The muttonchop comment section has to be one of the most civilized and honorable on the whole of UA-cam. It's really nice being able to read so many other pipe smokers words and contemplate their thoughts. No one else in my entire town, that I know of, smokes a tobacco pipe except myself and my dad. It kinda feels like you are a part of a special pipe club when you really delve deep into the comments here.
Oliver McKinley yup. I wish I knew more pipe smokers IRL. I’m not the type to join a club. Seems a bit desperate. I’d rather bump into someone at the BNM.
Oliver McKinley absolutely! I’m the only one in family that smokes a pipe also. I have one friend who smokes a cigar. That’s the closest I get to a smoking buddy lol
I was trying to explain this to my wife one day when we was out taking a walk when I smelled pipe smoke coming from under a neighbors garage that I didn’t know. I wanted to ring the bell and ask about the pipe and she said don’t you don’t know those people. I told her pipe people are special people and they would understand and want to help.
A cigar smoker for over 25 years I switched to pipe smoking about a year and a half ago and haven’t looked back. Most of what I’ve learned about the craft has been from your channel. I’ve adopted most of your methods into my own process. The “breathing method” is how I smoke as well and has become second second nature to me. It’s truly the best for getting the most out of the experience IMHO. I thank you Sir for literally changing my whole approach to pipe smoking and the enjoyment I get from the pass time.
@@im4485 Simply flavor. Pipe tobacco’s are more complex (in flavor-imho) than cigars and offer much more distinct flavor notes to me. I still smoke cigars regularly, just not as much as pipes.
I mean this in the best way imaginable. You're the Bob Ross of pipe smoking. I love listening to you talk about it and you make it feel like an art. Thanks for the videos. For the first time today I was able to smoke a whole bowl of my favorite blend with only one light. The breath method works!!
Hey bud. I have been a cigar smoker since 2006.Not long after that I bought a pipe. I have dabbled with pipes for more than 10 years now. about three weeks ago I stumbled across your videos. Everything has changed now. previously I couldn't understand why I was getting tongue bite, pipe going out have to relight, etc, etc. I have basically binge watched your videos over the past three weeks. I have been reteaching myself how to properly smoke a pipe. Thanks to you! By no means am I an expert yet. Just a humble beginner once again. But it is your videos that breaks it down step by step by step. I am a big visual learner and by watching the steps you take has made all the difference. I have a local cigar shop here in Georgia that has a little of pipe tobacco. Honestly he flat out told me he didn't know too much about pipes. The other day when I had to go get some supplies, I was actually explaining to the tobacconist some of the techniques I have learned in your videos. He was thankful that I taught him some stuff. I can't begin to tell you how excited I am! I am leaning towards aromatic blends. Actually I have begun to build my rotation with a lot of your recommendations.Three weeks ago I no clue what Virginia or burly or latakia was. I had no clue how to shop for tobacco or how to make heads or tails out of any of it. I am now expecting my first good shipment of pipe tobacco Monday. I got my mason jars ready and am even gonna start cellaring. Not only that, I was able to order some Sleepy Hollow from Strauss, literally right before I started watching this video. Thank you very much for these videos. I can surely tell how much you love it. And Chris Thank You for your service to our country! Thank you. Reese
Jedi Leatherwood - you are a shining example of why I started this channel, when I first started out I was much like you, but no one to turn to, tongue bite, pipe so hot I could cook eggs on it, I was miserable, but I pushed on and eventually got it right. It amazes me to think that a channel like mine wasn't started sooner. Maybe one day if I am traveling through Georgia, I'll look you up and we can have a pipe and a chat. Congrats on all your success. 👍👍👍
This man saved my pipe-smoking! Specifically this video of his saved my pipe-smoking! After trying for over a decade to master tobacco packing density, ignition inhale and smoke-flavor enjoyment, I was still caught in the "new pipe-smoker" routine of, as Muttnchop Piper calls it, "freight-training." I may not have propelled each inhale as a sequential exhale - instead opting to let the smoke 'vent' gently out of my mouth and up past my nose, (where I did enjoy the aroma) - I was still expelling each intake of smoke immediately afterwards...instead of "massaging the smoke" back through the pipe. What Muttnchop Piper says at time-mark 8:21 described me perfectly, even if at a slower cadence. The result was that, no matter how I packed nor what I smoked, every smoking session ended with a horrible case of ashtray-mouth! Disgusting! Enough to make me put away my pipes for months at a time, and forswear ever picking them again. How can anything that ends in such a revolting desecration of the human interior somehow be deemed tolerable?! Enter the video "A Preconception and Misconception" by Muttnchop Piper. Viewed in early 2019, I tried to duplicate its instructions, but half-heartedly and inconsistently. Again, my pipes were packed...away! In the spring of 