@@deriznohappehquite Tbf gaming as a whole was way smaller than it is nowadays. Fighting games sells nothing compared to blockbusters, and they definitely don't have huge communities, but they still go hard both casually and as esports, I wish the same could happen with afps one day
Ray, About your Lawbreakers v Overwatch argument, I believe the term you were looking for is instead of having Hard Counters, as overwatch has, Lawbreakers has Soft counters, as things like medics can get killed easier by the assasin or gunslinger, while tank can shred assasins and gunslingers.
Optimus Prime, I used default bonesaw as medic in TF2 for that reason. I'd just crump people in the face until they died if they got too close. You'd be surprised at how effective it is against pyros.
firescaw I'm quite a bit late to this but I'd have to disagree. As someone who has played in several of the betas, every class has the tools available to outplay any other class. For example, as a medic versus an assassin if you use your kicks and which gun makes the most sense for what part of the map you're in (grenade launcher or pistol) you can keep her off you and take her down.
GrandMoffBarkin I think you missed the point of my argument, I was stating that in lawbreakers, everything is a soft counter, as something like an assassin will have an easier time against a medic, it's nowhere near as guaranteed of a win in a 1v1 like it would be for a genji vs a zenyatta
Nah man, I was just saying that I don't think its a soft counter type situation in this game as in my experience at an equal skill level, every class has a fair shot against every other class.

it will take you a bit to adjust to the mechanics, but youll eventually learn (and the best way to learn is find someone to show you) that the maps are massive playgrounds for movement. you can do wildly awesome jumps. this doesnt take away from the gameplay at all. in higher levels, some people forego skill movement and just outshoot you with excellent positions. you really can find your own playstyle

The best aspect of Arena Shooters is the speed and I'm beyond glad that aspect has returned. Along with infecting other franchises; reminds me of the old days playing UT '04 with friends. Another fantastic video man. Never heard of Reflex but now I'll have to check it out. Just to get better than you.

Watching this in 2020, so sad that Lawbreakers died so quickly. I had a blast with it during its brief life, and watching this video brought back happy memories.
Thank you so much for mentioning Reflex. It's such a great game, and I'm so sad that there are so few players. Even though I'm in Europe where probably most players are at historically it's still hard to find matches.
Damn, this is great. What you said about Gunslinger is true, but it looks like he's the weakest because he has the highest skill ceilling. Devs nerfed him after beta 1 because he was OP if an experienced player used him, so they nerfed him (a bit too much).
Makes sense. Of the two evils, an underpowered character is much less of an issue than an overpowered one. I'm curious to see what they'll do with him in the next update.
He's weak? I get most damage every match in the team. It's all about setting him up, and he can do every single situation like you stated. He feels more flexible than any other character to me. I lean for the battle rifle and the magnum for halo in every situation to great success and was a god as the hunter in destiny so he feels like a blessing to me personally.
I'm very happy that Arena Shooters are finally coming back, I was a huge Quake and UT player back in the day and still play UT2004 actively to this day, it's just so good. Definitely will be trying all these new games out, Lawbreakers looks very promising.
@@Axyo0 If you were a shareholder, would you greenlight a battle royale, a profitable genre proven to generate ludicrious amounts of revenue, or a genre that peaked in the 90s
@Axyo Battle Royale was a craze that every large publisher began to utilize to great success. I think that correlation in this case does mean causation, as developers were forced by publishers to work on more Battle Royale-style games such as Apex, Blackout, and even Nuclear Winter in Fallout 76.
attitude in reflex sounds like attitude in any new game, or in any not so popular game/community, for example i have psvita, and everyone in gaming community makes fun of this thing and says that it's not great, and dead (it's dead, yah), but its community on reddit is the most nice and caring people in the internet i've ever seen. same, for example was for me a moba from EA called dawngate, its' community both in game and in the internet was awesome. when community is tight and small and people understand that there are not that much of people to play with, they care about each other much more.
Exactly. With certain exceptions most of the online games I've played since they were new started with a nice, polite community and then after several years took a deep dive into toxicity. It usually happens when they go free to play, or after they have a successful marketing campaign and repackaging of the product which makes players from poisonous games such as Counterstrike, CoD or any console shooter move to that game.
I cannot overstate how high the quality of your videos is. Every one explores topics in a depth and fidelity that no other content producer does. You truly are one of a kind Raycevick.
