I just got my Stowa Flieger a week ago. I have the 40 mm automatic version with the date. I've been wearing it constantly ever since. The Luminova is excellent and the watch keeps time very well. I love that Stowa allows you to choose a variety of configurations when you order. I requested the brown, old-style band and Stowa emailed me to confirm my request before they filled my order. It's great for taking vital signs in darkened rooms at work. The luminous second hand is amazing for this.
Great video! Great watch! FYI: Stowa is in the Black Forest (Schwarzwald) which is in Baden Württemberg, and not Bavaria (Bayern). Also, your watch is the original Flieger design and is not an homage (although as you say, it is an homage in the sense that it is some 19mm smaller in its case diameter than the original!) The inner ring of hours and outer ring of minutes is the Aviator version but both were made during WWII.
I have got the exact same version. Beautiful watch. I was lucky to personally meet Jorg Schauer, the owner of Stowa, here in Singapore at a roadshow. He's a lovely genuine guy with a lot of passion.. Cheers 👍🏻
Awesome watch, and fortunate they have created this 36mm for those of us with slender wrists. They actually have the option to remove the Stowa branding at 12 o'clock to be extremely accurate to the original fliegers. But yours looks great. Looking to get mine in the future as well. Cool that they give you a catalogue with the purchase.
Hey Chris, thanks for the video. This is the best unboxing video i've seen on the Stowa Klassik yet. How is the watch these days? Holding up well, still enjoying it? Do you find the size satisfactory or would you consider a 38 or maybe even a 40mm if you purchased it again? This is somewhat of a grail watch for me that I'm planning on treating myself with after I'm done with grad school. Enjoy!
Love the watch that you can wear 24/7 and this a perfect size for that. Always wanted a Stowa but I also have looked at sinn and damasko which are more of a modern pilot watch. Now I'm stuck lol.
I'm in a similar position, this Stowa has a great combination of blue and black, while it lacks a metal bracelet which I prefer...the Sinn 556i looks great but is a bit on the expensive side, at least new.
I love the Sinn 856 UTC but its not really a true vintage pilot watch. I would go Stowa or Laco for a pilot watch so you can own the real McCoy from those that built them in WWII. For another style, Stowa might not be the best choice though. For instance Im not a huge Prodiver fan. Another brand that builds a great German timepiece for a good price is Muhle Glasshute. Take a look at their Terrasport on Chrono24, I think you will like it.
Great review….thank you. We have very similar tastes. Your Stowa is configured exactly how I would also want it. If you ever decide to sell, let me know!
I have two Stowa's the first I bought like 8 or more uears ago, very similar to the one you shown in 38mm, and recently this past fall bought a fliger with date in white, love them both.. Great watches for the money both automatic. Next one I may get will be in winder, the first one was over a thousand dollars with cosco certifications and am extra band. First this in an honest company, well made. They take 3 weeks to a moth to get. Just one good word of advice, while ordering, order extra bands they're not really expensive and you can have a few bands in case you need to change if the get worn out. My recently purchase of the two was the Aviators Knows. It has a 40 mm case, do to dollar strength cost me a less then my original 38mm no loto, no date love them both. Maybe im s few months might order the Verus Black Forest Limited Edition.
I ordered the deployment clasp and love it. I had some slight fitment issues on my wrist as the watch would not "sit" properly because the leather band was so stiff. With the clasp now installed, the watch sits great.
Great video Chris. That is one fantastic watch as is a lot of the Stowa line. I like the Marine line with the white dial and the roman numerals. Stowa offers a lot of value in their watches. I have a 7" wrist so I am torn between the 36 and the 40 that they offer.
Hmm I may have just found my next watch ... was looking for a field or pilot watch to add into the collection. I'm a big history guy, particularly WWII history. I never knew Stowa even offered the Flieger in 36 - on top of that it offers a hand-wind version and no date. I'm sold... First thing I would do though is swap out a different strap; the factory one looks a bit too bulky, even though I know it's true to the style.
Barton Bands do a great Elite Silicone in a range of colours inc dual tone. I just got a pair for my watches and they're rather excellent for the money. I'm looking at this 36 too and will get another Barton if/when I get one.
when you pull out the crown does it directly go into the time setting position, or is there a bit of a intermediate position where the crown spins freely but doesn't hack the seconds hand until you pull it more firmly into furthest out position?. my one seems to be the latter, keen to hear your experience. thanks
There's also an Oris Bigcrown 36mm if you're unaware but that aside great review I do plan on getting the same stowa model at some point but they do seem to be more expensive now compared to the prices which I saw in the video.
It's a push/pull crown. When pushed you can wind it, and when pulled it hacks and you can set the time. No blank position in-between, the one usually reserved for date adjustment.
Martin Chivers Yep, I know this to be true of the no-date hand winding version with the ETA 2804. I'm wondering if it's also true is the automatic no-date version with ETA 2824.
I can make that happen. I love it. My only real complaint is the dial is printed and lacks relief, but at this price point I dont think any watch with a solid ETA and horological background has such a thing. I can talk more about that and some other watches on my radar...
The Verus has for instance no blued hands, and a lower-graded movement. But looks in my opinion more modern. Nevertheless, I just ordered the classic Flieger 40 automatic- can't wait to get it!!! 😀
The printing is white but has lum on all the numerals, indices, and hands including the second hand. The printing however is just that -- printing. I would prefer applied numerals and indices but at the $900 price point its probably asking a bit much.
ChrisWorldTV I think Stowa did a smart way of choosing printed markers and numerous on the dial. That is what original pilot style watch had in the past. I personally have this and Sinn 104. But I have to sell either one and still cannot decide what I should keep.

