Fellow T1 '22 runner reporting in! Great recap -- the bus situation was indeed a mess haha! Always great to see other T1s out there doing cool things. Keep it up :)
you rock!
Well done Samantha! I've entered a few ballots aiming to do one of the majors. The most I've run is a few half marathons. It's definitely tricky balancing insulin and carbs for long distances so that you feel good. I'm still learning but the training runs help. Everything can change on race day though as you mentioned so we need to keep adapting and not be too hard on ourselves when BGs are not exactly where we want them to be..
Exactly!!! Hope you get in one of the majors!!
Way to go!! I can or walk bike forever, but I get excited if I can run 26 feet . 😊 when I’m out playing with the Grandkids, they know - Grandpa does not run, Grandpa walks.
Very pretty
Can you please make a video on what you eat AFTER race?
My two daughters run marathons (not diabetic) and they say they carb load. That has to be a tricky thing to do being T1. Must be what the training is for to figure that out. Enjoyed hearing your experience both the ups and downs. Bad on the bus deal for sure. I can say I haven't put myself in a long lasting energy intensive situation like that. Primary reason being that there are two things in this world I hate and they are both running. My oldest daughter ran a 26.2 marathon and said she would never do that long a marathon again. Trust the rest of the T1's made it OK.
Yes all 50 of us finished!!! Woohooo
That is an amazing story. Did you take any insulin during the day?
I took my long lasting insulin in the morning around 5 am…. but no fast acting insulin before or during the race.
I only took some fast acting after my run when I ate my dinner! (Which was around 7 pm)
