"Dark Side Of The Moon" "Wish You Were Here" & "The Wall" all contain heart wrenching moments during the story. That is life, all the pain, the sorrow along with the joy & laughter. One of the reasons I & many others love Pink Floyd. You too I feel.
This is so incredibly lovely to see a young person like you to enjoy Floyd so much and get so emotional and connected to their music. Theirs is timeless, beautiful music. Fantastic reaction Empress. Loved this!
I have watched almost every one of these reactions to this song and I have not seen ONE person get the real meaning of this song. They all think it is about this wonderful mother. WRONG. Now that being said I get it. It is their first reaction and none of them have a clue this song is one chapter of a 26 chapter story. One thing everyone did say was that this song stuck an emotional nerve. It has been striking that nerve in me since 1979 when I first hear this song. It still gets me emotional 43 years later.
Mother did it need to be so high.... The wall she helped him build. Over protective parent. See the lyrics, "she won't let you fly, but she "might" let you sing. Their songs are so Deep. This was during the war (WWII).
Hi Empress! “The Wall” was a concept album that bassist and singer Roger Waters wrote about feeling mentally isolated from his family and Pink Floyd’s audience. They only did a small handful of shows performing the whole album (the version you watched is from that) and by the end they built a giant physical wall in front of the stage. I forget the exact size, but I think it was over 30ft tall and 90 feet wide. Roger sings the part of the son and guitarist David Gilmour sings the part of the overbearing mother. You should absolutely listen to the full album at some point!
The Wall was in fact the story of the life of Roger Waters himself, a life full of problems. The Wall is a masterpiece but a very dark story of a depressed hurt person with a lot of issues in his life. After the split of Pink Floyd, after the Final Cut, the music of PF changed, the lyrics were not dark anymore.
the wall this whole album is about how he builds an emotional wall to protect himself for being hurt by other people and in the end his music gives him strength enough to finally break down the wall
I'm glad a live version was chosen. Because the trap is, that reactors wind up reacting to the video and not the song. The song's are the masterpieces, the videos are just somebody's whim.
This song was a part of The Wall' album. It was a concept album, all the songs are inter-related. This song 'Mother' was about an overprotective mother who helps build a massive wall between the singer and society. The last line, 'Why did it have to be so high?'' was referring to the size of the wall he built, keeping everyone out and not letting anyone in. I hope this helps. Love Your reactions! Ok, just finished watching the video 😂 Sory for restating what you already figured out on your own! If you haven't done it already, please listen to the rest of 'The Wall.' II think you'd really enjoy it!
The only band that hasn't made a second of bad music ever. Start to finish it's all either beautiful (mostly), wildy experimental, epic groundbreaking and influencial, or just weird, witty and charming. But never bad.
Absolutely loved your reaction. I think you can tell alot about a person you don't know by watching them watch a video, and I'm pretty sure you are a very good person.
Awesome Empress you got it right... that is exactly what that last line meant and what the song is about! GREAT JOB ! too many don't listen and get that!
I absolutely love how you feel every note of a song. You feel the emotion of the song flow through you. I’m extremely jealous. I only get to this level on occasion.
Definitely a song about an over-protective mother - you nailed it! Your next PF reaction should be to "Run Like Hell" from the 1994 Pulse concert! Cheers,
Look how young they look! I believe this song was released in 1979 or 1980? Even though they had been together for about 15 years when they released this, their musical abilities continued to improve over the years. Great reaction. Happy New Year 🎄🎁
pink floyed is one of my all time favorite bands. not only do their words have deep meanings but you can meditate to their melodies. they always have some awesome intros. i got addicted to them when my older sister would play them on an 8 track when i wasn't even a teenager yet and didn't really have a full appreciation for music yet. to understand some of their songs from the wall though you really have to watch the movie. it's a little long for my taste but filled with beautiful music. mother is one of those songs i would play over and over again. i was always drawn to it... i didn't have an over controlling mother but i never really felt free with all the rules and still felt trapped. you will hear people argue about how this song means this and how this song means that....and they are all right and also wrong at the same time. it's not about any one thing. great songs will have different meanings along the same deep theme that people don't notice when only focusing on one meaning.
La vera Musica entra prima nel Cuore poi in Testa, questa Musica si chiama Pink Floyd.. True Music enters first in the Heart then in the Head, this Music is called Pink Floyd..
Wow Empress! I hope you had a fabulous Christmas and so amazing to see you reacting to this fantastic song! Thank you as always for making my evening always better! Missed you! And you will be an amazing and great mom one day Empress!
the song is about having an over protective mother and the damage it dose. Mother's goign to make all of your nightmares come true, mothers going to put all of her fears into you... in the story of the Wall. Pink lost his father in the war, his mother was over protective which lead to him having intimacy issues, e.g. " the wall" , the wall his mother help built separated him emotionally from others. he asked "Did it need to be so high?" as these issues lead to the loss of his wife etc.