Pro tip: don’t put your light source behind the item you want to film..

@@DanielLoke-qg2qk I got it online from Stowa's website. I don't think they have a retail shop here...

Get both
5 years later and I just got myself a SInn 556i!

Very nice review. What does your wrist measure? I'm guessing 6.25 - 6.50 inches.
Thats precisely what it is -- depending on the heat and humidity.
Very nice and 36mm is perfect .
Thank you. I have been wearing it often.
Gorgeous watch and nice vid. Would've liked some lume stuff, as it is great on this Stowa.
Would love to see this in a 37.5 or 38mm with 19mm lug width.
Nice review! What is your wrist size? I have a 7 inch wrist. Very much in doubt. Do not like oversized watches. Cheers!
There's also an Oris Bigcrown 36mm if you're unaware but that aside great review I do plan on getting the same stowa model at some point but they do seem to be more expensive now compared to the prices which I saw in the video.
Great looking time piece Chris. Happy Holidays!
Great review! Also very friendly for lady’s wrist!
Hi. Can you do an update video of this watch.
That’s a beauty, congrats. What discount did stowa offer on it in December?
Is that the normal strap length? I have 6.25 inch wrists so I'm wondering if I should request to get a shorter strap instead.
When you order your watch they ask you your wrist size to make the strap accordingly.
Nice! Does the automatic no-date version have 3 crown positions?
It's a push/pull crown. When pushed you can wind it, and when pulled it hacks and you can set the time.
No blank position in-between, the one usually reserved for date adjustment.

the audio is so low
I would appreciate a follow up review on this watch

Does the Flieger automatic include hacking?
nice watch and nice size...unless you have a 9 inch wrist stay 40mm and below.
It's a real pity that they do not have a classic 36 without the blue accents, and the verus only comes in 40.
Really great review - time for a follow up review? Accuracy etc..
That does look nice. It appears the watch winds smoothly.
Is the lume cream or white?
❤
I really can't tell the difference between this (the classic) and the modern stowa flieger (Verus)
The Verus has for instance no blued hands, and a lower-graded movement. But looks in my opinion more modern.
Nevertheless, I just ordered the classic Flieger 40 automatic- can't wait to get it!!! 😀
Is the printing on the dial a faux patina or just white?
The printing is white but has lum on all the numerals, indices, and hands including the second hand. The printing however is just that -- printing. I would prefer applied numerals and indices but at the $900 price point its probably asking a bit much.
