I finally made it a priority to visit Iceland. On my first day in this incredible country I explore the famous Reykjavik church and surrounding downtown area, then the Keflavik peninsula before making my way to some of the more iconic waterfall locations of southern Iceland.

Great video and photos. It's been over 30 years since I've been to Iceland. It hasn't changed much apart from the crowds of people. I think we parked the Land Rover where you where standing at Skogafoss and I may have a 5x4 of it somewhere if it survived the Great plumbing flood. Looking forward to the next video 😁🏔
Haha oh man, I just experienced a flash of terror thinking about some home disaster ruining my negatives 🫠 It must have been something seeing these landscapes back then, seems the crowds are just a fact of life in many places these days.
Tough choice on the digital vs. film. I have to say the Canon images were stunning, and all the images are spectacular. I'm starting to have some regrets about unloading my 5D iii and lenses. Chris, these images are incredible. I felt like I was there...What a great adventure. Thanks for taking us along.

Great start to the trip Chris. Some wonderful images. I thought your skies turned out fine in the film images. I think digital makes us feel like everything needs to be perfect to extract detail and tones everywhere, but with film you just have to live with the limitations of the medium. Not sure if I'll ever make it there but Iceland is definitely on the bucket list.
Thanks Larry, great point there. Those film limitations are a double edged sword of sorts I suppose. I hope you do make it to Iceland, its quite the amazing place!
Great video Chris as usual. Your new camera looks a great piece of kit......loved the waterfall shot that you took with it with the 6x12 back. The "camper " looked a little light on insulation, bet you were soaked wiith condensation in the morning.

Hey Paul, yeah sorry about that, seems UA-cam went on a rash of burying my videos for some viewers for whatever reason. I’ve had a few tell me I wasn’t showing up for them, might have to work on a way to get around that..
@@ChrisDarnell the odd thing is, you didn't come up in searches. That's why I checked Patreon, and I guess you aren't double/cross posting there... Anyway, it was nice to blast through 5-6 videos, and I really liked the southern Utah stuff.
Hope you're dried out by now Chris. LOL Ektar really handled those scenes quite well and the color is terrific. Have to say, the two digital shots I liked the best were from the two waterfalls, each shot filled with just the flowing water. Amazing. Looking forward to your continued Icelandic videos.

Love the falls images at 7:03 and 7:39, unique takes on a popular location. And I'm glad to see the 5D4 making an appearance again! Super hardy setup that's perfect for abusive environments like this

Thanks for inspiring video. I think both the Ektar images was superb. My experience is that it is a bit difficult to find portrait compositions in 6x12 but yours was great 👍
Thanks Mattias! Agreed, I think vertical compositions in panoramic formats are difficult to compose for sure, but I had a sneaking suspicion a waterfall would be a good fit for it. Glad you liked it!
Loved the video and the stills. The Iceland tourism bureau should cut you a check. Loved the second waterfall. Not sure if I liked the digital or analog better. I think if I was going to buy a print, I would take a more detailed look, but chances are, I would choose based more on wall space requirements.

Really sublime shots. It looks like a great trip. Kudos for schlepping the view camera to the ends of the earth. Only one double exposure and no blank frames? You did real good!
The UA-cam gods seem to be angry with you. This never showed up in my feed, under any category. You apparently need to work harder to propitiate them. Did you try chucking a virgin into one of those volcanos?
Oh I've got more mistakes coming up.. haha. Although the videos are out of order this was actually the first trip with the 6x12 back, and I had a lot of "discoveries" we can say. 😆 I could definitely see in the analytics that the almighty algorithm was upset with me, seems that tends to be the case when I go too long between uploads. 😕 I'm considering starting a newsletter to help fix that...
Good results there with the Digital portrait shots I'd have thought you'd go 5x4 I'm off 3x2, that said the 2x1 film vertical works well. The film shot at the end is perfect for me.
I was so close to going last year but every time I see the hoardes of people I keep adding ticks to the box of "I'll never go"
Thanks Andrew! That’s a good point, cropping to 5x4 would sit better next to all my large format images for sure. I’ve been sticking with the 3x2 lately when I shoot ultra-wide though, just because I like to lean into the lens distortion a bit. True there were definitely crowds in places during this trip, but that seems to be an issue just about everywhere these days.. 🤷🏻♂️
Great to see a new video Chris. That seems like an awesome trip. The Skogafoss shots were awesome. I suppose there are enough english speakers there that language is not a huge problem? Or do you speak Icelandic...
Thanks Philip! I did try to learn a bit of Icelandic before going but.. oh boy. That's not an easy language to learn at all, haha. Fortunately I had no trouble at all getting around Iceland in English, everybody I interacted with was bilingual and quite friendly about it as well.
So appreciate your efforts at bringing quality video. You make me smile. Water everywhere. Did you bring enough towels to keep all your equipment dry? What is with all the scaffolding inside the church? Thanks, Steve
I think I got more of a drenching than the poor cameras did haha, but they dried out pretty easily in the van with the bag open. I don't know exactly what they were doing with the scaffolding, there was a team in there doing some renovation work or something but last I heard it's all gone now
Wrap a cable release around the front standard? Nice shots, all the same.

Got about halfway through and thought, ah man, I wish he had his film camera and then i see you in the drone shot setting it up. Nice! (I'm not even really a film shooter, but I was really curious to see how it would look)
