The big clue was the adjustable push rod tubes! When you are that, they were in there the easy way for either the plate upgrade, cams or both! Very nice!
Great point! Adjustable pushrods wont tell everything but are a good sign work has been done to the cam chest.

Did you drain oil prior to opening it up?
you don't have to remove the pipes pull them down a bit.
He was changing the pipes anyways that’s why he done it while they was off to check
