    I'd say they are over-hyped, not over-rated... For me the dealbreaker is the AF lens. I like fully manual lenses and I'm not going to make myself stuck with an AF lens that is only focus by-wire when focused 'manually'. I think manual focusing is fun and I've always wished Fuji would embrace that part of the photography experience

      Oh I honestly don’t think it’s overrated lol just made it a thumbnail to feed of triggered fanboys’ tears haha. Yeah I wish this camera focussed on the art of manual focusing as well but they might not sell as much or rather might not be able to sell at such a high price

    I got an X100v for just below retail in 2020 and I love it. It was my first Fuji and I was definitely not a 'Fan boy' or a hipster. It really forced me to be better and has improved my seeing and composition hugely. Can it do everything, no of course not, but what it does , it does very well. I agree that the inflated prices are crazy. People say that I could make several hundred on my three year old camera if I sold it , but I love it so much that I can't let it go.

      Hey man what can I say? When a camera speaks to you, it speaks to you. There are some things money just can't buy. Are there any other cameras you've felt this way about?

      Thank you! I see your videos and it looks like you're from Portugal? I'm heading there in August if you're down to connect!

    A lot of people overlook the ricoh gr. A lot of film shooters enjoy the control they have and not having the camera do all the work for us. I really enjoy the snap focus feature which is zone focusing including the older x100 where the slow autofocus blurring your shots make it feel real.

      Doesn’t have a flash. A no-go in terms of equivalence. I shoot a Fuji x70 and can’t tell you how many times the flash has come in clutch. Completely rules out the Gr.

      I'd honestly be interested in it but the price tag vs lack of versatility doesn't really make sense to me which is why I chose not to recommend it. No doubt great results I've seen from many GR series users

    The closest you can get to film with digital isnt an X100V or any modern CMOS sensor camera. It's the old 3-6 megapixel CCD sensor digicams that have become so popular lately. Shots from my Canon G2 and Kodak DC4800 look much more like film than an X100V or any modern digital camera. They are all far too sharp, sterile and CMOS colors just suck IMO. My 2 cents from doing this nearly 20 years with TONS of cameras from film to instant film to digital and everything from 35mm to 120 to MF digital.

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  Рік тому +1

      Not sure if I 100% agree with that because CCD sensors are nice but they lack a lot in terms of dynamic range to provide the detail of film. Raw files will allow you immense flexibility in terms of pushing your colours into different looks. If you’re talking straight out of camera “look like film” thing, I believe it’s processing that brings it out that way as it was made in the time when digital was newer so making digital files look like normal popular looks at that time seemed like a good choice

      @@walter_fernandez yea, it definitely depends on the sensor because there are a ton of crappy CCD sensors. The Fuji SuperCCD sensors are the best IMO and look much more like film than any of their current cameras. Especially the DR versions that were specifically designed for dynamic range performance. The Fuji S5 Pro has nearly 14 stops of DR which was unheard of in 2006. Even the older Fuji point and shoot digicams with the SuperCCD are fantastic. Some of the later ones, like the F70EXR have film simulations like Provia, Velvia and Astia. It was Fujis first attempt at film simulations in digital cameras to try and get film shooters shooting digital. They have a closer look to film than any modern Fuji camera. Wish they would bring that sensor back in modern camera bodies.

      bogus, ccd sensor is just crappy sensor back in the old days, i'm glad we moved past those days, if you want less sharp, just reduce the sharpness. can't wait for the newer gen or old folks comes back and says that chromatic abberations is a desired looks. it gives character or something retard like that.

    I can't stand those film simulations, it's just getting borderline tacky...
    The main issue I have with fujifilm apsc cameras is their limited dynamic range that makes them very difficult to use in contrasted scenes.

    • @random6809
      @random6809 Рік тому +4

      If you need more that 12 stops then you are doing something wrong. As for simulations, feel free to spend your time sat in from of Lightroom while I am out taking pictures, there is noting more "tacky" than post-processing.

      @@random6809 I try my best to get natural results and especially colors, film simulations have been a major dissapointment for me. As for dynamic range I should may be give a try to dr200 and dr400 settings because when the sky is bright and exposure is adjusted for highlights it does get tricky...

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  Рік тому +1

      @@random6809 hey I'll take more dynamic range if there's more available lol. As for your 2nd statement I don't even know how to respond to that 😂

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  Рік тому +2

      Honestly, I love the film simulations but as I've mentioned, it doesn't come close to replacing film in my workflow.
      As for the dynamic range issue, it's something that I've lived with for a while so I'm not really bothered by it. I've heard that the newer Fuji cameras have impressive dynamic range though.

    Sony/Canon are no experience cameras, but trade tools. X100V is camera which provides experience. To replace, it has to be another camera with experience. Which is Ricoh GRD, GR series.

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  Рік тому +1

      Photographers use Fuji cameras as trade tools as well. My point stands that "experience" that you speak of is subjective to the photographer.
      Ricoh GR cameras are indeed great alternatives but I was only focussed on the 3 mainstream camera brands as those are more accessible since most people have likely bought into the systems already and also to prevent the video from being an hour long lol

    • @kostyafedot551
      @kostyafedot551 Рік тому +1

      Yet, GR III is the closest and accessible alternative. No need to buy from mainstream.

    • @walter_fernandez
      @walter_fernandez  Рік тому +1

      @@kostyafedot551 again, these are subjective. Accessibility has to take into account financials, flexibility as well as availability.
      Mainstream brands are the ones I go for in recommendations simply because some people might already have equipment that can be used in this fashion. That literally could negate the need to get another camera just by a shift in perspective.
      As for availability, you've gotta understand that Ricoh cameras aren't readily available in just any random local camera shops. Cost for shipping these things could end up being a bomb when you're talking shipping a camera from for example the US to Malaysia where I live.
      I've gotta be realistic and accurate when it comes to passing information out so I don't want anyone thinking they need to splurge on cameras that are way beyond their reach to have fun with photography.
      Have fun with what you have man. My recommendations clearly aren't for you - but they could help a lot of other people make decisions to stop overspending on hyped up gear.
