@@SimpleCarGuy Yeah engines out inspected it and so far looks rebuildable. Need injecter puller tool so I can take the head off and inspect the cylinders.
Really enjoyed this series thx. Whats that tool you used to fish the washer out? I was replacing my VCG (2013 x5 n55) and noticed a small piece (feels plastic, like a half inch cap) sitting between cyl 4 and 5, unfortunately it fell down the oil return duct before I got it out. So thinking about fishing it out and magnetic probably won't work. What do you suggest? Would that piece fall into the oil pan? Thanks again!
Sorry for the late response! I used this to fish it out: ua-cam.com/video/vcLc2i52oQI/v-deo.html but you can use almost anything. And yes, it should have fallen all the way down to the oil pan.
@@SimpleCarGuy thx, you are right it did fall all the way down. I was able to push it through the drain hole since it's too small to lift out. Used a cheaper borescope that wifi to the phone.
interesting that unless I missed it you didn't seem to be concerned or check to ensure the intake and exhaust cams were still in somewhat correct timing. Without the chain installed and not knowing you could bend a valve if you installed the head out of time with the long block. Are N55s not an "interference engine"? EDIT - I just watched the beginning and saw you ensured via the BMW tool the top end was in time before you took it off!! - Great video series!!
Timing is set after. I have a video where I change the timing chain and time the engine. At this point of the process, the camshaft adjusters are not even in yet.
Question if I’m taking the head to the machine shop does it matter to time the engine since they will probably remove the cams at the machine shop? Mines came out a flood car so I can’t spin the engine a complete 360.
It doesn’t really. As long as you can take off the bolts on the camshafts without the tool you should be good to go. Of course you will have to make sure you time the camshafts and the entire engine once back during reassembly.
I wouldn't recommend really cleaning anything other than with a plastic scraper and gasket remover. It doesn't have to look pretty. Even the tops of pistons can be dirty and it doesn't impact the engine.
I have no idea on cars but I need some help literally this morning my bmw started shaking like crazy after driving fast on the high way. When I got home it was still shaking and check engine came on, checked for codes I had cylinder 3 and 2 misfire, went ahead replaced spark plugs and coils car starts up but check engine light is still on. Checked for codes and it still has a cylinder 3 misfire all but now when I drive my vehicle a bunch of white smoke is coming out my exhaust smells like gas fumes. Please anybody give me options of what’s going on with my vehicle idles rough and thick white smoke coming out the back.
Thanks for watching!

Loving the videos. My n55 is free from the transmission and ready to come out. Ran out of time so I'll have to get back to it later today.
Thanks, man! Did you get it out? How's it looking?

These videos have been great for my e82 project especially since newtis is no longer available. Thanks for documenting!
Glad to help and thanks for watching!
these N55 videos are great. Nice editing and explanations. Can't wait to see more
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching and I hope it helps someone in the future as I’d love to have something like this before starting.
Amazing content, thanks for all the effort. The quality has really gone up here!
Much appreciated!
Hitting like and posting a comment to support your channel. Go n55! Great video as always.
Nice work 🎉
Those skinny bolts were tough on the degrees!
another nice video. wondering if you could drop a manual you are using during assemblies?
I just rebuilt mine in the car changed a piston and done cylinder head
how much did it cost u ?
i need to change a connecting rod and want to know estimate cost
I installed an intercooler & bigger non plastic chargepipe on my 2011 N55 & that alone took many hours. What car will this go in, hopefully a coupe
It’s going into a 335i e92 M-Sport couple :)

Has anyone stripped the block where the headbolts go in? If so, what was done to remedy it? Did you use a bigger bolt? Or did you go with helicoil?
What is the torque specs of the oil squirter and eccentric shaft stopper bolts?
My head bolts were piping and cracking while I was torqueing them down is this normal?
Would this be the same torque specs for an S55 engine?
Watched because I have a n55, 25k miles though ha. They're like 2k damaged, 4-5k working over here in uk :o
It’s about the same here. I got a very good deal on the used one, that’s for sure.
To the group...mine is pumping water into spark plug hole on Cylinders 5&6....gasket...or cracked head?

do i have to remove the motor for the head gasket really?
Hi bro
I need to buy the touque measure but then eBay sells it without the cable. What the name of the cable?

Never lubed up the head bolts I'm assuming, huh?
What site do you use for instruction for the build.

Can you share with n55 repair manual?
I used newtis website and Ista-D (I think that’s what’s it called)
Hi there, did you machine the head or just clean it up and install gasket?
I did not, I cleaned and made sure it didn't have any damage and then installed the gasket.

Only bmw owners use sand paper on there engine and think its ok