2020, I decided one last time (in celebration of a new residence with garden-grounds so conducive to pensive pipe-smoking) to try to master this (to me) new technique, and see if there was truly any difference if followed faithfully. Eureka! Hallelujah! It was as if I had never even smoked a pipe before, and was only NOW experiencing what ages of sages had enjoyed! Flavors sweet, spicey, woodsy, heady and campfire-ey caressed my olfactory senses - where taste actually happens...I know, from breathing OUT through the nose with any adult beverage lingering on the tongue. ("Cream Sherry" reveals caramel. "Whiskey" reveals charred-oak and warm spice. "Scotch" reveals...well...scotch!) This slow-pace re-breathing of the smoke out simultaneously through the pipe AND the nose - "massaging the smoke" - sent most of the flavor ingredients up through the human anatomy sensitive to flavor. (Duh!) Then, yes, after a few breathe-rebreathe's, allowing the last puff to escape gently from the mouth as the pipe is drawn away for a moment's rest to maintain proper temperature. Cyclical circulation at its best. Perfect pipe-puffing procedure. Now, I'm actually re-purchasing tobaccos I bought years ago, and trying them all again with this new (yes, I know...to me) technique so that I can give them their due, give them their proper stage to perform. My (totally amateur) thoughts on why this works so well? When you open your mouth to exhale after each inhale, or even just too frequently if not with regimental consistency, you introduce oxygen /into/ your mouth even though the flow is in the /out/ direction. This extra oxygen turns your mouth into a second combustion chamber. Basically, your pipe now has two bowls. As much as carbon-cake build-up is the aftermath of pipe usage, and in some quarters an even desired by-product, no one can say that turning the inside of the mouth...and most-especially, the tongue...into the side-walls of a pipe bowl is an acceptable, even if unintended, consequence of pipe enjoyment. Behold, the oral ashtray! ...like someone crushed-out the last remnants of a bitter, old, wet cigar on your tongue...repeatedly. No amount of liquids or solids, libations or morsels, can take away that throat-mounted wet ashtray; in fact, they usually only make things worse. With the "Breath" method, all things are new! Every tobacco offering is unique, from the confection-added toppings (if present) to the nature-originated base components, to the man-mingled combinations thereof in even the most true-to-the-earth blends. Taste is restored! Tongue is preserved! Now, THIS is why the distinguished gentlemen of by-gone eras pondered life's progression through the clarifying haze of fragrant, swirling pipe smoke. Thank you, Muttnchop Piper! You brought another brother of the briar back into the fold.
Yeah, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the massaging of the smoke. You can't breathe out of your nose and mouth at the same time, it's not anatomically possible. I think he mentions that you breathe out of your nose normally and a bit from your mouth.
@@aloofmusician856 what do you mean it’s not possible to breath out of your nose and mouth at the same time? Of course it is. You do it all day every day.
I love coming across hidden gems like this channel. Genuine advice from genuine people. Very wholesome content, thank you for the sage wisdom. Edit: that being said, your videos are one of a kind!
Thank you for this lecture. I just bought a pipe and was smoking it wrong. I was getting tongue bitten and my tobacco was tasting like pure ash. After watching this tutorial I immediately packed my pipe and started smoking it properly. It's Incredible how your technique made my pipe smoking experience alot more pleasant.👍
Relaxing with a pipe, slowly puffing and indulging while pondering the wonders of life, what a wonderful experience. Thanks Chris for taking time to enlighten those who are just starting out, if only the whole world would slow down and enjoy a pipe together in fellowship there would be less hatred. God bless.
Michelangelo , your right I don't smoke I gave it up 38 years ago but I still like the smell of pipe tobacco and I think it's a relaxing 😎 thing todo . It's an art form .
Enjoyed and bowl of tobacco this morning prior to going to work at 4am, so peaceful, drove to work relaxed and actually happy to watch all the morning rush drivers that did not get up in time and were clearly late...slow down people, enjoy a bowl of tobacco and leave earlier.!
Nice clip so thanks. Mostly pipe smokers are laid back fellas, most of them are lone wolfs with their pipes and thoughts . men with feeling that isolation is is the only way, it is not necessary a bad thing, observant people are the ones who might start easier with pipe smoking than all these CEO's and these small neat neck tied producers of the world , they don't have the guts of the will to start with this relaxing and blessed habit of ours.Have a great Sunday and as always cool smokes mate.
Olle Wahlroos - well said my friend, I feel sorry for those type people, sure they may be powerful, and make a lot of money, but for me, as long as I have enough to live on, and lots of time off to enjoy the world around me and relax, then I am the happiest. 👍👍👍
The key phrase there is "the observant people". Lone wolves are by definition thoughtful, reflective people. Isolation is the best environment for being observant, thoughtful and reflective. It is possible to alone in a crowd, as well, just disengaged.