Regarding the DUels in QC/Reflex: You might dislike the big maps in QC now, but believe me they are needed. Those of us who play the new Unreal Tournament had to learn this hard way. Small maps actually just encourage a lot of spawnfrags. You can look up some Reflex duel tournaments on UA-cam. Winning a match is 50% spawnfrags, 40% positioning, 10% aim. Totally agree tho, Reflex is THE best afps right now. I'd give the honorary mentions to Titanfall 2. The devs didn't realize at the time, but they accidentally created what is almost an afps instead of what was supposed to be the "cod-killer". Months after release the players still keep breaking new mechanics in it, as a result of which it kinda plays like an afps now. First it was slide-hopping, then grenade-jumping, then air-strafing, then eject-strafing... Right now it's grapple hook strafing. With all these exploits in combination with regular abilities, the game got even faster then most afps.
The reason Overwatch got so popular was the personality of the characters and the world they inhabit. Having solid game-play is of course, important. However, that is the most basic aspect of your game. It is the little things that make a good game into an excellent one. There are a lot of games that offer satisfying game-play but fail to offer anything else and therefore, nobody will remember them in couple of months. Hoping Lawbreakers will be something different since Bleszinski is involved.
Watching this video for the second time makes me realize how much I absolutely love your editing, Raycevick. You've got a sense of presentation, pacing, showmanship, and gravitas seldom seen in analysis videos all over UA-cam. I just wanted to tell you I appreciate that very much. Don't stop being a great editor with your thoughtful and enlightening analyses, Ray.
And now Lawbreakers is going to be shut down, with no end-of-life program. Can you please make a video about dead games; about how publishers and even developers will render games unplayable? I still go back and mess around in CS:S or Half Life 2 Deathmatch because there are still private servers. If multiplayer games don't allow private servers, then shutting down the official servers effectively kills the game. Only in the gaming industry are we okay with buying a product, knowing full well that eventually the person who sold us that product will take it away. What do you think is going to happen to Hearthstone eventually? How about any given MOBA? How about your favorite MMO? Eventually, the plug gets pulled, and the consumer is the one who gets screwed. Please Raycevick, help raise awareness for dead games. This needs to be talked about.
This is the kind of content G4 should've tried to produce and keep on their channel back in the day. I'm glad there's at least a place for things of this quality on UA-cam.
Man, this is what's called being old. I don't even see the gameplay anymore behind all those particle effects, blurs, buffs, distortions etc. I want my good old UT2004 low res textures :D
These videos are all phenomenal. Ever since I found your first video, I always come out with a fresh idea and perspective from the very analytical style you put forward - keep up the good work.
The quality is too dam high! I miss the old Raycevick who was reviewing Halo ODST and justified its price back in the day lol I have a few things to say about your latest video. To start, I do not know what kind of editing steroids you are using, but man this video was very enjoyable to watch! The transitions were amazing, the music used fit so well with your narration and visuals. Your transition slides to represent the start of each review were so dam awesome. I know they are some what simple, but I loved how it organized the video so well and how they looked like they belonged and not out of place while having cool music and effect. And one of my most favorite scenes was how you represented the lack of player base on Reflex. It is nice to see a visual to make that impact to show that its empty instead of just saying "its low on players". I have really loved your latest videos due to making me think of trying stuff out of my comfort zone. You have challenged me with your scripts to move on and get out the box that I have been in as far as gaming, because seeing you enjoy all these different kinds of games has made me also "revamp" my gaming experiences, and I have to personally thank you for that. I will probably be trying if not one, but all these arena games even though I have never touched the genre. As always man, I am so happy and proud to be a supporter of yours and will continue to do so. I felt such excitement for your 100k as I waited there with my phone to ensure I got the live count for your, I have never had that kind of invested effort or emotion with any one else probably on any platform. (BTW thanks for using my live count clip that meant a lot to me lol). Before I write a novel on your comment section ill cut it short by keeping it simple, keep doing what you are doing! Because it is just simply amazing! P.S The 100k chicken or duck question was my question!! lol
I don't agree with the 'nowhere near'. gameplay is all there. and there are more than enough mutators if you don't like some part of the gameplay like speed or weapon balance. feel free to respond with a view point. :)
The sheer amount of placeholder assets, unfinished maps and messy weapon balance speaks for itself. It's far from complete whether the UT gameplay is there or not.
