Love your persistence, Jess. Yes it’s best to stop when you can’t see and stay dry. Was stuck in a miserable rain storm about 15 years ago and my trip had an unfortunate 4 hour addition to it when the rain forced a bridge closure. Had to turn around, backtracked 2 hours through the worst of the rain again. From that moment it changed almost everything I did to prepare for long rides. Glad you arrived safe. As always, “Keep scootin’!”
Especially on a motorcycle it's better to take a break because your back hurts and it's a different style of road trip. Then just getting in your Toyota RAV4 and doing a hundred miles. But if you're doing a long long road trip in a car or motorcycle taking a 30 minute break is always good
5:50 so I don’t know who is in the black van either however, as a biker, I will often get behind a bike on my local highway and kind of protect them and give them distance and keep four wheelers away. Hope that makes sense!
15:56 "This was stupid." And so begins an adventure you'll talk about for years from now. I know this because I've said those exact words myself too many times to count, but I wouldn't trade a single miserable mile for anything. Loved this video.
This is the first time watching you channel. You are a lovely individual and your enthusiam is very inspiring. Stay safe out there on the road. Prayers and Blessings to you always.
Wow, Woow, wooow Jess, this video was one of your best so far. Your mellow voice, excellent editing and story telling is second to none. I been following you from your first video and seen the progress you have made,.. this was another level, really. Now you have showed everyone the real life on a bike....I sat down, I poured myself a glass of wine and didn't touch it for the whole 25 minutes. Big thanks for this awsome video Jess and be safe out there!!
I don't know how you could set it up safely, but with all your viewers you could have a great safety net near you always. I know I know, you don't really know us etc etc etc but everytime you have some issue in my neck of the woods I wish I knew so I could help. You are so awesome! Glad you are safe and that you work to stay that way and glad you had an amazing journey. Getting on a motorcycle is a dangerous thing, you never know where those tires might take you. See what I did there.
I have been a subscriber to your channel since you first started. I believe that is the best video you ever made. You had me on the edge of my chair. Please be careful and ride safe.
I have watched about a dozen of your videos and I wantI to tell U a couple of thIngs. First of all, UR joy just makes this old geezer's heart smile! Secondly, I have really pleased with the audio/video quality of your shows. Great stuff!
After you crossed back into Ohio on 70, I kept looking to see if you filmed my Exit (48) lol. No mater where I go, no matter when I go, It always rains on me on the way home. Great series Jess. Think maybe my spring trip will head west.
Back in the day I rode a 1976 Liberty Edition SuperGlide (kick start only) which held 2 1/2 gallons of usable fuel before going into reserve. I learned to stop every 100 miles since the SuperGlide got 50 MPG's. I rode that motorcycle for 10 years, putting 96K miles on it, with just routine maintenance. With my current 2007 Fatboy I still stop every 100 - 125 miles to refuel, and take about a 15 - 20 minute break. Riding in the rain is a real pain for sure, glad you made it safely. I am fortunate to still be on two wheels at 71 years of age. I plan to put a Frankenstein trike kit on my Fatboy in the near future. Wishing you the very best on your motorcycling adventures.
Wow Jess!!! Love the people in the van!!! I hate riding in the rain!! Got worried when you had to ride in the rain and at night!!!! Glad you made it home safe and sound!! Thanks for taking us one more time!! My butt wouldn’t last that long!!!😂😂😂😂😂

Enjoyed the series! Those are long days in the saddle. Glad you made it through the gauntlet unscathed. I had a similar experience riding home from Lake Placid in a rain storm. Not fun when the visor leaks like that at all. We ducked into a pizza shop in Vermont to wait it out and get on the back side of the storm. The kids in the shop let us stand near the oven to dry out. Needless to say they were well compensated that day. Looking forward to your next adventures. Enjoy the cruise!
Good stuff for stopping on time Jess. In the Netherlands we have a "rule" which is really more a good habit for yourself an other drivers or riders it says like every 2 hours you drive/ride take a 15 mins break. This to prevent getting tired in your sights etc. Granted, I don't do this whilst driving a car all the time cause I can drive longer without feeling fatigued or something. But if I take a longer one way trip, say 3 hours or more i'll have to stop and either eat, drink or pee anyway, kinda like an alarm clock sometimes lol.
Any motorcycle manual I have ever received with a bike warns against using the plastic squeeges at gas stations and the soap they have. Plastic windshields are not like those on cars. DO NOT use those things on your bike.
Seems fair and logic. I wouldn't either, i'd probably use visor cleaner stuff for the windshield or just soap where you wash the bike with also or something. But what I approve is stopping on time whether it be at a gas station to stretch, fuel up, drink, eat or toilet break or waiting out the rain under a overpass for safer travels.
Wow, what a marathon ride Jess…look to buy a Shoei Neotec 2 flip up helmet. They are really comfortable, have a great pin lock and you can get the intercom built in as well. My wife and I both have them. 😁🇬🇧

Stopping on the shoulder is dangerous too. You don't want to get off into wet grass and mud when it's raining. Under an overpass the paved part of the shoulder is sometimes wider, you're out of the pouring rain, your lights reflect on the walls (at night), drivers are somewhat more alert to see that you're stopped and off the road.

