- Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Ex-Obscura, Ex-Necrophagist) Alter Magnitudes (Alkaloid) drum playthrough.
Hannes comments: "This is an instrumental version of our song "Alter Magnitudes". I just took the vocals out for the video to make the drums more clear - which makes sense in a drum video, doesn't it? This is probably the only tune on our album which can be considered 'tech-death', but the technicallity makes it a perfect song for a drum play-through. It was written by our guitarist Christian Muenzner and not just demands a high level performance on the drums - the guitars and bass go crazy too. But most important: I really dig the songs riffs and melodies."

He's got speed, power, and groove; a technical powerhouse.
maybe this song isn't the best example of groove, but he definitely has it
he hits the ride cup along with the rhythm of the guitar leads. Just because it doesn't groove like a funk song doesn't detract from the nuances he puts in there...
Groove is really something else (listen to the breakdown at 2:10: no life there).
@@TCROCKS666Sounds groovy to me
You can see his precision on the drum heads and his kick precision is unbelievable. I mean the beater angle/ return, everything is exactly the same every time. He's a legend of course for a reason.
Extremely powerful blasts bro
Damn, that was a well placed swing fill at 2:14 . This dude has SERIOUS chops!
The strength of the snare hits is the stuff of legends
Hannes is already quantized and compressed BEFORE the mix and master.
What a magnificent tone and dynamics, he must be one of the easiest drummers to record.
Thats right, you can tell by his dynamics and movements that he has a constant and even playing.
these days, he records himself :)
God that guitar part while he plays the skank beat..... My soul
I’ve never been a fan of the rat-a-tat snare, but I can definitely state this guy can play. Such precision.
I love the chord shapes and progression in the chorus.
Same. It sounds great.
whoa..the guitar melodies are beautiful. i never thought that i will find beautiful melodies in such an extreme music.
+Bugar Nugroho Have you ever heard the album Epitaph by Necrophagist!?! Hannes Grossmann did the drums on that album, it's the most classical orchestral melodic guitar/drum work I've ever heard, friggin changed my life.
+Bugar Nugroho Try... Red Letter Day from Interlooper.
You can thank me later, after you get yourself together from the song ;)
+Bugar Nugroho listen to incurso by spawn of possession there are some great melodies in that album
Welcome to Technical Death Metal!
Bugar Nugroho Buckethead
Videos like this make me wanna jump on the kit and just play all day, Hannes is insane!
One of the hardest working drummers ever!! Can't wait for the new solo album, I'm so stoked
The little fill on the snare at 3:18 is played on the toms in the album. THIS SHIT IS REAL
How does that matter?
@@vitunpelle602 Probably meaning that he's not using either audio from the original recording or some pre-programmed drum track that he's pretending to play.
@@noahsmith4148 But judging from the sound, this playthrough was recorded at the studio where the album was made, that would mean that the drums were likely also mixed and mastered for this video. This video could even be one of the takes they were doing for this song, but didnt use.
@@vitunpelle602 That is very true. Good point I hadn't thought of.
@@vitunpelle602 not likely, though. The drums sound like they're being absolutely pounded on and this means it's more likely it's Hannes Grossmann
The Refrain of this song ist just sooooooo beautiful! I get goosebumps everytime
1:45 The intense look on his face...
He looks afraid of himself
Excellent! Way too tight to be human lol
He's so precise, there's just a dot showing where he hits on the snare.
Whenever anyone wants to discuss current metal drumming, this guy, every time. Necrophagist back in '04, Obscura, Blotted Science, this..........
The Stillborn One is one of his best.
Necrophagist all record are dope....comparing 2020....but damn ...
There only 2 or 3 I would put in or near Hannes category
@@fuzzydunlop0507 Hmm, would any of them be a Navene Koperweiss or Sebastian Lanser? Or the fellow from Equipoise? Would love to see your list. Might find some new music. :) Prost m8s.
@@kerrybay7995 you are correct, Lanser is one, Romain Goulon for sure, and David Diepold has been climbing my list for a while now. He covered Dave Weckl years ago and he's covered some incredibly difficult songs over the years.
In no order and don't know what tier I'd place them but further down would be the drummer for Inferi, Stephen Moore I think is his name, he is creative and fun to watch. And while not as technical and not as versatile, there are some incredibly fast guys out there, Eugene Ryabchenko? (Forgive the spelling) from Fleshgod Apocalypse.
the undisputed king of tech death drumming
@1:47 when your body has taken over 😂😂😂
Oh boi these blast beats just rip my face off. unbelievably clean and tight.
my favvorite extreme drummer
Damn beast! Amazing!