But its definitely a part of the 'return of the arena shooters' or so i feel. No reason to not talk about it. some of the competitive matches I have seen (duels) give me that arena feel.
This video breaks my heart now. Thankfully Quake Champions is experiencing a bit of a cult revival. It's bumped in the past few months. My personal favorite currently is Warfork, it's got like 30 players a day and most of the players are in the EU meaning a lot of games are 100 ping, but when you get a game going it's incredible.
LaCr0 QC isn't dead. id aren't really marketing it yet and the game has changed alot for the better in recent months since the start of 2018. If you perpetuate this negativeness it seems to the players. How about arena shooter fans for once actually support a game instead of trying to shit on it. Its not a genre that will become mainstream but atleast it has the ability to have a community that's active and not one that spends it's days with memories and nostalgia to fall back on.
LaCr0 I expect Quake Champions to rise in popularity once it is actually released. Some people wouldn't buy a game that is in beta / early access, some others wouldn't pay for a game that will eventually become free to play, and others don't even know it exists. Once it gets released, is F2P, and they start to market it, I don't see why it wouldn't get more players. I personally was avoiding to buy it simply because is a early access and I'm against paying to be a beta tester, but I started playing it at the free weekend and even at it's current state it is an amazing game totally worth paying for, and I didn't had any trouble finding players with a similar skill level. It also doesn't take too much time finding a match, only a few minutes. I have been playing it everyday since then and if it were released as a F2P much more people would get into it.
Every one of your videos is interesting and extremely well put together and they never fail to broaden my view of video games and teach me something about them.
So, it's 2018 and Reflex is as dead as ever and Lawbreakers is even more dead. Reflex has a 24 hour peak of 25 people vs Lawbreaker's 17 people. Considering the lack of hype or marketing for Quake Champions I doubt it will do that that much better. Somewhat better yes, thanks to Bethesda's marketing budget, but not much. Arena shooters will stay dead.
Quake Champions is doing alright. Not great, but better than it was, and certainly better than these other games, which isn't that bad considering it hasn't even released yet.
You deserve much more subscribers. PS: I loved that swing bug in GTA 4 at the beginning, me and my friend would try all kinds of vehicles to see who can fly the furthest

It is funny how different your experiences with quake champions differed so much from mine. I have always found that the squishy characters dominated sacrifice because you could use your speed to take potshots on the defenders and run "souls" faster than the new players could keep up with. Duel I found engaging mostly because you had to learn how to gain momentum sooner and you had to work harder to secure the victory. I do agree that the current duel maps (not the ones just patched in) suck cause they are too big. The new ones appear to be specifically designed for duel and that's good. From my experience, the Nailgun pretty much exists for squishy characters to deal with the tanks at a range so they won't die in LG duels. But it sucks at everything else.
Lawbreakers isn't an arena shooter. It just has movement comparable to older shooters like Quake and UT. I always thought arena shooters had equal (or relatively equal starts), pick ups weapons and power ups. I would categorize arena shooters as such ( I would like constructive criticism of my classifications) - Old School Arena Shooters: Quake, Unreal Tournament, Reflex and few others. These shooters have high TTK, weapons on map, fast movement, high jump height and power ups on map. Characters do not regenerate health. Characters may have dis-equal stats, which come at a cost, e.g. fast characters have low health, etc. These games are/were highly competitive, with a steep learning curve and high skill gap. These games helped build e-sports. - Quake Champions would still fit into this group, despite the powers. Plus the game will have a classic mode. - Goldeneye-esque: Goldeneye 007, 007 Nightfire, Perfect Dark, Timesplitters and a few others. Movement speed varies from slow to high. Oddly, in some of these games (PD and Timesplitters), characters can't jump . Weapons and power-ups are on map. Maps have no emphasis on verticality, due to a lack of jumping. No health regeneration. Characters may have dis-equal stats, that come at cost. E.g. the monkey in Timesplitters is super fast and small, but has extremely low health. These games are not very competitive, and were the go to casual shooter, before the Call of Duty- Era. - Halo-esque Shooters: Halo (With Reach and 4 being psuedo-arena shooters), Star Wars: Republic Commando, and to some extent Crysis 2 and 3, plus others. Weapons are on map. Map power-ups are also present. Characters have