I have had several single leaves grow roots in water (no rooting powder used). Just used my fingernail to remove from main plant. It does take several weeks for roots. Good luck + thx for the great video.

I have gotten roots on leafstems but havent planted them yet. I have also just taken a leave that busted of with a small nubbin of stem and its rooting in my prop box but alot slower. Im glad you mentioned water prop on stems . ive got great roots.
Beautiful plant and top notch info as always! I have found that they don't tolerate direct sunlight at all and the leaves fade out and turn yellow very fast. Had a big motherplant that was growing in all directions but up - but it was making babies left and right. The leaves never got really big though. During winter it massively shed leaves (like 10 a week) even though I could not find any pests or illness. So this spring I decided to give it a restart. Cut it up completely and now I have like 8 new plants (water and soil propagation both worked for me). I found that the soil it was in was way too compact and probably not the right mix (it was one of my first tropical houseplants a couple of yrs ago). Really curious to see how it turns out this time. Will definitely try staking it up this time around.
My pups rooted in water really well. Potted them using some cactus soil in terra cotta pots… as I have tendencies to over wayer. Some leaves are droopy… noticed that soil is drier sooner (guess due to terra cotta and soil type). Watering every 3 days. Do you think its ok? Yours look amazing and thank you
The lower leaves on mine were a bit saggy too. That is normal for that plant...I THINK. If you think it needs water then try giving it water. It is all an experiment figuring out what your plants need.

I'm thinking tho I didn't see any I'm pretty sure they've sucked the life outta it. I'm not sure where they keep coming from but my palm collection and a few others I dont think I'm ever gonna get rid of them.

I'm thinking that the plants that keep getting them instead of watering I'll give them a shower instead hosing them off seems to work just as good without the chemical burning!
Thanks so much for this information. I have a small pilea that I'm learning how to take care of. Has grown 3 pups very close to edge of pot. Afraid they're going to die cause they're out of growing room. Should I separate babies when I repot, or leave them alone? Each baby has 3-4 leaves😊
Sorry for the late reply Editha. One thing I like to do if you give a plant too much water is place a fan near it as the breeze will allow for faster evaporation. How is your plant doing?

I don’t know what it needs, it’s like the leaves burn easily when placed near a window. Mine keeps on losing lower leaves and I also have brown spots on them. I make it a point to only water them when dry.
Hello Marites and sorry for the late resonpse. Losing the lower leaves is pretty normal for this plant. I have decided to let the new gorwth (babies) continue to grow and fill in the bare lower stem. I have mine off to the side of a south window and it really likes that spot. I repotted into terracotta because the larger the pot you go the more then soil stays wet at the bottom. It was okay in that small outgrown dollar store pot because the roots soaked up the moisture quicker then I could give it....if that makes sense. Hope this helps
What a beauty! Mine's about 2 years old as well but it's a little smaller. It's growing well but I think it's getting too much light as the leaves are rather pale green (not yellow, just pale). I repotted it last year and fertilise it regularly.
@@EverythingPlants yup, just like you I put a thin stick alongside the stem this summer because it was getting a bit top heavy and would wobble and lean every which way. I didn't tie it in, it's just alongside for support. I hope that eventually the trunk will thicken/stiffen up 🤞 I also rotate it regularly like you do.

I have a pot like that and it doesn't drain well. The hole is too small and it gets clogged. I had to drill other holes because it was causing root rot.

At around the 3 min mark into the video I show the type of soil mix that I used for the pilea. These plants loose their lower leaves as it grows. I have just left the small babies to grow and that usually fills in the void left by the lost leaves.
They say it will not propagate from a leaf, unless you cut a small part of a stem with that leaf, kind of like a slice on a side of a stem where a leaf is connected. How did your leaf propagation go?
Mine was dropping leaves, they were turning black around the edges. So I took it out of the soil and moved it into water. Its been stagnant. A few roots, but no growth and slightly yellowish. I hope it lives, what else can I do?
I think when it has black on the leaves in is over watered or the soil is staying too wet. I have mine in a well draining mix and a terracotta pot so it doesn't stay wet. I give it lots of water when it is dry. Also give it looks of light.....just watch out for leaf burn. Hope this helps
How long after I get a new baby one should I see new growth? I just bought one a few weeks ago and since then it’s lost leaves but I haven’t seen any new ones pop up. I see the leaves growing outward but no new babies and all of the leaves are curling. I don't think there is an answer I can give you because the growth of the plant all depends on the condition of your home and what the plant needs. It will grow when it is ready. They are fairly quick growers.

