- Sonic Origins Plus is a $10 DLC for Sonic Origins and you can now buy the game + the DLC for $39.99. It adds 12 game gear titles, a playable Amy in Sonic 1,2,3 & CD and you can now play as Knuckles in Sonic CD. But is it worth buying for owners of Sonic Origins? And does it improve the overall package?

It’s a shame that they didn’t use the SMS versions of all of the game gear games. That’s would of solve a lot of the issues

Tbf, not all the game gear games had SMS versions, and even the sms had some bugs that the game gear games fixed

@@kirisuna19 Even if the hardware was basically the same, Master System versions did have higher resolutions. I think they should have been included if for no other reason than as a piece of historical interest. It's always a bit of a shame when a collection doesn't try to have multiple versions of things, especially in cases were it was different hardware or languages.

I think that not adding the master system versions of game gear games is a dumb idea because the vision of the public will only be seeing the handheld version.
Where be sonic and knuckles? Game gear also in another menu with no standalone $10 purchase nor enhancements. Small draw distance reminds me of sonic advance lol glad ds sonic colors is better in 2d than remake and I'll stick with that. Not like Sega cares about physical.
My only complaint about the game gear games is that, they didn’t use their MASTER SYSTEM VERSION
My biggest complaint about this collection is that they didn’t include the Sega Master System versions of some of the Game Gear games, nor give the Game Gear games the proper love and care like they did with Sonic 1-3 & Knuckles and Sonic CD.
Otherwise, I think it’s a good start for younger Sonic fans to get more familiar with his old school platforming roots.
Though one game from this collection makes me wish that Sega could’ve did a remake on. That is Tails Adventure. Sure it’s not as fast as the main game, but I would like to see the two tailed fox having his own spin-off and starting his own series and showing how much of a badass Tails can be. Plus I like the uniqueness of the game.
Yeah, some of those games would been better if it was Master System versions, even with save states those can be a pain to deal with.
@@PikangsFutaba Especially with how fast Sonic the Hedgehog 2’s speed and beyond on that cramped screen. I find myself accidentally either careening off the cliff and to my death or accidentally trigger a trap and makes me fall to an alternate path unintentionally. At least with the Sega Master System versions of those games, you can see what traps are coming so you can come at it with a better approach. The Game Gear versions on the other hand makes it a bit more difficult than it already is. So hopefully they make an update to them in the future (I know that’s wishful thinking. Just saying tho).
If you actually expected them to remaster the game gear games then your dumb I’m sorry this is what was advertised and it’s just makes sense to port them
I can agree with that , I have a soft spot for sonic 2 game gear , was first sonic game I owed , sonic 2 was the first game I ever played on the Genesis with MK2 at my unkles, then got a game gear for Christmas from my dad with sonic 2 and carrying case, then later my brothers sister and I got a sega Genesis model 2 with sonic spinball and other great games. my bad rambling I like the music in sonic 2 some of sonic 1 game gear as well
I just turned 20 last month but I haven't gotten the chance to play the classic sonic games in one big package like this yet on console so I will be getting it.

The SLowdowns were also in the original games on the GG. As I saw Bridge Zone I remembered this from my childhood
It's so funny listening to them complain about games were the tech was limited......
The fact that the games still has slowdown on current and last gen consoles... Like c'mon this is being done by emulation so it's baffling how these games are like 30 yrs old and still suffer from slowdown.

I felt Sonic Origins wasn't worth it, so when they said Knuckles and Amy in more versions of Console games and give me a chance to FINALLY beat Sonic Triple Trouble with all 8 Chaos Emeralds, jank and all, well Sonic Origins Plus is worth it to me.
Same here. I mean I don't know why certain people got a bit of hate for this.
At best, it's an okay title. It's not the worst or the best.
By the way, sonic mega collection plus had game gear versions of the titles as well.
Triple Trouble and Sonic Drift 2 are my favorite game gear games

The slowdown in the Game Gear games in this collection is accurate. The same slowdown happened in the Game Gear originals too.
Wish they included the master versions of the games that were included that had master system versions 😶
Sonic 1 on the Game Gear is one of my favourite games. I also remember my uncle getting me Sonic 2 a couple of days before Sonic Tuesday as he was friends with the guy in the shop, felt like Christmas!
I really wanted to see the Master System version of these titles, but oh well..

