Welcome To the channel. Join me on my journey with my Dutch Barge De Vrouwe Linda. At over 100 years old it is in need of a full boat restoration. As a rolling restoration it has to function as a Tiny Home and needs to be Off Grid. What could go wrong?
It’s a Sailing Boat designed for Canal, River and Coastal Sailing. I have a keen interest in Nature and the Environment and the boat has to reflect this. It will need to be Solar Powered and the ultimate goal is to have Electric and Wind Power Propulsion only. So expect a mix of Old Crafts, Engineering and New Technologies. I also own and live on a Narrow Boat.

A beautifully created video Canice, really miss your Linda videos so much looking forward to seeing you soon. ❣🙏 sending hugs
Terrifying video! Worth the trouble though I can imagine. Next time I would use a wooden slat of some sort to use as a ruler when plasma cutting
Just catching up 👍🏻 wow 🤩 making progress at warp speed. Really looking forward to you getting another one and doing it again for series 2 🤣👍🏻
I miss your video’s all ok there?
Anyone taken a Dutch barge round the lizard cornwall?
Loving this series! Jealous I didn’t spend lockdown restoring a tjalk 😮
Just found your channel. I have only watched a couple videos but im already a fan, thanks for sharing your journey which such humor! Greetings from the Netherlands
It's also not great to leave your mast down from a technical point of view, because raindrops will collect on the 'bottom' when it's horizontal and 'eat up' the varnish and water will get into the mast.
Absolutely brilliant conditions! Reminds me of my first big sailing race. I had to give it all and was absolutely knackered after 4 hours on the Kagerplassen. Nothing beats this.
Kudos for those incredible drone shots with the mist, sunrise and the geese!
Thanks Canice, great video again! Following you since last year doing the strontrace. Maybe next year you will join a beurtveer ship and make another great documentary? FYI on Thursday morning also Beurtveer ships came sailing back. Thanks for capturing us! 😃
I do love the fact that we in The Netherlands have managed to preserve so much of our maritime heritage. The amount of historic live-aboards i run into on a daily basis, people like in the Open Air Museum bringing these fishing boats back from the dead, brilliant events such as the Strontrace, SKS... Currently I'm working on rebuilding a lelieschouw: another historic type designed especially for the Dutch Sea Scouts. The first ten were built out of wood, still two or three remain, the other 80 have been built out of steel.
I've heard of shit=faced sailors, but the Dutch take it to a whole other collective level. Love your travels to the Nederlands. Thank you Canice.
Pony!? What pony? More likely that wife and children pulled the boats
Canice, you have done it again. Now I could be talking about making another amazing video, or that you jinxed the fisherman's luck. You decide! Either way thank you for this wonderful depiction of how we should live life to the full.
Can't believe you're at this point, so not sure how you feel: I'm guessing tired? Always great to vicariously rebuild a boat.
Hi Dominic. The work on the boat and videos showing the work will resume in the new year. Don’t fear. I’ll be back.
Question: how does a narrowboat travel from one "canal" to another ? On the map they don't seem all connected - or maybe I am just naive . Hope you can help.
Hi Barrington, where the canals are not connected a narrowboat can be lifted out and transported by road. I have your email and will respond soon.
@@canicebannon Thank you for your prompt reply; very kind.
Are you not secretly of Dutch descent, Canice? Very good video about the traditional Dutch fleet.
I feel an affinity with the Dutch! One of my Brothers introduced me a few decades ago and I’ve been in love ever since… I also love Ireland and London. I get around!😂
@ 😂😂👍we love England as well and we get around too, we love Rome but anywhere in the world do have it’s own beautiful places. We also love London especially because of the tours you make with Linda, it gives a very unique perspective of London.
I really enjoyed this extra-long video with your great story about the Strontrace, Visserijdagen and Beurtveer and the building of the MK20 Jol. Really nice!
I glad you enjoyed the video! This one took a while to put together😅
You have some great friends from the Netherlands, Canice. Is there some kind of shop where I could get some? 🤔😂 What a fantastic hour long documentary you put together. Very professional and an interesting watch. Thanks.
Thank you RJ. I got those friends from UA-cam. They contacted me after watching the videos…😁
What a wonderful collaboration between craftsmen! Beautiful, always great to see my country through somebody else’s lense. Makes you appreciate more what you sometimes take a bit for granted. Warm greetings from the Netherlands🇳🇱!
Love the Netherlands! The resources available in the country for adventures on the water are amazing.
Excellent! That's one of life's experiences, thanks for sharing
Thank you for watching Peter!🤩
You blurring out the drill on the oarlock repairs is one of the many reasons I keep coming back ha
Hahaha! It was the first time I learned to pixelate! Glad you appreciated it.😂
Well done on your beard :) Another excellent video.
Hi Barrington, glad you enjoyed the video. the beard is temporary I’m afraid!🧔♂️🧔♂️🧔♂️
@@canicebannon You always show excellent videos, plus the tradition of dutch fishing. Very interesting.
Canice, your last video on the Dutch fishing expedition. It would be worthy of a team of professional film-makers. Excellent narration, great editing and cinematography, especially the drone shots. And I especially like your interest in your fellow-fishermen. You have a great knack of telling a story. Well done, Joe Flanagan
Thanks Joe for the great compliment… I was on a mission to try and use the drone more. I have a new editing suit which allows me way more options. Too many options, I have so much to learn….☺️
Welcome back! Well worth the wait. This was great. It was nice to see you run into old friends. Maik, Justus and Maren (hopefully spelling is right). The historic village was beautiful. Netherlands is definitely on my bucket list with the beautiful videos you have done, though I am not sure about going out on the fishing boat, not sure I could handle that. The filming/editing was great and, most of all, the relationships that you have established with the boating community there. Their tourist board should hire you!!! So glad you accepted a sponsorship. The Jackery looks like it will be very helpful working on Linda! Good work my friend! 🥇 😊🤗 Kathy
Beautiful wooden fishing boats. With dry bilges! Very interesting video. Makes me want to visit the Netherlands
This boat does not leak at all! It fills up with water with the rain instead! 😂
Absolutely beautiful video Cannice, loved it mate. Keep doing those Dutch historical docs, they need to be captured while the Dutchies still have the energy and dedication to keep those lovely vessels going.
