You're spot on saying Syd's food tour was her talking to actual chefs and restauranteurs. I've seen chefs reacting to The Bear and they could name every single chef and restaurant that appeared in the show
Not once did any of Sydney's peers ask who she's working with. I guarantee you, if she said "Carmen Berzatto", all of their doubts would have been silenced. They wouldn't have questioned it.
it makes it seem like she’s trying to gauge whether or not her peers believe in her and/or think she’ll make it regardless of who her business partner is which is very understandable but i do agree with this sentiment that her peers would’ve IMMEDIATELY casted their doubt had they heard his name.
Someone from production mentioned that they purposely make the food taste horrible. The editing & music in that montage was perfect. At least we got to see Sydney interacting with other peers. 😊
Even though Sydney isn't an owner she's doing so much. She told her dad that she was pushing off payment while the other chefs like Tina and Ebri were going to culinary school and still getting paid on time. It just really sucks that Carmy put that deadline on them and he's not taking any of his responsibilities seriously. He's leaving everyone out to dry. Notice how he stopped going to the group.
I didn't get any weird vibes from Claire imo, I thought she was being normal. Clearly they have a thing for each other and have known each other since childhood
definitely could easily make a call. also, if something is unavoidable than the phone call isn't a priority. "hey, called to tell you gravity is still working." seems a meaningless call.
Naah, you still make the call if you think the person is equal to you. Imagine a married couple, lets say there is something that needs to be changed, will partners not talk about it before doing it ? ofcourse. You will call them, and say 'hey, the plumber says the heater is fuckd and they need to change it, cool ? ok, see you'. Like we can see carmy get visibly upset in the upcoming episode when he is in sydney's shoes.
@@the_crypter etiquette dictates you make the call. Practically, the call isn’t a priority because nothing’s changed. Nothing that Sydney is doing is interrupted any different than it is for Carmy or anyone else.
This episode was highlighted by both Claire and Sydney. Claire providing food for thought with her clever dialogue and Sydney providing food with her restaurant tour.
What I found strange about the whole "have a partner you can trust" is that Carm is the one with the business on the line, risking losing it all if not successful. Sydney hasn't invested money in this "partnership" so other than possibly losing some wages, how could she be burned?
I mean, she's one of the three people giving up her wages until the restaurant is stable. So all the time, energy, and emotion she puts into this is completely unpaid for now - this is her investment.
@@yuratchkaplisetskys3063 I understand that, of course she is placing trust in Carm that her future earnings will be worth the sacrifice. In that respect, she is an equal partner with Sugar and Carm. However, that's where the comparisons end. Carm has millions of $'s on the line in the deal with Cicero so I don't believe it's fair for people to be questioning whether she has a partner she can trust. Plus, nobody is asking whether Sugar is at risk without any contract/legal agreement. She seems to be committing just as much time, energy, and emotion as Sydney with the additional pressure of being pregnant. Why dedicate plot time to Sydney and not Sugar?
@@StevenScotland81-ur1etI see your point, however, Sydney & Carmy were supposed to go out together to different restaurants, but he bailed on her, so I guess they decided to focus on Sydney without Carmy to just show that whole side of restaurant industry. I’ve realized at this point that the show is about showing the audience more about chefs & the restaurant industry as a whole. Hopefully, they will show us more of a Natalie next season, especially since she’s pregnant now.
You’re some of the first people I’ve seen react to this show and not immediately be on board with Claire… and I agree. As a character, I just find her pretty boring and perfect? She doesn’t really have any flaws, and maybe that’s because we don’t really see her on screen as much, but still. My main thing is, how is she doing her med school residency and has ALLLL this time to just randomly hang out with Carmy? It really feels like her character’s only purpose is to be a point of conflict for Carmy and not like she’s her own person.
Carmy was very frustrating here. Yeah he deserves to have something good in his fucked up life but it's his restaurant. Sure it's never been spoken aloud (to us) but Syd was there for the second loan pitch to the uncle so to me that says partner. Syd and his employees need him. Claire will be there.
My issue with the character of Claire is that it feels too obvious that she's being added to the show to provide a new conflict and so it's difficult to get really invested in their relationship (despite the actors having great chemistry imo).
So carmi, is supposed to be micheal Jordan of food, see deeper layers in this show, they all put him at MJ level, they live in chicago take a breath and digest……ain’t no body like mike unless your mike, he destroys every competition, therefore there is none, and he is still climbing
Claire was weird, yah. When you're given a fake number it means the other is uncomfortable, not playing games or inviting you to chase them. Take the massive hint, lady!
I don’t understand what syd has done to warrant a partnership so the scene where she gets upset about the wall was strange. As far as I could tell she is or is going to be a salaried chef de cuisine so menu consultation would be a part of that. I’m just failing to see where she has any skin in the game.
I do find it quite strange, always thought that Carmie should have a better boundry of employee and employer with Syd and his cousin, I just don't see myself being so entitled to being clued in into big decisions if I'm just an employee who doesn't front any capital.
She has experience running a business in a way that he doesn’t. She came to sous in a shit show restaurant where many would’ve quit long before she did and she stuck it out. He sees something that he acknowledges he needs to have for whatever he wants to do to be successful
The writers of the show really seem to do everything in their power to make Sydney’s actions and attitudes seem unjustified while simultaneously expecting the audience to side with her. It’s very bizarre.
Sydney is a bit ridiculous here. She's a creative partner, but Carmen has far more experience, owns the building and the land, acquired $800k funding to her $0. In no world would she be a full business partner. Why would she need to be included on decisions about getting basic rebuild done? She doesn't own that building and there's no design or layout decision being made.
I found the character Claire kinda boring surprisingly I mean you could describe the characters on this show as a lot of things but boring is not something I had come to expect, she seems like a person written for a different type of show and I felt like the connection between her and Carmen was a bit forced it’s important for carmy to have a life outside of the restaurant but I didn’t care for how it was handled this season
I do not like Claire bc if the guy gives you a fake number why are you still chasing him? Where is your self-esteem? And then the way she talks with Carmy - she needs his car, makes a joke that sounds like a threat that someone could beat him up... eveything about that is annoying, not funny. She pushes and pushes until he does ditch Syd, and some part of him must feel really good bc of her chasing him. He is probably not used to that kind of attention. And I'm sorry I love him but my boy is so stupid 😭. Your restaurant is meant to open in 11 weeks dog, we don't have time for this. Really ? Becuase I felt the complete opposite, she presented such a stark contrast to the normal, grueling, toxic setting of the show, like a flower in hell. I loved her as a character and thought her addition to the show was great.
Ok, "She's working her ASS off!" No. She is eating great food in multiple great restaurants. Yes, it is for work, but it is not work. Certainly not working your ass off work. Its like a musician going around to music venues to listen to other musicians. He eventually texted her. Probably should have done it sooner yes, but the solo food tour is hardly a hardship. The only one you really think about calling while something like this is happening is one of bldg mngr/landlord or the building owner. Who in this case is Carmy. They set this up as to show Syd is taking a risk here, which she no doubt is. But Carmine is risking far more. And if any of those Chefs she spoke asked who her partner was, and she resonded by saying exactly what she said to Carmy in episode 1 when she told him "I know wo you are." "The most excellent CDC in the most excellent restaurant in the country." Im sure they would have all thought she was extremely lucky.
