@@niiyon4852 awwh this comment made me so happy because I've watched this two years ago and now I realized how far I've come in art since then. Everything really does come into its place with some time and practise ☺️💕
DIY light box: a piece of glass from a picture frame (you can get these at the dollar store + if you get a big enough one you can keep the frame on, which I recommend because the glass is sharp!), a large Tupperware container slightly smaller than your glass, and a phone flashlight. I did this recently and it worked perfectly! I know it’s random but I’m at the part of the video where she mentions them and I was like “oh shit I have a hack for this!!!”
I know I'm late to the party, but what an absolute gold mine. Jam-packed with so much valuable info I sat completely transfixed from beginning to end, lol. As a bonus I feel justified in recently having bought these fineliners in every color I could get my hands on!
Your characters are very androgynous to me! I never know if it's a boy or a girl, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I like that it could be up for interpretation.
I'd like to use microns more but I always get very wobbly lines even on smooth paper so at the moment I've found they are alright for doing loose sketches that don't need to actually look neat.
perfect tutorial. you brought up pretty much every single problem i've had while trying to learn lining with a micorn pen and provided a solution to it. thank you so much for this!
I was trying to see how I could make designs on crappy paper watercolor cards that just let the paint through, and I found this! A great lesson and an inspiration for new ideas! Thanks so much!
These were really great tips. I'm always learning and trying new things. :) And your drawing is sooooo amazing, as usual. I always always enjoy watching your videos, especially lineart.
This is my favorite piece from you so far and this is only the line art! I've been in a rut of serious artist's block for the past 3+ months and I'm getting so much inspiration already; gorgeous as always!
Heyyyy, human from da past! I just wanted to say that I really hope you had gotten out of your art block and if so then I bet you are an amazing artist!
When it comes to using a lightbox I really like doing a very simple tracing of the sketch underneath, turning the lightbox off, and then going in to add line variation. It's just easier for me because my sketches typically aren't very light so keeping the lightbox on while trying to do line variation can get a bit confusing because the sketch lines start looking like the inked lines. Plus it's really nice to see a before and after with line variation, I always take pics of the 1st step of inking and then afterward and it's cool to see how big of a difference it makes and how much it improves the entirety of the piece. I'm super excited to see this piece colored though, looks incredible already
This is really helpful, thank you! I struggle with traditional inking with a standard fineliner so I'm going to try out these tips. Your lineart is always beautiful!
I adore all of your artwork, but this piece is probably by far one of my favorite. I love this pose and figure! Can't wait to see the finished product. Also, this tutorial was really helpful and insightful to your process for inking
I found your channel some days ago and I'm totally in love with your style (': plus, I'm starting with watercolors and I haven't found many channels that paint cartoonish-non realistic people, so basically it seems that I won't use Netflix this month 😂 Thanks for sharing all this content!
I wish I had the patience for doing detailed lines like that! I have such a bad habit of just sketching something quick and moving on! Would love to get into the habit of making finished pieces instead of just sketches, though. Love the tutorial! Just got a set of Microns a week or so ago and I've been struggling with them a bit.
I hope you see this, but I've recently found your channel and you have inspired me so much. I'm a good artist however I haven't drawn in probably two years, I've just lost my confidence completely. What would you recommend to build my confidence in drawing back up? I never know what to draw and when I do get ideas I can't make it look the way I want and get frustrated. I feel like Im losing my talent :(
Ok, so I'm looking for advice. I always thought that my art wasn't that good until I was hanging with my friend who's an art major. We started doing some at things together (because I still think art is fun even though I don't think I'm good at it), and she told me that I'm actually really good. This made me rethink. I started sharing my art with others and they really appreciated it. However, I still think my art is at that unsharable level. Does anyone have any suggestions to getting past this idea?
Share it anyways! No art is unsharable, and if you wait until you feel it is, you'll never put yourself out there! Doing it takes the fear away from it, and can help build your confidence as an artist.
I agree with Wil! Just start posting your art online, and keep showing it to your friends! You'd be surprised how interested people are in art that you aren't happy with haha. Not all art has to be perfect either, and definitely don't compare yourself to others who are many levels above you!
Alexander Wood just do it! Sharing your art helps you improve and be comfortable with it, people can give you tips and you’ll just feel better about it in general! Have you done it yet? Lol I wanna see your art
The thing is, your art is always going to be "unsharable" because you're always comparing yourself to people who are better or where you wish you were. Even if you get to the level you wanted to be at last year or ten years ago, you'll still believe it's unsharable because it's not as good as you want it to be. Your own standards are constantly increasing, the horizon line keeps expanding. If you want to get comfortable sharing your art, you have to appreciate the things that you do like that you're doing, even if they aren't the best yet. You can still love something without it being perfect, and if you want to be happy with art in general, your going to have to. Nobody ever thinks they're perfect, it's about loving your work anyway. You also are not obligated to share: your joy is yours, and if it makes you happier to keep it to yourself or only share with close friends, then don't feel pressured to do what other people want.
I couldn't find any colored ink micron pens in my local arts stores...they even claimed these only come in black. I really wanted more colors, but I can't even find brown...they suggested some colored pens that they claimed were waterproof, but luckily I tried them on some scrap paper first and they smudged VERY much. I think the only way I can get colored micron pens is to order them online from another country.
Hi Danica I have just found your channel, of course I have subscribed! I love your teaching style. I have been watching your watercolor toutorials and you asked for ideas. I would love to see a toutorial of the following style, I have just started to have time to enjoy painting! I love this style its so interesting to my eye. Well, I will be watching for it. Thanks! Going to go check out you patreon page now!!
@DanicaSills instead of using paper or vellum to avoid leaving skin oils or mess, can latex gloves or any type of gloves work? Also I agree with you on doing the finer and more detailed areas first, never thought of it before, thanks for that tip!

So I am extremely new to watercolor, and my microns say waterproof. So I use them and they freaking bleed omg. Well, only half of the drawing did, idk why. Anyways, I have a question. When you were starting out, did you also feel very discouraged? Or how long did it take for you to get the hang of watercolors
October Dreamer From my experience, you always want to leave your lineart out to "dry" overnight. The only way for you to have complete control over the kind of waterproof ink you use is to switch over to dip pens and quink.
Yep, they are microns. I got them from amazon (I actually have them mixed with ones I bought from that Wish site...) I'm not sure which one I used, maybe they were counterfeits.
It all depends on the piece. The ability to mix any color I need for line art is one of the reasons I have been working to learn how to use oil paints lately.