Just wanted to say thanks for this video. I’m a relatively new piper, and until today I’ve been enjoying my smokes but always feeling like I was missing something. I tried this method tonight and it was a totally new experience, infinitely more relaxing and flavorful, and far easier to maintain a comfortable smolder. I’m currently sitting in my backyard, listening to Andy Serkis narrate Fellowship of the Ring, savoring the best smoke of my pipe journey so far, and looking forward to many more to come. Thanks again!
I am from Brazil, love pipe smoking, and I've grown to be such a big fan of yours, you are a lovely person, and I'm watching all of your videos, thank you very much!
Excellent teaching video! Understanding the meditative process of breathing while gently maintaining the ember. I especially appreciate your comparison of “locomotive” breathing versus what you demonstrated. Thank you for clearing the misconception of this form of relaxation.
A pipe and coffee in the morning sitting in my favourite chair = bliss. Another way I like to smoke is to have my mouth slightly open while I'm drawing in. For me, it has 2 effects; first, it cools the draw. Second, it allows more air to pass over my tastebuds, which works to help you taste more of the different components of the tobacco. I figured this by watching how professional tasters ( that taste coffee, tea, ice cream, etc. ) do their tasting. Tastebuds and olfactory organs really depend on the usage of air to be as effective as possible. I'm no pro, but I find that it helps me.
Paul Czubryt - I did a video on this way of smoking and I get the same results, but once I started using the Breathe method, that's the only way I smoke now. Thanks for the added information my friend. 👍👍👍
I just wanted to say a huge thank you! You made the experience 1000x better with the breathing technique! No more tongue bite or ashy taste. I’m so glad I found this video after a disastrous first bowl second bowl was a lot and I mean a lot better! Cheers
As newbie (3 weeks!) I found your instruction and advice was exactly spot on. I was freight training and knew something wrong as the bowl was too hot, and tobacco lost its flavor midway. Thanks a million.
Perfect demonstration..after 4 months of pipe smoking this is still one of the most valuable lessons. The whole point of slowing down and being in the moment with life..and the pipe. Muttonchop, you were the first YTPC mentors I found and I’m glad I started with your videos! Hope you’re doing well! Greetings from cold London, comforted by a slow 1792 flake...
Just gotta say that I’ve been pipe smoking for almost three years now. I found your channel a little over a year ago and I love your videos. I’ve watched this video a couple of times and I have noticed my technique improve so much over the last 12 months. I enjoy smoking my pipes so much more after learning more about technique and the meaning/culture behind the art of pipe smoking. Thanks muttnchop for your awesome videos. You’re such a down to earth gentleman and I enjoy your content. PS I know this video is old, but keep uploading great videos!
Thank you so much. Im so glad i found your channel. I switched to a pipe from cigarettes and your advice has pretty much instantly made my smoke taste so much better, and my pipe cooler. I greatly appreciate you and your channel.
Been smoking pipe for about 6 months or so now, I learned from your videos and I found myself smoking like a maniac lately. I came back to this video for a refresher on the best way to smoke a pipe. These videos are the best. Thanks for everything you do. Currently smoking some Plumb Pudding. My pipe still goes out occasionally when smoking, but I'm getting the hang of it I think.
I would have given up on pipe smoking if it weren't for you. I've learned SO much from your channel, good sir. Thank you for everything and I'm looking forward to the next blend club video with the Lane 1-Q!! Happy piping my friend!!
Same thing here too. Going to start smoking pipe. Used to smoke hookah in the evening with friends, but now I'm posted to site work, need better civilized way to relax. Thanks a lot for the guidance.
I'm totally new to all of this stuff, only ever smoked a pipe as a kid and we always just smoked it like we were smoking weed. I'm wanting to get into it properly now, and your videos are very lovely and I enjoy them very much. You seem like you're a very passionate person about this, and I really enjoy that about your videos. Thank you for your great content, and please keep making amazing videos!! On a side note, does anyone else just want videos of him and a buddy of his smoking and talking about the universe? Would watch for hours.
Yeah....wow....can’t thank you enough Robert! Been on cigs for years. Loving my pipe, but no one I know smokes pipe. This is so informative. I don’t think I could have done without it!!! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
UA-cam definitely needs a "Man smokes a pipe 10 hours version" video! :D It's so relaxing watching you smoking the pipe! Love your videos. Just found them today and you already got a new subscriber! Keep up the good work!
