- Are camcorders dead in 2019? Are they relevant at all or even worth buying? Let's test one out against a decent mirrorless camera for youtube videos. Will it crumble under the pressure? Can it even compete with the micro camcorder Sony x3000 wonder camera? Let's find out!

Thanks so much to Old Man Dan for giving these to me!
Hi, i’m a photographer.
Do you think is worth to shot photo with this Canoncorder?
The Canon would look better if you do manual white balance and manual exposure control, to limit the blown highlights on your face. But the Panasonic is better.
I use my Canon Vixia 800 in B/W mode at night, the noise kinda looks film-like. Kinda.
Make sure you turn on Power IS, my 800 defaults to Power IS off when first powered on.
@@sansone9651 Hello. Please allow me to give you my opinion about that: try it, and if you like it, keep taking pictures with it. I am a photographer and I take pictures with everything. Every device has its charm.
Montrenco Perez thanks, i’ll take photos of my wife and my cat.
Review the Sony AX-53. That is actually a very good camera for vlogging
Really looking forward to that Johnny and the Lemonade Boys movie
"This one's 300 dollars. That one's 80,000 dollars." Finally...someone puts it in perspective.
Why do they do it..
... "DOOOO IIIIT?"
G85 looks super nice with that 40,000 dollar studio light. The camcorder sucked big time. Just get rid of it. The Sony action cam was years ahead of the Canon vixia camcorder. I have a feeling they do it on purpose so people by full frame for better quality and then the cine cams for even better quality. Seriously Canon why?
What he said.
150 dollars vs 700 dollars....
Just bought a Panasonic AF100A camcorder. Was $5000 in 2011, now $660. This proves two things:
1) camcorders are not dead
2) people spend way too much on the latest and greatest
I have one too, bought it last year for $1000
@@manilamartin1001 Camcorder Conspiracies!
me too. but bought legendary Canon HV40. yes it tape based camcorder. but i'm suprisingly it still have a very good video quality MPEG-2 HDV even in 2020! xD
isnt that the camera AVGN uses? (before his GH5)
@@SantiagoMonroy5 Never heard of AVGN, but if so, his/her taste is absolutely impeccable. Almost done editing a feature we shot with two AF-100s, because the second was only $560 and came with a Rokinon Cine DS 50mm :-)
The camcorder nailed that background focus every time!
I started UA-cam with a Canon HF R600. Really for the money, you can't go wrong with it. Shot 1080/60, has IS, unlimited record time, flippy screen, decent mic... And I used a wide angle adapter for vlogging.
Stalk Peter Mckinnon with that camcorder or your SX50. Zoom into him jumping over a fence or kicking snow? Go through his trash and find old Gopro's and SLR's! He catches you and invites you in for a coffee. Could it happen?
i just died, lmao
Alan C no but the local police would have some coffee while you sit and wait in jail
Best comment ever!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Cinema mode wasn't bad.
Why do camcorder footage always look like bad porn? Or so I've heard.
There is no such thing as bad porn.
Just saying.
The audio cues are certainly one of the highlights of this channel. Loved the brief moment of the "heartwarming" track playing during the birds bit.
i would call for help but I'm sure you filmed this six days ago, died of jaundice, and your cat uploaded it.
Canon is hilariously bad indoors but I like the home video vibe it has outside, or like a local tv station in the 90s reporting super local events like the favourite chicken in town befriending a hamster that used to be shunned upon.
This takes me back. I had a couple Canon Vixia HF 200's to make study tutorials for tests in college years ago. For what I was doing they did the job and were a great entry level camcorder for someone just learning. Also they were affordable. You gotta start somewhere. Not the best cameras for vlogging though I would imagine. This is good content.
"when your grandpa pulls out his old one from the 80's" ... I had a very different picture in my head 🙄
Ok man chilllll!!! I am not ready for these back to back videos like I have a life to live! I can't keep abandoning shit for ur videos i'll probs get fired. 😭
But yeah keep em coming tho. ♥️
oh thank you!!! I was so pleased you skipped over the blue movie feature, right before the twang twang music started. With you, an unmade bed and a few potted plants my head was starting to spin 😂👍
Enjoyed this video. Keep up the good work. Might be time to do a segment on video camera comparisons against your Sony x3000. Battle of the mini sensors! Olympus has a TG Tough Tracker for under us$200 (discounted) with a "smaller" 1/2.3" sensor, 5 axis stabilisation and a fast f2.0 lens?!!. Did I mention it also has the 'flippy screen'? Camera is green though so might make you stand out some what in a crowd.
It's the only channel where I come/go back in time.. watch again and now it's 2020 and CC at this time 2019 has no idea what his 2020 vids wil be !
Lmao this was funny asf you got me when you said that you had the Panasonic...o gosh I should've wrote that down 😂
G85 looks a lot better
Dude when the aliens shot lasers at you 🤣🤣
Great info, great content.
😂😂 far out I love your humour. No one can tell me anything about cameras except for you good sir.🤘😎
In the year 1171 Jack Zoom was playing with a crystal, an orca tooth and a squirrel's tail, when he accidentally invented the audio recorder.
