- Alex Gordon, President of the Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport workers (RMT) and a national officer of the Stop the War Coalition, joins Ileana Chan and Fiona Edwards for Episode 8 of the No Cold War Britain Podcast.
In this episode we discuss the escalating global war drive being led by the US and the destabilising role of expanding military blocs - NATO and AUKUS.
At a time of rising military budgets and savage austerity in the Global North we discussed the importance of building links between the movements against austerity and war in Britain. We also discuss what internationalists in Britain can learn from the incredible rise of China and the Global South today.
The No Cold War Britain Podcast aims to bring you in-depth monthly discussion on the key issue of our time - building the movement to stop the U.S. new cold war offensive and Britain’s role in this major threat to world peace and prosperity.

Workers of the world unite !
Nice work 👍
Sir, may your wise efforts bear fruits.
Excellent effort by these people 👍❤👍
Thanks for your support ✌️
Unite leadership are supporting NATO /AUKUS, stopped funding STW and oppose protests outside weapons factories or consider a transitioning policy.
Labour said they will have austerity. Cannot guarantee the triple lock for pensions but will put a triple lock on nuclear weapons and up military spending preparing for a war economy.
Unite leadership paused funding for STW, will not support any organisation opposed to NATO /AUKUS and is against activists protesting outside weapons factories linked to supplying Israel.
We have a big battle with them on supporting the transitioning of jobs for the environment and against production and transport of weapons.
Has RMT passed BDS motion and blocked transporting arms?
Dont waste your time. The British working class will ALWAYS back imperialism and militarism. Look at Trident and the retention of nuclear weapons.
Certainly an uphill struggle - but there is so much at stake in stopping this US-led war drive!
@@MsFiona999 it's a US-UK war drive. The working class always supports the nation at war, though the idea of war with Russia might make the meatheads think twice.
