The way you allow yourself to be touched by the music is beautiful. The world needs more honest, emotional empathy like you posses and share with us.
i agree
100% Refreshing
The real-life sadness in this piece is immeasurable. They lost their leader to mental illness at a time when mental illness was the kiss of death.
Admittedly, they didn’t know how to help Syd, so they turned inward and expressed their collective loss through music.
Well said sir
Brilliant way to put it my guy. Glad I get to hand out some positivity on the internet.
Syd Barrett’s problems were brought on from extreme excessive use of LSD
@@michaeldezego340, While Syd Barrett’s drug use didn’t help, it’s pretty much confirmed that he suffered from schizophrenia before any drug use happened.
@@alltruenews Is the news all true or just pretty much?
In my opinion, this is the greatest song intro of all time. Always gives me goosebumps.
Pink Floyd used to play this track to open their concerts as a tribute to Syd Barret
The song was written about Syd Barrett, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd. After their first album his behaviour became increasingly erratic due to a mixture of hallucinogenic drug intake and assumed mental illness (he was never actually diagnosed with anything at that point, but it was assumed he was ill), and he was effectively ejected from the band because it became impossible to work with him.
8 years after the release of their first album, they were recording ‘Shine On...’ when a bald, fat man entered the studio that they didn’t recognise. They carried on working for a while when one of them realised it was Syd, his appearance drastically changed. He had turned up out of the blue during the recording of the song they’d written about him. Strange but true.
actually later in life he was diagnosed with schizophrenia that had gone untreated for well over half his lifetime... which explains his musical genius and madness.
He wasn't 'effectively ejected from the band', but rather, he walked away one day, and didn't come back.
@@danthedobermann Not quite true. They drafted in David Gilmour as a second guitarist as Syd's playing became erratic and sometimes sporadic at live gigs. Soon they simply stopped picking him up and taking him to gigs so he was effectively out of the band.

@@jasoncdebussy I hope he was compensated throughout his life and lived safely.
RIP 🙏
It’s incredible how you can hear the pain in Gilmours guitar
But if Sid hadn't got sick there would be no Gilmour
That three note pattern after the intro......my god. 45 years and it still hits me in the chest.
David Gilmore, to this day, is my favorite guitar player. He has a way of saying so much with a few notes.
Yeah, I cried only the first 500 times I heard it.
This whole album is like that.
Don't try to figure anything out, just listen and enjoy the ride
That is almost exactly what I said to my friend before his first experience with orange sunshine! (40 years ago). Good times!
She said it.....noone can do it like Pink Floyd..........she is hooked like the rest of us............🙂
My father, a great symphonic music lover, played by the best orchestras in the world, came to my room one day to listen to this musical piece with me. Its final verdict, this band deserved its place with the greatest composers of all time. Coming from him, it was a huge compliment. Subsequently, I played him (Dark Side Of The Moon) in full. He particularly liked the last 4 songs of this album, from (Us And Them) to (Eclipse), plus of course, (The Great Gig In The Sky).
That’s truly great!
It took a LOT of courage and artistic integrity for these young artists (Gilmour was only 28 when recorded) to have songs with such long intros. PF is one of a kind.
One of my all time favorites of Pink Floyd for sure
dude i dont even need acid for tearing cries cause of how appreciating those switching colors on that leaf, it takes me back
Almost all the songs imaginary graphics are all connected across all albums …..that’s the amazing thing.
This was Pink Floyd at their best, I’ve heard this scores of times and I never get sick of it. It’s as fresh and wonderful the 100th time as the first.
Thank you for reaching to pink Floyd, you are like an Egyptian princess 💚
The most beautiful song ever!
Pink Floyd can take you on a trip without ever leaving your seat.
We love you Syd Barrett...R.I.P. crazy diamond....
For your info: The intro you proclaimed as a guitar solo was Richard Wright on keyboard, followed by the guitar of David Gilmour.
I can feel your emotion when listening to this. Pure beauty of a song
Once again dear lady your reaction was worth a million words. Music can take us away to places within our souls we otherwise might not know we even have. God bless you
floyd makes people fly , happy and go through all ranges of humans emotions, best band ever above all , the music at its best
It’s so perfect that you used the word ‘ hypnotising’ to describe the music. I would like to use the same word to describe watching your reactions..
Thank you so much for your pure spirit ❤️
I can only imagine what it must have felt like listening to this in the mid 70s 😯
I love the way you really "feel" Pink Floyds music! Your many facial expressions convey quite clearly the emotions running through your body, it's like a window into your soul. Pink Floyd has a way of doing that to people. Very nice reaction!
