I've had my eye on the 40 mm no-date version of this watch for some time now. Ticks all my boxes for a dress watch with one small exception. White dial, Roman numerals, blue hands, ETA movement, handwinding, display back. I'd put a dark brown crocodile strap on it. So what's holding me back? The lack of "Made in Germany" on the dial at 6 o'clock. I almost fell out of my chair when TGV mentioned this, too, at 25:53, as I thought I was just being picky. Ah well, I'll get over it and pull the trigger eventually. Edit: This morning I went on their website and did a "Live Chat" with a Stowa rep. Per the rep, the white dial now shows "Made in Germany" below the 6 o'clock position. Sweet! And much to my surprise, she gave me a discount code worth about $20. Placed the order for the watch and croc strap. Should be here in about three weeks. Merry Christmas to me!
This is exactly version that i dream about: roman numerals, date, manual winding. I stare at this watch for about 6 months at Stowa's website. One day I will buy it...
Bartosz Samsel it certainly does. It’s everything that TGV says about it in this video. It’s quite beautiful on the wrist. I stare at it on my wrist now for the same reason you stare at the Stowa website. Though I said I bought it, others of my family contributed as it was a present for a significant birthday. I do so hope you can stare at it on your wrist too. Is there a birthday coming up?

FWIW, I contacted Stowa just a few weeks ago to ask about the case depth for the hand-wound movements. I received the following: "Kindly note the thickness of the Marine Klassik with the ETA 2804-2 is 9,2 mm. The thickness of the watch with hand winding movement is one mm flatter then the watch with automatic movement." I wonder then; could this also be a factor of the date complication? Or, perhaps, a shortage of the thinner cases?
So im 15 years old and since i started watching your channel i have been obsessed with watches I bought my first automatic watch Seiko SNK605K1. I just wanted to say thank you for making these kind of videos and keep making great content.🤘✌
Superb video as always. I found your videos probably 4 years or so ago when I first became interested in horology and watch collecting. I must say, I have learned so much from your channel about the history and appreciation for watches of all price points. I'm sure quite a few people feel the same. Your channel I feel is largely responsible for the growing interest in watches. Brilliant. May God bless you and your family in 2019. Cheers.
Because of your videos, I decided to buy my first watch. I just bought the Seiko SNK809 and I've been staring at it all day. Never thought I'd get into watches, but I do see the charm in it. But yeah, I'm just a beginner and hopefully, I can learn more about watches. Maybe a simple curiousity can turn into appreciation, which in turn can turn to passion.
A truly fine video to start off 2019, TVG. I enjoyed the historical perspective. The Stowa 36mm Marine Classic is beautiful and affordable. Enjoy your new watch and have a great 2019.
I just bought one second hand but minty shape. I can't wait to receive this, bought the exact same model. I absolutely LOVE manual wind watches and I've been itching to add a Stowa to the collection. They offer some incredible value.
Hey TGV, happy New year first of all! For the last 6 months I have been following your channel and have learnt so so so very much, well, not just about watches (thank you for introducing me to such an expensive hobby lol), but also giving me the closest insights on what it means to be a true gent I could ever hope to find on UA-cam. I'm 20 years of age, and I think watches that each tell a story in themselves help me develop good taste in general and become the man I aspire to be someday. I very recently purchased my first ever swiss watch, a tissot le locle, and I'm absolutely over the moon! I cannot stress on how much I enjoy this watch and I want you to have the credits to that. Always keep inspiring us with your content and much love to you. Smiles! P.S. my mom cannot fathom why I bought a watch worth $500 :p
Needs the old Stowa logo, 100m of water resistance, a brushed case, no date window, MADE IN GERMANY on the bottom of the dial, and the dial itself should be cream or off-white. Otherwise it's perfect.
Tristano, let me tell you that I enjoy tremendously your channel. You are doing an incredible, extremely high quality job. I came across the channel about two years ago while traveling to Geneva for work and visiting the Phillipe Patek museum. Instead of emptying my wallet buying an expensive watch, I found your channel online and was instantly hooked. As a poor college physics professor I was looking for a good quality but affordable watch. I thought of spending less than 500$ or so to buy a small 3 watch collection. So, in part thanks to you I bought a: black face Seiko 5 SNK809, put a nice leather strap on it and installed sapphire domed crystal, looks so much like a flieger type B, a blue face Orient Ray II diver (almost got an SKX013 but preferred the orient at the end) and put it on a blue nato strap, and found a white face used Junghans Max Bill manual wind dress watch. Amazingly spent only about 600$, mostly because of the Jungians. I really love all three of them, super versatile trio. Through the process I enjoyed so much your channel, and now I am officially hooked on horology, which is a problem. If one of these days I do buy a higher end watch, I will tell my wife it is your fault.
Thank you for this vid! It came at the perfect time for me as I am absolutely obsessing over Marine deck style watches right now and the Stowa with the Arabic and Unitas is probably the next purchase for me. I especially enjoyed the history portion of the vid! Wonderful! My favorite yet!

