Nick Johnson my understanding is that a couple of churches helped Burmese refugees in the early 90s and they just kept coming. Most of them are Mon, an ethnic minority in Myanmar. They have Buddhist temples and Burmese tea rooms - and Fort Wayne is historically a very German city
@@barefootinroann Burma has had problems with its military attacking neighboring countries. The country is forcing people to go to different countries. I also love the content, not many geography channels that go in depth like your videos. cheers
Hi Nick! Good content! Just want to point out that some of the stats shown for Asian Americans includes people from the whole of Asia, not just East Asians. For example, it is mentioned in the video that Redmond WA has 34% Asian population. I am pretty sure that includes all Asians (including Indians) and not just East Asians. Keep up the good work! :)
I'm surprised Texas wasn't on this list. Vietnamese is the third most commonly spoken language in the state of Texas. but then again, this list only appeared to include those of Chinese, Japanese, and Korean heritage, totally not including those southeast nations like Vietnam and the Philippines
In the video, we do learn that the majority of Asians in a town of Virginia are Vietnamese. And I also think he specifically mentions the fact that in Alaska, there are a lot of Philippinos. While in a 10 minute video, you are only going to hit highlights, he is pretty thorough. Regarding Texas, it probably means that Vietnamese is a distant third to Spanish, and remains below the percentage of Asians found in Alaska (which is number 10 on the list).
Texas has around 5.4% Asians (All Asian races). The 10th most Asian state in this list is Alaska at 6%. So Texas couldn't make the cut. I am sure in large cities like Dallas, Austin the Asian populations are bigger. But we are talking about the overall population in the state. This list does include all Asian races from Indians to Chinese to Filipinos, etc. There is no way California can reach 14% Asian population if it only includes North East Asian descent.
Sir, I think your data is misleading bc you are using percentage of asian in a state instead of total asian living in there. You are forgetting that each stat's total population varies. As an Asian, I assure you that California has the most Asian. Texas has a lot of asian too.
John Bell The title says "most asian states". California is the state having the most asian in total but compared to it's total population, it is not the most asian. Hawaii is the most asian state...California "has" the most asian state.
John Bell you confused total population and percentage, 2 different things or numbers. California has most asians but also has others too so percentage asians still not that large, but I think asian population now in America more like 10% if you included new arrival, immigrants, illegal n aliens n refugees n legal asian, not just asian Americans, citizens.
There's also a vietnamese football player for the Dallas cowboys . Dat Nguyen . Im just adding in too your list of asians that play ball sports ! Im not even naming the ones in boxing , mma , or any other competitive sports . I have watched many of your videos are good, and informative , thanks and keep up the good work !

Thousands of Filipinos started to migrate into the US especially in Southern California, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, VA in 1586 long before the declaration of independence. Then after 1898 filipinos migrated to Hawaii and Alaska too.
The arrival of Filipinos to Alaska dates back to 1788, when crew from merchant ships came to trade furs with the natives. Eventually, whaling ships brought still more Philippine crew. Many settled and married women of the Aleut, Eskimo and Tlingit tribes. The United States bought Alaska from Russia March 30, 1867 Therefore, Filipinos were in Alaska 80 years before the United States purchased Alaska. Here is another facts: Oct. 18, 1587: First Documented Arrival of Filipinos in (what became) the U.S. by way of a Spanish galleon, that docked at what is now Morro Bay, California. The Pilgrim: Mayflower arrived in New England on November 11, 1620. Therefore, The Filipinos were in America 33 years before the Pilgrims came to settle in Plymouth Massachusetts. More facts: The First Asian American Settlement Was Established by Filipino Fishermen. The fishing village in marshlands of present-day Louisiana was settled by the so-called Manilamen as early as 1763. Through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, United States bought Louisiana from France. Therefore, Filipinos were settled in Louisiana 40 years before the United States acquired Louisiana from Napoleon Bonaparte.

im surprised that sunset park Brooklyn wasnt even mentioned as an Asian hot spot, because we have a china town here and in the past decade, they have spilled over several communities and have taken over.
Unlike Europeans who have settled in the US for long time, Asians are still new and hold their native countries identity more. Modern communication and transportation also help them reach back to their old countries and maintain their old roots easier. That being the case, looking into Asians in American separately by their origin country would be more revealing. For instance, Indians, Chinese, Filipinos, Koreans, Vietnamese, and others will reveal different and interesting picture of their location, job, income, education, assimilation, etc. They would, of course, probably reveal certain commonalities that justify grouping them together as well.
This is false. Chinese laborers went to California EN MASSE in the 19th century, and Japanese laborers went to Hawaii in the early 20th century. There are families that have been there for longer than my Scottish ancestors have been here. Do your homework before saying silly things like this.
When you say Asian people, we think as Asian immigrants and 1st or 2nd gen Asians, not the early Asian settlers like in Hawaii. Hawaii people dont come under Asian category because they werent immigrants like in California.

This was because a lot of Vietnamese were shrimp fisherman. Most Vietnamese settled in Garden Grove, CA.

Sir,
I think your data is misleading bc you are using percentage of asian in a state instead of total asian living in there. You are forgetting that each stat's total population varies. As an Asian, I assure you that California has the most Asian. Texas has a lot of asian too.
John Bell
The title says "most asian states".
Yes, California by far has the greatest in terms of sheer numbers.

Thousands of Filipinos started to migrate into the US especially in Southern California, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, VA in 1586 long before the declaration of independence. Then after 1898 filipinos migrated to Hawaii and Alaska too.
By swimming?
By diving
The arrival of Filipinos to Alaska dates back to 1788, when crew from merchant ships came to trade furs with the natives. Eventually, whaling ships brought still more Philippine crew. Many settled and married women of the Aleut, Eskimo and Tlingit tribes.
The United States bought Alaska from Russia March 30, 1867
Therefore, Filipinos were in Alaska 80 years before the United States purchased Alaska.
