This was a helpful tutorial. I haven't inked anything in several years, but when I used to do a lot of inking as a teenager, I thought each line I inked had to be one single pen line, no picking up the pen at all. & the end result was a lot of wonky lines that didn't quite connect. I'm glad I thought to watch a few tutorials this time.
@Ratcha Being left handed isn't a "special trait" being able to use both hands is You either use your left or right And if you're different: Both Mendoza did nothing wrong
The auto subtitles called your pens "piglets", which is super cute. Thanks for the video! I took years off from drawing, & my inking has really suffered as a result.
i know this is bit of an old vid but lately i've been struggling with line weight and monochromatic shading (wanna prepare for inktober but got no experience) and this video is helping me so much! thank you
The pigma sensei and micron pens are both by Sakura so if you want something like microns but cheaper get the pigma, you can get 4 pens and a mechanical pencil (costs $8 by itself) for a set for $6.50 or so they were my first set
I don't know if I'm just doing something fundamentally wrong, or whatever, but when I do my line art over my sketch(wait until it dries)and then erase the sketch it lightens the line art. It's probably really simple, and I'm just really stupid, but if anyone has any tips or solutions, that'd be great. Also, nice video! REPLY Alex Charlot
I'm probably late lmao. But it might be your pens or how the way you erase your outlines - if you erase was too hard it will lighten up your pen (Same applies when you're sketching and you erase stuffs on an area way too much, once you're lining it and erase the pencil marks it will lighten up).
How smooth do the lines need to be? Whenever I try to outline with the micron pigma pens, no matter how steady my hands feel, the lines don't seem perfectly smooth... especially when looking really up close.
For Sakura Pigma Sensei, Sakura is Sah-koo-rah and means cherry blossom (also a common Japanese female given name), and Sensei is Seh-n-seh-e, it's a way to address someone who is a teacher, doctor, ect., usually knowledgeable, and can be used as a honorific in Japanese (i.e. calling your teacher either Sensei or Uchida-sensei). When sensei is used as a honorific, it's very similar to our Mr./Mrs. but is culturally different. I'm not so sure about Marvy, but Uchida is U-che-dah, it's a common Japanese family name that means inner rice patty. I hope you learned something, thank you for the video. It really helped :)
Hmm is a roller tip pen the same as a ballpoint pen? I love using those, they can get such a cool texture. The only thing you would need to check if it's waterproof if you plan on using watercolour with it or something.
how do you vary the line weight with a pencil? the 3 sketches you did for the apple, hair and grass all have varying line weight. I'm struggling on how to do this in my sketches with pencil
how long do you typically wait after inking before you erase the pencil underneath? I have problems with smudging sometimes... maybe its just the brand I use? (I use prisma color fineliners)
Every vid on microns has them so dark and I just got mine today and it’s so not dark I feared that it would happen and it did am I doing something wrong? Idk if it’s because of the camera but when I use it I can see through it. I draw in the anime style so it needs to be sharp and dark and if I go over it again I just go off and it’s so frustrating. I think I’m just being impatient but it’s so just stressful. I love your video! Ü
I love your style ;0; this was really helpful, thank you so much ! By the way, do you know what paper you're using? I'm using printing paper currently and it's kinda ... crap lol
I'm pretty sure I used printer paper for this too, because I wasn't planning on colouring them! What kind of materials do you use? I could recommend some paper.
JelArts I mainly use pencils, sometimes paried with coloured pencils, but the colouring kind of looks uneven because of the textured paper. I was thinking about something smoother, but there's so much to chose from ;^;. Thanks for your reply ^^
+Melissa May if you see my channel , you'll know that i am drawing mlp or you can just know it from the profile pic . so uh , is it good ? and thank you for giving me that tip ! have a nice day !
So do these prevent the skipping?? because if I try to outline my work with just a pen it like gets stuck over the pencil if that makes sense so it'll come out in like scatter lines instead of one even stroke. And that just messes up the whole drawing I spent hours on 😂
Fan of Alita It’s your choice. I only use 5 ( 005, 01, 02, 03, 06, 08) because i’m to lazy to buy new ones. And if your wondering i use pigma fineliners. they last very long! hope this helped.

I'm glad you think so! Thanks!
The auto subtitles called your pens "piglets", which is super cute. Thanks for the video! I took years off from drawing, & my inking has really suffered as a result.
Thanks really did help!! My lines would all be shaky and it didnt look good so once again thanks a lot!!
i know this is bit of an old vid but lately i've been struggling with line weight and monochromatic shading (wanna prepare for inktober but got no experience) and this video is helping me so much! thank you
Thank you I've been really scared to Ink my art. But this really helped alot. 🙏💗
Thank you art angel for these art lessons❤️
Omg thank you! This really helped me
Thanks! I'm happy you found it helpful.