Just Put Those Playable Characters in This Game Like:
1. Team Chaotix (Vector, Espio, Charmy, Mighty & Ray)
2. Shadow the Hedgehog
3. Rouge the Bat
4. Omega-123
5. Big the Cat
6. Cream the Rabbit
7. Blaze the Cat
If they added actual games like chaotix and sega sonic, fighters and r. I would have bought this day one.
I don’t think they’ve ever rereleased Knuckles: Chaotix to my knowledge, so that be kind of nice to have the option to try it.
Playing with Amy in sonic 2 and fighting the mecca robotnic at the end was a breeze 😂
I tested out Amy in sonic 3 and knuckles and I got to say I really enjoy it. So its a nice feature to add her in the game. As the gear games the one I like the most is Sonic Drift its actually my favorite of all of them
Of course you did she just slower sonic with a bigger hit box

The slow downs were on the GG versions. I played the crap out of 1 & 2 on GG, I loved them. Kind of sad that they didn't fix the slow downs (and maybe made the screen a bit wider). Was considering buying a re-release of 1 & 2 GG versions, but given this, I'll just go on emulator.
The Game Gear emulation seems ok, but again, limited. Master System versions should have been included.
Im enjoying the Mission Mode, quite fun!
Id have liked more filter options too.
Nice to see that I am not alone regarding the SMS games. Last time I mentioned this in the comments of the reveal I got absolutely flamed! It is a shame, particularly for new players as now we can play the "definitive" version of the 16bit games alongside the "subpar" versions of the 8bit era - cOoL

Sonic Chaos? I got it on my Master System several years ago. Came in the mail, hooked up my Genesis, plugged in my Master System Base converter, popped in the Sonic Chaos cartridge and played through the entire game in one sitting, on my first try, and didn't die once. Easiest Sonic game I ever played
I'm getting this for Christmas. I'm happy that Sonic spinball is included, I LOVED playing that on my sister's iPod touch.

Wave 2 adding the Genesis Games (even of Sonic 1, 2, and 3) and Metal Sonic as a playable character.

That's.. Overly optimistic.
These games are available in a lot of different collections and I'm having a hard time feeling like these rereleases are worth buying.. I'd be more enthusiastic about buying it if they added more characters other than Amy.. heck, if they had added Mighty and Ray I'd be more than willing to get it. I dont know.. these are old games that I've seen on so many collections and as a 30+ year old Sonic fan I bought/convinced my parents to buy like almost all but one of these collections growing up. Jeez.. Mario remixes his levels, adds characters, improves his graphics and even comes out with a tool to make your own Mario games TWICE.. at this point i want them to add some characters in there to make it more exciting.. how about Robotnik as a playable character? Or they can challenge themselves and try to classic-ize newer characters like Shadow, Cream, Rouge, and Big.
I feel like the Game Gear games should have just been thrown in a separate collection with their SMS/Genesis counterparts, Sonic R, Sonic the Fighters, Knuckles Chaotix, and both versions of Sonic 3D Blast, Sonic Shuffle, and any other spin-offs from when SEGA was selling games on their own systems that I'm not remembering.

My complaint is that the DLC isn't in my physical copy.
I bought Origins plus because I didn't own Origins. I'm pick up limited or collector's editions of things I really like and the physical of the Origins plus is nice with a little art booklet. included. I'm never going to play the game gear versions but I'll play the originals and I did really like gliding around as Knuckles in Sonic 3 and/or Knuckles so I'll definitely try that. It's a better packaged nostalgia bundle for Sonic fans. the $10 DLC isn't much and provides a bit even if it's useless. It's for Sonic fans who grew up with them like me or people curious about the originals that made Sonic popular. Sonic Frontiers is the way to go now for Sonic moving forward.
Short answer is NO--because Knuckles Chaotix is not included!