moderate to fast movement speed, more recent games incorporate sprinting. Health regeneration is present, and health pick ups are often absent. Jump height is modest to high. TTK bridges oldschool arena shooters and newer military shooters. These games also may or may not incorporate clambering. Halo 1-3, and 5 have established themselves as e-sports, while accessible, the skill gap is large. - Half-Life-esque arena shooters: Half-Life series and First person Red Faction games, plus others. Characters have high health, with long TTKs. Weapons are on map and power-ups are present. Players rely on pickups for health. These games have similar properties to old school arenas shooters, but are more grounded, with decreased speed and jump height. While not always seen as highly competitive, games like Half-life 1/2, have long lasting deathmatch communities. - Third Person Gears of War: Characters have relatively high health, but standard movement is slow. Health is regained via regeneration, and downs are present. Base movement speed while slow, is supplemented by sprinting, and extremely fast movement can be achieved by sliding and wall bouncing. A cover system is present, but cover is also used to enhance movement of the player, via sliding, mantling and wall bouncing. Weapons are on map, but no power-ups are present. This series is highly competitive, with a large skill gap, and a steep learning curve. Gears is also played competitively at the e-sport level. Any other games that could be considered arena shooters? Do you agree with my general classifications?
I would consider Arms of Telos, Warsow, Xonotic, and Diabotical arena shooters. Arms Of Telos looks fucking amazing. CTF was always my favorite gamemode. Oh, and Tribes.
It is kinda unfortunate, that arena shooters can't gain a strong multi-platform presence like they did in the past. I forgot about Tribes, since I sadly never got around to playing any titles in the series.
Arena shooters are defined as Quake/UT-like games and the only thing that is universally common in all of them is the importance of resource control and level design which reflects that with complex level structures instead of flat circular amphitheatres. Arena shooters are meant to promote a type of gameplay in where you can hold your ground against the heaviest hitter and fastest bunnyhopper with your strategic sense alone. Basically, raw skill is not everything. Although there are game modes such as clan arena/instagib that focus on that spectrum alone, I would however not define the genre with these modes. Balance and fast pacedness are not defining aspects of the genre. What tends to make arena shooters balanced and fast paced is not a built in mechanic, rather the skill and experience of the players. So if you make a game where every weapon has roughly the same DPS and your running speed is 100km/h, then yeah - you got yourself a fast paced and balanced game. But the arena shooter orientation in it is just an illusion, an approximation to what you want your players to see and experience.
GroinMischief GroinMischief I wouldn't restrict arena shooters only to Quake/UT and Quake/UT-Like shooters. That seems like too narrow of a definition. Those type of shooters are essentially the original Arena Shooters, ignoring Doom death match, which was the template for FPS mp. I myself, however, refuse to accept games like Overwatch, Lawbreakers and Team Fortress as arena shooters. They don't have any emphasis on weapon picks up. Overwatch belongs to the hero shooter sub-genre, which is it self an off shot of class based shooters like Team Fortress. Lawbreakers, is also a class based shooter, with a heavy emphasis on dynamic movement. I also don't see why Titanfall is being called an arena shooter. There are no arena elements in Titanfall. You, do not rely on any map based pick ups in Titanfall. Plus, there is a strong emphasis, on perks, loadouts, and skill gap compression. Titanfall, especially the 2nd is often called a competitive game, when it simply isn't. One game that personally can't even call an arena shooter is Doom (2016). While there was an emphasis on armour, health and power ups, plus high kills, Doom had only one pick up weapon on map. Plus there was hack modules, that acted as timed perks, boosters and powers. Doom (2016), was a chimera of a multiplayer game, that mismatched elements of arena shooter, with skill gap compression from modern twitch shooters like COD. Maybe the game is a chimeric-pseudo arena shooter...... Doom (2016), due to multi-platform release, and relative success, would of been the game to re-cement arena shooter mp. However, due to lacklustre design, poor balance and bad net-coding. Doom (2016), failed to re-ignite old school shooters, as it only delivered on old school gameplay in single player.
But likewise, if the definition is too inclusive you give free pass for too many different kinds of games. For example, if you defined racing games as games that have vehicles in it - you could call Unreal Tourmament and Halo racing games as well. The definition needs to be stricter for the genre to have any real meaning.