I love you videos. They are very educating to me as I have only started and been smoking pipes for several months I have started my 7 pipe and tobacco rotation but I have severe PTSD and anxiety from my tours in combat and muti deployments in the Marine corps pipe smoking has so far gotten my anxiety down to where I don't have to take the anxiety down to where I don't need it I just have a bowl. Also using the breath Technic. Along with that it helps me sleep using the night cap by dinhill I don't have to take as much trazadone and restorill. You videos have helped me go from pharmcutical to natural toabbco thank you so much for your lessons and time for stories
David Kelley - I am very pleased that I have been able to help you my friend. It sounds like you have found a way to deal with your demons, and I am happy for it. Semper Fi my friend.
Wow after 2 years of rookie piping, I finally understand and can perform the breath method! And I will say it seems a lot more meditative than how I was smoking my pipe before. THANK YOU M. Chop! Love it!
Excellent summary of the way to smoke a pipe. Though many people smoke whilst doing an activity, the best way is to sit and contemplate. The 20thc English novelist J. B. Priestley smoked all day and every day, warning of smoking a pipe as if it was a blast furnace! I can never understand how some smokers can burn through the bottom of a bowl. Happy smoking.
Thank you very much. I'm an x cigar guy...too expensive.. I burnt out several pipes, some brand new, first smoke...I really enjoy pipes now that I have learnt from you how to smoke. My bowl does not get hot, or burn through. I really taste for the first time. My wife likes my pioe smoking much more than the cigars for sure.
This could easily be your best video when it comes to showing new pipe smokers what to do. Too many smokers act like they are puffing on cigars or cigarettes and getting nothing but hot ash and tongue bite. Great job!
Randy Tuggle - Thanks Randy, I try and convey the information I want to teach others the way I would want someone to teach me, I hope it translates. 👍👍👍
Your absolutely right.. I been doing this just enjoying.. the wet I was kinda curious.. i pike the prince Albert, I tryied a breakfast blend I liked too. There is the regular pipe to tobacco I just gwt because it's cheap but when I hit the flavors that's a real treat. I have to try and remember the flavor you mentioned and I'm interested in trying it now I'm tired of the liquor flavors at store so idk. Later I'll do the other flavors. It's enjoyable to me and yes tops cigarettes even there little vapor pens. Just I don't think they would even understand fully but there loss if they don't understand. Yes I left he smoke just sit in mouth and breathe through my nose slowly puffing . You have it right on and if someone doesn't follow ur advice I feel bad for them there loss. I'm bored so I'm just watching videos to entertain myself.
You have a very relaxing and informative channel. I'm glad I found it BEFORE I start smoking a pipe. Waiting on my pipe, tobacco and accessories to arrive in the mail this week. I'm currently a cigar smoker. And like a lot of newbies, I got caught up in all the "rules" of lighting and smoking and what not. Then I realized, if people enjoy the way they do it, WHO CARES?! The whole point is for relaxation and enjoyment and a little break from the everyday realities. I also got caught up in the gear and accessories craze, wanting the coolest and most expensive stuff because I saw other people with it. A lot of people get caught in this endless loop and forget the real purpose of doing it in the first place. With weather warming up, I can't wait to get home from work (I work overnight shift) and relax in my hammock with a smoke and a cold beverage!
Drew Bags - you are in for a wonderful experience my friend, there is nothing more relaxing then sitting back smoking your pipe with something cold to drink. Do you know I have almost fallen asleep its so relaxing. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me tremendously. My dad gave me a pipe and I've been getting more into it. But could not figure out the ash taste like you were saying. I just smoked a bowl with your breathing method and the taste, experience and everything was perfect. Your videos are great, thank you again!
Excellent demonstration. I recently purchased myself a pipe, Czech tool and a few other misc items including some aromatic blends to try out, can't wait to start enjoying and reliving relaxation. Iam new to your channel Family and absolutely love your videos, I especially like your "Blend club reviews" and are looking forward to participating in them. Thank you for reading! Eric. 🇺🇸✌️
Love your video on this. I'm 25 and I smoke cigarrs, as you've said in one of your videos, religiously. It's very relaxing, taking time out of your day to sit down and consciously enjoy this flavorful break. Others at my age don't understand it, think it's done only for the "cool factor" and when they try it they suck the thing down like cheat cotton candy. I want to get into pipe smoking too. It's very cool to see that experienced folks take their time to explain what it is really about.
Yggdra666 - Thank you my friend, those around you don’t understand now, but give them 30 years, then they will say oooohhhh, now I understand what you were saying, to bad it will take them 30 years to figure that out. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much for this video! I am a new member of your channel and have totally overlooked this proper way of smoking a pipe! I had been smoking totally wrong! It is so much better relaxing and tasing the flavor and lightly blowing it out in a he rhythm you demonstrate! How many people out there have been doing it wrong!
Chris Great Lesson and truly the way to smoke a pipe . When I first learned to smoke a pipe I was taught slow and steady. and if my pipe got to hot then I was smoking to fast . This method makes it truly easy ! Thank you Chris and hope your well my friend. Scott
As I am beginning to think about getting a pipe, I found your channel. Thank you for the sound advice, and I’m now working through your catalog. New sub well earned sir!
