This era of Black Sabbath has been criminally overlooked by many, but if you really open your ears and your mind you'll discover that this era was musically rich and that there are many great songs from that period that still hold up very well today. Tyr and Headless Cross can compete toe to toe with Mob Rules or Heaven And Hell any day of the week.
I agree with you. I have been a Black Sabbath fan for over thirty years and most of that time I just listened to the Ozzy era and Ronnie James Dio era. A year ago I finally gave all the other eras a chance and I was very pissed off at myself for not doing that a long time ago. l now also love the Ian Gillian era, Glen Hughes era, Ray Gillien era, and especially the Tony Martin era alot. I really love The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, TYR, and Cross Purposes alot. The Eternal Idol, Headless Cross, and TYR are definitely on the same level of greatness as Heaven And Hell, and The Mob Rules. The Tony Martin era is extremely underrated. Just the song The Headless Cross should be a huge classic just like Paranoid , Iron Man, and War Pigs are. The riff on it is amazing.
I have this show on DVD. I have every Sabbath album, and I can say Tony Martin was one of the best. So horribly underated by "fans", and many of them never really bothered to listen to him and give him a fair chance.
Funny thing is he a throat infection at the end of this tour when they filmed the album (of course 99% of sabbath fans are unaware of this). Listen to Headless Cross from 1989. Eternal Idol from 1987 (Not too mention his four other albums with sabbath)> Saying this guy can't sing is like saying Ian Gillian can't sing. Can't remember the last time I saw a singer fill the shoes of 4 other guys before him (Osbourne, Dio, Gillan, Hughes) on tour? Tony Martin is a Brillian Singer and Musician.
i read somewhere on a bootleg site that his voice had problems 1992-94. look up the live in osaka bootleg. its amazing. he pulls off dio songs amazingly.
Music is subjective. Therefore it cracks me up how people on these posts start throwing mud saying one person is better than another! Tony Martin was my favorite sab singer (though I loved them all) he did the best job filling everyones shoes. Imagine the job "OK, we need you to fill the shoes of five singers over the past 20+ years... can you do it?" I saw him live so many times it was amazing how well he sang all the other past singers material. He is very talented.
I know alot of people will disagree with me on this, but in my opinion, this is the greatest Sabbath song. No knock on Ozzy and Ronnie, I love them too and they were a part of some of the greatest jams ever composed in the history of rock, but this one's #1. Peace!
Tony Martin is not only an excellent singer, he is also a very good musician - he plays many different instruments - guitars, drums, violin, piano. Cozy was looking for another singer but Iommi insisted on Tony Martin and here is the result, two of Black Sabbath's most musically great albums - TYR & Headless cross !!!
Cozy Powell came back for the next album and the last album forbidden with this lineup of Black Sabbath era Neil Murray also came back to play bass on the next album as well
Gezzer Butler is able to make the difficult easy. He is an elevated soul. I am seriously thinking that he is the creator of the universe. Cheers from Uruguay.
Before this i'd never heard Tony Martin live, and was in the thinking that he was a better singer than he actually is. But you hit the nail on the head there, in that he is a studio singer, a very good one, but only one all the same
I consider this to be Sabbath no matter what anyone says. Iommi is more sabbath than Ozzy. With Ozzy you get the best chemistry, Dio gives you a better singer and a classier feel. I like the more gothic sound of Tony Martin and there are killer awesome songs from that era. Its all good, well excluding Never Say Die!
From the day it was created, till now Black Sabbtah allways raised the standard for what a heavy metal band should sound like. And by the way Rondinelli's druming in this song is awesome
Martin was sick for most of this tour, unfortunately, so this isn't really a good example of what he can do. However, he still does great, which is a testament to his ability.
@cubby3o5 Tony never sang anything from the "Ian Gillan Era". Sure it was a short era, but just wanted to point that out. I really liked that they performed "Heart Like a Wheel" on the TYR tour though, that was as appreciated as it was unsuspected :D
I noticed that he did not hit the notes he hits on the studio version. But based on the work in the studio, this guy is every bit as good as Dio if not better.
I agree! But Geezer does this well. There are videos and recordings from the South American leg of the 'Headless Cross' Tour as well, where Bill Ward joined in, and they did this song Live w. him too.
I don't know how true thi is, but I heard he was sick during this recording. I tend to believe that because after watching some of his other performances (before and adter this one), he didn't have this problem. Neverteless, I like this version better thanthe original. Hopefully, they'll get together and tour at some point although, highly improbable...
Black Sabbath is a Legend and we love them. Everyone should listen to them. They are one of our biggest influences. Our band Amaggot Bordir owes alot to them. We just added a new video today on my profile if anyone wants to hear something new and heavily influenced by Sabbath.
TM is a excellent vocalist. Moreover, you never should expect the same performance for the live vocals if compared with the studio records. Simply because on tour your voice is highly damaged and only a few vocalists can maintain a good performance on stage after so much time singing.