Yeah. I’m 100% sure Sega didn’t bother to fix the emulation with the Game Gear Titles and brought this in to solely play as Amy Rose as the highlight of the upgrade. I think overall Sega knows that the Game Gear titles weren’t very good and would rather invest in future games or Sonic rather than fixing the previous titles.
My question is have the glitches and bugs from the digital release been fixed or are they still present?
I still don’t get why people are only obsesses with origins plus just cuz of Amy being playable, it’s like “AMYS PLAYABLE!!” How about the other new stuff!? Like playing the game gear tiles!
Nice set introduction for the original games but yeah they should have remastered the full screen stuff to widescreen. Also would add short walls on the sides of race tracks so the car can stay on the track.

CD was your least favorite of the Genesis games? It wasn’t on Genesis, though.
So how do you buy the plus version? Do you have to buy the game to get access to the extra content?
No matter what you have to redeem via a code or digitally buy the Plus content. Digital and physical don’t include it. But once you buy/redeem it once it will be reflected in either physical or digital. You also have to ensure either way it’s updated to at least V 2.0 (there can always still be patches later)

to be honest it’s not like they could remake half of if not most of their game gear titles in time before the 23d. It kinda makes sense. Also most of the slow down does make sense. I mean juggling a bunch of games can be clunky. And most sonic games take skill so you can blame them for being hard because that’s what the level design. This is a way to tell you. It’s meant to be hard.
The game gear games have always been lesser quality games...
What bothers me is how we continue to get denied a proper port for Knuckles' Chaotix!

It's not emulation issues sega added stereo emulation which is the reason why the game gear titles have a echo like filter to it
I ordered the physical copy, only because of the reversible cover. But it's outrageous how the disc only contains the base game, while the Plus content is a code to download.
And I feel they should have added Sonic 3D Blast and Mean Bean Machine for Genesis in this Plus update, instead of the Game Gear titles.
And to sweeten the deal is an emulated port of Knuckles Chaotix. But that's a wet dream.

Sonic CD is your least favorite of the GENESIS games huh? 😶 Sega wasn’t gonna go extra mile for the Game Gear games… From what I heard they performed worse then pasts ports. Granted they never run great anyway. And depending on how much you like them, in my opinion they weren’t all that great to begin with. Just decent to bad.

Some of these had Master System versions which used a higher resolution for the gameplay. They don’t feel as zoomed-in which helps to avoid unnecessary hits or deaths.
Amy is NOT a simple reskinned Sonic the Hedgehog. Her sprite is much smaller visually, but more importantly she can actually jump farther.
You can test this yourself. There is ledge on the lava stage that is tantalizing just out of reach for Sonic to jump into. Amy can make that jump easily.

The SMS versions were only released in Europe, and Triple Trouble was not released then.

@@mageius The SMS versions was only released on Wii Virtual Console. GG version was used for every version else.
I am only getting this collection since it is physical. I don’t care about the Game Gear titles, but I know my brother in law would want to pick this collection up since he grew up with GG games.
For me I am incredibly hesitant to pick it up because aside from the artbook the game gear titles aren't even on the cartridge or disc. If they're releasing it like that then they might as well have given Sonic Origins a physical release earlier last year. I also already own multiple versions of the classic games from PC to Android as well as the unlockable version of Sonic 1 inside Sonic Generations( which I have multiple copies of as well).

Sonic CD started development on the genesis ..., but was instead released to the SEGA CD. It was NEVER a Genesis Game, what are you talking about? And what is it about one, two, tree.

Not to mention Origins Plus is running on many systems each with their own hardware and limitations. (This also explains why Colors Ultimate was clearly not easy to remaster not to mention that was outsourced followed by the lighting and the new content.)
The game gear games look way too rough to justify the price. They should've had the GBA sonic advance trilogy instead

How can you review Sonic Drift and not mention the drift mechanic? It's literally what makes it fun.
That is probably why you didn't like them.
By the way, Drift 1 is better because of the greater focus on the drift.

It's almost a crime that Drift never got a Genesis or Saturn release, it's very limited by the GG hardware

Sonic Drift pretty much lives on with Outrun 2's drift mechanics. Daytona USA 2 had it as well, but it's not as easy to pull off.

I really wish Sega would make a collection of Arcade Racers for current consoles, it would be wonderful to be able to play Daytona, Scud Racing, Daytona 2 and Outrun 2 officially
