That’s one dry oak log. It’s making dust if it had more moisture to it it would be cutting faster. But your mills handling very good.

The great thing about Cook’s is that the guys in charge actually use their mills, so they know what sawyers would want. I own another big brand sawmill and sometimes I really wonder if they saw themselves.

Really appreciate that your editor didn't speed up the video during the cutting process, which is pretty much what every other sawmill manufacturer does. Nice to see, realistically, how much time it takes to saw through a huge hard log with this mill.

I built a mill in the ‘80s that would cut to 40”. Built my own guides and after finding Cooks began using their blades and bought their Catclaw grinder and duel setter. Just recently retrofitted to Cooks blade guides. Next step was to expand cut capacity and still retain portability. Mill will now cut to 72”, is upgraded to 1 1/2” guide rollers and 1 1/2” Super Sharps. If I was to buy a mill it would be a Cooks mill. Next step, Cooks band wheels.

Given that in other videos you talk about the need to keep a blade clean when entering the log, that's a heavy bark layer I see on this log.. How much will that reduce blade life?

I upgraded my mill last winter from the old trailer tire wheels to Cook's precision cast iron band wheels and it is a totally new awesome mill! Thanks for all the help and advise in this Cook's! Great products and great people!

I never really could achieve the proper blade tension with the trailer tires. It would cut strait with a fresh blade, but after just 2 logs (clean) it would get wavy cuts (was cutting knotty pine) > Now with the new wheels from Cook's I can get proper tension and cut more logs straighter!

The cooks wheels dont have "tires"? You are running the blade directly on the steel wheel?.
I still have about 1/32" of wavy cut. I'm hoping that the cooks wheels fixes that.

@@patmatt975 the cooks wheels have no tires. They are a precision balanced and turned (Machined) to very close tolerances. The teeth do not run on the wheel, but just forward slightly keeping them off the steel wheel. Just recently, I have increased my blade tension even more and are getting even straighter cuts on very knotty pine. The knots are very hard and can dull a blade quickly. Running them tighter has helped a lot. They sold me a spring (850 lb I think?) for blade tensioning. My system is not a hydraulic tensioning.
