- In today's video, we're changing the valve cover gasket and associated seals on this E91 328i! The procedure will be the same for all N52-powered cars, such as the 528i and 128i (also x-drive models). Below are some of the parts you'll need for this job, comment down below with any questions or tips on how you completed this yourself!
Parts:
N52 Valve Cover Gasket Set - 11127582245
Valvetronic Motor Seal - 11127552280
Eccentric Shaft Sensor Seal - 11127559699

I've done the job before. But this is a great refresher and I got a couple of good tips. Love strapping the wires up! Great video, well done!
This guys editing is hilarious
Going to smash this job tomorrow after watching this a few times!
Welcome back, Chris!!!
Great video, thanks for providing socket sizes and torque specs!
Thanks for sharing Chris. The engine is in great condition too, nice color. Have a great week. Dutch regards Nico.
Thanks Nico!
I have to do this soon and I’m terrified, welcome back and miss your content
Don't be. It was the first DIY repair I did on my car when I got it. Just take your time, and be gentle with the plastic bits
You can do it!
How did it go sir?
@@sw2599 havent done it sir. A single tear weeps from my engine each passing day
@@Andren3000 well, have you done it yet? Lol
Doesn’t look to bad honestly looks like it will be easier on my x5 since it has more space
Thank you 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
Great video 🤘💯
Great video ! Thank you mate
you and Sreten make the best bimmer vids
Thank you very much that's a big compliment 🙏
Great job
Thank you
Hey, thanks for the vid, it's super clear.
Do you know if the parts are the same for my e61 523i?
I'm in the process of doing mine soon as well and just watching you pulling everything off ohh my goodness it's not very tempting haha! Plus when doing anything to this European cars u gotta have the right tools...I've got to do all my seals n gasket on my n52
I'm doing this on an N52B30 at the moment and I just can't seem to pop the clip for the PCV off. You make it look so easy!
Okay I got it off, turns out you can just squeeze the raised pieces and the clip and it'll slip off. No need to pry it with a screwdriver like I did
Thanks for the video and I'm blessed Z4 has huge engine bay to work on DIY
Aint that the truth. Same with water pump and thermostat underneath - plenty of room.
@@YTuberositydefinitely a keeper and a project car in any sense.
Did this now the engine won't start only cranks. Rhd model. Checked over every plug. Im stumped.
I'm about to get myself E91 with N52, should I also invest into aluminum valve cover when I get into this?
Could this by any chance cause to throw an exhaust camshaft sensor error?
Nice!
I might have to try disconnecting the harness ,but even then there's a hard oil linne that goes across the valve cover into the oil pump. Which prevents me from taking it out
Where you been man? Great video.
Been working on my personal channel, building out some businesses things. Can't wait to share with everyone!
Good video. Just a question: which product did U use for cleaning cylinder head at minute 4.05. Thanks.
Looked like the can said brake cleaner?
You released this right after I just did one last month 😔
nice video. but what was that last peice you took out before putting the cover back on?
That's a bracket for the a/c line at the back of the engine bay, if you take it off it gives you a lot more room to get the valve cover on/off!
@@TheBimmerBarn ok but what happens to the ac line doesn’t it need the bracket to stay in place or no?
I'm about to do this job. I'm surprised at how easy this is, compared to the N55
When checking for leaks (at the end), how will applying lubricant help...?
Did mine 1.5 months ago, started leaking again, but not as bad yet.
Days later also got an "air mass mix" error code. Car drops revs when idling and/ or standing still in Park. Checked everything, it looks fine, sensor fine.
CAN a leak at the tappet cover caise this air sanction issue? Thanks
Check the EGR hose on the back of the valve cover. These turn brittle due to heat sink, when you removed it from the valve cover it may have fractured. It is wrapped in closed cell foam so its hard to visually see if it is broken but a gentle squeeze along the hose should give you an idea if it's still in one piece.
Thank you. Will have a look.
I actually replaced the entire tappet cover about 7 weeks ago.
No leaking evident, until 2 weeks ago when I had to hard brake and make a sharp left turn...seconds later white smoke appeared from the bonnet. Parked and it's like oil spewed out at the side again...meaning there is a opening, even though no visible oil yet. But that hard brake and sharp turn did something.
Does the eccentric motor self-calibrate on startup? I have to do this job along with the eccentric motor sensor.
Yes that's correct! Just turn the key to position 2, and you'll hear it adjust before (takes 3-5sec) before you start the motor 👍
@@TheBimmerBarna lot of people say you have to “back out” the eccentric motor prior to taking it off. I didn’t see you do that, but it self adjusted at the end. Is backing it out necessary?
Nice work. How long would this be in real time? I suspect around 3 hours?
10 hours
Do I need to buy a new Valvetronic motor seal and eccentric shaft seal? Or will the valve cover gasket do?
just the valve cover gasket will usually do, but I'd recommend atleast doing the valvetronic motor seal so you don't get oil in your sparkplug tubes
It's more like half a day job 😂😂😂
3 hours tops
😂 gotta know that with these shits. Not looking forward too much
Under 6mins stands for the lenght of the video obviously...
I'd rather have a quick video like this one with everything covered, including bolts sizes, that only last this long instead of a 20mins one that won't provide you with more info anyway.
This video is really well made, good job !
Cheesus Crust, I've never seen it be done on N52 or newer, what a nightmare. I know why I stopped at M52/M54. Good work though.
Why did it smoke at the end
@4:40 where are your spark plug tubes?
amazing that i'm seeing this just after you posted it... those heat shields can go in from the top with the valve cover installed
@@kingly71 ha! Ok, thanks for clearing that up
A lot of stuff to remove compared to my e36 haha
I hate tedious jobs 😢😂
Everythings easy until you go to remove it and its stuck on everything. Mine is stuck back left whete the ac line is. Done this one 5 different e90s now. Never can pull sttaight off lol always something
bro so annoying to do this job; you make it seem so easy
Replace the entire cover. And it will take 6-10 hrs.
Remove in 6 min put back in 6 hours