I'm assuming you can't just chop the top off and put into water and expect roots to grow? I'm missing a lot of leaves on the bottom and would like a much to make it fuller. It was doing great last summer, but I neglected it somehow and it dropped a massive amount of leaves. It's recouping but looks quite pathetic.
It's actually quite normal for this plant to lose its lower leaves as it gains new ones on top. What I did to fill in the bottom was let all the new growth continue to grow and not cut them out or propagate them and eventually those will grow up kind of filling in that bear area.
I bought 3 June 2020 and they are still very small and most of the leaves have fallen off 😢. Not sure what I’m doing wrong. Not getting direct sun, the leaves are turning brown and falling off.😢
Most likely over watering or poor soil (holding too much moisture) water it well but also give it a chance to dry out. Give it a bright area, but be careful to not scortch the leaves. Haha sounds simple, right?!?!
Also apparently this plant is a succulent so imagine you kinda do have to let the soil dry out and overwatering is so easy when it comes to this plant 🌱 😩😮💨learning cuz mines clinging onto dear life
Hello Farida! Sometimes leaf drop with these is caused by over watering or the improper soil. They like to be thoroughly watered but like to dry out. Once the plant starts to grow and mature, they do drop their lower leaves as they grow...so that is normal. I let the small newer growth fill in the bottom area. I hope this helps and good luck.
Brown spots could be a watering issue. I give mine a good thorough watering only when the soil is dry. Brown spots could also be a sign of under watering as well.
Does anyone's pilea leaves curl up into a dome? mine has been doing that and i've been trying to find out why. i've repotted it out of the nursery pot, humidity is around 50-60%, its right next to the window getting dappled sun. the leaves remain curled up as they mature...

I haven't tried this one yet, but peperomia can be rooted from a single leaf (no stem) I currently have a new plant from a rana verde single leaf. Other plants such as a ficus can not be rooted from a leaf.
You can also cut the main stem just below the bottom leaves, set that top in water, and plant after roots have formed. Then cut the bare stem off an inch above the soil and new leaves will form, giving you two complete plants in time.
I've never tried just the leaf method......but it is doable apparently. You need a small slice of the stem along with it, so not a true leaf propagation. I will correct this information the next pilea video I make.

I remember when Pileas were so hard to find! Have you seen leaning pileas? They are so lovely but I would be worried to break the main stem 💚
Mine started to lean a bit, so I put a support stake in to hold it up. That was my fear as well.....breaking the stem.

I accidentally burned a lot of mines leaves but I revived it. It got leggy so I beheaded it and put it in water and will replant it. Hope it works!

It might grow slower, but give it a try and see how it does. You could always supplement it with a grow light/bulb.

YOu mentioned you watered it before your repotted it. Did you water it again once it was repotted?
I don't think so. Just let it adjust to the new pot and water again when dry.
Mine is not a lovely dark green like yours I have her right by a window for maximum light but still paler green

Hi,my Pilea did not recovers until now when I over watered them nearly 2 months ago. I have repotted them but they are still droopy..any tips?
Just give it time to recover and see how it does. Place it in a bright sunny location and I let mine get pretty dry before watering again. Good luck!

A new plant won't grow just from a leaf, it can take root but it won't grow a new plant unless you have part of the root ball

If you are watering it a lot more then normal and it is still droopy then it might need to be repotted. Check the roots and see if it is root bound.

I bought this as a small plant in a 4 inch pot about 2 years ago.
Mine has brown spots on the edges of older leaves.

Oh my, I have the same issues! I think I’ve lost pretty much all the lower leaves on both of them. Got two and both are acting up on me.
