Yes! I was just about to comment this but I saw you requested it first. I'd love to see a tutorial on hair with tight curls. I have a character with that sort of hair but I can never get it right.
Hey Danica, great tutorial! I'm just wondering if you could maybe make a tutorial on the hairline, and understand how hair flows from the hairline? I have a bit of trouble with this in my drawings, and the hair seems to start in unnattural places or feel very flat.
The way I usually make bobs more dynamic is through the overall shape of the hair. I usually give it a shape that looks like it's being whipped up in a storm. That allows me to play more with the negative space and overlapping shapes. I also focus on the bottom edge of the hair, you can create some really interesting lines and negative spaces with the cut end of the hair.
I love getting 'inside your head' as you explain your hierachy of process. It makes it so much easier to remember. So many artists teach from just what yiu see - which can change, and the artist has to recreate.
I like how she never just says that people are doing this wrong, and corrects mistakes your making like other artists, but she instead uses her own art as an example as how she could fix it and make it look better.
I loved how much detail you got into, as most tutorials don't really seem to explain so thoroughly ones own process. I think i got confused once but i was multitasking LOL. I adore your style and can't wait to see your next video!
You know, like how most ladies cut straight across bangs with that really straight look? .... I have no idea how to explain this I hope this makes sense...
Didn't even start the video but I just want to say thank you for doing this tutorial because I've been waiting for this ever since I discovered you. The best part about your art is the hair, the different styles and how perfect they fit your characters is fantastic
Thank you so much! That really means a lot to me to hear that you like it. Hair is something that I really had to work at to get to the point where I actually liked it. Now it's my favorite thing to draw.
This is gorgeous!!! I really struggle though with getting this level of detail and preciseness with curly hair, I just can't seem to break down the shapes into swoops whilst keeping the feel and impression of heaviness and thickness; if I do thick, heavy curly hair it ends up being a mass of shading and light, which whilst fun, isn't always the super clean, detailed look I'm going for you know? I see other people have requested curly hair already, I just wanted to pin down more precisely what I personally struggle with when doing curly hair! Thank you so much for sharing so much of your work process and tutorials, they're so helpful!
Thank you so much! I found you recently and I just get lost in your hair, unable to figure out where to even get started. I get as far as "basic shapes" and the detail just boggles the mind. Thank you for breaking it down like this, it doesn't seem so scary when you look at it from this perspective haha.
This is really helpful :D It was a relief to see even an advanced artist rethinking shapes/lines & re-drawing things, during the speed-sketch; it was both fascinating and humbling to see that process. On the "working in three's (3's)", Ethan Becker mentions the idea of "big, medium, small", which I can see in your hairstyles already xoxo This was explained very well, and had some awesome examples :D
I watched a ton on how to do dreads and not one was in a style that worked with what I am trying to do your so clear and easy to understand I am greatful it lead me to you. One thing I was wondering could you do a video on how to mix hair styles I do a ton
just wanted to say that i absolutely love your art! i am still a beginner and so its really frustrating sometimes when you have something in your head but it doesn't come out right on paper. but your art and videos help inspire me to keep at it so thank you!
this is really helpful! i've always struggled with hair so usually i don't put too much detail in but this video has made me wanna go away and practise
That makes happy that this was helpful for you! Hair details are one of my favorite things to draw, once you get the hang of it, it's almost relaxing :)
This is a great tutorial. I always have trouble with the flow and line variation of hair but this really put it in a new light, thank you! :) My only request is that you do a video on how you color hair? By that I mean your process of deciding where to put the shadows and highlights and such.
This is a great video but I would like to learn more about how you draw the fine details inside each hair section. For example, how do you decide how many detail lines to include in a hair section, where to draw the lines close together & where to draw them further apart, how the lines should curve to conform to the shape of the hair, and how those lines should overlap each other?
@Danica Sills....thank you for taking the time for this...it was very informative. I understood about the contours and line thickness, but I always have an issue with the thin lines; whenever I add something like that they always end up looking like worms, lol. I know this takes time to learn, but do you have any tricks or tips on how to see them differently? Thanks so much...I really love your illustrations...they remind me of old movies 😄
I would love to see a tutorial on you you do the minimal strand style. It looks so simplistic (which makes it gorgeous) but seems hard to wrap my head around :/
Finally a hair tutorial that makes sense / easy to follow! A small question, how do you decide where to put each of the thinner lines within each lock?
"if you take a lock of your hair" ...bold of you to assume can do that x) I've got afro type hair there's no way in hell I can find a lock in there No seriousy amazing tutorial, the hair in your pieces looks so alive and flowy yet detailed :O I come back to this video every time
Does Photoshop have some kind of stabilizing setting I was unaware of to get linework that smooth? I know painttoolsai has a stabilizing setting. Beautiful art work and a fantastic hair tutorial. I'm looking forward to implementing some of these techniques. ♡♡♡
Your tutorials are so helpful and interesting! They actually make you want to keep watching instead of zoning out while, I've improved so much in both watercolors and digital art from your tutorials. Also I just wanted yo ask what brushes or brush settings you use?
this would've been hard for me for explain I just make random lines here and there and that's pretty much it but I just have no idea about the short male one (not the brush haircut), the animoo sorta shit
Hi! Might be a dumb question, but how do you make your lines so perfect? I've seen there was a similar question down in the comments, but it was left without real answer. Thanks a lot!
I love the hair lines you've done. How did you get your brush on photoshop to do such smooth lines?! I love your art and attention to detail of the hair. :D
Thank you for the idea! I have put it on my list of video ideas. No promise when I will get around to it. In the mean time this is another video that goes over my hair process a bit more. ua-cam.com/video/vELF69_BSj8/v-deo.html

