“ma bell” is referring to the bell system or Bell Telephone, which was the big phone company that got broken up into AT&T and all the other companies. When you used to write a check for your phone bill you’d say you were “paying ma bell”.
Tribe Called Quest and Q-tip is so great. Some of the best times of my life were spent chilling in the summer on rooftops in Chicago back in 1996. It group always gave the party great vibs.
The sample for the hook saying 'Get it together, see what's happening' comes from a song called 'Headline Heroes' by Eugene McDaniels. The rumor about this song is that they all took shrooms and basically freestyled most of this tripping. This was the only song they did with Q-tip. Also Beastie Boys usually had several different versions of each of their songs whether it was remixes or isolated instrumentals, etc. And my favorite album is Paul's Boutique. ✌️
Another fun fact about the B-Boys w/r/t remixes is that in the 90's/2000's, they posted a capella versions of about 20 of their songs on their own website, for free. People could download them and remix them on their own, with the actual vocal track isolated. The B-Boys were really something different.
A Tribe Called Quest and Beastie Boys both played on the 1994 Lollapalooza tour. I went to the Saratoga NY date and was so hoping that the Beastie Boys were going to bring Q-Tip out and do this, but it didn't happen. They both had great sets though.
So ATCQ would hang out at gson (beasties studio) but the boys were always cautious about approaching tip to do a Collab because they were worried that tip wouldn't wanna fuck with it because ATCQ were all about the the native tongues scene and they were worried that he wouldn't wanna work with three white boys. Biz Markie is quoted in the track cause he was also a regular at gson
Paul’s Boutique is one of my favorite albums of any artist. The production is insane, with dozens of samples on each track and hundreds throughout the course of the album. Beyond that, it’s just such a fun album. They never really let the listener take them too seriously
This record is really what I love about mid 90s music. It has a trip hop/ lounge vibe and I really love that style. This is around the time Massive Attack had their first album and later groups like Morcheeba etc..
My fave B-boys Albums in order 1 check your head 2 paul’s boutique 3 hello nasty 4 Licensed to ill 5 to the five boroughs 6 The mixup 7 Hot sauce committee 8 ill communication
G O A T S. Back when the media didnt aim to divide us. LOve ya bros. White and Black. Ps the instruments you hear on the track are them. I cant emphasize that enough. Whatever your humming is being played by the B Boys. There is no best B Boys Album > it was all one journey over 2 decades.
I had the pleasure of seeing them both in concert together on the Hello Nasty Tour August of 1998 & man it was a good concert but unfortunately following this Tour ATCQ broke up & wouldn't Tour again till 2004.
I'm probably in the minority but I'm down with everything Biz does does with Beasties. When he sings Benny and the Jets I just feel like Biz is %100 free with his expression.
Favorite BB albums in order for me - 1. Paul's Boutique, 2 - Hello Nasty, 3 - Check Your Head, 4 - Ill Communication, 5 - License to Ill, 6 - Hot Sauce Committee Part 2, 7 - To the 5 Boroughs, 8 - The Mix Up. But I like them all.
@@curtmillholland1565 They are so close... I know what you mean. I only listed The Mix Up last because it's so different from the others, but it's a great album to vibe out to.
The old school music industry and artists were much the same as the modern incarnation. There will always be lots of copycats any time a new fad/artist hits. Some people like the Beastie Boys just march to the beat of their own drum and are pretty unique in everything they do.
Mate this is 94 I think. They weren't trying to create better tracks...this was the level it was at. Standards in general have lowered nowadays. There are a few exceptions of course
My favorite changes often but it's been Hello Nasty for a minute also Hot Sauce Committee Part 2. I'm usually alone in thinking this but this (ILL Communication) is possibly my least favorite, It's good but I just have never felt it that much. edit--Favorite song with a feature Don't Play No Game feat. Santi Gold.
There is NO way I could EVER tell you a favorite album. Old school License to I'll was hard, raw, and youthful. Paul Boutique was a sampler masterpiece. Check your heads puck, funk, smooth songs and between song samples make for a great album, Ill Communication, Hello Nasty is genius. I love the instrumental albums. Some Old Bullshit always makes me laugh and appreciate their range. I'm either laughing or saying... "man". The B-boys were a fantastic punk band. and To The 5 Boroughs is older and wiser, I love this album too, An Open Letter To Nyc? come on. Ch-Check It Out. I'm done. : )
I'm just trying to figure out what songs you give 10's ... this thing was on point the mastering was just superb. I'm just trying to figure out what songs you give 10 to that's what I would like to know...and you giving this a B really...
You HAVE to stop inerrupting! If you like the song, LISTEN TO IT! I know you have to cut through because of copyrighting but, pick a place in the song! You talk about the flow? You can be a dam in the river!
Wow.... a "B" ?? Really? This is one of their finest songs on one of their finest albums IMHO. A+++++++++ I like your content but respectfully disagree with you on this one. Peace/Love

Thank you. Beastie Boys fans will be kicking the new k-nowledge.

