    What part of the country are you located? I'm in the market for a Cooks sawmill, or something similar. Also, what blades are you running to cut your hardwood?

      @Michael Smith, We are in southeastern Ohio. I have a mix of the Cooks Ultra 10, and Cooks Super Sharp blades, both seem to be doing very good. The Super Sharp Dura tooth is a bit more $$ but do seem to keep an edge just a bit longer. Thanks for watching! hope to get some more sawmilling videos up soon (weather has been poor last week or so)

      How long of log will your mill cut?

    • @gansonsonthehill
      @gansonsonthehill  Рік тому

      @James Abernathy my mill is considered a 21’ log cut. I have sawn 22’ logs. They have to be placed precisely but will do it.

    I’ve had my cook’s no-32 for almost a year and still working on a few bugs. Can you tell me if you have an issue with your lumber being narrower in the middle and wider at the ends like an hour glass. Also have you tried clamping the feed lever and letting it move on its own? That’s where my feed motor stalls and I have to push it by hand.

      @Brandon Vining Only issue i have with "hour glass" lumber is if the cant has tension and bows off the deck. is your deck set up level? on good footing under leveling jacks? I set it up level side to side and length ways. in one of my videos i show what i have done to keep feed "clamped". i cannot recommend this however. it is just what i have done. i have never had an issue where i had to assist the feed to make a cut. maybe your blade is duller than you think? Or, do you have one of the screw locks tightened against the track wheels? (i have forgot to loosen them before)

      @@gansonsonthehill I have set up in different locations, I use a laser transit to set up and level the mill. Always have the same cut issues. My rail that is welded for the head to roll on was out and I had to cut a couple welds which helped it not stop at that spot on the rail but it still has the same feed issues. Even with a new blade it does the same thing. Replaced the speed adjustment potentiometer once already. I live in mid Michigan and if I wasn’t so far away I’d take it back for service.

      I guess i would start with nothing on the deck, take feed chain off and roll it back and forth. try to find where it is not rolling smooth and easy. I can give mine a gentle push (with no feed chain on it) and it will roll most of the length. Is the rails equal distance apart, side to side, all the way? there is a number of things that could be the issue. i am by no means an expert but glad to help you any way i can. i would hate to see anyone disappointed as these are great mills. i assume you have talked with them down @CooksSawmills ?