I actually read the sills as skills so I had to look again 😂😂😂
I love how you draw hair! The only thing I'm having problems with is with placing the lines when you have a bunch of space.
Same with me
^^
I also have this problem >_>
I was kinda hoping for a solution in the reply part here. heh guess not.
Can you do Afros? Or hair with kinky curl patterns? i love your art by the way. I found you last year and I instant subscribed.
Yeah, I think curls and heavy waves are really difficult to do. Would love to see her do a tutorial on this!
Absolutely! This was the most requested hair type/style so I'll make sure it's my next tutorial :)
Yes! I was just about to comment this but I saw you requested it first. I'd love to see a tutorial on hair with tight curls. I have a character with that sort of hair but I can never get it right.
Danica Sills Christina Lorre did a tutorial in type 4 hair. It was really good. You should see it.
Braids! And a men's hair tutorial would be super useful too, especially very short hair
Could you do undercuts/ more masculine haircuts?
studygranger yeah, this would be helpful. There's hardly any hair tutorials on UA-cam for short hair/undercuts.
I love the look of undercuts! I'll defenetly make that tutorial happen in the next few weeks.
Danica Sills ahh I'm so excited!!
Danica Sills yay!
svnhells undercuts don't have to be masculine ;)
“Hair has volume and thickness to it”
**looks at my thin ass hair in the mirror**
Ehhh...
Still more volume than if you were bald though right?
Hey Danica, great tutorial! I'm just wondering if you could maybe make a tutorial on the hairline, and understand how hair flows from the hairline? I have a bit of trouble with this in my drawings, and the hair seems to start in unnattural places or feel very flat.
That's a really great idea! That is a specific area that can be a little tricky. I'll add that to my tutorial list, thanks for the suggestion!
How would you make a bob cut dynamic? You often have really dramatic long flowing hair. But what about short hair? How would you work with that?
The way I usually make bobs more dynamic is through the overall shape of the hair. I usually give it a shape that looks like it's being whipped up in a storm. That allows me to play more with the negative space and overlapping shapes. I also focus on the bottom edge of the hair, you can create some really interesting lines and negative spaces with the cut end of the hair.

