The bottle you got is the HK handover 5 yrs anniversary edition Maotai. There were 2002 bottles in total, and from what I've heard, only about half of them got out on the market. Price is kinda hard to estimate, but there was a similar edition auctioned by Sothebys and it was sold at 150000 hkd. That was few years ago so now it's probably somewhere around $30k. Anyway, those old Maotai bottled around 2000s are just masterpiece, glad you enjoyed it.
Maotai is indeed one of the most expensive Chinese liquor you can get, because of its harsh distilling conditions and the distinct taste that stands out, and those really good ones give a smooth burn. Best to drink during very cold winter, good maotai can help warm you up smoooothly. I would say Korean soju might have a similar taste but still quite different .
very interesting!
Korean soju taste firey, immature and lots of off flavours. Very horrible
Wrong. It's expensive because it was chairman Mao's favorite. Literally no other reason. Baijiu is disgusting, cheaply made, bottom of the barrel swill with no redeeming qualities other than it'll get you absolutely hammered.

@@-TriP-中国几千年的酒文化传承 关毛主席什么事情?
there's 4 major baijiu(白酒) [汾酒, 茅台, 老窖, 凤酒] in China, and Maotai is one of them and it's the more expensive ones. "飞天茅台“ is one of the more expensive one, the one you hold there, it's a VIP special edition, it should come in a box with a golden cup
Might be a cologne bottle that was mis-translated.
I think that was it
@@JohnnyDrinks Red sorghum grain they use to make the mash for that bottle of alcohol
This just shows how stupid y’all Americans are
I love this detective style video where you try and figure out the bottles history and when it was made. So cool!!!!! Please make another vid like it!

Maotai, probably a very old souvenir edition because i haven't seen this sort of packaging in China. Damn must be of high value
Maotai is a type of Chinese rice wine but very expensive. There is a Chinese market by my house that sales very expensive liquor. The market is called Hawaii supermarket located in San Gabriel, CA.
Hey neighbor!
lol hello fellow SG. im up the street from hawaii supermarket. i might go inside and check out the maotai, ive tried all kinds of different liquor, including most asian ones, yet i never really tried bai jiu or chinese. for some reason it seems, culturally, chinese alcohol hasn't had a big impact on americans. everyones had sake and soju
thanks for the info!
@@JohnnyDrinks If you are visiting California I recommend checking out the supermarket as well as Wing Hop Fung.
Maotai is not rice wine. It's a fermented sorghum wine.
Never tell pops his favorite bottle of liquor taste like cheap liquor 😂 0-100 real quick
Please keep us updated. That's cool. Great video 👍 👍
thanks Steve!
Sojo and Sake are more like each other, but Maotai is just another level. This brand is only for treating your most valuable friends or clients in China.
Definitely an extremely different taste.
The legend goes that this drink was used by Mao's Red Army during the Civil War to lift their spirits and disinfect wounds! I had the pleasure of having some a while back and hooo boy was it an experience!
that's awesome!
You're joking. During the civil war, Mao Zedong was in Shaanxi, Chiang Kai shek was in Chongqing, and almost Chiang Kai shek controlled Guizhou. What you said made Chinese people laugh!
If the burn stays tight on your tongue almost prickly it’s prolly made with more of the heads when distilled not necessarily methanol in it but pulled from the beginning of the run heads carry more flavor but they bite
The thing about Moutai is it doesn't get to your head. You'll get drunk but not a hangover. It has health benefits too
Importantly, Chinese baijiu is fermented and distilled differently (unlike all Western spirits), Chinese baijiu is made using a variety of yeasts and dry distilled directly from grains (rather than distilled from liquid)
I check the one you hold, it‘s kind like special version on Maotai liquor which is used in state banquet or diplomatic occasion. And the price is gonna be 10000+ RMB.
this is for sure a limited edition with high premium. normal moutai sales for $200-$300 still quite expensive. Symbol for social status adn often appears in important business occasions
6:17 "this is not sake"
korean clearly on the label lol
Love the videos boys! Brings be back to my childhood in Jersey
cheers!
It’s FIREBALL!!!
This is a Guibin Maotai or Maotai for distinguished guests. Super rare and only for important guests in China, such as dignitaries and important people of foreign contries, some more distinctive versions only for foreign presidents. possibly cost more than 3k in the US but hardly to find.
it is Moutai Bu Lao Jiu worth around $95 in 2008
这是贵宾特制茅台,你去京东上搜搜价格
Hahahahahaha the dragon comment is the best 😂😂😂
Chinese baojiu are made to go with food. Add some spicy chinese food or some red braised meat. And you will get another experience
You guys should drink some hibiki 17. Probably the best Japanese whisky out there in my opinion. Cheers friends : )
Will look into it! Thanks for the suggestion.
I love suntory toki
Your guys channel makes me want to drink again.
Stay strong, it’s probably not worth it for you.
Is there a cigar that you celebrate with the one for a special occasion
we could do a cigar video
Awesome vid we want more 🔥🔥
You got it!
If you were to get drunk by it, there won’t be bad hangover
That’s what I’ve heard!
Great video those chinese white wine liquor are very potent and mellow out on the spiciness the more years its kept after 15 years of keeping it its near priceless
fermented bean it is
Im going to my first golf tournament August 18 .. what attire do you recommend?
"The best liquor in china" didn't really sell it for me
Sorry
Sotheby’s has it 2008 kweichow moutai
I kinda want to see a review on everclear 🤔
hmmmm
@@JohnnyDrinks mixed Cocktails with everclear 😁
I made the mistake of taking a shot of Everclear. I won’t be doing that again.
Mao Tai from before a certain year is worth a shit ton. Something to do with yhe spring water used or some shit.
I think Johnny was a little drunk at the end. maybe had 1 too many sips
I found a bottle that looks extremely similar but could’ve slightly changed in the last 15 years, maybe it’s that? Kweichow Moutai Bu Lao Jiu
“贵宾特制茅台”
I've watched a lot of your videos and you always tap the bottle. Why do you tap the bottle? Just curious.
A signature move
@@JohnnyDrinks thank you for taking the time to answer my question, I appreciate that. Keep up the good work and video content, awesome job you guys.