After watching this video for the 4th time or so I have to commend the direction you went with at 23:33 . While simple it perfectly conveys the isolation Reflex is experiencing. Bravo
What about Xonotic? It seems like it would also be about as good as Reflex for a classic-style arena shooter, and it still has a decently-sized community. It’s also free and open-source
ShakenFoe I play all the time. this is the paradox that hurts reflex but the only way to fix that is to play the game. You have to love the game to get past the lower playerbase. Besides its only 10 dollars.
Quake Champions still has plenty of players to get a game in a couple of minutes, at least in the EU servers. The wait is longer in ranked. Still alive in 2020!
Another interesting arena shooter is Splitegate. It was resealed recently and is free to play. It uses portals that can be shot on most surfaces. It’s fun for the first few hours.
I didn't like the movement in Lawbreakers at all. The base movement speed didn't feel any different than modern FPS and the advanced movement options felt a little gimmicky. The Low gravity zones felt really slow and floaty to me, which is the opposite of what I want from an arena shooter. I'm not saying it's a bad game, but I think people are over hyping the games speed and movement.
Not gunna lie dude. I love your commentary. The well thought out detail and vocabulary in your writing is great! I seriously love watching, from your stuff on following halo/me, to general game development and your views on the current market
I personally think that we still see elements of the arena shooter in other shooters, I suppose the whole idea of Halo mp was to bring the arena shooter onto consoles. I feel like an emphasis on movement is coming back in most shooters, especially titanfall and destiny.
Man, Lawbreakers... played during the beta, didn't buy the game on release because I was absolutely broke, but the fact that it died still breaks my heart, it was just so much fun.

It's nice to see him succeed, but here's to hoping that his quality doesn't go the way of the dodo like so many other channels that get big.
Found him at 300k. I immediately watched his entire backlog. This is now one of my favorite channels because of the overall feeling of intelligence and polish. I don't see his quality going down anytime soon.

I almost cried when i saw a 29 min video. Made tea, turned off the lights, casting to the TV, speakers on high volume. 29min of pure entertainment gold ahead of me :D Thanks!
Im getting Reflex Rn because of this video, Im gonna get my mates to aswell so we can built up a community, I really love how the game plays, Love your videos
omg you liked my commit , ly bud 🙌🙌🙌😙😙
it will take you a bit to adjust to the mechanics, but youll eventually learn (and the best way to learn is find someone to show you) that the maps are massive playgrounds for movement. you can do wildly awesome jumps.
this doesnt take away from the gameplay at all. in higher levels, some people forego skill movement and just outshoot you with excellent positions. you really can find your own playstyle
Ayman laassri it's my favorite game ever, welcome to the family
I did the same. I've already had my 10 bucks worth of fun, and I shall have much more.
No Quake? It's the original arena shooter (next to UT) and it's free!

Bought Reflex because of this vid
Same :)
This video SURE DIDN'T AGE WELL!!!
Gooseman2k2 haha yeah sadly
Kindof errie watching it in a way
God dude. You've inspired me. Every video you do just gets better and better. Good job my man! I'm only five minutes into it and as always, I'm impressed. Much love my dude keep doing you.

If you'd like, I'll edit it to say something along the lines of being inspired by Rayce without the "creating my own content" line even though he is my main inspiration for doing so and even if you wanted to call it that I don't see what's wrong with letting him know that Ive been doing this because of him.
Onestrandedperson You people who say "Oh man, I love your content so much I made my own stuff!" really aren't being subtle. You're trying to advertise your own channel.
Watching this in 2020, so sad that Lawbreakers died so quickly. I had a blast with it during its brief life, and watching this video brought back happy memories.
absolutely magnificent video
Gotta say, Ray. You're videos are an absolute delight. Keep up the great work! It's truly inspiring.
Thank you so much for mentioning Reflex. It's such a great game, and I'm so sad that there are so few players. Even though I'm in Europe where probably most players are at historically it's still hard to find matches.
Hearing high praise for LawBreakers, knowing now in 2020 that it's been long dead ):
Damn, this is great.
What you said about Gunslinger is true, but it looks like he's the weakest because he has the highest skill ceilling. Devs nerfed him after beta 1 because he was OP if an experienced player used him, so they nerfed him (a bit too much).
