Stunning, just looks amazing. I love the fact the panelling and Linda are of an age. When the window opens again it might be worth reminding someone that it will be easy to chuck things into the canal.
That looks fantastic! And I love the way you go about those projects with ‘temporary’ solutions and so work your way through your space limitations. And all the clever use of recycle material. Thanks for another great video. Brilliant! Like Shakespeare's Globe Theatre, where the wooden ceiling resonated with the echoes of timeless tales, Canice's barge boasts a church wood canopy worthy of the reverence and awe one might experience upon hearing the “pew pew pew” of fireworks overhead on Guy Fakes Night! Simply breathtaking!

Hi Canice and good morning. Sooo glad you had enough panels, you have clearly worked very hard and you’ve done a phenomenal job of your ceiling and we love it lots! Lovely to see the Sea Captain back and tell him, Georgie said “Just turn the portholes round to open out”! 🤣😂 A pleasure as always, take care Joe & Georgie 🌹⚓️❤️
Hi Joe, hope you cleared the weeds! I’ve just thought about the engineering required to turn the porthole around! What a video that would be! It’s just a bit of carpentry. I knew it would happen when I welded the porthole in… the measurements didn’t lie!🙄😭😂😂😂
🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂 that sure would be! As for the weeds, and thank you for asking, it soon became apparent, when the weed hatch was clear, that it was hopefully the impeller……. Nope! A new CW404 Jabsco is on order!!!!🤬🤬🤐🤐 not cheap as you know and I won’t mention the marina!! Best wishes and speak soon ❤️🌹⚓️
Good morning Canice, what a great idea to do your ceiling like this. Nice detail. We had a good laugh at the ending. It's good that you don't see any problems easily. 😄❤️
A lot of work but a real transformation and adds real character to the beauty. LOOKING MUCH BETTER NOW. Eventually when all the refines are complete, she'll be a right gem.
Canice, it looks as though the sea captain has the last laugh. The paneling is looking great, keep up with the good work. Look forward to the coming videos.
You are doing an amazing job on Linda. It is such a transformation. I so look forward to your vlogs every Sunday morning. Thanks for sharing your journey.
Looking absolutely beautiful. It really opens up the whole space, making it seem much bigger doesn’t it🙂👍🏽 It will look absolutely amazing when it’s all brass screws, shipshape and Bristol fashion - simply wonderful 🙂 I look forward to seeing how you decide to solve the porthole “situation”. Thank you so much for sharing this with me. Take care and stay warm. Big hugs. 🙂🐿🌈❤️ [sydney australia]
The space has come alive and it’s turned out to be much better than I expected. The port hole situation was solved a long time ago, as I knew this would be a problem when I was welding the portholes in! The solution will be fun……😀
what a wonderful eccentric home this is going to be. where I was brought up in Somerset, the village hall had a ceiling like this. Everyone loved it. Im sure you'll get round the scuttle issue, the captain is a feckin eejit too! Have a good week.
Well done, Canice! I'm sure with some [alot] of sanding and cleaning those panels could look amazing, it suits linda well, the sea captain is just a scallywag he doesn't see the opportunity for features, an arched section formed in the ceiling with thin ply would look great, just like you see in some vaulting ceiling brickwork to allow doors to swing! It's great to see some panelling fitted. It really makes a difference. Keep on succeeding shipmate! See ya next week.
Hi Simon! This was very pleasing to see it turn out so well! I knew there would be a problem when I welded the portholes in and as you say the solution is not complicated… Now you know why I have lots of sheets of copper hidden away.😀
Looks amazing, Canice! Not a chance of it being chance... it's a MIRACLE! It's also not warm enough to open windows just yet and we know you'll have come up with a plan by then... so there, Captain... (runs off, slightly scared of the Captain). 😅
Cracking job mate, I love using reclaim materials myself, and it goes to show, how much better it is, when you get a result like that. Brake out the sander lol much love as always Alex and Maria
I’ve experimented with a bit of sanding and I’ll need to get some very fine sandpaper to clean them up. (Which I don’t have at the moment). I don’t want to lose the aged patina…
Nice result! Beyond expectation and with divine guidance. I always thought that the ports had to open from below. You secure them in open position with a small hook at the ceiling. Once you put wax on the panels it will be impossible to lacquer them, but...lacquering above your head is a crime anyway. Beeswax you can dilute with turpentine and spray it in a cheap pressure sprayer. Don't smoke!
