He announced 25 years for the Cardinals and 16 years for the Cubs. For whom was he more a fan? Obviously for a team who actually won 3 World Series during his tenure.
I don't know a thing about baseball, and this is the first time I've encountered Mr. Harry Caray - but for some reason I love this man. He's obviously spent a LOT of time hearing his voice greatly amplified. His enunciation is incredible - I rely a bit on lip-reading, so they way he speaks is like having captions on and in bold. He seems like the sort of guy who, had he lived to see 2020, could make me feel alright about how the year has gone.
Same here. I love how he took off on the interview. Fun aand loveable person. David wipes off a little sweat of his brow. Harry could've replaced him haha
Thanks so much for posting this. I watched and recorded it live in the summer of '86 but somewhere along the line (through too many moves and too many different cities/towns), I lost the recording. It's so great to hear it again!
Just imagine the stories that commentators like Harry Caray and Ernie Harwell could tell, the players that they have seen. I have been a lifelong Tigers fan, and a fan of Ernie Harwell...he was the voice of Michigan summers. Commentators like Caray and Harwell cannot be replaced.
I'm a lifelong Cards fan (born in 82), but I grew up watching the Cubs on WGN because it was the only baseball I could watch on TV. We didn't get much Cardinals baseball on TV where I'm from. My grandpa (a Yanks fan) and I used to love listening to Harry call the ball games. I miss those days. Harry was such an awesome man.
I grew up listening to Harry calling the Cardinals games in St. Louis. . .Couldn't believe it when they fired him. . .At one time in the 60's the Cardinals had a fantastic announce booth consisting of Harry Caray, Jack Buck, and Joe Garagiola. . .I loved listening to all three calling a Cardinals game. . .Even when the team wasn't doing well, Harry made the game fun to listen to. . .Those were the days. . .

I grew up in Chicago born in 1970 and it seems like he was always talking in the background everywhere we went. He was a character when getting his buzz on, players would be running around the bases and he wouldn't be paying attention off talking to Jim and Nancy from Wasgeegan, Wisconsin on their 50th anniversary or something besides what was happening on the field. Hilarious and classic !! Hey Hey Hey !!
God Bless Harry! He brought up Ernie Harwell first. Overlooked by the majority of the fans, outside Detroit. If you never heard Ernie, you missed a great, wonderful and knowledgeable fan.
True, but this time they are going to actually win the World Series. What happened to the smart ass Cleveland fan comment? I guess he quickly deleted it tonight.

My grandma would take me to 1 cub game a year. She adored Harry. One trip he gave her a kiss through the security fence. She never stopped talking about that the rest of her life.
Always loved Cubs baseball and Harry was a big part of that. He was there every game. The Cubs spent a lot of time in the basement but even when they were in last place he announced the games as though they were in the series.

I went to Carey’s restaurant in Chicago years ago. Sadly, he had already passed away. I wanted to meet him. But I was too late. The food was great however! The steak 🥩 was 2 inches thick. The biggest steak 🥩 I ever saw on a plate! I thought to myself Chicago people like to live big. This is the big city and the steaks are big, too. I’m from a smaller city. So I highly recommend his restaurant! The food and atmosphere were fantastic but he wasn’t around anymore so that was my only regret. God Bless Harry Carey! What a Character! Harry was a legend. He made it fun to watch even when the Cubs were losing. It wasn't all about him, he genuinely wanted the fans along for the ride.
they don't make announcers like him or vin scully anymore...

He was a great guy. He made it fun and interesting to watch baseball on TV even when the Cubs were losing.
Don't they always lose? So you're saying, he actually made it worth watching it? Like he's literally the only reason to watch right?
Harry called home runs as if he had never seen one before
Growing up in Chicago, this man is a legend. May he rest in peace.
Too bad he died before the 98 season started😥😥😥 Imagine him with calling all of Sammy Sosa's home runs😃😃😃👍👍👍👏👏👏👏
What a tremendous broadcaster's voice, and a helluva regular guy.
