- At Derby's 28th Tomb Raider celebration, a very special world-first event took place. Raidercast had the honour of interviewing TWO Lara Croft voice actresses live at the same time. Jonell and Judith, Lara and Lara.

I loved Jonell as Lara ever since I played AOD. I wish they would call her back. She brought so much energy and she brought Lara to life in my opinion. Keeley will always be nostalgic for me. But Jonell is Lara's voice to me, now.
I agree so much! Her voice is so beautiful and unique and has an edge that fits Lara's attitude, especially as they wrote it in Angel of Darkness.

Unified Lara should be totally about it, since they’re going to make Lara cry a lot and be whiny through the whole game, at least they should do it on Jonell’s voice. Would love to see this other side to her as Lara, have the sarcasm and attitude but also the kindness and more emotional part that we’ve already known in the reboot trilogy, a balance.
Hearing the original voice actresses say the lines from the games really puts a smile on my face. It's a bit sad we don't have this Lara anymore.

If Shelley had been with them it would have been the whole classic cast. All three were great.
All 3 of the original actresses are iconic. When I was little, it was Janelle’s voice that was the standout for me.
Judith's american accent is absolutely hilarious! And when she said the line I had to contain my excitement so I didn't scream in the middle of work lol

I can't imagine what a "pinch me" moment it must be to have grown up listening to these two incredible women's voices in your favorite gaming franchise and then, years later, to find yourself sitting on stage in front of a group of hardcore fans, interviewing them both. Fantastic chat, Chris. Judith and Jonell seem like a lot of fun and I love how game they were for all of the questions from you and the audience. And yes, I got chills hearing them recite their iconic lines 🥹

When I met Jonell afterwards and told her of my personal experiences during the pandemic, she actually stood up, hugged me and said “goodbye gorgeous.” So basically I was called gorgeous by Lara Croft! 🤗🥰🫂
Its great to see the voices behind Lara & the positivity they feel from her. Talking of the remastered Tomb Raider, Embracer really should hand the franchise over to the team behind the remasters & continue from where the original games left off.

What a coup to host this interview, Chris! These two got to play Lara at her most badass and they both seem like such sweet, lovely, funny easy-going people. I had no idea that Judith Gibbons had to audition for TLR. And I can't believe David Bailey was so inappropriate to her. What a creep. But it's so nice to hear how positive their experiences with the fandom have been. They seem so self-effacing but I hope they realise how massive and important a part they played in creating the most iconic video game character of all time. They really did shape my childhood.
Getting them to read lines that they didn't originally record for their own games was a fan's DREAM. Amazing how easily they seemed to be able to slip back into the voice again. And I would literally pay money to hear Judith say "You unsavoury little c*nt". It also makes me happy to know that Jonell and Judith both appreciate Lara's gay fandom ❤
This was really fun! As I’m from Italy, I first experienced Lara’s voice through Elda Olivieri (which I recommend giving a listen to as she was such a great casting), but I’ve always played TR in English for the past decade, so these two women really hold such a special place in my heart, they both represent Lara’s essence in a way. Voice can really make a character and they both portray Lara beautifully ❤

Oh my god! I´m from Uruguay, and there is a lot of information I´d like to know about Raidercast. For example, by the look of this interview and this two famous ladies we love so much, it seems Raidercast is an important thing. Where a you settled? How did you managed to arrange this interview? How could you assemble a team to make this posible? What do you do for a living? How much time do you spend playing the games? What do you think about the last reboot? Too many question, I know. But I think I´m not the only one who wants a video about you, Chris. Thanks a lot for all the material you make, videos and podcasts. You keep alive one of the most beloved franchises in videogames history. When I remember a 15 years old version of me, playing for hours Tomb Raider IV with my little sister sitting on my lap... Oh, my. Time flies. P.D.: Tomb Raider IV remastered in february! OH MY GOOOOOOD! Thank you so much, Chris. I mean it.

Their voices are such a big part of those games.
Judith gave Lara a more "Mature" vibe and Jonell gave Lara a more "Girly" Vibe (Love both regardless the remasters are fantastic)
I hope that when the remasters come out, Aspyr and Crystal recruit Shelley, Judith and Jonell to record the full games each so we can change voices. They could even include outtake lines. Aspyr and Crystal, what are you waiting for? It's the perfect opportunity to bring back the trinity.

*I like how different the two of them made Lara sound. With Judith giving her a more posh and upper class accent, tying her to her aristocratic roots whereas Jonell made her sound more Cockney and working class (Similar to how Shelly made her sound) almost as if she was a character in EastEnders.*

Ah yes. Despite Tomb Raider being story game, it didn't have much lines in the first games. Today, it's unthinkable to make a game with just few lines from a protagonist. Most Lara's lines were when she wasn't in action. Mostly in cutscenes. When Tomb Raider got reboot with Legend, it became a game where Lara talks and comments on everything she sees. And now we have second reboot/third timeline, where Lara talks so much. Who would have thought that games would become so cinematic-y back then.