The Wall is a huge double album with songs that are designed to be listened to in order, as it tells a story of a boy with an overprotective mother and what happens to him as an adult. It’s incredible.
Spot On PERFECTION !! I told that to my brother when Dark Side of the Moon came out about 40 some years ago! Seen them many times Live still the best concert(s) I've seen, Yep Mothers are amazing I sure miss mine, Great Breakdown gonna have to check out your other PF reactions Keep it Neat ✌out
You need to check out the entire Movie, Pink Floyd's "The Wall" to get the entire concept of the story. In 2019 I went to watch the Lazer Show and they didn't play this. I was so bummed. 😭 Happy belated 4/20+ 😁😎
I'm continually amazed at how many people listen to this song and conclude rhapsodizing about the beauty of a mother's protection & love, almost makes me wonder what song they're hearing. I get music, and art in general, are often open to interpretation, but there's zero ambiguity here in Waters' words.
The Concept story are built around singer/bass player Roger Waters who lost his father during WWII and felt loss and isolation and also around original singer Syd Barrett who had lost of problems with psychedelic drugs. Some said he also had a mental ilness but it was denied by his family. He left music in 1972 and lived a secluded private life painting and taking care of his garden. Died in 2006 by pancreatic cancer. Only sang on the first 2 Pink Floyd albums
Mother, was one of the songs i immidiately got in my heart when i got the album in 1980. It's been a favourite ever since. In later years i understood more about the song and that it is a song about Waters relation to his mother. At the same time many men can relate to our relation to our own mother's i think. I love this song, and the live version here is really nice, but not like the original. So very emotional. Thanks Roger Waters, you are a important storyteller to so many. Thanks.
@EMPRESS JOY-JEAN.Your description of Pink Floyd around the four-minute mark is so insightful. That's always been my interpretation of the band. Btw, my interpretation of "mother did it need to be so high" is did it need to be so intense? I love your reactions, they are so from the heart.
Its all the Wall album theam again ...its a good album ;-) They did one more after the Wall called The Final Cut then Roger Walters left and the band did an incredible album called the Delicate Sound of Thunder and Dave Gilmore was then their lead singer. Some of the tracks from Delicate Sounds are incredible to. I was about 3 or 4 when I herd a track by Floyd on the radio ..... It was See Emily Play I loved them from that day on. Emily Play was when they came into main stream from the underground clubs and though it was a deliberately commercial track it was also mind blowing for me lol. After that one I was 100% hocked ;-) . The only one I couldn't get in to was Obscured By Clouds .... only like a couple of tracks from that but then came their best stuff lol lol lol. I loved Atom Heart Mother, initially cos of the cows on the cover but soon as I played it... then Meddle which you need to listen to, (I not looked to see if its on UA-cam) cos Echoes is seriously long but also haunting, soul lifting and beautiful ;-)
Yes you got it, The wall, was a great album you should listen to it from the beginning to end non stop. Then you will continue to understand, "did it need to be so high?"
If you listen to the song from within the full emotional framework that the album The Wall creates this song is painful and that much more heart-wrenching.
Hi. As always, every body will have there own interpretations of this . I have listen to this album for 30 years and at different stages of my life, the songs can have different meanings. I'm not a huge pink floyd fan, but this album is priceless
Love the movie and have seen Roger perform The Wall live twice. This song itself as beautiful as it is .. is very dark. His mom broke him and made it impossible to have healthy relationships. " mother's going to make all of your nightmares come true mother's going to put all of her fears into you"
This is the best version of Mother due to the expressive guitare solo of Gilmour. On the other hand, The lyrics of Waters are genius....so Roger sings this song with more emotionality and agressivity because he was who wrote the song...
I've gone back and forth between Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd as to who was the greatest band of all time, but I'm going with Floyd. As you mentioned, I've never heard a bad Pink Floyd song.
"Mother did it need to be so high?" is referring to the metaphorical wall his mother, through her overprotectiveness helped him build around himself.
She said that at the end
That movie is DEEP. Iam 54 and love Floyd!!
The wall takes on so many meanings through the album.
Makes total sense to me know... always wondered what it was in reference too, so obvious now
@Dave Smith Or when he killed himself?
"Dark Side Of The Moon" "Wish You Were Here" & "The Wall" all contain heart wrenching moments during the story. That is life, all the pain, the sorrow along with the joy & laughter. One of the reasons I & many others love Pink Floyd. You too I feel.
You forget the album "the final cut".
Gilmour knows what notes to hit.. His solos are like no body else's. .. 🎶🎶💯💯❤️
This is so incredibly lovely to see a young person like you to enjoy Floyd so much and get so emotional and connected to their music. Theirs is timeless, beautiful music. Fantastic reaction Empress. Loved this!

