- 6.0 Diesel Ford Rough Running
In this video I have a 6 Liter Powerstroke that came in with the concern of after getting fuel started running rough and stalled, then had a hard start. Towed in with that concern. I will walk you through the steps I take to diagnosing this problem as well as show you how to repair it. Let's get going and get this diesel back on the road.

Love these troubleshooting videos . Very informative.
Thank you I appreciate it and thanks for watching
I didn’t know that a diesel could suck fuel like that. Very interesting, thanks Tony.
Crazy huh. Thanks for watching Steve
Very good video, thanks! One thing I noticed. The Oil filter housing cap is incorrect. It appears to be a after market cap. Those will sit too tall which in turn causes the filter to sit high opening the return drain valve. This allows the oil to drain back after engine shut off. I would recomment changing the cap to the OEM lower profile cap.
Thank you very much I appreciate that, I am aware of this but have no control over the customer putting on the correct cap. Thank you for watching.
Excellent video! Great production value!
Thank you very much that is very nice to hear. I appreciate you watching.

Having the bad fuel pump would that cause the truck to stall at all ? Having a problem don’t know if it’s related but also when getting to operating temp of around 184 the truck when coming to a stop will die out at times starts back up at times doesn’t for like 3 minutes but then will and drive fine
It could cause that, message me on Instagram
Thank you for your video.
My old 6.0 had two plugs on the hfcm. The new has only one.
What the second plug is for?
What would happen if i don't connect the second plug on the cfcm?
The new pump did away with one of the connectors. should come with another little jumper harness from Ford.
Just curious why you replaced the whole unit not just the pump itself?
That's how you. Replace it. I've done a lot of them. Thanks for watching
I’ve just replaced the pump the housing shouldn’t need replacing every time.
How did you rule out the fuel pressure regulator up at the secondary fuel filter housing?
I was testing fuel pressure out of fuel pump and had 0 psi fuel pressure indicating nothing coming out of fuel pump. Thanks for watching
@@NutsandBoltswithToneI've got a fuel pressure tester on my 6.0 .I'm only showing 20psi.any ideas?
I have a cts 3 and my 6.0 is not throwing codes. It starts up but it idles rough and dies after a couple minutes. I was driving on the highway and it started to choke up lose power. I could only go up to 55
Thanks for watching. Message me on my Instagram and I can try to help u out.
Can I use a pressure tester off the upper fuel filter cap on my E-Series and get the same results? I had injectors done about 50,000 miles ago and I'm having some intermittent rough idle issues kind of like a gas rig with bad coil packs also highway speed, when it clears up it runs great, I'm positive there's no mechanical issue 359,000 miles.
Yes there is two ways to do it, one you get a test fitting off fuel filter housing. I have it but it is a pain in the butt. Here is a link to that tool from my Amazon store

Here is a link to a kit to test right out of fuel filter cap

How much boost is normal on a stock setup? Have seen some say 28 psi
@@hinds90 max boost I think I've seen on stock truck was 28psi. Average around 22 to 25 maybe
I have a 2004 ford f750 caterpillar disel. My truck has not been started for 2 years. I just fired it up & have no power steering. Do you know where I should begin to start diagnosing the problem?
Ps pump
I replaced mines 2 weeks ago and pricing my truck kinda flickers but stays running at idle, the lift pump is starting to make crazy high pitch noise
Oh damn that sucks about the lift pump. Sounds like it most likely going out especially if it is noisy.
My fuel cup fills up but it empty right back down. Can you tell me the possible issues.

Mine does everything your saying but doesn’t throw a code
Message me on Instagram I'll help you out. Thanks for watching
@@NutsandBoltswithTone mine runs amazing but after about 30 minutes I have to pull over and can tell it’s not getting fuel I’m very certain it’s the fuel pump in the tank curious on what u think

I know diesels have glow plugs that’s all I know 🙁
Lol yeah they do, well not all of them. Cummins have air intake heater, no glow plugs. Where are entered the engine or passes through a heat grid to heat up the air. Thanks for watching
Nice video Sir! Are you replacing the fuel pump (the first one before the injection pump)? Sorry English isn't my mother tongue! Thank you!
On this truck the only fuel pump is on frame which I am replacing. This engine has lift pump on frame then it uses high pressure oil to get high injection pressures.
@@NutsandBoltswithTone great! Got it! Keep up the great work!
