    You might consider getting a tailgate screen room ( 4get the brand) 2 extend your living space and give you room to stand up. It comes with optional rain fly.

    I just have to say thank you. I've watched both videos and I am so impressed. I am turning my F150 into a camper for my 2 girls and myself. We are hoping to leave come Feb 2023. This gives me time to get the back built and everything. We have a jackery 1500 so I'm very thankful for the tour in the other video of how I can set it up. Thank you so much!!!!!!

    I get it. Tents are a pain. Campers & Rvs come with issues as well. Simple truck-bed camping allows the experience to flow. I might make an even simpler rig. Thanks for sharing!!

      Not nearly as much as I did hauling a trailer lol. Also, depending on the trip we may leave certain things out. Thanks for watching!

  • @clintstinytrailerconversio5560

    Your Tramper is truly an inspiration for me... to realize how nice a build can be (best I have seen!) and how organized one can be. In video #1 you listed your must-haves, which pretty much mirrors mine. My build is inside a Harker EDC wedge popup shell, instead of a topper. I don't need the "lower" bed but I can see the practicality of one doubling as a place to lounge and a bed for a guest. I can stand up fully, so, I will be able to have an normal height kitchen countertop and taller storage units. So, even though our designs will vary greatly, I certainly hope I can make mine as functional as yours. I already have a Mr. Heater Buddy, 54x80x4" mattress, Engel 35L 12v cooler, as well as, a 395W panel on the roof. The challenge is, I think, also making all the cabinetry removable.

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  Рік тому +1

      Thank you very much for the kind words! To stand up in it would be heavenly (especially the older I get)! Sounds like you are well on your way to having an awesome build! Be blessed!

    So organized and well thought out. I have a Bluetti and a small Dometic Fridge, I’d like to keep the fridge in my cab and the Bluetti in the truck cap. How have you run wires from your solar charger to the truck cab?

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  Рік тому +1

      I generally run the power cable through the windows. I also will put the tire inner tube between the windows to keep the bugs and rain out.

    Thanks for the update. I already knew there were 2 things I needed that you didn’t cover on your last video. A safety access to the drivers seat from truck bed and a refrigerator/ freezer in the back seat of my truck. I can’t stress enough the importance of having access to the drivers seat from the bed of your truck. I needed it the late 90’s in the Pacific Nothwest and used it. I already replaced my rear cab solid window with a sliding window on my Ford f 250. Just looking for the best topper and build.

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  2 роки тому

      I think it is very wise to have an emergency exit into the cab. If you had to get out of a predicament quickly but there is some danger outside of the vehicle it's good security.

      I just got my truck, I’m looking to build it out for travel/camping. At 6’3” and 270lbs, I’m not sure if I’ll fit though that sliding window. (I might have to go on a diet!). I really love the idea of using the bike tube to weather proof the connection between the cab and cap!

    Couldn't one mount a gray/black water tank under the vehicle. Also, have you thought about a Truma heater system?

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  2 роки тому +1

      Quite possibly. I guess it would just be a matter of finding a good spot to hang a tank that could hold the extra weight without getting knocked around if you were off road. The other advantage of keeping it inside is keeping it from freezing in the cold months.

    Crap. I just built out a simple camper van for retirement but think this would of been a better way to go. Much more stealth then my high top even though only the vent fan gives any indication it's a camper. I would differently get a walk thru door from a.r.e. with arthis in my spine. This is awesome! Lots of similar to mine I have a jackery 1000 $ each flow 720 w 3 suite case 100w panels. I have a truck teck, inflation sup, & letric folding e bike under the bed. They would be in the back seat if I had A truck. I wouldn't need a car. I didn't want the van as a daily driver but a truck would be ok. I used to sleep basic in one back in the 80's when I was in the Navy.

    Nice done!
    I'm new in traveling. And trying to choose camper for my business trips as a truck driver. Sleeping in cab doesn't too comfortable. And your decision is absolutely nice! So I have couple questions:
    How much money did you spent for it?
    Can I buy somewhere it?
    How and where can I empty gray water tank, on truck stops?

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  2 роки тому +3

      Thank you! Either the cap, I probably have close to 8-9k. There are some custom shops that make builds for truck beds, unfortunately mine is currently one of a kind. You could probably dump your grey water in a public restroom, campground, flying j truck stops, etc. if you collect it in a jug like I do.

    Thank you for sharing. I’m also thinking of buying a full sized truck for the purpose of converting it to a compact camper. Instead of a bed cap considering medium height industrial slide in, either Tuffport or SpaceKap which would make it a self contained easy to swap unit. Did you consider a slide in capsule with proper doors before you got a topper. If so, what made you decide in favour of bed topper instead of a slide in? Thank you.

    • @WhentheDustSettles
      @WhentheDustSettles  Рік тому +2

      Sure thing! I actually didn’t have any thought of converting it into a camper when I purchased the cap. At the time I was pulling a 30ft Airstream and would bring along my Honda 7000 Generator in the truck bed, so the cap was just to keep that protected plus I had a decked drawer system installed. Once I sold the trailer (we moved and didn’t have a place to park it) I was really interested in converting a van. Then one day I had the bright idea to “practice” on my truck first. May still do a van someday, but for now I’m really enjoying the truck.
