    Rolex wasn't Luxury in the 1970's that came After the quartz crisis.

    • @osrsw6450
      @osrsw6450 3 роки тому +3

      @No One Basically in the 60s-70s the quartz watch was invented, which is the same kind of watch you're probably wearing today (one with a battery). These battery powered watches were not only much cheaper to make but also MUCH More accurate at keeping time. This basically made the "old" mechanical watches obsolete. A lot of traditional watchmakers that had been in business for literal centuries went bankrupt because of the invention of the quartz watch, which is where it got the name "quartz crisis"
      The Royal Oak is often credited with single handedly paving the road for today's luxury watches to make a comeback as it was the first "luxury sports watch". Before then a Rolex etc was a tool watch and not actually considered a luxurious watch.
      Because it was a steel watch and not precious metal like gold or platinum like most expensive watches were back then and priced at around what would be 20k$ nowadays, many people laughed at the idea at first, which is why it sold only 1000 pieces in 3 years.
      To this day a 20$ Casio will still be much more accurate at keeping time than even the most expensive of mechanical watches (Richard Mille, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, ...)

    Nah bruh Royal Oak is a dope watch but the pinnacle is Patek, FP Journe, or A Lange & Sohne that's what real watch collectors want

      @@gabrielhutschneker9159 you can't be serious FP journe is the equivalent of buying Picasso paintings while he was still alive. Even if you buy the cheapest $15,000 quarts FP in 10 years that things going to be your retirement fund.

    I’d prefer something original by independent watch makers. Harry Winston, Ferdinand Berthoud, Hajime Asaoka etc. for that kind of money. AP is way overhyped. When you can buy an exact replica of a luxury watch like AP for $300 that watch isn’t worth 200 times more.
