UPDATE (Sept 2024) For 2025, GM is continuing the Camaro in NASCAR, but replacing the "Camaro" branding with "Chevrolet". Chevy is allowed to do this for just one year past production per NASCAR rules, so we'll have to wait until 2026 to see if my predictions in this video come true. Also, in a recent interview with Jay Leno, a Chevrolet exec has revealed that Corvette will not become its own brand, and will remain as a Chevrolet. Even so, I would not be surprised if Chevy expands the Corvette name to an crossover or sedan in the near future.
Oh man, I'd LOVE that! I actually think GM SHOULD bring Pontiac back as a youth-oriented brand. Younger generations really don't seem to care for Chevrolet, so that could help bring younger buyers back into the GM fold. And if they did that, a NASCAR version would be super cool to see. But unfortunately, I couldn't find any evidence that Pontiac will return.
@@RetroCarsForever That would be a waste of money. Look at how Scion's doing... yeah, it's dead. "Young people" cars end up being what some corporate suits think young people like, and end up being bought by older people that can actually afford them. Young people buy used cars, unless their parents are paying for it.
@@pavlejuranovic3043 But then Chevrolet would be spending millions to promote a car that no one could buy. I just don't see them continuing the Camaro in NASCAR if the street car is dead.
as if they didnt have enough crossovers, leave it to GM to ruin the Corvette with turning it into one after trying to cancel it so many times over the years. I miss the crazy ideas they had in the 90s and 2000s but i guess the bankruptcy changed their mindset on things :(
To be clear, the two seat sports car Corvette wouldn’t go away or be replaced. The crossover would be an addition (kind of like the Mustang and Mustang Mach E). And yeah, I kinda miss the old whacky inventive GM as well!
Don't let the negativity about using AI get to you, It's fine as a tool as long as you don't overdo it and don't try to pass it off as your own. Also, remember that anything that comes from AI is fair game, so don't put anything in there that would be an issue if leaked. Good video as always.
Thank you! I realize AI is a controversial subject, but I’m not calling it “art” and I wouldn’t have been able to make this video otherwise (at least not in a visual way like I wanted). It’s something I want to be careful with and can’t think of too many other videos where I would use it to this extent. Appreciate your thoughts, have a great evening 👍
In my opinion cars are pretty much dead . All that's left is the Mustang and Camry ( 4 door family car doesn't belong in Nascar ) I think the easy fix would be to make the Truck series the main cup series. Chevy , Ford etc .sell a lot of pickup trucks.
That’s an intriguing idea. But I do feel “trucks racing” is kind of a strange thought in NASCAR, always has been, to me stranger than “sedans” racing in the sport. So to me trucks are more of a sideshow than the main show, which is ideally sporty cars. But, I can see the business case behind making trucks the premiere series, and perhaps replacing that lower series slot with electric cars.
1. Corvette Racing did not dissolve. The team is still there, just without the funding allowed when GTE/GTLM existed. It is now called "corvette racing by pratt miller" 2. Considering the Toyota Supra attempt at nascar and it's failure, the mockery of various corvette Daytona Prototypes and GTP cars despite their success, this would be a kick in the teeth. 3. Rebranding Mustang as a brand failed, and I think GM knows this. They and ford were looking at Genesis and thinking they might be able to pull the same, but Genesis was not an established name when they transferred into a brand, even then the genesis name was attached to two completely different cars, the coupe and sedan. One a 2+2 JDM style RWD sports car and the other a "big engine" luxury sedan. 4. Cadillac is the right move. Caddy needs every bit of racing presence it can get if it will survive a reforming into a luxury-performance brand, especially if it will never have a halo car due to the Corvette lasting past the C7 generation. The C8 forced GM to give up Cadillac having a proper supercar. 5. If they use a cross over and GM allows it, Nascar is dead. Nobody gave a shit about the EV test, outside of some activists who will stop caring once they accomplish their goal of making it happen. Similarly nobody cares about crossover performance. ACO, FIA all of europe understands this, hence why we see hybrid being used in sleek prototypes, not bulky commuters. FE has been mostly a failure with DEI propping it up, although to be fair, a bunch of that has been trash urban courses, and crappy gimmicks like the fan boost that dilute the competition to something stupid like american idol voting popularity contest.
As I remember, NASCAR allows for a model up to two years after production. And I have seen renderings of a Camaro replacement sedan, which could then be raced when it hits production. No idea of the production timeframe, but its possible we see them race the current Camaro through 2026 either way.
