-way file synchronization between itself and another folder. The Briefcase is designed for mobile PC users so that they may transfer it to a removable drive and have it synchronize with the computer to which the removable drive is attached. It follows the same metaphor as the file and file folder and then, while the file management tasks are performed by Windows Explorer, the briefcase behaves just like another folder, i.e. with support for copy-paste and drag-and-drop. It has additional functions and toolbar buttons for updating out-of-sync files. The Windows Briefcase was introduced in Windows 95[1] and deprecated (although not entirely removed) in Windows 8.

    Win95 was a truly great OS. In my school we used Apple computers, but we had a Windows computer at home. I figured out how to do everything when I was about 7-8 years old on Win95. I "customized the hell out of it", added passwords, installed games, etc. I didn't use the Internet in those days, because there was no phone line in my bedroom, but I used Microsoft Office and Microsoft Works to produce text documents, greeting cards, and all sorts of things.
    My sister used Windows 98 for quite a while, and eventually turned down the Apple macintosh path. My mom got a new computer in 2000 with Windows ME. Horrible "upgrade" of Win98 really. It was very buggy and crashed a lot. I continued to use Win95 until 2007 when I got a new computer with Vista on it. It was pretty looking, but quite buggy. Now I'm using Windows 7, and I have been since 2010. I plan on building a new PC this year, and I'll probably make the switch to Windows 10.
    I wish I'd been born 10 or 15 years earlier, so I could have gotten into computer technology a lot earlier when these groundbreaking advancements were being made. I was only 3 years old when Win95 was introduced.

    Love the bloopers in each episode! A suggestion: Use another camera on a tripod to film like before, next to your mum, and switch between that and the keyed footage from time to time. The amateurish look is kinda the charm of this show and I don't think you should remove it completely. ;)

    I remember when Windows 95 came out - I was a senior in high school (Class of '96). My computer teacher was taking about the new features that she liked in Windows 95 - the ability to save files with a name of more than 8 characters. Windows 95 changed the way we used PCs. It's the first version that you didn't have to boot to DOS. At school we using DOS and WordPerfect 5.1. 1995 is the last time I used a typewriter. We had IBM computers in the library using Netscape Navigator. The school also had it's first webpage. Yes, we launch our first website in 1996.

    I like the new format of the videos. I had to chuckle a bit when you two described the phone dialer as a Skype-type program. You do realize that Windows 95 was released back in the day that land-line phone modems were still popular, right? So unless you have a modem (back then, it was probably at best a 56 kbps connection, a far cry from today's broadband options), I don't think you would be able to use the program today. And Skype-style video chats definitely were not possible.

    It's 2021 and FenOS is still not out. I can see why. We haven't fully reverse engineered Windows (remember, it is a propietary operating system), so some complex programs will not run on WINE. This is even more so for macOS. It doesn't even have a compatibility layer that is fit for everyday use.

      JustACommenter232 Thank you for your comment. We are just trying new things as we wanted to be more professional for you guys. We are reading peoples comments and taking it all on board. If too many people do not like this then obviously we need to go with what the majority want. At the moment just trying a few different things based upon peoples suggestions etc Hopefully one day we find a way that will satisfy everyone!!!! Now won't that be a big challenge for us!!!

    That new format of your show is interesting even though I've seen this at Spatry's cup of Linux. And I liked that shaky camera :)
    Btw, why won't you be together "on the screen" during the OS testing?

      OSFirstTimer I saw bloopers, but in my opinion, that would be cool if you're together on the screen exactly during the testing os.
