It's crazy you did a workshop job that would cost more than 2000 usd on your own backyard garage. Respect Brother. Most people don't have the balls to open their own engine, let alone handle timing and correct torque specs.
Compliments to you for handling the whole job yourself, only thing I would have done different is replaced the famous hydraulic valve lifter tick while your at it
Very nice job. It’s a lot of works but you save a lot of money. What usually goes in the electric water pump is the electronics, at around 80k km they start to fail. Saludos from Argentina 🇦🇷
This isn't as complicated as it looks intimidating. This is the only car I would consider replacing the head gasket on. It's pretty user friendly & not allot in the way of getting to those point. Some engines have too much junk over the engine that you have to remove before you can even consider starting on removing the valve cover. This is EASY. But only for this car. Not sure about others.
Definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. Ive been dreading this for almost a year now when I broke a spark plug in the head and the mechanic wanted about $7000 to remove the head and drill the plug out but it doesnt look too bad to do myself. A lot less work than my frontier's head gaskets. That was the stuff of nightmares.
@@MrLildeg8you’re probably talking about your valve cover leaking the head gasket doesn’t get a “small leak” it blows due to heat and pressure and seeps coolant into your oil passages and destroys your engine by thinning out your oil until irreversible damage is done
Great video! I enjoyed it. Would be cool to post torque specs but im sure i can find them. Also missed the timing aspect of things, it went too fast, would be good to see what you did and process.
@@dakotawright9781 after looking, that darker color is the magnesium casing around the Aluminum open deck. It stays. I’m doing mine hopefully his weekend. Just carefully clean the gasket residue.
Very Nice Video. But can u Maybe explain How u knew How do put on the vanos wheels? Do they have Marks on them or something like that ? Thank you very much 👍🏻
I agree, I was also wondering about that. When my N52 waterpump went out, it shut off once it detected overheating and wouldn't let me drive at all until it cooled down.
I’ve got a 2013 xdrive 35i X5 ,I put recommended amount of oil in at oil change. I did not account for possible residual oil let in the engine, long story short,I developed an oil leak shortly after and believe I blow my head gasket. Sound about right? What can I expect in terms of rebuild hours?
It's extremely easy to do & learn for THIS car. Other cars are a bit more complex. N52 is a user friendly engine that any noob into cars can learn to restore & maintain themselves.
Would replacing the water pump be easier when head of engine is off for head gasket replacement? Just thinking whether i should just get it done then if its any easier because I know its not a pleasant job due to cramped space.

Me trying to do the same thing but a woman & everyone I’ve asked for advice on my bmw offered me a new car 😂

Great video....good explaining for mechanical minded people.
Thank you !!***

What about on an 2009 e70 n52? Mine has a slow leak and I am thinking of replacing it..

Very well done sir. Extremely brave man🫡‼️🔥🔥🔥
Great video mate, well done!

Did you ever find them
Hello did you put head gasket sealer when putting the gasket?
Great video. Would you know where to find bolt torque sequence copy? Thanks..any link
usually its the eletronic on the water pump that dies due to the heat cycles.
Ever bust one of the magnesium bolts?
Nice! Those guns are breaking the bolts now! Haha, great job
Did you leave the outer layer of gray material outside the sealing surfaces? how has this repair held up?
He didn’t remove it. But are you suppose to? I’m currently doing a head gasket and removed it all

He used the timing tool for this job.
Where are you good man??
Time is difficult for me to set can you help me set the timing for e90 four cylinder
Where you based in Cape Town
At how many miles it failed?
anyone know if you can do this without pulling the engine on an n54 ?
I bet it was fun removing those snapped aluminum bolts.
Is there a diagram to retime it ?
So once overheating, wouldn't the dme enforce limp mode to protect engine and avoid head gasket damage?
Not sure how you managed to blow it!
I agree, I was also wondering about that. When my N52 waterpump went out, it shut off once it detected overheating and wouldn't let me drive at all until it cooled down.
My clylinder 2 is grtting coolant and looks like piston is off
I have a similar car and i think it has a similar problem, how much would you charge?
He did this bc coolant in cells right

What special tools are needed for this job?
Excellent video brother!
How did you learn to take the engine head apart, looks intimidating ?
It's extremely easy to do & learn for THIS car. Other cars are a bit more complex. N52 is a user friendly engine that any noob into cars can learn to restore & maintain themselves.
Thanks for clearing many things. how many hours took totally this job?
Did I miss something or did you really use the old head bolts?🤔
Think you missed it.
I heard of people doing it I’m just scared they will break
They look new to me.
You can hear slight bubbling in my expansion tank at 225k miles. I think its time.

No, water pump is easy from bottom.
You shouldn't have to do any of that for replacement of simple waterpump. That is easy.
I need mines done
please tell me u tried replacing the oil filter housing gasket before doing the head gasket
@0xUWU yes 100%
Good job...
It’s a easy job