You’re correct that NASCAR does allow “dead” models to race for a year or two, but would it make sense for Chevy to market a “dead” model? Where have you seen renderings of a Camaro sedan? I haven’t found anything official, and what I have heard is it will come back as an electric vehicle.
I'd say bring both the Cadillac CT5, and the Chevrolet Corvette into the Cup Series. It'd be pretty good seeing that like how they did it back then. And it'd also be back to 4 manufacturers, not just 3.
There was a time when you'd be out of your mind to think you'd see a Mustang in NASCAR or an import but now both are in NASCAR for Ford and Toyota. Chevy using the corvette in NASCAR might not be as far fetched as once thought seeing as there is nobody in their right mind that runs NASCAR anymore.
Exactly. I still remember how shocking it was that a four door TAURUS was going to be the basis of Ford’s race car, as that was unheard of at the time. So stranger things have happened.
Among the talk of Corvette spinning off into it's own brand was keeping a C7 or front engined option as a model for the purists. (or fogey's depending on your world view). Theoretically, a C7 could be raced close enough to stock to bring back that old adage!
Hey man! I've heard that rumor as well, but couldn't find a single source substantiating it. If I was running things, I'd include an "entry level" Corvette that was small, front engined, and slower/less expensive than the C8 (an idea that was kicked around with the C5 but ultimately didn't really happen). If THAT happened, then it would be the obvious vehicle for NASCAR, but it doesn't seem very likely. But we can dream!!
@@RetroCarsForever it would be interesting to see a Miata or an FRS, 86, BRZ type "Corvette" Small front engine , manual gearbox, rear wheel drive. NA or a Turbo. Light, agile, two doors. Not a fiero though 🔥

Hell they dont care to compete in those segments even though honda, toyota, nissan, kia and Hyundai all still sell cars in almost all segments and are still making garbage evs .people are already tired of ev's, the cost of charging, battery replacement etc. i love Caddies so id have no issue watching my favorite drivers race them over a god awful crossover P.O.S. Im a chevy man and have a 3rd gen Camaro,3 suburbans,a 60s chevy Scooby van but i also have 2 twin dodge Magnum wagons im 5.3 LS swapping one bcuz i love my rwd v8s
@RetroCarsForever me neither but at least Ford just made a new stang this year, even though it's ugly as hell at least they made one. it wouldn't be bad to see a Vette body in NASCAR. I saw a couple in late model races on floracing . And I may be on the less than half of the yay contingent who would buy a 4 door Camaro but not an EV one. I've always wanted to stretch a Camaro into a 4 door one the mach e is gross but then again I don't like ev"s and would only take a free one to trade in on a brand new suburban
Can I just say: I LOVE the fact that Corvette is going to be its own brand. It's about damn time! And I am really into the idea of seeing Cadillac in NASCAR. The brand can only benefit from that move.
Hey Terry! Cool to hear from someone who likes the idea of Corvette as a brand...I feel like a lot of reaction from Corvette fans was negative towards that news. For me, as long as they make ONE of the Corvettes a pure two-seat sports car, and if the new spinoff Vettes are made in America and support American jobs, I'm fine with. And yes, Cadillac in NASCAR! That would be epic. Not sure if I'd be MORE excited about Corvette or Cadillac in the sport, both would be terrific news.
Glad you like the videos! When you say you dont like the use of AI, do you mean in general, or specifically me using it in this video? In my case...I wasn't sure how else to visualize what I was talking about without it. My meager UA-cam budget negated the ability to pay an actual artist to make the 40 or so images that I needed. I ended up sick a week ago and had nothing else to do (or ability to film) so figured this would be an interesting experiment to try.
It’s not a huge deal, I just think the less people use Ai the better. I’m sure you couldn’t afford to pay an artist to render a bunch of different images of Corvette race cars, but still. It’s a bad shortcut, and I hope you aren’t going to lean too much into it. I would prefer it stay a fad.
@@sunnyd1722 I wish I could say that AI is a fad, but I don't think it's going away, whether we like it or not. Part of making this video was just learning how it worked. I’m not sure how I could’ve done this video any other way for the budget, unless I was just going to talk and not actually show anything, which just isn’t my style. But AI imaging is not something I plan on using much if at all in the future, this was kind of an experimental video to see what I could do.

Cadillac is strong contender to replace the NASCAR vehicle, but the Vette seems like a way more likely choice.
Agreed. I love the look of the Cadillac better as a NASCAR too, honestly. Seems to fit the basic profile a lot better.