Really good video. Great advice and helped me soo much. Helps you keep tasting without extra combustion. The pass through breath is less oxygen rich and lends itself to cool the pipe, just as he says.
I have only been smoking a pipe for about 3 weeks now. I have been a cigarette smoker for decades, and a cigar smoker for decades. I do not see myself giving up smoking a pipe. I may quit the others. But I don't see myself ever quitting smoking a pipe. The variety of tobacco available for a pipe is infinitely more broad than a cigarette. I have not tried Plum Pudding yet. It will be my next purchase. I have tried The Haunting and absolutely love it. Cloud Hopper, love it. Thank you for the videos. As a new pipe smoker, you have helped me out a lot.
Thank you so much for your video. Couldn’t grasp the concept of how to keep the pipe lite, preventing the pipe from scorching my hand and my tongue until now. I will put this method to work ASAP.
One thing I realize Muttnchop Piper / friend. Is for someone like myself, who doesn’t know any pipe smokers, watching your videos while smoking my pipe, in addition to offering great info, also provides the comradely that’s otherwise missing. Keep up the great work !
Your videos on pipe smoking solely bring relaxation to a man... And this comes from a non-smoker... I always wanted to enjoy tobacco instead of just consuming alcohol, beer specifically because I can't handle heavy drinks. I've never even smoked a single cigarette fully... This may be because no one in the family smokes and my lungs aren't that capable... But piping seems like a third way for relaxation... The whole ritual of pipe smoking seems to be calming your senses... Soon I will buy a pipe, try your methods and learn from your experience... Keep up with the elegant content you're making.
My grandfather was a pipe smoker also... I remember the smell of his pipe when I was young man... He definitely enjoyed pipe smoking..... I've quit smoking about 18 yrs. ago but I am flirting with idea of starting up with pipe smoking....
Using the breathe technique is helpful when driving. Driving should require one's full attention, so the pipe becomes secondary, not actively thought about. Just clench it, close your mouth and breathe normally. If the cabin of your car becomes smoke filled, you are doing it wrong. Exhaling slightly through the pipe keeps the ember hot enough to preclude having to relight while driving, or having to wait for the next red light (which is dangerous or annoying). Eventually, it becomes second nature, reflexive. I think that pipe smoking should always be a secondary activity, like while watching TV, reading, driving, listening to music or working with your hands. That way, one doesn't become too focused on what the pipe is doing. If the pipe goes out, it isn't often noticed until well after the fact. (And so, what? There is no penalty for lack of continuity of the smoke.)
Wow I honestly had no idea this is how to smoke a pipe. I just started this week and was doing the "freight train" method and was experiencing all those things you mentioned. I'll give this a try and see how this does.
Just subscribed, I'm gonna start pipe smoking, moving from cigarettes because I'm hoping on cutting back on tobacco a bit, worried about the experience of transferring over and I found your video to be the best way to transition
Oh Muttonchop we love you. Me and my missus are here in England and we've watched loads of your vids. You are awesome. Thanks mate. Im a new piper and nearly an ex cigarette smoker thanks to this lovely hobby. I cant believe how long it took for me to try piping. I absolutely love it too. Nice people smoke pipes. Andy and Georgie. UK
Andy Baker -Thank you and the missus my friend, I love England, visited your beautiful country in 2012, Hope to make it back one day. It pleases me to hear you have come close to kicking the cigarette habit, good job. 👍👍👍
Mate. I'm afraid its all going down the pan. We've just suffered ANOTHER attack in our capitol. We're deeply concerned for some of our citizens. We need a steady hand now. God Bless you.
I just had my very first pipe last night so completely new to this hobby. The very first thing that I have learnt is that the pipe demands that you take your time and to slow down. Talk about a steep learning curve haha. I smoked Gawith Hogarrth spirit of Scotland. It was an enjoyable flavour.
This is actually the best video describing the breath method. The other ones make it sound like the smoke somehow gets blown out of the bowl and inhaled through the nose, to then come back out the mouth.
Muttnchop Piper The ad that shows up below the video when using the mobile you tube app. you have to click on it to play it. I have seen a lot of these anti-smoking videos popup when perusing pipe smoking videos in general.
I stumbled on your videos. It is July 2020, and you not posting as you once did I understand this. But thanks anyway. I am catching up. Thanks again for all your help, Margin from Texas.
Enjoyed your video very much. I wish you would put out more videos, on a more frequent basis. I think I have enjoyed all your videos from the past, I don’t think I have missed any .
Hey Muttnchop, I just recently started pipe smoking a couple days ago. I watched a lot of your videos while waiting for my stuff. It helped a lot, thanks.
