Welcome To the channel. Join me on my journey with my Dutch Barge De Vrouwe Linda. At over 100 years old it is in need of a full boat restoration. As a rolling restoration it has to function as a Tiny Home and needs to be Off Grid. What could go wrong?
It’s a Sailing Boat designed for Canal, River and Coastal Sailing. I have a keen interest in Nature and the Environment and the boat has to reflect this. It will need to be Solar Powered and the ultimate goal is to have Electric and Wind Power Propulsion only. So expect a mix of Old Crafts, Engineering and New Technologies. I also own and live on a Narrow Boat.

An inspired space, beautifully realised & crafted, sure the tray can always be replaced...
A white knuckle ride,! I loved this Vid
Thank you Robert!
This is the most impressive piece of work you've done on your boat. You can come and finish off my bathroom please. If you carry on like this your entire boat will be a work of art.
Hahaha! I’m hoping the inside will be beautiful in the end….
Thank you. Wonderful how you did your research and, managed to find your Dutch Barge "within" budget.
I was lucky to a degree!😁
This is beautiful and inspires future plans for our bathroom! Sadly it’s difficult to find a copper tank here in the US. If they exist they are usually scrapped almost immediately. Where did you purchase that shower valve? It could solve a distinct problem for me here in my 1950’s house with horrible plumbing.
I think I found it on EBay….
DANGER IF ANY ELECTRICS ARE PRESSENT IN THE SHOWER,THE COPPER MUST BE EARTHED.
Danger? It’s a 12 volt system….
Amazing :) shame about the tray. Maybe you can make another out of copper. Certainly would be cheaper than buying one.
That’s what I’m thinking!🤣
It looks incredible - but all I see is the pain of construction. I hope you feel satisfied as that's the only justification for all the work.
This nearly drove me to distraction! 😂 Especially when I realised how time consuming it was when I started and calculated how long it was going to take to finish it!
@@canicebannon just to reinforce, it looks incredible. Maybe glaze the bathroom so everyone gets to see it - or force people to pee? :)
My late father in law, a sheet metal worker, would probably say the line between genius and madness has been crossed (though I'm not sure in which direction). How on earth did you come up with that idea? Throughout I was wondering "How many tubes of this stuff has he used?" btw an alternative like product is OB1 (from Screwfix and others) I used it to stick powder coated L section aluminium to steel on the corner post of an extension (best the builder could come up with screwing it on somehow!). Also used the leftovers to make roofs for bird houses (powder coated aluminium to wood!). I thought that Bosch jigsaw was going to a rest home, by the time you've finished it will probably have earnt it! I suspect the last cylinder was a thermal store where the volume of the tank is filled with hot water from the CH boiler (therefore with corrosion inhibitor) and the cold supply passes through the coil collecting heat. As for the brass screws !!
I looked at OB1 but I couldn’t get a definitive statement about use with copper…. Most of these ideas are made up on the spot and I go “that’ll do”. Because I’m not a professional and I have nobody telling me otherwise I just do it because I feel like it! The jigsaw is the best. I always think of you’re generosity every time I use it… Barry’s Jigsaw. The thermal store make sense I suppose. The copper on that particular tank was also very thick by comparison to the others.
Beautiful copper work! Fits the barge perfectly.
Looks very nice when the sun shines on it!
That copper has come up nicely
I wasn’t too sure until it was all polished.
You are craftsman extraordinaire, so much patience but what a wonderful shower. But now the base I hope you can fix it.
Hi Helly! I’ll beat some more copper into shape!
It looks wonderful! Just make sure you don't catch verdigris.cheers from Bali.
I’m going to lacquer it at some point…. I’m going to leave it for a moment and see how it patinas before I use it… plenty of things to do in the meantime.😁
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo ARgghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, Come on, right at the end, NO, NO, NOPE.............yes😞
It was so difficult to make that shower. I laughed to myself when I saw the crack. I was a sight that the white shower tray was not ment to be. I’m going all in on the copper.
@@canicebannon at first I thought you were going to just put sheets up on each wall, but then, ahhhhhhh nice! its a real one off, and such a good idea, a fitting look for her.
I got real steam punk vibes...I think you should consider leaning into it as a look for the rest of the interior.
The idea is to use materials available from 1910…. Within reason…
Damn, all that work and the tray gives way. Copper is meant to have antiseptic or bacteria killing properties, will still need cleaning though. Have fun lol. Looks interesting though
I’m thinking a stiff scrubbing brush should keep it clean!😭
Absolute masterpiece Canice, belongs in the Tate!
It does look too good to use!😂
Amazing job Canice. You never cease to amaze me with your patience and craftmanship to detail
Hi Jan! It is the product of a strange mind….😂
Gorgeous!
Thank you Richard.