Do you think you could do something with prismacolors? Like how to use them and things like that; It would be really helpful if you could
That's a good idea, I'll keep it in mind!

emi baumgardner it may be your pens. I find that my lapen does that and cheap ink, but microns dont as much. Same with nice ballpoints too
i found this, hope it's helpful www.reddit.com/r/learnart/comments/4elz5d/when_erasing_the_extra_sketch_my_ink_also_go_pale/

I'd really suggest getting a kneaded eraser and carefully lightening the entire sketch then inking, then you have less to erase after.
Lightbox+redraw, It help having better results
I've always used really thin sharpies for lineart which works well for me usually
Thx for the links I'm a newcomer in drawing looking for supplies
So for that cartoony look I need either a multi liner or brush pen? Awesome vid by the way got a new subscriber in me!!
How smooth do the lines need to be? Whenever I try to outline with the micron pigma pens, no matter how steady my hands feel, the lines don't seem perfectly smooth... especially when looking really up close.
I was wanting for this !... thank you so much :D
You're welcome! Glad it helped.
super helpful thank you!!!
even though I understand little of English, I loved your job!
thankyou for all the tips! i do have one question... will microns smear with alcohol markers?
Rem Is cool They do smudge with Copics which are alcohol markers so if you don’t really want it to smudge I recommend you get the Copic multiliners

i love this video and it is so helpful but how do you scan your drawings?
Alex Hobbs I use the scanner on my printer, then I edit it in Photoshop (sorry for the late reply!)
Is it okay if I just use a roller tip pen? It's a pen I've been using for a long time and it works really well.
Hmm is a roller tip pen the same as a ballpoint pen? I love using those, they can get such a cool texture. The only thing you would need to check if it's waterproof if you plan on using watercolour with it or something.
The first part is just a flex.
how do you vary the line weight with a pencil? the 3 sketches you did for the apple, hair and grass all have varying line weight. I'm struggling on how to do this in my sketches with pencil
Super helpful!
Do strarpies smudge when you use marker over it?
Amazing tips!
Thanks so much :)

Thank you this helps a lot
I'm glad it was useful for you!

I love your video! Ü
fuck all these fancy art pens, I finna use a G2 pen XD
Is it okay to flip my paper when I'm drawing? My videos are speed drawing. I'm thinking that maybe they are bothered by the spinning of the paper 😶
It's fine to spin the paper. It will help you with the line art :)
Hello! I live in Essex UK and I wonder if there is a Michael's store there?
Phil's Eyelash I don't know, you'd have to look it up!
wow
Is a Mitsubishi pen OK?
Nathaniel Ceniza why the OK at the end 😂😂😂
Anything that youre comfortable to ink with is fine! I tried gel pens and it worked!!
Can you color in spaces with pens
I would recommend brush pens or a pen with a very wide nib to colour in large areas. Or, liquid ink & a brush could work just well!
JelArts thanks, but i only have the normal drawing pens
can you use a extra fine fiber tip pen
I love your style ;0; this was really helpful, thank you so much ! By the way, do you know what paper you're using? I'm using printing paper currently and it's kinda ... crap lol

Oh yeah yeah very helpful
Tachikawa (立川) nibs
thaks for your tutorial but i have a question ....
is 0.6 too large for lineart ?
(EDIT) : woah, 8 answers ?! Thank you sooo munch guys!
Yup its TOO LARGE 0.05 - 0.2 is ok
Thanks
Bomb64 it really depends on you, wbat you like. I sometimes like to use an archival pen, for the thickness and verried effects it gives.
+Melissa May if you see my channel , you'll know that i am drawing mlp or you can just know it from the profile pic . so uh , is it good ? and thank you
for giving me that tip ! have a nice day !
It depends. When I’m doing doodles I use sharpies(the thick ones)
So do these prevent the skipping?? because if I try to outline my work with just a pen it like gets stuck over the pencil if that makes sense so it'll come out in like scatter lines instead of one even stroke. And that just messes up the whole drawing I spent hours on 😂
Maybe you should try lightly erasing
Copic liner > micron , especially on tiny tip
You should’ve done one in color TwT But those was really helpful! “T H I C C lines..”
I have a brush pen and im having a hard time using it
How much liners do one actually need? A set or more?
Fan of Alita It’s your choice. I only use 5 ( 005, 01, 02, 03, 06, 08) because i’m to lazy to buy new ones. And if your wondering i use pigma fineliners. they last very long! hope this helped.
I took a long break from art and spent a week crying because my line art which used to be amazing is now absolute crap , and here we are
ScrapDraws Shut the f up I saw a video on your channel it’s amazing
HELLO LEFTY!
5:00 is where tutorial start.
nice.
Talent comes from inside. Not from materials.!
the dipping ones are called G pens, I think
I'm the first one to comment 😉
copiccccccccc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