Thanks for showing that method. I'm new to the pipe world of enjoying tobacco instead of just smoking it in the form of cigarettes, it is really easy to lose your speed when you are new to this or have any idea what you are doing. For many years tobacco was a 5-minute break in the form of cigarettes and the whole point was to get done and get it out of the way. (The world is,, hurry up and go, go, go,) but now it's time to spend time and relaxing what you are doing. Once again, Thanks for this video. -Dave
Really enjoy your videos MuttnChop piper! I am new to pipe smoking and have been looking for tips and tricks and the like and I have noticed that I keep coming back to your vids! Thank you for your experience and insight to this enjoyable hobby! Wish you and your family well, take care!
i really enjoy your videos, i havnt purchased my first pipe yet, but i am gaining a wealth of knowledge and cant wait to start piping - thank you for taking the time to do your videos
i will most definately do that! a question i cant find an answer to: is it less enjoyable with a cobb pipe? i really wanted to get a longer country gentkeman or the cobbit shire? do you have a video about this that i havnt seen yet? what is your opinion of the cobbs? thank you for your input ~David
I finally figured out the breath method and I have to say I get much more flavor as well as picking out all the hidden flavors ,less bite and my pipe stays cooler. I smoke like that now and don't even know I'm doing. I can relax and do it without thinking about it. It's the best way I've found to smoke a pipe. That's just me tho. Cheers Chris
I just wanted gandalf's pipe, and somehow ended up there. Its so cool to see pipes got their community, that seems to be so chill and generally wholesome
Thank you for the great advice. It really makes a difference to the way I now smoke my pipe, and I get more enjoyment from it.I find your videos really informative.
Thank you so much for this video. I learned a lot just in this one video. I'm a new pipe smoker and could figure out what I was doing wrong until now so thank you!!!!!!
This is the difference between someone who smokes a pipe and a pipe smoker. Someone who smokes a pipe also smokes cigarettes and cigars equally. A pipe smoker is one who only smokes a pipe and occasionally a cigar. Happy pipe smoking!
A pipe smoker doesn't smoke a pipe because they need it like a cigarette smoker needs a cigarette. A pipe smoker enjoys the taste, the flavor of the tobacco like a fine wine.
Hmm, so pipe smokers are cigarette snobs? The occasional cigar is acceptable to qualify one as a pipe smoker but... Then again I reckon that's whatcha get when ya let a Hatfield define the terms...lol just a little feudal humor there folks.
Now, Kenny, I never said that pipe smokers are cigarette snobs. Your just trying to resurrect the feud. LOL But you got the wrong Hatfield. I am a 50/50 half Hatfield and half McCoy. My grandfather was a Hatfield and my grandmother was a McCoy before marriage. I'm writing a book about my life that has all that in it. Happy piping as Muttnchop says.
8:40 yep I do that. Mostly because I have trouble keeping it lit and don't know enough yet. Your right it's hard to think about anything else smoking like that. Hope this works better!
Really e have been enjoying your videos, i'm a new to intermediate piper. your tips are helpful and have made smoking more enjoyable. thanx for the good work!
Ex cigarette smoker. Love the idea of pipes and would love to start but don’t want to go down the addiction path again. Might look at herbal but kinda defeats the purpose 😂

Oliver McKinley absolutely! I’m the only one in family that smokes a pipe also. I have one friend who smokes a cigar. That’s the closest I get to a smoking buddy lol
Yes, quite, old boy.

I have PTSD my pipe and your breath method has helped me to calm down a lot.
Thanks for the lesson.

And Congrats to you for your continued success!
Damn.
My exacting experience with this video he hit the nail on the head as it were.
Yeah, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by the massaging of the smoke. You can't breathe out of your nose and mouth at the same time, it's not anatomically possible. I think he mentions that you breathe out of your nose normally and a bit from your mouth.
Anyone who has a word like 'forswear' in their repertoire has my attention
It's
Incredible how your technique made my pipe smoking experience alot more pleasant.👍
Relaxing with a pipe, slowly puffing and indulging while pondering the wonders of life, what a wonderful experience. Thanks Chris for taking time to enlighten those who are just starting out, if only the whole world would slow down and enjoy a pipe together in fellowship there would be less hatred. God bless.
Black Robe Church: Brother Chris - I attract, that's a very nice sentiment 😃😃😃
Black Robe Church: Brother Chris - I meant I agree lol👍👍👍
I agree God bless you brother.
Just watching someone smoking a pipe is relaxing 😊
FARD - yes it is. 👍👍👍
asmr
wished I could smell it (love the smell)
Michelangelo , your right I don't smoke I gave it up 38 years ago but I still like the smell of pipe tobacco and I think it's a relaxing 😎 thing todo . It's an art form .