Holy Mackerel what an incredible job! And a super special look, wow
It glows in the sunshine!🌞
you can burn the wood :--)
It was all plywood and not great to burn. However, the main reason was, I needed the space more.
That looks fantastic … I was wondering what make or type of hole saw you use to drill the skin fitting holes . I need to drill a large hole through my steel hull and as the the boat is an hours drive away I need a hole saw that’s up to the job
I got mine from Screwfix. Mine are not great and wear out quickly. But if it’s fresh even a cheap one will do it once. Lots of oil, but you know that…
Wow. love it.... I suspect you will also do the tray in copper too now it has sustained damage.
Yep!
Fantastic job
Thank you!
Wow! .... just wow! The copper is lovely
Thank you so much!
Just stunning Canice, just stunning. I'd give my prostate for a shower like that. No, wait, I've already lost my prostate, it'll have to be something else.... I'll get back to you.
It's a magnificent copper grotto! congratulations!
Thank you sir!
It’s so beautiful that inside roofing… so much repetitive intensive work. You need the patience and dedication of a mediaeval or a Buddhist monk to make the cladding. Zen or the art of cladding a shower 😉. After so much meditation and concentration you must be on a next level.
I truly drove me mad. Lots of history pod casts got me through it!🤪
The copper looks beautiful. I would lacquer it now. I don't think you will like the greenish and matted surface of it, if you don't. The way it is now brings buckets of character to the shower room. Totally impressed (as usual) over all the work and love you put into making Linda a live aboard. Have a great week.
I agree I will lacquer it. Shiny is best!
Truely, as mentioned elsewhere, a work of art. You realise copper is one of the most electrically conductive material? Keep yourself grounded...
Ah, you are flying with creativity!
There’s only a 12v supply on the boat and each copper panel has so much sealant they’re probably insulated from each other…😂
What an ingenious use of old copper... what a genius, you are Canice! You also tell a good story through video... I gasped when you zoomed out to all those empty grey gunk containers... I gasped at the shiny copper all finished... and when water came out of the tap (yes... I gasped, which kind of surprised me. I mean, I've seen a tap AND water before)... then the humdinger cliffhanger of the broken shower tray! FFS! I guess you'll have to come up with some ingenious plan... again! Bravo. Very entertaining, as ever. 👏👏👏
Thank you so much for saying all this. I was as shocked by the amount of sealant I was going through! It feels solid though!😂😂😂😂
Certainly a labour love! I hope the showers performance meets your expectations. I'm sure you subscribers would have no hesitation in paying to have a go 😊 Not so sure about the Sea Captain though!
Hi Peter, if the shower isn’t as practical as I’d hope, I’m stubborn enough to live with the inconvenience!😂😂😂
oh no the shower pan?
Tell me about it!🙄
Jesus Christ Canice! This was a fantastic bit of craftsmanship and I hope you are proud of it. Well worth waiting for, thanks 🍷
I do like looking at it! It’s is impressive!
That looks like a lot of fun!
It was soooo much fun!
That's such a classy job. You've got more patience than me!
I’m amazed every day that I work on the boat that I have any patience for this type of work. There was no evidence in my youth of this level of staying power. 😂
Why wouldn't you use a membrane system like Schuter? Nice tin work...what to do with pan that cracked? It appears to be from lack of support or maybe a point load issue...I would uv glue it
I think I had a tool laying on that point and I may have stood on it thus pushing through the hole in the plywood underneath… Fiber glass the crack and copper on top is the solution…
Well done Canice! That craic is 90!
Sure it was mighty!😂
that looks bloody stunning. you creative little devil you.
Thank you Sue!
Wow 🦸
I know, right!😁
Oh my god canice ! That is absolutely stunning. I loved the sink I loved the ceiling but this has just blown me away ! It was worth the wait that’s for sure! Your Linda is becoming a beauty just like my late sister Linda! I love your channel I really do x
From now on it is very much about making Linda gorgeous….
@@canicebannon she already is ! X
Work of art. A labour of love. The patience of a saint. The hands of a craftsman. You have it all.
Thank you!
What a complete arse that shower tray at the end.
Your the only Dutch barge with a copper shower cubical! 😂
It’s an homage to the copper roof the old wooden Dutch barges had in the day. I was inspired by the green painted roofs!
Looking great Canice !! copper and brass give that really cool steampunk look
I’m trying to keep it to the 1910 period, when Linda was constructed.
Great job l’tete garcon
More hole than glove 👍
Burn your scraps if you have a stove .cant have too many coats 😂
Most of the time I would just burn it but I needed the space!🙄😁
😀👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻wow, quick gel coat repair 😀
Hi David! There’ll be a bit of that!
I didn't get around to posting anything on this... are you their good luck charm or what? Love the drone footage and OH WOW so much water to fall into... You have more guts than I do there! A wonderful time all around it looked like.
What’s even better is, I was able to fly with one hand and catch with the other! I was very proud of myself!