Bro this is my jam ... A Tribe Called Quest is too unknown for what they are.. dudes got the perfect voice for the collabs with beasties
ATCQ are far from unknown. They are talked about as one of the greatest rap groups of all time. They are very well known.

You definitely understood this one, my brother… And listening to the Beastie Boys for 35 years….enjoy
I am white from upstate NY. My favorite Beastie Boys song. In Arizona people just see NY, think of the City.
Wall to wall Ill Communication, but Hello Nasty and License To I'll are there. Most Ground Breaking is Paul's Boutique. All the albums are winners.
Paul's boutique is definitely my favorite album from them and then liscene to ill as my next favorite
It’s a track off of Ill Communication. There are multiple remixes of this track and MANY of their other songs too
Paul’s Boutique!! ALL DAY!
Check Your Head is the best Beastie Boys album.
Q-tip was a bold statement, leading out the gate.
To me, this was BB pinnacle
This album came hard.
And...this is my BB fave album, by far.
This song is perfect.
G O A T S. Back when the media didnt aim to divide us. LOve ya bros. White and Black. Ps the instruments you hear on the track are them. I cant emphasize that enough. Whatever your humming is being played by the B Boys. There is no best B Boys Album > it was all one journey over 2 decades.
Favourite album is Paul’s Boutique without doubt! But this is a good one!
This album is my favorite. There is not a bad track on ill communication.
My second favorite behind "Check Your Head"
I had the pleasure of seeing them both in concert together on the Hello Nasty Tour August of 1998 & man it was a good concert but unfortunately following this Tour ATCQ broke up & wouldn't Tour again till 2004.
I went to their concert during this tour as well in Vancouver what city ?..
The first or Pauls boutique!!!!!!
Fav BB album - Paul's Boutique
Since you mentioned Biz Markie, there’s a great cut with The Biz doing a freestyle over a live Beastie groove.
“Groove Holmes (Live vs. the Biz)”
I'm probably in the minority but I'm down with everything Biz does does with Beasties. When he sings Benny and the Jets I just feel like Biz is %100 free with his expression.
Biz vs. The Nuge too. Love all his cameos.
@@anthonyv6962 love that cover.
I thought I had everything the did but I dont remember this. Thanks for putting me on.
The Beastie's best album will always be Paul's Boutique. I love your reactions, you ever make it to Nashville look me up

Hard to argue your ranking. I could move one or two albums up or down a spot but #1 and #2 are locks
@@curtmillholland1565 They are so close... I know what you mean. I only listed The Mix Up last because it's so different from the others, but it's a great album to vibe out to.
Hello Nasty is my favorite start to finish
Old skool is the best skool
Great song! Great reaction bronamath! Just listened to this song the other day
voting this video for most annoying interruptions.
Hello Nasty, but all are legendary on their own
Awesome jam yeah 🤘😎👍🎧🎛️🎤📀
The old school music industry and artists were much the same as the modern incarnation. There will always be lots of copycats any time a new fad/artist hits. Some people like the Beastie Boys just march to the beat of their own drum and are pretty unique in everything they do.
Paul's Boutique
My favorite collaboration with the Bestie Boys is Nas- To Many Rappers
This one is great, and the bass on it shakes the room.
My favorite beastie boys album is Check Your Head
If by 'best' you mean where broad appeal meets strong material, this is the one.
Mate this is 94 I think. They weren't trying to create better tracks...this was the level it was at. Standards in general have lowered nowadays. There are a few exceptions of course
Has this younger generation never seen a 12 inch single ?🤷🏻♂️

Negotiation Limerick File from Hello Nasty by the Beaties. I think you'll really enjoy it.

DO it next!’
Like the blackbirds I'm a do it fluid. Building rhymes like buildings, like a Stonehenge druid.
You want explicit? Check out scenario by Beastie Boys. Early track to explicit for the first album
Ad Rick was married to Ione Skye right? ( The cheese to his macaroni)
Beastie boys - Nas joint
From what I heard, Qtip was tripping on shrooms when they recorded this

I guess maybe you're still a kid so you don't quite understand that's cool

Thats the great thing about this channel, we can ALL have our own opinions and each one is valued! So thank you!!
They didn't good until the second album
Bruh you cutting it off too much
Research the track before u do this
Us fans know who is on track
Definitely my least favorite Beastie Boys song of all time. I definitely think the beat sucks and I think that really hurts the rhymes overall.
Paul’s Boutique
