- 2017 RAM 2500 6.7 Cummins, changing the oil filter over the tire and from the side method.
It can be a bit of a hassle.
New oil filter wrench! I like it. You must use the fluted filters for this wrench.
Geno's oil filter cap makes removing and installing the filled filter a breeze.

It is much easier to put the new filter back on if you happen to have another person available to assist. If so, open the hood and pull up a step stool. You lift and support the filter through the wheel well. They can lean over and guide the filter onto the threads for you from above. Then you can thread it on pretty easily. Saved me a ton of headaches compared to doing it alone.
Hope this helps you!
Thanks for the idea!
That's a great oil filter wrench! When I change the oil on my 18 Ram, I just remove the inner fender liner. A few bolts and it pops right out and the filter comes right out with out any spillage.
Thanks! I'm going to try that one. I just thought the fender liner wouldn't be worth messing with, but sounds like it will.
Stay safe out there!!
@@pmtips4482 it makes it a lot easier. I use to take the air intake tube off and lay over the fender. After doing that once, I decided to not do that. It should be 8 10mm bolts that hold it on. There are two bolts up top over the wheel about midway across the fender liner in case you miss those.
After watching a video of the top method, I decided to just go at it over the tire, but I will definitely remove the liner. I have an oil change coming up in October.
Thanks!
@@pmtips4482 no problem!
I like the filter wrench! That is a bit of a pain to work that oil filter. lol Have a good week Pm!
Of all the oil filters I've changed in my life, this one is the least pleasant. That's a bummer as I look forward to changing oil!!
Have a good one John!
The most difficult part is to thread the filter on.
Yes it is, it's hard for me to get it oriented just right. Those threads have to be in perfect alignment.
Thanks for watching!
Yes i just changed oil at 6948 miles on 2022 didge ram 3500. I attempted for an hour getting pissed called my skinny handedwife out she got it first try did i feel bad after warranty will relocate filter
So far I’m an hr deep just trying to get it to thread on 😂 I hate that it’s in this location
Yea, that whole job is a bitch even with good tools. Long gorilla arms help alot.
Thanks so much for this video! Ordering the tool now and doing my first change this week. Cheers!
Glad it was helpful!
Throw a towel down on the cross member. It cradling the filter in case oil spills on removal and install. Cheers. Good video
Good tip!
Thanks!
I just got my first diesel truck and this will help me to do some maintenance. I recommend you to buy a tripod then you will be able to use both hands. Cheers
I filmed some of that closeup while using one hand, but when I got further along I used both.
I just wanted to show the gist of it.
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Make sure to clean around the filter mounting area if you use this method. If your are blindly trying to find that nipple you will possibly knock off dirt into your filter.
Yes sir! I look up there with a bright flashlight and mirror to check that out.
Thanks!
Cool wrench.
Right on. I’m new to owning a Ram 6.7 and was curious about what was involved in an oil change.
Both of those tools were bought online?
Thanks!
They were. The cap is from Geno's and the wrench is from Amazon. I have a link in the description.
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video. This helps.
You're welcome!
I have to remove the front wheel/tire in order to manipulate the filter.
Thanks for watching!
Man I HATE trying to find the threads when putting the new filter on!
I know what you mean!
I'm tempted to put the filter on empty, but I always fill it with oil about 3/4 full, and that added weight makes it a real bear to thread on.
Thank you for watching!
Which oil filter wrench is that? Your’s seems much better than the one I used.
Please check the link in the video description.
I just clicked on it and it is a good hot link.
Thanks for watching!
I would just take out the motor to put it on the way You don't accidentally cross threaded it
Lol thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video. It’s a help. I would like to purchase the wrench & the oil filter plug. Are you able to help me with this?

Is this the same oil filter for a 2020?
Yes, OIL FILTER - FLEETGUARD - STRATAPORE ('89-'22, 6.7L & 5.9L) - LF16035
@@pmtips4482 thank you for the reply and happy new year!!
You too!
Have a safe 2022!!
Thanks for the video, what a pain in the azzz!!! I’m not looking forward to doing this
Before you remove the oil filter, try to get a good indicator on exactly how it's lined up with background guide points, like oil lines, block identifiers, etc. Pay attention to the angle the filter is.
Above all, have patience!

How is the flip side 4 holding up?
It is awesome! The other day at Lowe's, I had to show ID for an accounts receivable. No fumbling through cards as the F4 has a dedicated driver's license slot, I just flip to it and never have to touch any cards
Thanks for watching!!.
@@pmtips4482 awesome have you had it open in your pocket that about my only concern
@@zachmosteller4681 Zach, sorry for the late reply, it never showed up as new incoming and I'm playing catch up.
I just checked the Flipside 4 to get a good look at the latch engagement. I was able to lay a small tape measure right on the top of the opened latch and there is a solid 1/8 inch engagement, or .125 thousands of an inch.
No, it has never come open in my pocket, and I don't think it ever will.
Thanks!
@@pmtips4482 thanks

I thought that year called for
5w-40?
In the owner's manual, it shows 5w-40 if it stays below 32 degrees F.