def do a braid tutorial!! i love the way you draw braids
snowy the tru god Have you seen her braids/viking warrior hairstyle video? I absolutely loved it!
Thank you so much! And I love drawing braids... I don't think I could resist doing a tutorial on them :)
I like how she never just says that people are doing this wrong, and corrects mistakes your making like other artists, but she instead uses her own art as an example as how she could fix it and make it look better.
can you do a tut on pony tails and front and side views
This helped so much!
Can you do an Afro or dreadlocks tutorial?
I'm so glad to hear that! And Afros were the most requested hair type so that will be my next hair tutorial. Thanks for the suggestion :)
ive always been in awe with the way you draw hair, so thank you a ton for making this tutorial!
Thank you so much :)
I loved how much detail you got into, as most tutorials don't really seem to explain so thoroughly ones own process. I think i got confused once but i was multitasking LOL. I adore your style and can't wait to see your next video!
I'd like to see how you color hair!
Or as for styles how about straight-cut hair... does that make sense?
You know, like how most ladies cut straight across bangs with that really straight look? .... I have no idea how to explain this I hope this makes sense...
Grace Daniel a fringe?
Yeah! That thing!
This is honestly one of the most useful tutorials I've ever seen. Thank you so much.
this has got to be one of the most helpful drawing vids I've watched, honestly.
could you do a video about how to color/shade white/light hair?
Amazing hair tutorial! I´m always impressed how many hairstrands etc you make.
her drawings always seem so powerful...
This is a really detailed tutorial! Your art is so pretty, I love it
Didn't even start the video but I just want to say thank you for doing this tutorial because I've been waiting for this ever since I discovered you. The best part about your art is the hair, the different styles and how perfect they fit your characters is fantastic

Really helpful! Hair is my biggest weakness in sketching and will definitely try out your way of creating hair.
Great help in line variation, thanks!
Thank you so much! I'm glad it helped!
Could you possibly do a tutorial on drawing a face from the side or from an angle please? I love the movement and life in your pieces!

Saw this notification on my phone and OMFG YAY I got soo excited. I LOVE your style, especially the hair. I second the men's hair tutorial.
That makes me so happy to hear! I'm excited to do the men's hair tutorial, I love drawing men's hair :)
Thank you so much! I found you recently and I just get lost in your hair, unable to figure out where to even get started. I get as far as "basic shapes" and the detail just boggles the mind. Thank you for breaking it down like this, it doesn't seem so scary when you look at it from this perspective haha.
Ahhh!!! So happy!!! Finally a video on hair! I love your art style so much, and only starting up again recently, this is so helpful! Thank you!!!
I'm so glad to hear it was helpful! Thank you!

I really love your art. It's cartoony while being realistic. :)
You're so skilled! Like watching your videos always puts me in a creative mood
this is really helpful! i've always struggled with hair so usually i don't put too much detail in but this video has made me wanna go away and practise
That makes happy that this was helpful for you! Hair details are one of my favorite things to draw, once you get the hang of it, it's almost relaxing :)
I abselutely adore how you draw hair!
Oh yay! I simply adore your hair/ribbon/smoke look! Thank you for sharing your techniques. ♥
Love all the information! Lots of great explanation of why you do things and why the thick and thin line work! Thanks
You have a beautiful style! Glad I stumbled onto your channel. I look foward to looking through the rest of your vids
I have a lot of trouble with shorter hairstyles, so help with that would be awesome !
Really love your channel and art style, I've got no idea as to why i haven't seen your videos till now but now I'm subscribed xD
I love how you draw hair! It's so unique!
I would love to see your method(s) and examples of drawing dreadlocks.
Seriously, you make it look so easy! But I know it just takes practice. Back to the sketchbook!
Wow, this really helped me! Thank you so much Danica!
i love the colors you use
Hey Danica! Do you use a stabilizer of some sort with photoshop or are you just naturally that incredibly stable-handed?
Thanks so much! This really helped me learn alot about making hair details!
U dont know how much time I was waiting for this
(Sammy from Brazil. Big fan)
Hi Sammy! I'm so glad I didn't make you wait any longer then!
please do another hair tutorial!!! maybe a half up half down style?
This is a great tutorial. I always have trouble with the flow and line variation of hair but this really put it in a new light, thank you! :) My only request is that you do a video on how you color hair? By that I mean your process of deciding where to put the shadows and highlights and such.