LED ZEPELLIN,BLACK SABBATH,IRON MAIDEN,QUEEN,MEGADETH..MY TOP 5 and up the fuckin metal(acdc,helloween,blind guardian,hammerfall,dream theater,gamma ray,manowar,slayer,pantera,anthrax,motorhead,the cult,rush,)
I don't know how true this is, but I heard he was sick during this recording. I tend to believe that because after watching some of his other performances (before and adter this one), he didn't have this problem. Nevertheless, I like this version better than the original. Hopefully, they'll get together and tour at some point although, highly improbable. I think these four still have the talent to make good songs such as this one!
You're wrong!!!! this is Sabbath beacuse TONY IOMMI IS SABBATH and Geezer is the original bass player and Tony Martin was the second band's longest-serving vocalist.
I notice it's missing a verse, but that's not unheard of. In other live perfomrances, I've herard the one missing here (How does it feel when the locks refuse the key, etc.) as the second verse, since the original second verse is repeated anyway.
its the only video that i found of this concert, but i have a lot of cool stuff. This saturday i gonna upload Born Again's Digital Bitch and zero the hero live in london... stay tune!!! REYMOND from Mexicali Mexico (the north of course)
@drockkclapton If he was singing you would be hearing the same damn songs you always hear when Ozzy sings for Sabbath. Tony sings stuff from every Sabbath era.
This era of Black Sabbath has been criminally overlooked by many, but if you really open your ears and your mind you'll discover that this era was musically rich and that there are many great songs from that period that still hold up very well today. It's one of my all time favorites
I agree with you. I have been a Black Sabbath fan for over thirty years and most of that time I just listened to the Ozzy era and Ronnie James Dio era. Cross Purposes is undoubtedly a Masterpiece!
I love Toni Martin's era.
"Tyr and Headless Cross can compete toe to toe with Mob Rules or Heaven And Hell any day of the week." They can't, but are still great.
I have this show on DVD. I have every Sabbath album, and I can say Tony Martin was one of the best. So horribly underated by "fans", and many of them never really bothered to listen to him and give him a fair chance.
Bob Rondinelli is so underrated! He did a great job filling Cozy Powell's shoes with both Rainbow and Sabbath.
Rondinelli was awesome here!!
Tony Martin was sick during this show, but he does his best to assure the show.
2020 and I still like this song, never gets old...
Listen, classics never die.....🤘🤘🤘😉
i love watching geezer play that bass. it looks awesome and so flawless. he's an intense player.
He totally is. I dare to say, he's my favourite Black Sabbath vocalist.
Tony sounds like the perfect cross between Ozzy & Dio.Yet he also has his own sound .
Tony’s heavy guitar riff is the ultimate of metal
The heaviest, by far.
all the singers in black sabbath are unique and they all shared their talents with the world
I love Tony Martin, he brings a totally new and unique sound to Black Sabbath. Much better than Ozzy era IMHO
i read somewhere on a bootleg site that his voice had problems 1992-94. look up the live in osaka bootleg. its amazing. he pulls off dio songs amazingly.
Love this song
Music is subjective. Therefore it cracks me up how people on these posts start throwing mud saying one person is better than another! Whatever Iommi does it's fantastic! All hail Sabbath!
ÉPICO....
Mr.Bobby Rondinelli👉 Great Drummer 👊👏👏👏
UM dos melhores trabalhos de TONY MARTIN no grande BLACK SABBATH !!! Pra min ele fez um bom trabalho , assim , como IAN GYLLAN .
great team with Vinnie Appice & Tony Martin, awesome drums, perfect voice... Sabbath is eternal.
That's not Appice. He was back in Dio with Ronnie at this point. The drummer is Bobby Rondinelli.
That's Bobby Rondinelli.
I know alot of people will disagree with me on this, but in my opinion, this is the greatest Sabbath song. No knock on Ozzy and Ronnie, I love them too and they were a part of some of the greatest jams ever composed in the history of rock, but this one's #1. Peace!
Tony super!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Man deserves more respect. Amazing albums he did.
Headless cross and Tyr are epic albums Tony Martin is such a brilliant vocalist
Love me some Black Sabbath yeah
Sabbath line up show: Iommi, Martin, Butler, Rondinelli And Nicholls👏👏👏
Bobby rondinelli👌💪👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Great Show of Sabbath🎸🎤👏👏👏
Que temazo te levanta el animo x las nubes 👍🖤💣
Tony Martin is not only an excellent singer, he is also a very good musician - he plays many different instruments - guitars, drums, violin, piano. Cozy was looking for another singer but Iommi insisted on Tony Martin and here is the result, two of Black Sabbath's most musically great albums - TYR & Headless cross !!!
I feel and think the same, one of my top favorite songs.
Jorge Solano Vargas m
Cozy Powell came back for the next album and the last album forbidden with this lineup of Black Sabbath era Neil Murray also came back to play bass on the next album as well
True🎵🎼🎶🎸😎👊
Who is ozzy? Tony Martin the master.
headless cross is a great fucking song. Tony Martin rocks yeah! \m/
A great live version of this great song!
