Windows 8 was the first OS I recorded her trying. Infact this channels inspiration started off with "Diana hates windows 8 and will never upgrade from windows xp. Can we find an alternative for Diana so she can update from xp without moving to windows 8?" This lead us to ubuntu which she liked more than windows 8 but since she said "windows 8 seems like its the first version of windows and every version has been an improvement on it" I got her to try windows 1.01... Then we kept doing more OS's.
If you are talking about the screen if is a "Flatron W2268L" 22 inch. I wanted bigger but they guy at the shop was saying "why do you need 26 inch" and "the image will be too stretched". I couldn't come up with any good reasons for having a bigger screen so I had to settle for a 22 inch :(
I showed her stuff at the end of the videos because she had already completed the tasks and liked the operating system. Since she currently uses xp windows 7 would be a good upgrade choice since she could stick with windows and be much more up to date in what operating system she uses.
What I am referring to is windows longhorn before the development reset in 2004. Check out the "development of windows vista" page on wikipedia. Longhorn started as incremental updates to windows xp and eventually became its own OS "longhorn". This OS became unstable by 2004 so they decided to scrap it and restart making the successor to xp. The new "from scratch" version of longhorn was still called longhorn for a few more builds until they renamed it vista closer to release.
I try to avoid telling my mum about the operating system lots but since she finished the tasks in 2 minutes I thought "why not tell her about windows 7" (the operating system she wants to upgrade to). The only reason I did it for this operating system is because I used windows 7 myself and it's my favorite operating system. Since I know so much about it that made it easy to share info and win7 features with my mum. I don't know about linux so I would never be able to do the same with linux.
Still using that OS. Windows 7 works just fine, but no more updates for later computer builds. I tried upgrading to Windows 10 on the Windows 7 machine, but that upgrade had instability issues as well as early problems with drivers. I have a new computer running Windows 10, but that is a straight Windows 10 install no upgrade. No crash problems/no conflicts. Windows 7 probably wouldn't have the drivers for that computer, anyway.

That's nice! teaching your mother about computers =)
Ever since windows 98, all windows have a quick launch bar that work like a "dock" and All can be resized to whatever size you want to, you just need to unlock the taskbar to resize it and change its contents...
Check out mum tries out windows longhorn build 4074. It's a 2004 build of longhorn just before the development Reset.
Oh dear Windows 7 lost support
You got a loyal watcher from Hong Kong! I enjoy watching your videos so much...it has so many usability perspectives that can talk about through your mom's experiments on different OSes... I'm just wondering --- would you worry that your mom would be trained up so much that she will be more familiar how to do things even on completely new OSes?
Also I notice that you use the word "emulation" a lot when you're actually referring to "virtualisation". They are pretty different concepts!
Gotta say it again. I really enjoy your videos.