@@carlarthur4442 An ever evolving art form, at that.
So True
Great Statement, and true,,
The key phrase there is "the observant people". Lone wolves are by definition thoughtful, reflective people. Isolation is the best environment for being observant, thoughtful and reflective. It is possible to alone in a crowd, as well, just disengaged.
Sunday was made for pipe smoking!, one relaxes, slows down and observes properly the day of our Lord.
Totally agree, we can also add a cold beverage which will enhance the experience, and help to cool the smoke...
Ziad Ismaiel - great additional info my friend, thanks. 👍👍👍
I learn a nuance to pipe smoking with every video you release. Thank you.
Travis Smith - I'm glad of that my friend. 👍👍👍
Travis Smith - thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
Well said and agreed.
I’m a newish pipe smoker and I have savored your videos like i try to savor my favorite blends. For your time and effort I thank you.
VCMagick13 - That’s very kind of you to say my friend, I’m glad your pipe smoking has improved. 👍👍👍
Perhaps the most informative channel for this subject
Thank you so much. Im so glad i found your channel. I switched to a pipe from cigarettes and your advice has pretty much instantly made my smoke taste so much better, and my pipe cooler. I greatly appreciate you and your channel.
That is a top tutorial of smoking a pipe. Thank you.
Been smoking pipe for about 6 months or so now, I learned from your videos and I found myself smoking like a maniac lately. I came back to this video for a refresher on the best way to smoke a pipe. These videos are the best. Thanks for everything you do. Currently smoking some Plumb Pudding. My pipe still goes out occasionally when smoking, but I'm getting the hang of it I think.
j jurss - just be aware that your pipe going out is a part of pipe smoking, I typically relight my pipe 2 to 3 times. 👍👍👍
Very relaxing to just watch.
Darren Banks - thanks Darren. 👍👍👍
I would have given up on pipe smoking if it weren't for you. I've learned SO much from your channel, good sir. Thank you for everything and I'm looking forward to the next blend club video with the Lane 1-Q!! Happy piping my friend!!
olegreg - I'm glad you're doing so well my friend.👍👍👍
Same thing here too. Going to start smoking pipe. Used to smoke hookah in the evening with friends, but now I'm posted to site work, need better civilized way to relax. Thanks a lot for the guidance.
It is great that you are back. You were greatly missed
I was doing this right thinking i was doing it wrong. THANK YOU FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE WISE ONE.
Thanks!
Thank you!
This is 100% correct. I've been smoking a pipe for 30 years and he's spot-on! Good job!
El Maestro! Super good technique 👌, after 38 years I learned really how to smoke a pipe!
I was smoking the wrong way until I saw this video... THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! You've taught me almost everything I know about smoking a pipe.
It "builds cake on the mind" of any smoker! Excellent as always!
holy shit all these years and I've been doing it so wrong.
What a legend you are
Thank you so much for this video! It helped me tremendously. My dad gave me a pipe and I've been getting more into it. But could not figure out the ash taste like you were saying. I just smoked a bowl with your breathing method and the taste, experience and everything was perfect. Your videos are great, thank you again!
PJ O'Neil - You bet PJ, I’m glad your experience is better then it was. 👍👍👍
Eric. 🇺🇸✌️
I followed his instructions. It works well! It gives you a nice long relaxing smoke. Bowl stays cool too.
Sage smoking advice indeed, he was spot on when he said that the automatic way of smoking will all but make it impossible to relax.
May I say just thank you!! I was making the mistake you mentioned and now it's way more enjoyable and the pipe stayed cool!
Love this guys videos. Hes the Bob Ross of pipe smoking.
You bring me back to the days of "drinking smoke;" a time long ago. It's a good, relaxing feeling.
Argon Wheatbelly - I agree, and that’s a cool way to look at it, thanks for that. 👍👍👍
Chris Great Lesson and truly the way to smoke a pipe . When I first learned to smoke a pipe I was taught slow and steady. and if my pipe got to hot then I was smoking to fast . This method makes it truly easy ! Thank you Chris and hope your well my friend. Scott
Scottie dickens - you're right my friend, it almost makes it effortless. 👍👍👍
Thank you for this video! Your channel has been immensely helpful to me as a new pipe smoker.
Did he choose the mustache or did the mustache choose him?
No one cared who he was until he put on the muttonchops... Dark Knight Rises. 😆
I think it chose him and performed a hostile takeover!
One mustache to rule them all!
The mutton chop is common beard choice for pipe smokers
I love prepping my pipe and going through the steps along with the video. It's like a virtual pipe lounge. :)
Flyingferrets5 - that's cool my friend, glad I could be a part of your ritual. 👍👍👍
Exactly - a virtual lounge
Thank you so much for your video. Couldn’t grasp the concept of how to keep the pipe lite, preventing the pipe from scorching my hand and my tongue until now. I will put this method to work ASAP.