Gezzer Butler is able to make the difficult easy. He is an elevated soul. I am seriously thinking that he is the creator of the universe. Cheers from Uruguay.
I saw tony play this in a cover band in 2005 that played a couple old sabbath songs as well and it was fantastic
Tony brutal
Before this i'd never heard Tony Martin live, and was in the thinking that he was a better singer than he actually is. But you hit the nail on the head there, in that he is a studio singer, a very good one, but only one all the same
my fav version of this song
iommi and geezer are fucking great on this song and clip.
Its all good, well excluding Never Say Die!
the shining!!
no headless cross......just post both of them
tony martin rules!!
Geoffrey James Nicholls r.i.p 🎼🎶🎹🙏👊
From the day it was created, till now Black Sabbtah allways raised the standard for what a heavy metal band should sound like.
And by the way Rondinelli's druming in this song is awesome
Hard rock. Not heavy metal. Even iommi doesn't understand that term
I really liked that they performed "Heart Like a Wheel" on the TYR tour though, that was as appreciated as it was unsuspected :D
very good.. i have this concert on dvd.. BR does a great job, playes it allmost like the orginal.. .. i would rather have had cozy though
Bobby has a history of replacing Cozy 😌
Great song 🏆
I feel this era was greater than ozz together
black sabbath com tony martin e destruidor
geezers bass brauche ich morgens zum aufstehn
@judasbrave
Agree...great album..i love it!:-)
Great song by Tony Martin !!!
(and this drummer is Paul Stanley ?) kkk
Clássico!!
I like how HnH isn't doing any Ozzy stuff, but this sounds like a good one for Dio.
I'd also like to hear Dio sing Valhalla.
I noticed that he did not hit the notes he hits on the studio version. But based on the work in the studio, this guy is every bit as good as Dio if not better.
AMAZING
Black Sabbath is the world best heavy metal band in the world.
Hard rock. Even iommi dodesnt under stand the term metal. Metal has no melody. Or very little. This is all melody.
yeah! definitelly!
Tony Martin is the world best heavy metal Lead Vocalist in the world.
This is hard rock. Even iommi doesn't say this is metal. Metal has no melody.
I agree. Bobby Rondinelli is great on the tubs; a lot of stomp and power.
I agree! But Geezer does this well. There are videos and recordings from the South American leg of the 'Headless Cross' Tour as well, where Bill Ward joined in, and they did this song Live w. him too.
The best.
Very good quality video. Martins sounds better live than on the album!
Best drummer ever!
Yes, you are correct. It IS Tony Martin...but I think the OTHER singer you mean is RAY Gillen.
Shining dude,cmon!
great video..hail!!!!
🤘😠🤘 FODASTICO ✝️🎸🎶
Black Sabbath is the best !!!
@ModalGroove
I'm not agree...i LOVE Dio but Tony Martin is a great singer
Tony Martin is the BEST
On of the best solos of Toni in my opinion
I assume you're referring to Ray Gillen... as no one named Randy has ever been a member of Sabbath. And Ray was in (and out) the band BEFORE Tony.
@Dawn43069
yes!Great Bobby!
I don't know how true thi is, but I heard he was sick during this recording. 슬프지만 단 한번도 토니마틴의 제대로 된 라이브를 본적이 없다.
과연 스튜디오 녹음판에서 보여준 엄청난 질감의 헤비메탈 고음이 실제로 시현 가능한건인지 의문이든다.
Black Sabbath is a Legend and we love them. Everyone should listen to them. They are one of our biggest influences. Our band Amaggot Bordir owes alot to them. We just added a new video today on my profile if anyone wants to hear something new and heavily influenced by Sabbath.

Grande Sabbath!
I agree 100%
@sheldondoppler
yes is Geezer \m/
Black Moon too...in fact, the Martin albums have 3-4 gems on them each, even the "lesser" Tyr and Forbidden.

Does anyone know why they cut out a whole verse from the song from 1994 till the end of the Forbidden tour?
I don't know how true this is, but I heard he was sick during this recording. I tend to believe that because after watching some of his other performances (before and adter this one), he didn't have this problem. Nevertheless, I like this version better than the original. Does anybody know why the Black Sabbath albums with Tony Martin on vocals are unavailable on either Spotify or Apple Music?
The recordings are owned by IRS records. Tony has had a difficult time doing anything them. Not sure if it's legal or what
Is Cross Purposes Live out on DVD? And why the hell not?
its the only video that i found of this concert, but i have a lot of cool stuff.
This saturday i gonna upload Born Again's Digital Bitch and zero the hero live in london... stay tune!!!

@drockkclapton If he was singing you would be hearing the same damn songs you always hear when Ozzy sings for Sabbath. Tony sings stuff from every Sabbath era.
@cisteina1 no, you missunderstood me, my question is what bass guitar is Gezzer playin? I know he is the allmighty Gezzer
@eli123ky
yes!
yes, you're right :P
