What did you do in terms of insulin before the race? I'm on pens, one basal and one bolus, and usually run 10kms in the morning with no food or insulin and my sugars stay pretty flat. I'm considering stepping it up to half marathons but thinking my body might need a little more fuel to last the distance. A little low carb food and a little basal before I start and take some glucose tablets or gels for the run?
Hello! I do not take any insulin prior to my runs because if I do, I will drop very quickly. I usually don’t eat any carbs before a run either (some people do!). If you’re hungry, I’d recommend eating something low carb like nonfat Greek yogurt or some protein like lunch meat. During my runs, I tend to drop around mile 7 so that’s when I’ll eat sugar! On my runs, I’ll take glucose tablets, honey stinger waffles, and welches gummies with me. I always take extra sugar just in case 😀 I also made a podcast about this if you want to listen: open.spotify.com/episode/1JXLB4TfpWdX6SSJlYkIQP?si=Ka-R72UfSjiAkhHEzp7eQg
@@Type1Tribe just watched your NY marathon video. Congrats on getting through it! Ok good advice, thanks. Low carb and no\low insulin is definitely the way to go. Good luck with your upcoming runs and keep the videos up.