Makes sense. Of the two evils, an underpowered character is much less of an issue than an overpowered one. I'm curious to see what they'll do with him in the next update.
yo Raycevick the arena shooters is back
woohoo
Doom 2, Quake, maybe a new Duke Nukem game
He's weak? I get most damage every match in the team. It's all about setting him up, and he can do every single situation like you stated. He feels more flexible than any other character to me. I lean for the battle rifle and the magnum for halo in every situation to great success and was a god as the hunter in destiny so he feels like a blessing to me personally.
BFG for all
I'm very happy that Arena Shooters are finally coming back, I was a huge Quake and UT player back in the day and still play UT2004 actively to this day, it's just so good. Definitely will be trying all these new games out, Lawbreakers looks very promising.
holy shit, I love how reflex looks. I've always been a fan of smooth, simple models with high quality lighting and antialiasing.
I had no idea reflex existed, but it looks epic, thanks for telling me.
And Battle-Royale Happened.
And all of these games are DEAD again.
You should look up correlation and causation...
Modern military shooters are killing it too. :(
attitude in reflex sounds like attitude in any new game, or in any not so popular game/community, for example i have psvita, and everyone in gaming community makes fun of this thing and says that it's not great, and dead (it's dead, yah), but its community on reddit is the most nice and caring people in the internet i've ever seen. same, for example was for me a moba from EA called dawngate, its' community both in game and in the internet was awesome. when community is tight and small and people understand that there are not that much of people to play with, they care about each other much more.
I still play reflex and its a lot of fun
I also play reflex still and i think it may be my favorite game.
Reflex may be my favorite online game.
More people = More assholes. Less people = Less assholes.
I've always had the most fun in tiny communities of
Arena shooters are my favourite types of FPS, this breaks my heart.
One day, Raycevick will be narrating a Planet Earth-esque show called Planet Mars. You're like the nerdy David Attenborough.
I cannot overstate how high the quality of your videos is. Every one explores topics in a depth and fidelity that no other content producer does. You truly are one of a kind Raycevick.
Oh yeah, Raycevick uploads, time to get some popcorn
"the personality of the characters and the world they inhabit." HA-HAHAHAHA-HEHE-HOHOHOHOHAHAHAHA
Watching this video for the second time makes me realize how much I absolutely love your editing, Raycevick. You've got a sense of presentation, pacing, showmanship, and gravitas seldom seen in analysis videos all over UA-cam.

I really appreciate the effort you put into putting out high quality 30 minute videos.
Raycevick is the saviour of UA-cam gaming
I like how you made an effort to present this like a real documentary. Enjoying the quality.
This video makes me scream out my pains.
With games being viewed more as an artform your channel is a natural reaction. every artform needs insider critics. keep up the good work
And now Lawbreakers is going to be shut down, with no end-of-life program.
Accursed Farms vibes from this comment.
I really hope people watch the entirety of your videos, the quality is unparalleled and must be experienced
The death of Lawbreakers hurts me to this day.
This is the kind of content G4 should've tried to produce and keep on their channel back in the day. I'm glad there's at least a place for things of this quality on UA-cam.
This aged well.
Man, this is what's called being old. I don't even see the gameplay anymore behind all those particle effects, blurs, buffs, distortions etc. I want my good old UT2004 low res textures :D
This made me reinstall ut2004.
Originally bought it used from a game store, at some point got the steam version.
Mad fun, especially with mods.
UT2004 was one of my first games. When Halo and CoD came around, I hated it cause it was so damn slow. I miss that feeling hectic speed.
These videos are all phenomenal. Ever since I found your first video, I always come out with a fresh idea and perspective from the very analytical style you put forward - keep up the good work.
The quality is too dam high! I miss the old Raycevick who was reviewing Halo ODST and justified its price back in the day lol
I have a few things to say about your latest video.
P.S The 100k chicken or duck question was my question!! lol
Dude...Your videos are sooo good...Damn right amazing...Well thought out, well structured, perfectly presented.
It is depressing how poorly this aged :(
Great doc! And now I'm one or your Patrons. Loving this channel more and more.
If Lawbreakers was free to play and on every platform, I’m sure it would’ve been a big hit. It still looks like a ton of fun to this day. It’s sad
Your videos are some of the greatest on youtube. I wish more people saw them.