Watch 'The Wall', it's clear. :P Or just listen to the whole album.
Mother did it need to be so high.... The wall she helped him build. Over protective parent. See the lyrics, "she won't let you fly, but she "might" let you sing. Their songs are so Deep. This was during the war (WWII).

🤩ONE DOESN'T MERELY LISTEN TO PINK FLOYD, ONE EXPERIENCES THEM!🤩
and you can't have any pudding ...
@@DiskTuna If you don't eat your meat, how can you have any pudding 😎
"...brings you from whatever mood you were in and then puts you in that Pink Floyd mood."
That is kind of brilliantly stated.
Merry Christmas from Canada🌲🎄🌲🇨🇦😍😍😍😍😍😍

The Wall is a masterpiece but a very dark story of a depressed hurt person with a lot of issues in his life. After the split of Pink Floyd, after the Final Cut, the music of PF changed, the lyrics were not dark anymore.
It's actually an amalgamation of Roger Waters and Syd Barrett's lives.
Want to know what's sad? That someone blind cannot see the angel I see. Thank for being a true Blessing!
Thank you Jeff 😊
the wall this whole album is about how he builds an emotional wall to protect himself for being hurt by other people and in the end his music gives him strength enough to finally break down the wall
❤
Empress, I just LOVE you, and I just love your reaction videos.
I just wanted you to know that. ❤❤
WOW! I think you really hit the nail on the head. Great reaction.
I'm glad a live version was chosen. Because the trap is, that reactors wind up reacting to the video and not the song. The song's are the masterpieces, the videos are just somebody's whim.

Idc how many times ive heard this song. I get chills every single time. Pretty much with most of their music. Geniuses they are.
In my opinion this is the best sounding version of Mother. I’m glad someone actually done a reaction video with this version. 👍
This is one of the best albums ever.
Great reaction by a wonderful soul. Thank you again.
Sitting here weeping along with you.
I really enjoy your reactions!! You are such a kind heart!
Awesome Empress you got it right... that is exactly what that last line meant and what the song is about! GREAT JOB ! too many don't listen and get that!
That's the effect of Pink Floyd's concept albums.
They make us release those emotions that we think we don't have.
Finally a reaction vid that caught the meaning of "mother."
I absolutely love how you feel every note of a song. You feel the emotion of the song flow through you. I’m extremely jealous. I only get to this level on occasion.
Artists at the top of their game !
I absolutely love your energy.. you are beautiful
Definitely a song about an over-protective mother - you nailed it! Your next PF reaction should be to "Run Like Hell" from the 1994 Pulse concert! Cheers,
this! that version is fire!
That version is in in the Guinness book of records
Look how young they look! I believe this song was released in 1979 or 1980? Even though they had been together for about 15 years when they released this, their musical abilities continued to improve over the years. Great reaction. Happy New Year 🎄🎁

Joy -Jean, you'll make a beautiful mother.. xxx

I love how she was emotional the whole song but it was the guitar solo that almost made her cry 🙂
Please watch the movie The wall. It’s absolutely incredible.♥️
Wow Empress! I hope you had a fabulous Christmas and so amazing to see you reacting to this fantastic song! Thank you as always for making my evening always better! Missed you! And you will be an amazing and great mom one day Empress!

Im crying to and i love it ❤️
Cool, I love Pink floyd too. Music for the ages. Thank you for your reaction.
It’s just stupid how good Pink Floyd is I mean what planet are these creatures from
Very lovely lady you are and I love your reaction.
You can never go wrong with Pink Floyd. So nice to see your smiling face back reacting to videos.
This is about Roger Water's childhood. Losing his Father to the war & being raised solely by his Mother during the 40's & 50's.
It's an emotional song. That's for sure.
Did what need to be so high? The wall! Mama’s going to help build the wall ( around him )
Love your comments. Pink Floyd is the best. The Lyrics, The music.

Una vez más gilmour realizando y dando una atmósfera diferente a la melodia con sus solos de guitarra
Beautifull ballad from Pink Floyd, indeed.
❤you too!💋
You are right. It's the wall 🧱 she put around him...but that's ❤️
I absolutely love your reactions to Pink Floyd...Keep them coming !
"Mother did it need to be so high?" I think Roger Waters talks about the height of the wall itself...
The Wall. She didn't let her child spread his wings!!!
Did the wall need to be so high. I tear up every time I hear this sing. Makes me miss my mother!!

In 2019 I went to watch the Lazer Show and they didn't play this. I was so bummed. 😭
Happy belated 4/20+ 😁😎
What was "so high" is the 'wall' he built around his emotions.
I enjoyed your reaction thanks for sharing
They get you everytime!!!
Mother id it need to be so high is the greatest last line in Rock history . " THE WALL" .
I'm continually amazed at how many people listen to this song and conclude rhapsodizing about the beauty of a mother's protection & love, almost makes me wonder what song they're hearing. yes so true, if you cannot feel this song you do not have soul.

One does not talk when the gods are playing their songs. AND ONE DOESN'T INTERRUPT THEM AT ALL!
Mother is also ‘The State’. many many levels.
We all have walls. Nobody really ever knows us do they. not everything.
Eres una persona especial ❤️
Look, Mommy. There’s an aeroplane up in the sky.
Mmm...Hmmm...mmm...D d d did you see the frightened ones?
So high. The wall. Protecting him.
You've got such a Beautiful Heart lovely woman!!!
Love the movie and have seen Roger perform The Wall live twice.