I make it a point to stop every two hours. I just did a trip to the Islamorada in the Florida Keys from North Carolina and I stopped for gas every 118 miles (+/-) and did 825 miles going down in one shot and 831 back north in one shot. Those little breaks every two house were a god send and made the ride very tolerable. No pain, no discomfort and I wasn't toasted when I arrived at my destinations. The trip down and the trip back both took me 15 hours. I don't think I'll do the same mileage when I go to Sturgis next year, but I'll probably cap it at 500 per day....... maybe. Oh and I also used a Camelbak and having that water was a very welcomed addition to the ride.
Good set of videos i wish i had warned you about hwy 70 in Denver. we rode that on our way back from the west coast. You are right it was so horrific. Plus I didn't' realize that the air pressure in my tires had actually gone up from all the mountain riding in NV, UT, and CO. Still not sure how I didn't blow a tire. I did hit one crack or pot hole or idk what it was so hard I almost gotten thrown off my bike on that road. Will definitely be finding a different route through there next time.
I remember when you started this channel and riding. For some reason I got away from your channel and just tuned into this today. You have come a long way in your ability and knowledge of riding. I have been riding for many decades lol... and I still don't like riding in the rain or at night and especially both. Even though now I am older...and have all the fairens on my bike and wind screen...I still don't like the rain and night. I am even starting to feel the cold ... so rule of thumb is the temperature as to be the same as my age lol... yes I am a warm weather rider now days lol. Btw 1k is to commended . On a trip with good weather it's a long run. You earned that patch. This might be a silly question. But do you submit any of your adventures in to HOG for them to put in the magazine ? Well good run... keep the breeze in your knees and wind in your hair...and above all the rubber side down.
Another great video. I travel a lot similar to the way you travel. Interstates To destinations . If you don’t have an adjustable backrest for your bike you should think about getting one. I just got mine and love it . So I have a few questions. Is there a reason you don’t use the motorcycles gps? I use my phone also but I’ll set my bikes gps to my final destination and use my phone for coffee stops (im also an ice coffee fan) Also being a cross country traveler, why don’t you have better gear? Like Aerostich, Klim, or Motoport? I also have a modular helmet but all the ones I’ve had have a sun screen. So I don’t need sunglasses. I lose or break them anyway 🤷♂️ Does your helmet not have a visor or do you not use it for videos? Again, great content 👍

Yep that's a heck of a ride ! You have guts I'll give ya that...but please try and be careful out there.. we would miss having you around.
hey great series Jess glad you made it home in one but wet piece.🏍🏍
Glad you made it home safe!! Quite an accomplishment..
Nice video and glad you survived all that rain 🌧. Always safety but you did that on the IBA documented or not good job 😊
You are a professional rider love watching your shows
Congratulations on a long day's ride. It sucks any time of day to get caught in a soaking rain, but especially at the end of a long day. Ride safe.
yellow glasses help clear things up at night and in fog. they also cut down the glare from oncoming traffic, and streetlights
Dang Jess you can put on the miles. Be safe out there. Love your videos.
Hoping you get a new helmet soon! And gladd to see this journey finished. Even though it was interesting to see old Appa again, lol.
You got the Ironbutt no problem, get a Shoei Neotec2.....DOES NOT leak anywhere !!! 👍👍👍🏁🏁🏁
Check out some of my recent videos 😉
Another great video.
I travel a lot similar to the way you travel.
Interstates
To destinations . If you don’t have an adjustable backrest for your bike you should think about getting one. I just got mine and love it .
So I have a few questions.
Is there a reason you don’t use the motorcycles gps?
I use my phone also but I’ll set my bikes gps to my final destination and use my phone for coffee stops (im also an ice coffee fan)
Also being a cross country traveler, why don’t you have better gear?
Like Aerostich,
Klim, or Motoport?
I also have a modular helmet but all the ones I’ve had have a sun screen. So I don’t need sunglasses.
I lose or break them anyway 🤷♂️
Does your helmet not have a visor or do you not use it for videos?
Again, great content 👍