What! The whole point is to make it into a gentleman’s smoking room! 🤣 I remember you saying that about the orientation of the window. When I welded them in, I measured the space and knew it was too tight for the porthole of that size. Only on that one and its opposite number. However, opening it upwards would require a huge chunk taken out of the ceiling to accommodate the window opening. Whereas opening to the side requires less butchery. The massive porthole and storm cover does open upwards as that’s the best solution there. And the little oval portholes next down the line are also opening upwards…. On another point you are right about the fuel pump being the cause of my startups being rough. I’m now noticing the governor is taking its time to respond to command. It looks like I’ll have to replace the boost diaphragm which is probably failing again. I didn’t expect it to fail as it was replaced 3 and a half years ago….🙄
@@canicebannon It is simple to test, just buy a cheap Chinese fuel lift pump for about €9,- and put it inline before the regular fuel lift pump. After the starting procedure you can stop the electric pump, the regular pump sucks just through the electric one. Also, very convenient to get the air out the system after changing filters. A fuel lift pump diaphragm should last for decades, but the modern bio-enhanced diesel fuel leaves a tar-like brown substance everywhere even after one season. (use GTL!) So in the original lift pump are two little filters, you should clean them too. It is good practice to instal a vacuum meter to control whether the lift pump can get enough fuel passed the fuel filter. Of course, it is also possible that you are talking about the vacuum controlled CAV high pressure fuel pump. A new diaphragm for that one will set you back around €50,- It sure should last longer than 3 years! There are two vacuum pipes between the regulator and the inlet. A small leak there can also result in a lot of problems. When you are there...fill the oil sump of the high-pressure pump...without oil it will deteriorate.
Well, phew! 'Cuz I really, REALLY love the paneled overhead. I also love your dinette table, unless it isn't big enough. It was brilliant to have Sea Captain point out the porthole problem because who else would feel the joy of it? Didn't realize how much I miss the old bastard. My compliments to your haircut. Thinking about doing the same.@@canicebannon
@@canicebannon PS: If you can get more old panels, they'd make great partitions! You could have oak overhead and white enamel walls, or vice-versa, if you're traditional-like.
Hi Canice - if you have to work with the fireproof insulation material again, you may want to use a mask. I am not sure how good the dust will be for your respiratory system! Linda is looking very up together these days...
As always very interesting. Plus the recycling of "older wood", used in a practical sense is much inspiring. Could the same be applied to your (or any) narrow boat ? A lot of "Planning & Preparation" involved in what you do and not forgetting the learn by "doing" as is your modus operandi. Thank you once again.
well done and it looks great and look at all the space you have created? I remain very impressed! Cheers, now for the bed space and your splash-proof shower space? Will you be fitting a surround- sound system, disco lights and an ozone (smell) generator? 🤣😂🤣
The Chruch of Canice looks nice!! The Captian... Such a small minded man... There is always a way with St. Canice! Lovely and so nice to have that wood above. What are your thoughts on the stained glass? Will it be a scene type, random or do you know someone who dabbles in the art? I tried that ages ago but never got far enough into it. Too many other things going on.
Brilliant job…. You can either cut the lug down on the port hole or create a “ relief “ in the oak panel and perhaps use a bit of that copper hot water cylinder to embellish the cut out. Sort of making a feature out a feck up. You might want to invest in one of those dewalt cordless drill drivers things . You know the ones that rattle the screws in. They are rather good. Much better than that little one you’ve got . You css as n buy then quiet reasonably as a tool only . Other brands are available depending on your chosen battery brand
Well spotted! That’s what the copper is for! Cut out a little bit of the wood and copper the whole lot! I use my dewalt drill to drill the screws in, the little Bosch drill is 12v and is handy for easy tasks. However, the biggest problem I have is wrenching the heads off the screw if I’m not careful. They’re stainless steel and they’re quite brittle… I’ll have a look at what you’re suggesting I’m not aware of it…..😀
Hi Kevin, like most things I’ll leave it and move on to other things and come back to it. I would like to give them a light sanding to remove the marks left on them by the brackets of the pews. I’m not a massive fan of varnish, but only because I haven’t used it much in my life.
Zounds, It doth looke well nigh unto a miracle. Maybe some of my ancestors, whose peasant bottoms may have occasionally graced what is now your ceiling, were smiling down upon you and decided to make this happen. All it needs is some decorative knee brackets in the corners where they won't get in the way.