I shoot all video with a goPro
I have a shiny Photography, oh wait a landscape "click" camera for pictures.
The G85 is better, better white balance and sharpness
For some reason the background out of the G85 was just... extra delicious. Just the right amount of yummy background blur. It made me happy to see you being separated so elegantly from it.
The Canon? Oh yeah, it definitely recorded some video there.
canon colours suck ..... did they cripple it by removing half the colous?
that's what i was thinking
Possibly, it looks God awful.
Never letting us down, well done!
Video is looking much better with these lights!
LAV MIC?! I THOUGHT THAT WAS CHEST HAIR... LOL
I like the old-timey filter… defo for the board room meetings methinks… LOL
Love your vids! Will you do the xa50 at some point? I just got one. We film RC airplanes and we do want everything in focus if possible. I shopped around and landed on the xa 50. We have worked with the 60 and 70d and a Sony a7iii. All seemed like a bigger deal than it needed to be. Anyway thanks for being hilarious and for keeping it real. All we ever wanted was the perfect camera as well. RC Aircraft capture aka photomasochism
The Panasonic HC v750 ...I still have it. It’s better than that canon camcorder. Far sharper. And the corner sharpness is off the scale.
I own one of those Vixia cameras in good light OK. Strange stabilization on mine frame is exposed. Perfectly good for vlogging. I think your current setup with G85 and proper lighting is kicking major butt.
The background behind the birds was so blurry it gave me chills :)
With the light it's a huge step up in quality. Looks awesome!
Since Canon hasn't put anything on the Market worth reviewing this year, this was a good choice to review ;)
I like when Kasey calls me a loser in every vid.
I'd love to see you try the Sony AX53 camcorder. It's got crazy good stabilization, plus night vision which can be fun. Thanks!
Oh my God i'm on the floor lol would you see that movie... It's coming out soon lol.
The wide angle adapter plus the cinema profile looked the best. Wow, that has a teeny-tiny 1/4.85" sensor.
I thought the same about the cinema profile.
The HF R700 is what I use. I bought mine used on Ebay for $99! My biggest complaint with it is I need soooo much light. It looks pretty good outside in natural lighting. Plus you can't trust the flip-out LED screen. It always looks brighter than it's actually recording. Very frustrating to get your shot set up "perfect" then pull it off the card and it's too dark.
Your video's are like a train wreak I cannot look away. Save me.
Thanks for the laughs
Loved the suspenseful background music .... but it was also scary .... 🤪🤣🤣🤣
Great video, you crack me up! How did you do the external audio from the X3000? Thanks
zoom h1.
@@cameraconspiracies you sync the audio or do your run a long line to it?
@@ScottOwens28 Sync.
The Winter Effects filter makes Thailand look like Canada :)
CInema mode with the $7 wide-angle adaptor was surprisingly good, and if it would focus on your face would be good to go.
There's a manual focus mode where you can touch your face on the screen and it locks focus.
Just some tips on the camcorder. I have the HFR800. I imagine it is similar to the 700 as it is a slightly newer model. Setting the zoom to "advanced mode", gives you a wider angle out of the gate. Set the audio recording to manual and adjust as needed. Set the "audio scene" for recording music for more natural sound. All the other audio scenes dynamically compress the audio and remove the bass response.
I got my HFR800 refurbed last month for $128. They can be useful for video and vlogging but you have to dig into the numerous settings to get the best out of them.
The G85 segments repair my soul after seeing the Canon indoor footage.
I think it's time to test the *FF C700 MARKii*
A liver related malady 😂 Nearly fell off my chair!
What are you using at 6:11? That video looks slammin'!
Have you ever tried the Panasonic FZ80? I know, no flippy, and small sensor, BUT the video quality and zoom is pretty amazing, for the price. Just curious if you tested it.
You’re acting skills are great you should consider getting into making movies mate, 🤣🤣🤣 seriously I really enjoyed your video brilliant. The camcorder footage looks totally washed out though have a lovely weekend. Cheers 🍻
Lost it at the lasers bit
We just wide angled ourselves into the universe 😂😂 Dude, I'm dying right now
Not just top notch but "top of the notch" that's next level notchiness. 2:49
you know i don't watch most videos all the way, but I watch yours most of the way : )
I thought these video would lift the mist on camera selection but I get more confused with every episode. I think I'm going with the Fuji and the Granny flip screen... and then ask my Granny to direct.
Aperture of F128, codec from iphone 4 and plastic zoom lens. Fantastic combination
Is it just me thinking the lines about what makes up the old camcorder specs would have made a great board meeting? Plenty of laughs though my God I think I laughed just as loud as the jokes when you switched to Camcorder audio indoors. I literally blurted
“We don’t use those anymore....like tampons” hahah love it
“Fricken car jacks!” 😂 ... totally related to video cameras.
All we want is the perfect camcorder
Yo what wide angle adapter are you using?? Can you link?
By the way I love camcorders.