haha we gotchu man!
What kind of alcohol is it? Is it a rice alcohol?
It is a rice alcohol aka rice wine in Chinese.
yes
You guys should review everclear
Notes of liquorice
Your sake commentary will not be forgiven
Awesome tasting!
4:21 cherry cordial?
Chinese baijiu :)
Sort of like Jack Daniels
yea sorta
Good chance it’s a counter Fit
bussin
Some kind of rice liquor
Try Taiwanese Kaoliang. Colourless liquor but so much flavour, you won't be disappointed 👍.
will do!
You should try some good Sake and Soju too. Nice video guys!
Agreed! Big sake fan
Try Metallica's blackened whiskey 👌
MD 20/20
I knew it tasted familiar
It’s worthless. Really. It isn’t worth anything. It’s liquid in a bottle. Get real folks But hey, it got attention. 😂😮💨
oh this is 茅台! make a cocktail plz
Really amazing sir...🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍🏻👍🏻😃😃
Been here before 200k love you guys. Johnny drinks the G.O.A.T
Probably fake liquor at that lol
I've heard baijiu tastes like complete sht.
LOL v entertaining. Sounds like you might need an expert
Nothing is sockay, it's saki(sock-ee)
wrong
I saw one it was like 53 bucks no hate
Is it Baiju?
I miss my dad 😌
Another reason for its value (not from any inside source, but from a general belief amongst some people in Beijing) is a lot of distilleries are making a cheaper, more potent, but non-traditional and “fake” maotai, and passing it off as the same premium product. The number of real maotai bottles that are sold now are far scarcer than some decades ago, and thus are far more expensive- though the fake ones are sold for some hefty prices as well 😂
So cool that you have a legit bottle from 15 years ago! Jealous.
Must be nice to wave all of that money of yours around on the internet.
Hi
hey
@@JohnnyDrinks I love your videos 😁
Soy bean alcahol. Yum🤢
Not worth it
Once it's bottled, unlike wine, it stops aging and starts to degrade in quality. If you drank it 15yrs ago it would have been incredible. Now it would just be flavoured methanol.
Overrated and overpriced.
Avoid most things from China. No MSG?
Sentimental value?
10K/ bottle? You know what you can do with your bottle. Geez.
Peace
JF
This is the VIP Special edition of the Maotai Baijiu. Originally comes with a box and a golden goblet. A 2006 bottle is worth 10000 yuan in China as of now, and the bottle itself is sold at 5000 yuan empty. Not as expensive as 10000 dollars, but still it's a precious gift.
Please update us on this one gentleman I've been sober for 14yrs and I am very intrigued by this lol yall stay motivated and keep the bangers coming I greatly appreciate all the amazing content 👍🏻🇺🇸💯👊🏻
thanks for watching Jeremy! Will do
Drink with us btother
That is infact how dragons spit fire
I knew it
This is a 2008 special edition that comes as a pair in a wooden box. I see an auction record online from hongkong that the set was sold for 47500HKD which is approx. 6000 USD. Considering it’s only one bottle instead of the whole set, maybe 2k?