Great review for a great watch. In the FAQ section on the STOWA website they actually explain, that they do regulate the movements, from 0 to max. +10 sec or depending on the actual movement +15 sec per day. I would also prefer the handwinding version, but as a Flieger with the B-dial. Thanks for sharing and happy new year!

I will always try to find time for your videos. Hope to see more videos from you soon. Thank you for the time , effort and dedication to your videos.
Great review, loved the historical background information. I'm curious about the watch height. I had contacted Stowa previously and was told "the thickness of the Marine Klassik 36 with the hand winding movement is 9.2 mm. Its one mm thinner then the Automatic watch." Was sad to now hear that your watch was just under 11mm. Not a deal breaker, but being under 10mm would have been fantastic!
Came for the review and was riveted by the chronometer history, thanks for taking the time to go over that, it’s so important to remember the wonderful work that went in to making those marine chronometers accurate under all the different conditions. That is a lovely watch. I’m tempted by the chronograph version. Great way to start 2019 thanks TGV

Before GPS Navigation, the Use of a Watch was very important in History. A Case in point was the 'Shoot down of Admiral Yamamoto' ! (April 18,th 1943 - One year to the day, after the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo) Fortunately for the Americans, the Japanese never changed their Naval Code during WWII. (Even after the Doolittle Raid & The Battle of Midway !) Once U.S. Naval Intelligence deciphered Yamamoto's Itinerary to visit The Solomons. The P-38 Pilots of the Army Airforce attached to Naval Air Operation (Guadalcanal/ the Solomon Islands - 'The Cactus Airforce') were assigned to shoot Him down over the Island of Kalilhi ( yes, a similar sound to 'Balihi' from Richard Rogers' 'South Pacific'). The Men of the 347th Fighter Group were assigned (most from the 339th Fighter Squadron) because None of the Naval Fighter Aircraft had the necessary range. Anyway, It would be a trip of "dead reckoning". As John Mitchell, the Flight Commander only had a Navy Compass He borrowed and His watch. The Mission was successful. But a controversy still persists amongst Historians. Who actually shot Yamamoto down? Because It was under a Naval Command; The Airforce pilots never were debriefed. Actually pilot Rex Barber was finally debriefed; once He arrived in China on His 2nd assignment, by 'Flying Tigers' legend, Claire Chennault. My conclusion is that Barber shot down Yamamoto, NOT Tom Lanphier. btw - They were all put in for the Medal of Honor by the Commander of Naval Fight Operations, in the Solomons- Adm. Aubrey Fitch. But days after the Shoot Down, Tom Lanphier was interviewed on a Australian Golf course by a Mutual Radio reporter. But because Admiral Halsey feared that the Japanese would change the Naval Code, after the interview. Halsey was so furious with Lanphier. He put him "on the carpet" ; threatening to have him, court martialed. So, instead of Medals of Honor; all 18 members of the U.S. Army Airforce flight, received a Navy Cross !
Day after day I eagerly search UA-cam anxiously awaiting TGV's return, but still nothing. It has been nearly a full month now. I am experiencing some severe withdrawal symptoms. Even a 2-second clip would be appreciated at this point. Anything to get us through to the next day. How long is this trip?
Thanks for this. Now have a couple of weeks of delayed gratification until they put together my 40 mm Roman manual on a polished milanese without date. Clean and classic. All the best.

