when i first watched, somehow I missed ep 6 where they showed who is Mike earlier. And never really got a good look at who Mike was in the flashbacks, so for me the first time I saw Mikey was at the end in the finale and i though wow that's exactly who I pictured Mikey to be, it was perfection, reward. Tbh i didn't know there was that episode 6 until their reaction here.
There's so much to unpack in Carmy's monologue, so many little details: - He starts off saying "my brother's an addict - my brother WAS an addict". We later see the same feeling of not wanting to let go when Richie says he didn't want to give Carmy the letter, because it would mean Michael was "really gone" - He says "I'm a cook". In episode 1 he says he refers to everyone as "Chef" as a sign of respect, but despite having been literally the best Chef in all of the US, Carmy still can't refer to himself as "Chef" - He mentions he "had" a stutter growing up, and if you pay attention he does stutter a lot when he's nervous - He says "I don't think I'm funny", look back at the scene where he and Syd are talking in the alley and he clearly has difficulty laughing even after she clarifies her comment was a joke - He talks about how anyone coming into the kitchen was "competition" for him, we see a blatant example of that in season 2 There's more to find but those are the ones I could think of. Also, Jeremy Allen White killed it. You know it's a good monologue when you don't realize it's a monologue until it's over
Are you referring to Will Poulter? He mentioned that he thought he was the best until he met another that was beyond him. We later see that he was talking about Carmy.
@@roems6396 That's the one, yes. Another example of a nice detail about his character, that later comes back, in Chef Luca's kitchen we see a sign that says "Every Second Counts". Later we see that same sign in Chef Terry's kitchen, and learn that Luca worked under her.
I don't think you actually see the canning machine until the first episode of S2, when Richie is moping in the basement wondering what his purpose is. I don't think the basement appears in the first season at all.
I hate that neither Sydney or Marcus returned Carmy’s apology. Like he’s gonna own up to his mistakes and admit that he was wrong for going nuts on them, but they won’t do the same. Marcus: sorry I wasn’t doing my actual job and picked the worst possible moment to focus on my side project. Sydney: sorry I left the preorders on and accidentally got an article written about us that caused a massive order wave that we couldn’t fill and cost us a ton of business. But no they were just so happy to shift all the blame on Carmy.
Tbf Carmen said in episode 5, mistakes are going to happen. Imagine making a mistake at your job, being called out for it, attempting to fix said mistake, being yelled at for it, and then days later being expected to apologize. It would be kind of pointless when she already attempted to rectify her wrongs. I always saw it as Carmen didn't attempt to rectify the way he spoke to sydeny, so that's why he apologized. That's why I personally don't think Sydney needed to apologize for anything other than leaving, and even then, that should be more directed to people like Tina, Ebra, and Gary, not so much Carmen because if he acknowledges that the way he was acting was wrong, then he would understand her leaving being a valid response to how she was being treated.
nah it just seems like the decent thing to do. Both of them fucked up, Syd definitely a lot more, but both should have apologized. Carmy was an asshole, but they put him in a majorly shitty position.@@tloj2469
I cried when I watched the episode, and now I cried again watching this reaction. Honestly, I would never expect anything like that when I started watching Ep 1. Now I understand why the show deserved all the awards it got
If you go back to the first episode when Carmy is trying to make the spaghetti, you'll notice he threw away a small can, meaning he threw away a couple grand
Richie using his phone call about to tell the truth, but then realizing he doesn't want to be Richie "Bad News" again and just shifting gears makes me sad.
12:55 in my case, the army. You learn quickly to get your winks whenever there's time. When the first bars of Let Down started playing I immediately started tearing up, by the time credits rolled I was a mess. Great reaction guys, can't wait for season 2.
I love those first glimpse of Carmy texting Syd to calm down before opening the letter and saying "you look like Syd" to Tina when EVERYONE wear that apron Some people ship them, others sees them as platonic soulmates but god I just love them. That monologue at the start is so good and one of my favorite scenes in the whole show (season 2 included)
Carmy literally throws a can of tomato sauce in the trash in the first episode. Also having Let Down be the final musical sting is so incredible. What a finale to a first season, and it only gets better. Looking forward to your reactions of the rest so far, great show
Just noticed that it was Gillian Jacobs on the phone when Richie calls. Kinda crazy that they already casted that character without even knowing if they were gonna get a season 2.
That monologue, that passion, emotion n everyrhing else is one of the big reasons why i loved this show and why it turned out to be an awesome show, Jeremy Allen White is fantastic and i'm glad this show put him on the spotlight
I havent seen this before, just watching your reactions. I think him stashing the money was he knew he wasnt ok and was gonna "leave", and said F this, im not paying vendors this is for my family to succeed after im gone.
In the first episode we catch a glimpse of the back of Mikey's head and we wonder who that is and in that very last scene with Mikey smiling at Carmy it ties it together.
I think it’s more comfortable for guys to sleep sitting up cuz our necks are as long as women’s but it’s really comfortable when ur tired and can’t lie down
"how do men sleep like that" 😂 i used to be just as amazed. then i went to basic military training and 5 weeks in i got caught sleeping standing at attention during formation 😅
I would’ve liked a little acknowledgment from Sydney & Marcus of their responsibility in the chaos too. Sydney knows that every previous kitchen has said she’s ambitious and impatient, so it’s not a good look that she accidentally gave a food critic the dish she’s been pushing. Despite Richie fanning those flames, Carmy trusts her and still seems to believe that it was an accident. He requested to talk about it later and the passive aggression was unhelpful and unnecessary, but so was the passive stab and shot about Richie’s daughter. Then Marcus was literally not doing his job during a nightmare situation, so while I respect his tunnel vision to his craft, that commitment comes with consequences (ESPECIALLY when you’re fucking everyone up around you to accomplish it).
I like the way these last two episodes showed both Marcus and Sydney not taking accountability for their actions and then acting like little children whining about it and her house.
@@candycaneri That's a different situation entirely. Should he have? Yes. But we get to see Carmy's growth by watching him apologize unnecessarily when he absolutely, 100%, without a doubt, and undeniably did nothing wrong.
Sydney and Marcus calling Carmy a bitch when they both were arguably the biggest problem-causers that day is kinda wild. She left the pre-order on in the new system she has been pushing so hard which is the #1 issue and Marcus is fucking around with R&D when they're in the weeds with orders. Great character building but they need to own their side of the street.
I feel like this is life in a nutshell though. People who are toxic as hell but are convinced that they're in the right. Then you have probably 50-60% of people who either agree with them or at least lay blame equally across the board because it's simple to do. If I worked there and either of these two came back, I'd quit the same day.
How about Carmy should be a better boss and check the new systems HIS restaurant is implementing? How the hell can you be a leader and not double check NEW SYSTEMS that controls ORDERS with your own eyes? But ofcourse he left everything to fall on Sydney as usual
@candycaneri what you are describing is micro-managing. Sydney is pushing the tablet system and she fucked up. Marcus' job is making cakes for order. They both failed and acted like Carmy getting angry about it after it happened somehow caused it to happen. That makes no sense chronologically.
@@DanyonRussell What I'm describing is Carmy not checking on a NEW SYSTEM that he knows will be implemented in HIS RESTURANT. That's A BIG DEAL. You ALWAYS have more eyes on that since it's a new system. His mistake for not being a better leader. Not saying Sydney doesn't get some blame but that's why you have protocols and standards which it's clear Camry had none.
I’m a man, and good golly god Jesus, Kali Maa, do I wish I could just sleep fully dressed anywhere…. If I even lay down without preparing for it my body goes into shock 😅