A song written for Syd Barret , they used to play this song to open their concerts as a tribute to him. I've seen them live, indecently, as they were recording this in the studio Syd Barrett walked in after not seeing him for 7 yrs , they didn't recognize him .
A song for Sid Barrett, a member of Pink Floyd who overdosed on hallucination drugs, and later died. Sid was the shining diamond, an exceptional musician, and lead member of the group, taken in his prime. Shine on, Sid.
Can’t “overdose” on hallucinogens! No one is sure if the LSD caused his mental conditions, or if they were pre-existent!
@@MikeB12800 I didn't say what he died from, I only said that drugs messed him up, and that he later died.
I didn’t say anything about you saying anything about his death. I said you can’t OD on hallucinogens
Sid lived for anther 32 years and died at his h9megetit right
"Wish you were here" was the first CD I ever bought.
right on
@bdplmr9559 Not first copy, first CD.
You're always beautiful. Pink Floyd stand out from everyone else for their truly unique style
I don't fear how to listen to this music and name it by Syd Barrett, a great tribute from the band, every time I listen it makes me cry because all the history behind the song.
Watching various people of all genders, ages and races from around the world listen to and react to Pink Floyd brings me to tears and makes me remember when I first heard them doing these classic songs back in the day when they were making this amazing music. Her reaction is priceless. 😊 Pink Floyd, the official music of all space travel, on earth and in the heavens and forever and ever. 🎸
This is probably my favorite Pink Floyd song. There are several great videos of them performing this live on UA-cam. Empress, as always, I love your reaction. I’m glad the internet has allowed me to see someone who lives on the other side of the world enjoying the music I love. Thank you!
I love David Gilmour's masterful guitar playing.
How could you not love and adore this song? Love that you reacted so perfectly to the music and not just the words.
Impressed that you got it from the START. You obviously felt it. One of the greatest pieces of music ever.
Loved watching your first experience with this masterpiece. This really got to you! "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" is a nine-part Pink Floyd composition written by David Gilmour, Roger Waters, and Richard Wright. It appeared on Pink Floyd's 1975 concept album Wish You Were Here. The song is written about and dedicated to Syd Barrett, who left the band in 1968 due to deteriorating mental health.
I absolutely ADORE all your Floyd reactions!! Your face, eyes and expression relay EVERYTHING that this band is about and I consider you I walking poster child for why everyone needs to experience this incredible band.. KEEP THEM COMING!!
Yes,Pink Floyd is more a feeling type of music... You are feeling what millions of people throughout the world feel with every song my dear!!!
This great song is in honor of Syd Barrett, one of the founders of Pink Floyd!
Ps. Thank you for taking the time to listen and appreciate and sharing your experience with is. It brings back my experiences and emotions of hearing these timeless works of art and sound again. Keep up the appreciated reactions.
The absolutely perfect Reaction of my absolutely favourite Song! Thanx!👌
I've heard it for over 42 years.
Ooooohhhhhhhhhh yes! My favorite Pink Floyd song. I love how his songs are slow Burns but so powerful.
that synth sound you hear flowing and changing is wine glasses (wine glass organ) with different levels of liquid in each to make a certain note, they fed it through the mixing desk and used the faders to make chords, quite impressive
Long time Pink Floyd fan.I must say that you are such a beautiful soulful person.Wish their were women in U.S.like you.I cannot find one.
Floyd's musical expressions were created, crafted and delivered for those who really feel and absorb the experience. Yes,people like you Empress. Keep shining you true diamond ❤️
Some reactions are simply better than others , and of many different people doing these reaction videos. , i can honestly say from my heart that you're one of my favorite doing these reactions . 😍🤩🥰😇💞💯
One of best saxophone solos ever!
The most epic masterpiece of music ever created, and the beauty of your soul and exterior makes it even more divine❤🧡💛
Yes you Beautiful woman, Pink Floyd is an experience of a lifetime!
This masterpiece, like most of their pieces, is dripping in African American Blues and Jazz influence. Great review Empress.

Pink Floyd songs are an experience.
Great remarks and memories of Syd Barrett..The band members always made sure he was paid royalties he was owed .
After Syd left, the band changed direction .
Syd waa only 60 years old when hr died .
Wrote some great songs when he was with the band ..
Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett will live on forver .