A fine watch indeed and interesting history. Coming from a Royal Navy family I'm fascinated by marine chronometers, so I'm afraid I found that part of the video more interesting than the review itself! Anyway, happy new year old boy and looking forward to what you have in store for us in 2019.
Happy New Year Governor!!! Superb piece, but I was wondering, why do we (almost) always have to spend over $500 to get a 34-36mm classy piece? Except for Seiko5, I can hardly think of small dress watches under that price mark.
Yes. I am in the same situation as you trying to find anything 38mm and under at around the $200-400 usd mark. Annoyingly, only vintage! Orient star is okay, would like 36mm ad the sweets spot.

(Even after the Doolittle Raid & The Battle of Midway !)
Once U.S.
LOL that’s a fun story, thanks for sharing it
@@Dankyjrthethird- " Your Lordship", besides being a Troll; Your a moron … congratulations !

Everyone worried. He should post something to elevate the concern.
@@paul5753 alleviate even.😀
zzeuss87 I sent him an email and the auto reply stated he does not do the posting on Instagram or Facebook both of which are run by different people.
I recently ordered a Stowa based on your praises. Looking forward to its arrival.
How it feels?
Stowa, Junghans, and Nomos represent the best values in today's watch world IMO
Would the 40 mm version look too big on a 7.5 inch wrist?
Be well, Tristano.
Your intro just gets better and better! Glad to have you back mate.
That AP is gorgeous
Where is TGV?
Day after day I eagerly search UA-cam anxiously awaiting TGV's return, but still nothing. It has been nearly a full month now. I am experiencing some severe withdrawal symptoms. Even a 2-second clip would be appreciated at this point. Anything to get us through to the next day. How long is this trip?
Another wonderful education by you TGV. Many thanks. I don't believe I blinked the entire video. Too good.
TGV,
I hope this reaches you well! Looking forward to another wonderful video, maybe a review on Vincero by Hugo!! I hope all is well!
Thanks for this. Now have a couple of weeks of delayed gratification until they put together my 40 mm Roman manual on a polished milanese without date. Clean and classic. All the best.
Damn, I can afford that watch, damn you TGV !
Finally. Years have passed while I waited. Happy New Year TGV, keep it up!
Thank you :D
Will do, onwards and upwards!
Best regards,
TGV
Hey Tristano,
I sincerely hope all is well and this hiatus is just to recharge?!?
Can't wait for your return.
All the best,
_Scott

cheers

Thank you my friend, that means a lot to me.

On watchuseek (You Tube) they present watches, no gossip or something.
And about the truth I say. Keep calm and trust the Governor 😉
@@eusupporter8438 He's dealing with one too many UA-cam strikes... he's not being exactly honest.
I've had Stowa on my short list for a few years, and with this review, I am going to have to push that up higher on the list.
He may be missing for a while longer
As someone with smaller wrists, I am drawn to sizes like this. A beautiful choice to be sure, TGV.
I miss you!!! Where are you???
I'm probably going to watch this video several times. This little guy is on my list and I doubt there are many good videos of it nice job as usual TGV
wow that video must have taken you so much work. thank you
Thank you sir, greatly appreciated.
For such a cool watch, I felt it deserved it ;-)
Best regards,
TGV
Excellent video! Also great job on the history behind it. Pitty you sold the Stowa! This brand would deserve your support.
Harrison got a large sum from Parliament but I don't think anyone officially won the Longitude Prize.
What a great review TGV! Never I know Stowa to have such a great history. Was looking for your video after the last one. Appricate your great effort for all the great videos you made. All the way from Singapore. Have a great 2019 to everybody here.