So amazing. Love Alkaloid. Hannes is the best.
I,m not gonna lie, out of all of the drum sets i,ve ever heard anyone play on, i think this one has the best overall sound out of any set. Tama #1
This is mindblowing.
The snare sounds awesome!
Great drumming
this album is my favorite 2015 album by so far !!
I've listening it at least twice a day, I really love it.
I would like a Lot if you could make a playthrough of Sol Omega or Carbon Phrases.
The old drum kit he used for nechrophagist on the background
A beast!!!, awesome drummer, greetings from Ecuador!!!
Love this works.
OMFG!!! This is just... wow...
Holy fck this is dope asf great playthrough you are da fckn man
And that's how a real german gentleman do blast beats!
This guy is a truly amazing drummer!
Perfect blast beat very clean
Brilliant drumming!
In these sequences where you might think he just beats the drums mindlessly and super fast, it is crazy to recognize that he inserts these slight variations by hitting the middle of the hat every few hits - apart from that i really love the breaks, where he changes the beat in split-seconds!
Excellent performance
Most powerful blastbeats in the game. Only Derek Roddy can compete
Ehem, the guy from Pig Destroyer destroys them. He hates his snare
Mike Smith from suffocation
THINKS HE'S GOOD AT DRUMS.
IS.
Wow, that was great.
Holy fudge this is so tight
simply the best one
amazing.
With the way he moves, I thought for a second that I forgot the speed at x1.25 on!
Quiero darte mis felicitaciones por ti thrash bien logrado, impecable, exacto, con feeling. Excelente ejecución y síntonía.
own them all grossmann
Great drumming! Love that face at 1:45 !!!
glorious!
that stick height when he is blasting is ridiculous
I saw him live with Necrophagist twice, and both times he was the only drummer who was blasting with an audible snare. Hannes is insane.
Machine
un genioooo!!!!
I love using this song for practicing my blasts
was waiting all the video for him to use those rototom... never happened ^^, anyway crazy damn good playing !
holy dimpled snare head batman....
Ça c'est du sport ! 😀🙏🙏
I love Hannes Grossman, the only drummer who's stuff interests me.
Check out Aric Improta ( Night Verse), Bobby Jarzombek, or even Morgan Agren...all of them incredible drummers
Watching this gave me a tendinitis !..... On the neck !
La Bestia.
How does this not have more views?
Jeeeezzzzuuuusssss!!!! 🤯
#BlastGoals
Skills-a-plenty this guy.
maravilhoso
Badass.
Wow
Love how the snare has a slight depression where he hits EVERY SINGLE TIME.
funny thing is that that actually is worse in terms of sound as I believe a snare head with a lot of small mini dents over a large surface vibrates better than one with one big dent. so i guess you could say he's too good for his own good lol
Love Muenzner's playing HG and Bobby Jarzombek are on another level. Both have played/are playing in bands with Ron Jarzombek. Check out Spastic Ink the mad data race off the Ink Complete album...some of the fastest most technical drumming out there . The drummers that mix tech death with heavy prog metal, are in a different world
real drumming, no synths!
YES man.
Hardest Blasts in the game..!!
AUUUGHHHHHH
Hannes is a Fucking MONSTER!! See, I'm a musician, a guitarist primarily. Can play bass as well & my (non-clean) vocals aren't bad. Usually when I listen to music, I do it with a musician's ear & hear all the elements which go into the piece; most of the time I will hone in on the guitars a bit more than the other instruments. However, when it's ANYTHING Hannes is a part of (even if I didn't see his name in the line-up or whatever before listening to it) my focus goes straight to that drumming! Even when the other instruments are out of this world, as they are in Alkaloid's music, I lock onto the drumming; it takes effort on my part to shift just SOME focus away from the drumming and give the composition as a whole more focus. I have to admit, that's actually quite a feat commanding that much of my attention on an instrument I have only (poorly) dicked around on occasionally in music stores. His "solo" album Apophenia will surely be on my personal Album Of The Year list for 2019. Jeff Loomis is featured on the first track, but I didn't realize it till I saw his name on the track-list. So... there you go. Jeff's goddamn unstoppable & (if she'd let me) I would pimp out my wife to him if he would give me some private guitar lessons. That's not a standing offer, she already shot down that idea. :-D
I put on some Hannes Grossmann & it's like I'm Animal the Muppet drummer & they gave him the Googly-Eyes of Cookie Monster! I take off my wristwatch so I can air drum like someone possessed: makes for great endurance conditioning, as any stick-slinger can attest to. Suffice it to say that without question, Hannes is easily my favorite drummer of all time & for good reason. I'm friends with a few drummers & if you mention Hannes Grossmann they simply smile & shake their head like, "Holy fuck, that guy's unbelievable/he can't be human." but they can't get the words out.
