    She didn’t have an epipen on standby because they cost upwards of $700 each and have an extremely short shelf life. It’s not feasible for a lot of people to buy Epipens for $700 that will more than likely get thrown out over and over again

      That is so unfortunate. A life saving device like that should be affordable to everyone. Would that we lived in a better world. For this movie though, Her death was planned, and an Epipen would probably not have mattered. Still, Thanks for the heads up, I forgot about how expensive they are!

    2:15 what a wonderfully refreshing take on the situation. The vast majority of the time reactors go "OOOOH WHY'S SHE TALKING ABOUT DEATH THAT'S SPOOKY!", when in reality it's a kid who's just confronted death properly for the first time. Of course it's going to be at the forefront of their mind for a while, and they're going to be thinking about literally everyone's death.

      I agree, she had a great insight for Charlie. Fifi really helped us understand her early on, and it only made it harder to accept her death when it happened, because I really wanted a happy life for her. Thanks for Stopping by!

    It’s worth noting for real life reference. Nuts don’t have to be an ingredient, they can be deadly as a contaminant. Like reusing the same knife.

    Hereditary was filmed in Utah.
    It premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. When I watched the movie for the first time, I recognized the mountains in the background of the funeral when the casket was being buried. I was like "hey I used to live there" lol.

      Oh, that makes sense. No wonder they were able to go from desert to a more wooded feel. It must have been cool to recognize where you live on the big screen. I get the same feeling when I watch Robocop, because We live in Dallas, TX and it was filmed here. I love when that happens in big movies. Thanks for stopping by!

    I'll explain the writings on the wall because I'm into the occult: Zazas is a demon commonly conjured during use of the Ouija board. Liftoach Pandemonium literally means, "open chaos" Liftoach is Hebrew for "open". Zatony is a phrase used in Necromancy to call upon the dead to force the origin spirit out of the targeted vessel! Joanie also mentioned "Apeirogon" when shouting at Peter outside of the school. Apeirogon in geometry is a geometric shape with an infinite number of countable sides. I hope this helps. :)

      @CocktailFlicks  Рік тому +4

      Oh wow, Thanks for all the insight. So all the writing on the walls is similar to being surrounded by written spells, and incantations. That definitely helps to understand things a little better. Much appreciated, That's interesting!

    Here's the thing like I said I like the psychological angle of grief that part worked.
    But the cault stuff could of been handled better. Like for example in the other movies an TV shows I seen the cault stuff was handled like this. The cault members did nothing to draw attention to themselves. They hide in plain sight in the background never making themselves known. Until it was time for the cault to carry out its plan then they made themselves known an only then. Did they make any kind of contract with the targets.
    But in this movie one stands out in broad daylight an watches. One of the kids an then calls directly out to them thats clearly drawing attention to themselves an making themselves known. Then the one that showed the mother that ritual that's clearly drawing attention to themselves once again. Its like this " secret cault " completely forgot the secret part in secret cault.
    Now for the supernatural stuff that could of been handled better. Key example the part with the book that when you go to burn it. You or someone else gets set on fire instead that part worked. Because you didn't see it coming because there was no worning sign. It just happened out of nowhere so you didn't see it coming.
    Then people crowing on the seling I see that in older movies an things. I even seen them crow on the walls so I been there an seen that.
    Now the rest there was always some indication or signs that something supernatural was going to happen. Like for example the popping sounds his sister made or that wird light. Then something supernatural happened immediately afterwards. So basically if you hear that popping sound or see that wird light. You know something supernatural was going to happen. But thats why that book part works because. There is no wird light or popping sound first it was dead silent with no wird out of place lights. It was just she put the book into the fire an she caught on fire. Then she tried again once again no out of place sounds or lights. Then here husband caught on fire out of nowhere.
    So it comes down to this this movie would have worked better. If they did the cault an supernatural stuff more sutily. As in they drew no attention to any one or anything until it happened. But making the cault members do things to stand out like a neon sign. Then having a sound or a light appear out of nowhere. Right before something supernatural happened that stuff is the opposite of being sutil. Thats what makes this movie not work for me.
    That is where other movies an TV shows I seen. Do it better because every thing is quite so to speak no one or nothing stands out. Until the event or things happens out of nowhere like in this movie. They got the stuff around Burning the book right because there was no worning sign of a supernatural event. About to take place it just happened.
    So its not the fact that this movie had cault an supernatural stuff in it my issue. Is How it was handled because its not really creepy or scary if the movie goes this person. Is super suspicious an its not really scary if you have a single or indication right before something supernatural happens. Because what makes something creepy and scary is when you don't see it coming.

  • @83shadow3
    @83shadow3 Рік тому +3

    First the only reason this movie is in my collection is simple. I heard only good things about it but even then I didn't an the only reason I got it was. Because the store reduced the Blu-ray version of the movie to 5 dollars. So basically I only got it because it was 5 dollars.
    Now the cake didn't have nuts in it she had a allergic reaction. Because the knife was used to cut nuts first then they immediately started to cut the cake with it. So basically the knife had nut oil on it so that nut oil got onto the cake. Wich leads to the real stupid part of the movie. That being if someone is that highly allergic to nuts even nut oils. Common sense dictates that that person has a EpiPen on hand at all times. So the fact she never had a EpiPen on hand at any time makes zero sense.
    Now I wanted to like this movie but I couldn't. I like the psychological angle that the mother with the truma stuff. But other then that I seen the cault stuff handle better in other movies. Now the only thing supernatural wise that I didn't see coming was. That when you go to burn the book it set other people on fire that was something I didn't see coming. But I seen all of the other supernatural stuff before an it was done better then this movie. Because because any supernatural happened the movie game a worning sign. Case in point with her brother in the class room before anything supernatural happens. You see that wird light reflection or whatever so you know something. Was going to happen so it was not a surprise because the movie showed a now something us going to happen sign. Then all of that supernatural stuff was done in other movies before. But it was done better because those movies didn't give a worning sign. The supernatural stuff just happened out of nowhere so it cashes you off gard.
    So I wanted to like this movie but it was only slightly interesting. I fail to see why this movie gets all the hype it gets. Maybe if it just stuck to the psychological angle of grief. Then I would like it but the cault an supernatural stuff brings this movie down. Because the cault an supernatural stuff has been done before an done better in other movies. Even some TV shows do that stuff better than this movie.

      Thanks for clarifying that the knife had been chopping nuts, and then immediately used to carve cake. We made the same point about the Epipens too, and found it to be negligent of the parents not to be prepared for a severe reaction like that. I am sorry you found the movie to be slightly interesting, but I get your point about how supernatural events were thrown at you out of nowhere to make it more interesting. As for me, I didn't mind that so much, and was intrigued by the movie, and it's story. I haven't seen too many like it myself, so it hit a little different for me. None the less, I always appreciate you being candid on these movies. Great hearing from you as always!