Considering the history of the Netherlands in intrinsically linked to the water I’ve no doubt the energy will never wane. It is so beautiful to see the efforts to preserve the heritage is so strong. 💪
What an adventure.. great editing and processing. Canice the producer, director, actor.. fish?
This was the toughest video I’ve ever edited. At one point it was 2 hours long! I’m glad you enjoyed it! Happy Ballooning.
@@canicebannon You did a damned good job Canice! Truly a stellar production!
Good to see the capitain,he is back! ,I was worried.I love your channel, always a pleasure to see the life arround you! 💖
Sorry the videos have slowed down. I’m my Mothers full time caregiver at the moment and I’ve have to give up working. I will be back but not likely before Christmas… Glad you enjoyed the video!😁
Of course I am in school now and can’t watch till 5 pm tonight..just great… thanks Canice…lolololololol
Jackery made me publish earlier than I normally would have! Hahahaha!😂
@@canicebannon It was totally worth the wait!! Cheers!! Stay warm!
3 Canices (boxed), how interesting..... I also noticed Jackery have got around the hammering noises of power generation from 100 years ago, We recently bought a power station and panels, they are fantastic, ours being for a motorhome, but I can recommend anyone thinking about it, they really do work well. Great video, it looks like good fun, and the boats are lovely, almost Clog like
I love the Jackery! It really works well. I have a battery problem on Jorja and the Jackery is keeping the lights on!
9:20 CAN ICES Nice coincidence :)
I thought it was an amazing coincidence too! I love my Jackery. I’m glad you do too. I wouldn’t promote something that wasn’t relevant to the channel…
Nice movie about the Strontrace. I sail the Championships on skûtsjes on the Verwisseling. You should check out their videos, they also compete in the Strontrace but it is a whole different race on board the Verwisseling.
I’ve had a look and that’s pretty serious racing!🤩
I hope your week gets better ;)
Hahaha! We were not last…..😂
That was great! Really enjoyed watching this vlog. Thank you.
Thank you for watching it! Glad you enjoyed it💪😁
Hi Canice this makes a change from boat work , Good to see people enjoying the Day.
Hi Ramsey, unfortunately the boat work has taken a back seat for the moment. I’m caring for my Mum full time… I should be back in the new year.
Fabulous video Canice! I always enjoy these traditional activities...this, I'm sure is a tiny fleet compared to that which would have existed back in the early 1900s. The overhead shots made MK20 look the same shape as a Dutch clog! Great commentary too. When do you plan for Devrouwe Linda to enter this event? Keep up the good work...excellent!
There is clearly a link between these boats and the shoe!☺️😂
Wonderful, beautiful! Thank you sooo much Canice :-)
No! Thank you for watching.
Great film! Beurtveer next year? ;)
There is a plan in that regard..
@@canicebannon awesome!
What's not to like there? A tram, lots of sailing and messing around in boats. 06:49 --Am I famous yet? 😁 I really like the design of MK 20. It looks to me like a 17th century ship's boat, with its broad, rounded bow, and narrow stern. No pirates though. Okay, maybe by inference--the kind of pirate that inhabits Davie Jones' Locker and pulls nets to the sea floor. You-Know-Who would probably count that sort among his friends. This video must have taken hours to edit, but well worth it. Nice visuals, a story well told.
When I saw it I immediately thought of you. I was disappointed that they didn’t have a diesel generator powering the tram! 😂😂😂 Over the last month I’ve been my Mother’s full time caregiver and I’ve had to give up work. This does mean that this is the last video until the new year. Until then! Have a great Christmas!
@@canicebannon I wouldn't miss the diesel generator. I dislike them, but they are a necessary evil. I much prefer a trolley pole. I am now one of three motormen who know how to use them. Sorry to read that your mother needs full time care. It's something that a lot of us have had to experience, and I know it isn't easy. Take care and have yourself a good Yule. I will be raising a glass in your direction on New Years eve. Slainte!
Very picturesque does the village only date from the 40s superb interiors 🙌
They have stuff from centuries ago right up to the 1960’s. That was just a snapshot. Huuuuuge site! If you’re ever in the area, give it a look!
Absolutely love those wooden botters if that’s what they’re called kind of like the Galway hookers just great to look at and appreciate the skill that goes into building them and keeping them going
Stayed a night at Hindeloopen during the summer. Loved it. We almost cried when you had to cut the net🥹
I know. Another pile of plastic in the water. 🙄
Great video Canice. It was worth waiting a few weeks without my Sunday treat
Sorry about the delay. I’m caring full time for my Mother and there won’t be any videos until the new year at least…
@@canicebannon Your mother is more important. I’m caring for my mother for quite a while (part time)and it’s important. I hope she will be better soon.
6:19 note the pillar box on the back of the old tram
Oh my god! You could post a letter on your way to work… what a genius idea….🤩
Another wonderful film. Such beautiful boats.
Thank you Alistair. Glad you liked it!
I was just thinking about you!
Hi Cindi. I’m full time caring for my Mother and I’ve had to quit work as a result. There won’t be any more videos until the new year!
Thanks, Canice. Thoroughly enjoyed that!
My pleasure! As always!😁