interesting bottle of moutai...maybe i can try and look it up and research into it as far how old and how much that bottle is...as im chinese myself and can ask around my community and family members...any way u can post a more closer detailed picture of the front and back of the bottle?...and i can get some family members 2 translate
we tried translating but didn't find the year. I think it is 30 years

That's cool. Going on a journey of discovery with the channel 💯
Come along with us!
It’s Moutai 30 year old
I found it for about 5,000 dollars
Bottle was mislabeled sent to a liquor store instead. Its actually fragrance 🤣
Woops!
“It comes from CHINA!” -45th
Mind you when the Chinese drink their liquor they almost always do so with bites of snacks like peanuts or edamame or meats. Drinking the liquor alone is a sign of melancholia in Asian culture.
Can we do sambuca?!?!??
Great idea! My grandpas favorite drink.
Two suggestions, if you guys are in LA, there’s a sake brewery called Nova. The guy does it all the old school way, pretty sure there’s videos of him on UA-cam.
Would also like to hear your thoughts on Kavalan. It’s a taiwanese whisky brand, and their head “taste-master” or whatever it’s called, spent years learning about scotch and whisky in Europe.
But yes, unflavored soju, that red bottle, doesn’t have a good flavor. All the other fruit flavors are good, but the “Fresh” flavor has a bit of a cleaner taste. Soju that comes in green bottles is kinda generic but if you find some that don’t come in the green bottles, there’s some real good quality stuff out.
Most times you drink it with a meal so that it does down easier
I thought once you put liquor in glass it stops aging!
3000dollars in china…special edition
10,000 usd??? You're lying, maybe 100 usd, even the one that costs 20 USD is a lot bro 🤣🤣🤣
Agree Soju is drinking distilled dirty socks
I found it. I gave up posting the link. It auto deletes i think. It costs over 20.000$ it says. But for 2 bottles. So one goes for 10k at the moment.
I can try putting the chinese letters of the website in here if you want to investigate further:
2008年 貴州茅台 貴賓特制 一套二支 X 500ML
Edit: 20.000 hongkong dollars was the starting bidding price it seems. Sorry for making you hopes that it's worth 10k. Didn't know about hongkong dollars until now
It sold for 47,000 HKD for two bottles which makes its around $3000 per
wow! Thank you
@@JohnnyDrinks No problem. I just copy pasted the chinese letters from wikipedia to google, searched for images, and found it 2min later
Baijiu
Maotai uses Red sorghum grain with wheat and use their their own local water and yeast which cannot be replicated anywhere else
interesting.
It's 56% alcohol
yup. strong.
Oh my god, do not just take one shot and call it a day. Rest a few minute and take another, it just gets more and more sweet and fragrant after every shot!
The colour of this moutai can tell the price already, you had a really good neighbor..
Can you make a cocktail with it?
great idea
Would not recommend making cocktail with it. You wouldnt use a high end wine to make a sangria, but in the end its your choice
I'm here waiting for it to hit looks good
What is the smoothest dark liquor you can purchase under $50
Could be a good video idea 🤔
Remmy martin.
Definitely rich and rare or r&r
its probably bijo...