One thing I realize Muttnchop Piper / friend. Is for someone like myself, who doesn’t know any pipe smokers, watching your videos while smoking my pipe, in addition to offering great info, also provides the comradely that’s otherwise missing. Keep up the great work !
Sean Maxwell - Thank you Sean for the kind words, I’m glad I could be here to join you in a smoke from time to time. 👍👍👍
Mehmed Nedjib - thank you my friend, and you're right it is relaxing. 👍👍👍
My grandfather was a pipe smoker also... I remember the smell of his pipe when I was young man... He definitely enjoyed pipe smoking..... I've quit smoking about 18 yrs. ago but I am flirting with idea of starting up with pipe smoking....
Jeffrey Preston - Well I have a group of videos called “Just the Basics” if you decide to take it up. 👍👍👍
Hey, how's it going? If you don't mind me asking
A timeless ritual that should be respected even more so in this modern day.
Interesting how the ad for this video is "Live Tobacco Free". Damn tobacco nannies.
Bill M - I don't understand, I never authorized adds to be attached to my videos?
Muttnchop Piper The ad that shows up below the video when using the mobile you tube app. you have to click on it to play it. I have seen a lot of these anti-smoking videos popup when perusing pipe smoking videos in general.
Bill M - bunch of crap, forgive my language, they should have to get my permission to do that. 😖😖😖
Now I see why my pipe smoking wasn't relaxing. I was doing it wrong the whole time. Thanks for restoring my faith in pipe smoking.
I am already relaxed just by listening to you and watching !!!
Dirk Mullaert - Thank you my friend. 👍👍👍
The breath method has been a huge game changer. It's takes a bit of getting used to but I rarely get tongue bite now. Thanks MCP!
HotWings326 - you're welcome my friend, I'm glad I could help. 👍😃😃
Hey Muttnchop,
I just recently started pipe smoking a couple days ago. I watched a lot of your videos while waiting for my stuff. It helped a lot, thanks.
James Allen That's great to hear James, I'm glad you're enjoying the hobby. 👍👍👍
-Dave
I started smoking a pipe as a joke and now it’s one of my favorite things to do.
D - You bet my friend, I have a group of videos on this channel called “Just the Basics” I would start with those videos once your pipe arrives. 👍👍👍
i will most definately do that! a question i cant find an answer to: is it less enjoyable with a cobb pipe? i really wanted to get a longer country gentkeman or the cobbit shire? do you have a video about this that i havnt seen yet? what is your opinion of the cobbs? thank you for your input
~David
D - Yes, I have done a video on for cob pipes, and I own 3 myself. Cobb’s are a fine pipe, inexpensive and cool smoking. 👍👍👍
THANKS!👊
I finally figured out the breath method and I have to say I get much more flavor as well as picking out all the hidden flavors ,less bite and my pipe stays cooler. I smoke like that now and don't even know I'm doing. I can relax and do it without thinking about it. It's the best way I've found to smoke a pipe. That's just me tho. Cheers Chris
hillbilly piper - It’s the only way I smoke a pipe now. 👍👍👍
Pipelighter - you’re welcome my friend, and I appreciate the kind words. 👍👍👍
Thank you for the advice. Extremely helpful.
Another great video MC! You make it easy to understand and demonstrate really well. Inspired after each video
eggsandwichification - You are welcome my friend, and thank you for the compliment. 👍👍👍
Thank you for sharing this knowledge.
Doc Hatfield - Agreed my friend, agreed. 👍👍👍
Kenny McCoy hey you better watch it you got a Hatfield/Vance clan member here too *shakes fist* Haha Pipe on my brothers 👍✌️
8:40 yep I do that. Mostly because I have trouble keeping it lit and don't know enough yet. Your right it's hard to think about anything else smoking like that. Hope this works better!
Perfect! I will try it! I enjoy so much these videos! Thank you!
Loving the LOTR references on your baccy jars back there. You got any Old Toby, though? Fines leaf in the South Farthing.
Oh no... I was treating my pipe as a wooden cigar! Thanks a lot, sir!
Really awesome video kind sir thanks! Do you have any videos on smoking with clay pipes and their purpose? Thanks again!🙏🙏🙏
Really e
have been enjoying your videos, i'm a new to intermediate piper. your tips are helpful and have made smoking more enjoyable. thanx for the good work!
Ex cigarette smoker. Love the idea of pipes and would love to start but don’t want to go down the addiction path again. Might look at herbal but kinda defeats the purpose 😂
Thank you for going through this! I learned something today! 👍🏼 some of the pipe smoking on YT is super fast paced!
stutter (Cynthia+Susan) - your welcome my friend. 👍👍👍