Dude's some kind of fucking cross between a cephalopod & a perpetual motion machine trapped in human form! Not to mention his production work on releases is top-notch & sound great: they have a balanced, organic sound & reflect professional work. Damn, I sound like I have a man-crush or some shit. He's just a fucking BEAST!
Hey Rudinger! Seems there's a fellow here. :D
.. and let us thank god for the guy who invented the compressor :D
SWEET instrumental version...finna add my own vocals
Travis Hunt The best part about hearing this song without vocals to me is like if time machines were real and we could take this playthrough back to 2013 everyone woulda been like ZOMG NEW OBSCURA SO HYPE MANY WOW SWAG
I Hunt For the Leak this probably would of been chris's song for sure on the new scura album. but probably alot slower
Probably not too much. It's pretty crazy neat how Steffen managed to record a lot of what's on Omnivium dude....
Maybe not his only one tho. Chris wrote a big chunk I think of Vortex Omnivium AND Transcendental Serenade and I think a fair portion of Septuagint as well
I Hunt For the Leak the credits said he only wrote a few parts of like 3 songs.
Between 2:13 & 2:14 there was a tiny SNARE hit mistake, I caught that quickly, but hey your performance is beyond mankind, cheers, million cheers
Josh Leitzel progressive/technical death metal.
I love how despite this being extreme techincal death metal the 2:07 section could totally fit in a Michael Jackson song

Ricky Gervais is awesome damn
Or the principal from Always Sunny that hires Charlie as the janitor, lmao
That snare head is FUCKED UP! 😂
Sounds SO good though
Is his bass drum non triggered? Not starting a discussion about the usage of triggers.
It just seems like this sound would be attainable without triggers?
I know this is a drumming video showcasing his mighty skills, but who's this guitar player. He's also mighty.
+Paul Daluz christian muenzner
+BOB SAPPSUX thankyou. :-)
Paul Daluz you're welcome ;) well actually there are 3 guitar players in this band I think, but the one people always talk about is Muenzer :P He was in necrophagist and obscura also and I think he's still in spawn of possession but i'm not up to date on his various projects haha but he's good !
+BOB SAPPSUX thanks guys. yeah that Muenzer guy is a badass. Im gonna stay in the loop with these guys. Obscura has a badass new album out too. For a long time I was a die hard Melodeth guy. But lately the tech/death stuff has been impressing me.
Good lord
This song could be perfectly made by Obscura with no doubt
It was
Chris left because of his focal dystonia and he hated how much the band was intended to operate and present itself more like a corporation as opposed to the music being the main focus.
Its complicated and weird lol
people want to make fucking millions with tech death bands nowadays. Money fucking up everything.
DFCZ The fuck? That's not even relevant OR true in almost all cases. Are you high.
James Peterson quoting yourself: "hated how much the band was intended to operate and present itself more like a corporation as opposed to the music being the main focus".. I know a several bands who think this way.
You extrapolated a money focus on that. I meant other aspects of a corporation besides raising the bottom line bro. But I don't blame you now and get what you mean... and I wouldn't be surprised if Steffen had an attitude towards that aspect that made/makes him hard to work with
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK me running that was mint
jackhammer blasts! \m/ \m/
this is some crazy shit
think they'll do another Alkaloid album?
George Tsiros It will be released on 18th May.
ladyloreia HOLY CHRIST ON A POGO STICK!!! :D
George Tsiros Season of Mist posted the stream earlier today (Liquid Anatomy is the name of the album) it's great :)
Happier Obscura
Your snare looks like one of Deadshots target dummies :D
this guy is fuckin brutal
Holy shit!!! I really like that one part where he is playing the drums!!
is someone trying to sleep on the couch to the left?!
I thought I was the only one whose pinky naturally extends when blasting.
Matthew lillard? Anyone? Lol, great playing by the way ;)
Easy peasy.
A HORSE OF A MAN!!!
can you mail me the drum track for a guitar cover?
2:14 wow i barely noticed... hit with one stick on the other just a lil bit by accident