Shine On You Crazy Diamond is a song about Sid Barret a founding member of the group who unfortunately flew to close to the sun and couldn't find his way home!
Arguably their greatest song. So good.
I've heard this song a million times but your reaction is the first time I got emotional about it
Pink Floyd is masterful at making you feel the music - for another emotional listen try Ravel's Bolero...as long a version as you can find and use headphones, volume up
Makes me cry every time !
You definitely got the Floyd vibe glad you enjoyed it 👍
Not just a song but an experience
I cried every time i heard it 😭
best sax solo i have heard
this was the way I heard & absorbed a lot of Pink Floyds music, watched by the equally amazed faces of my family & friends, feeling every note every emotion it portrayed
Your passion and smile go thru me like the Sun ... warm and beautiful.
It's crazy isn't it its like heaven
Your heart is beating so fast because Pink Floyd plays directly to your soul. 😊🌹
This was their best album. Period.
Music for the soul. If raindrops were tears.....
Watching is like hearing it for first time again
The first part was a synthesizer and guitar. Magnificent!!
For the original 1975 recording they used a "glass harp", a set of wine glasses with each glass tuned to a different frequency (note). The glasses are played by several people running moistened fingers around the rims. David Gilmour used the glass harp in several live shows.
Watching you react to the music I grew up with is so enchanting, it means a lot to me, and you are just so touched by it and it just makes me feel so happy for you 🥲🥲
Syd Barret vanished for many years and no one knew what had become of him, and Pink Floyd wrote this some about him and scary thing is when they were recording this song about him .... he just appeared at the studio ... out of the blue.
What a damn song!!!!
esp. the sax at the end awesome love the Floyd
I adore you. You are commenting on music from my youth in the 70's, and I lived in a communist country and it was very difficult to add such recordings. Thank you very much for your activity. Greetings from Poland. Kisses!
Thank you for bringing this music to life. Your expression is beautiful
This lady gets it
I always said it was their best song ever!
I first heard this song over 30 years ago. To see it effect you in such a way is an amazing experience as even now it still moves me to tears. I'm glad you discovered this....
Empress you are a diamond. Shine on.
joy jean you are one very pretty lady with great taste in music...rock on !
I had a similar reaction when I first heard this beautiful song about 45 years ago and I was already a fervent Pink Floyd fan. I am currently 70 years old and I still listen to and love Pink Floyd.
Id love to see you take the musical journey that is Echoes by Pink Floyd.
Peace Empress! You are so beautiful!
Pink Floyd has two of the most beautiful songs of all time - this and The Great Gig in the Sky.
I had always thought that THE WALL album was about Syd and his dilemma.
Empress, you have the most beautiful expressive face.
You are so genuine, emotional, its a pleasure to watch you get in to bands and music we all love
xx
It turns out that there are Diamonds in Nigeria! You are the most priceless one discovered. 😹
Come on you Piper ….
if you hadn’t already got it - imagine the first time. watching you is like me.
Of course Syd Barrett. RIP
Pink Floyd never made music for the radio, which is why they have so many "long" songs. And yet, the radio found there way to playing their songs because they were just so damned good. No radio edits - they had a 10 minute song, you heard a 10 minute song the radio. Nobody would dare edit a Pink Floyd song.
There is still the other half of the song to hear, it's called parts 6-9 on the album
OMG - watching you react to this made me feel like the first time I heard it - thank you xxx
And of course - when you know the backstory it makes it even more meaningful and emotive
Empress...you got to see and hear..Pink Floyd..(Live-concert..)
By 13:15 in your reaction video (end of the sax solo), I'd swear you'd want more, and so do I. You're a shining ambassador of Pink Floyd music, kudos to U 😘
Thank you , its fun to know whats coming and see how you react
Girl, you don't need words cuz you so get it!😃 of course we love your words of loving encouragement😁 may I suggest Yes: Roundabout? Great instruments 😉 and the singing......
This song, like most Pink Floyd song, is like a movie score. The music (and few lyrics) guides you through your own life's experiences and the movie occurs in your head. So close your eyes and listen, it's for you alone!
I said it once and I'll say it again. This is one of my favorite bands from the beginning to forever.
ive said it before lol my son lives literally 200 m from Dave Gilmour lol . He has no interest in music has no idea who he is , but when i go to visit him even at 60 y o i sit on the beach at Brirghton ( becacause thats where it is ) an djust just soak it up.i have sit outside his house just hoping
@@johnp5351 Truly relate.
Pink Floyds Masterpiece!!! Just amazing!!