awww. you seem so sweet and your art is o pretty. i really needed help creating more detailed and flowing hair, so this helped a ton! ^^
I would love to see a tutorial on you you do the minimal strand style. It looks so simplistic (which makes it gorgeous) but seems hard to wrap my head around :/
Very informative! I really like this inkbrush you are using. Do you mind to show the settings? It looks very smooth.
this really helped me!!! i have trouble doing the hair usually
I'm so happy to hear it was helpful!
Could you please do curly hair? I find the curls quite hard to draw.🙏🏻
You should try to draw a character with short hair, and then find a different way to fill up space. Your art is amazing!
Woo hoo! I was so looking forward o this tutorial!
Me too! I feel good that I finally got it done!
I've been waiting for this my whole life
Haha well I'm glad I could finally deliver :P
Thank you so much, I've been struggling a this recently and I can't wait to finally be able to draw hair xD thank you, Danica
I'm so glad I could finally get this up for you then :)
Yeah it was great help for something I've been working on for a bit but have struggled with
I must say that this has helped a lot! I was having trouble doing one of my characters hair, and it was getting really irritating. Great tutorial!!
YASSSS!! While trying to find hair tutorials for study I found your channel and now I am obsessed _ new sub _ :)
Finally a hair tutorial that makes sense / easy to follow! A small question, how do you decide where to put each of the thinner lines within each lock?
I'd love to see fun short hairstyles, like punky or pixie styles.
Your final lineart looks very neat, almost like vector lines! Is it a special tool or just a steady hand? How do you do this? ❤
Thank you so much! And it's just with a regular default Photoshop brush, I love lineart so much so I spend a lot of time practicing :)
I love drawing hair, it kind of helps me to relax
I love drawing it for that same reason :)
Lordy, thank you! I am so bad at drawing hair, especially how it flows, and braids, etc. Thanks so much, Danica! Also, happy New Year!
I'm glad you liked it! And you have a fantastic 2017 too!
I'm learning so much from your videos! Thank you so much for them. I love your works
i love the way you draw hair its so beautiful

No seriousy amazing tutorial, the hair in your pieces looks so alive and flowy yet detailed :O I come back to this video every time
I was going to ask for a male hair tutorial but you just said you would do it ! :D Can't wait !
I can't wait to start working on it, I love drawing men's hair :)
Does Photoshop have some kind of stabilizing setting I was unaware of to get linework that smooth? I know painttoolsai has a stabilizing setting.
Beautiful art work and a fantastic hair tutorial. I'm looking forward to implementing some of these techniques. ♡♡♡
Do you think you could do a tutorial for coloring/shading hair?
Thanks so much for this, I have created more realistic hair with much more volume and texture!
Great job on the hair tutorial miss!😙
Thank you so much :)
You’re work is so beautiful 😍 thanks for the walk through and inspiration 🖤
OMG!!! I love your art style!!
i always wanted to know how this technique is done thanks
Can you do a video on how to get clean line work. Sketching is okay for me, but when it comes to the line wirk, I tend to give up.
Your tutorials are so helpful and interesting! They actually make you want to keep watching instead of zoning out while, I've improved so much in both watercolors and digital art from your tutorials. Also I just wanted yo ask what brushes or brush settings you use?
Can you do a traditional hair inking tutorial

I love Your artstyle so much
this would've been hard for me for explain
I just make random lines here and there

This helped me so much!! But my only problem is what hairstyle to do on a person how do you choose what goes with them?
What a beautiful artstyle 😍
Could you do hair that's half shaved? I'd love to see that! ❤
Hi! Might be a dumb question, but how do you make your lines so perfect? I've seen there was a similar question down in the comments, but it was left without real answer. Thanks a lot!
Hey thank you for your videos.! Your art is amazing and i appreciate your thorough explanation!
Could you please make a tutorial about curly hair? Also thanks for the tutorial, it really helps and I love your art
Thank you so much! And a curly hair tutorial would be really fun for me. Thanks for the suggestion!