What about the new unreal tournament
Nowhere near finished yet - when its complete or near completion then I think a proper analysis would be well worth it.
Blacbane i cant wait to see another UT :D always loved the franchise
But its definitely a part of the 'return of the arena shooters' or so i feel. No reason to not talk about it. some of the competitive matches I have seen (duels) give me that arena feel.
This video breaks my heart now. Thankfully Quake Champions is experiencing a bit of a cult revival. It's bumped in the past few months.
My personal favorite currently is Warfork, it's got like 30 players a day and most of the players are in the EU meaning a lot of games are 100 ping, but when you get a game going it's incredible.
Watching this in mid 2018 knowing that both lawbreakers and qc is quite dead is saddening.
Ray, you've become the person I come to for game suggestions. Now I'm interested in all three of these games.
QUALITY CONTENT
Its like my whole gaming career lead up to playing Quake Champions.... I'm having a blast, and its great seeing my progression every time I hop on.
Reflex and QuakeWorld the smoothest FPS games I've played and with the friendliest communities too TBH.
You deserve much more subscribers.
PS: I loved that swing bug in GTA 4 at the beginning, me and my friend would try all kinds of vehicles to see who can fly the furthest
Sad that Reflex is kinda... dead (25 players average).

Reflex: the most underrated game of all times. It's a masterpiece!
isn't it just a reskinned q3 cmpa?
this is the kind of professinal gaming commentary I have been looking for all this time
Why is this getting recommended to me years after these games died. LOL
So, why doesn't this guy have more subscribers? This video was great! In depth, well edited and voiced, great sound design...what more do people want? Have a sub, sir!
I mean, 100k is still a lot...but he needs more!
I'll be honest, I didn't even realize you switched to Titanfall in there until you mention "but in Lawbreakers"
Lawbreakers isn't an arena shooter. It just has movement comparable to older shooters like Quake and UT. I always thought arena shooters had equal (or relatively equal starts), pick ups weapons and power ups.
I would categorize arena shooters as such ( I would like constructive criticism of my classifications)
- Old School Arena Shooters: Quake, Unreal Tournament, Reflex and few others.
I enjoy the quality of content you bring and put forth, thanks.
Yeah ... I couldn't really make myself get Reflex with that playerbase. Really sucks, because it looks great. Great job as always.
ShakenFoe I play all the time.
this is the paradox that hurts reflex but the only way to fix that is to play the game.
You have to love the game to get past the lower playerbase. Besides its only 10 dollars.
I played a 4v4 pickup game tonight. It's worth it.
Your content is outstanding, yourself and channels like Gvmers are fantastic sources of info.
Quake Champions still has plenty of players to get a game in a couple of minutes, at least in the EU servers. The wait is longer in ranked. Still alive in 2020!
I'd love a follow up to this to hear where it all went wrong.
I think that if there was a giveaway for Reflex, or if it went F2p or something like that, it would rise in popularity
its only 10 dollars so its worth a try
I mean, Xonotic is free, so you might want to give that a try
Another interesting arena shooter is Splitegate. It was resealed recently and is free to play. It uses portals that can be shot on most surfaces. It’s fun for the first few hours.
The return and quick death of arena shooters*
O M G! You did Snake impression like a big BOSS! :D (your voice is amazing really)
And also, fantastic video, as usual :)
Thanks You for the idea of playing Quake: Champions. 👌
Raycevick, would it be possible to do a video on Serious Sam? I feel like people don't give that series enough credit
At this point I'm not sure if I keep coming back to your videos because of your voice or your content. Keep up the good work!
Very good video
Not gunna lie dude. I love your commentary. The well thought out detail and vocabulary in your writing is great! I seriously love watching, from your stuff on following halo/me, to general game development and your views on the current market
I personally think that we still see elements of the arena shooter in other shooters, I suppose the whole idea of Halo mp was to bring the arena shooter onto consoles. I feel like an emphasis on movement is coming back in most shooters, especially titanfall and destiny.
Perfect as always. I think I might give the Lawbreakers a try when it cames out.
its sucks seeing this video now, a lot of these games died off and even psuedo arena shooters like Halo are struggling
Man, Lawbreakers... played during the beta, didn't buy the game on release because I was absolutely broke, but the fact that it died still breaks my heart, it was just so much fun.