Gotta love the diamond ♦️ lens flares!
Those were neat :)
I like the interesting lens flare it made
@9:50... post sound/music editing mistake with the start of the jingle with 3 notes, then - nothing. haha. Me thinks you were going to insert one of your closing tunes there, but then changed your mind and forgot? Love ya man 🙏🎥📹
That was on purpose. I started the magical song when the bird took off and it stopped right when he landed.
@@cameraconspiracies Nice! I will never doubt you again :)... 🐦🦉
I cant hold my laugh in at all watching these videos.... Lmao! 😂😂.
That camcorder was focused on background. Odd because those normally use phase detection sensors below the lens. Did you have it on MF?
It’s the camera apocalypse 😱
I use 3 Canon Xa 11 for multi camera event shooting I love them the quality is pretty darn good, 1080p, small file, great IQ, and no record limit, for other stuff I use the Nikon Z6 now great camera.
Kasey, you already have the ultimate combo. X3000 for vlogging (discrete little friend) and the G-85 for your in studio videos. Nothing better today :)
Camcorder wasn't good but wasn't bad all situations...get that very unblurry background at the birthday party
2 pm is super golden hour
OMG!!! ...UFO BOKEH AND LAZER BEAMS @8:58 ...its surely a sign...not sure of what tho..
I dunno...that Sony Ax700 is pretty attractive to me. That canon you picked is total junk. Doesn't even shoot 4k and zero manual features. I own mirrorless, cameras, a camcorder and cinema camera. I mostly shoot with my cinema camera, but a good camcorder isn't necessarily a bad thing. Something like the sony ax53 shoots 4k, has good image stabilization and a really sharp image. It's small, great zoom and no need to swap a lens and miss the shot. Plus no record limits. Different tools for different situations. Even still, always like discussing this topic and of course you always entertain me. Keep up the good work!
hey look up the Yongnuo YN450 Android Camera and do a video on what you think about it.
I have that camcorder. I use my 80D for my gaming videos, but I was wanting to use this camcorder for the longer recording sessions. I was very disappointed in the image quality as it was not sharp at all, has a low bitrate so just looks silly, and I don't think it looks any better than my Logitech webcam. Despite having very low megapixels, it seems to have an excess amount of noise, even with 2 softbox lights, a ring light, and a small aputure light. Honestly wish I never bought it lol
I remember a time before i was subscribed to Camera Conspiracies. It was a sad time.
Weird you make this... At work we've got a Sony camcorder that I NEARLY tossed before testing it. Honestly, it's got solid 1080p, AMAZING optical zoom, and the best optical stabilization I've ever seen. Honestly for like $200 on ebay, absolutely better than any entry dslr people get.
Better than EOS RP ;-)
Wow your Panasonic looks great today. What did you do???
Your indoor setup with the new light is looking so good it's no wonder the aliens want a slice of it - Canon's crippled colours was the only thing keeping them home.
Outdoors? Well, let's just say the rest of my comment will be backlit by Sony...
...was it good? Can you read it?
Woo!!! That corner sharpness tho!!🤣🤣🤣
Did you check out an Olympus om-d em-1 MK ii ? MFT but with phase detect AF. About the same size as G85 + a flippy screen - could be the perfect camera ? hahaha
You are the funniest f**ker, I swear, that lemonade bit almost killed me, I laughed so hard I almost crashed my truck. Help me!
Don't watch UA-cam videos while driving. 🤣
I enjoy the r800 in the areas it shines. Particularly stabilization, quality zoom, sound and battery life. I just cant justify any further expense to get a wide angle adapter.
Check out the Sony FDR AX53 as well if you can!
Your spoiling us 😍🤣
The camcorder footage make you look like you are in a bad greenscreen effect
I thought I'd never buy a camcorder, but I got one for a specific purpose only a few times a year. Any camcorder will be really good at image stabilization, and they zoom forever. I use my camcorder for school plays (I'm the parent in the back with the camcorder but I don't care, it zooms right up there), and my kids sporting events. Basically any situation that requires a ton of zoom and where I image quality isn't the highest concern. I have a full frame mirrorless kit, a DSLR kit, a 1" compact camera, and a camcorder... each is a tool that shines in its own way. If I brought my FF mirrorless to my kids soccer game, I'd need a huge/heavy lens to too zoom out there (it'd look great, but that's a ton of overhead).
Always a good laugh! 😂
For vlogging, I like the hell out of that Canon-corder.
Just change the exposure compensation so that the highlights aren't blowing out and it should look pretty nice.
What was the make wide-angle lens that you used?
G 80 loser 5 looking really good with that new loser light.
Can’t help but clicking on your videos :)
The camcorder at 220/195 for updated version and Sony X3000 368 dollars both did fine considering the cost. Camcorders are great for content. I like to use a Sony AX53, Rode VideoMicro and a MeFOTO Tripod which combined cost me 940 shipped. Already paid for it self. The image quality is just fine. Boss stabilization amazing. Auto focus is actually not bad. I can pull focus via the ring as well. Also white balance etc etc even the funky white card trick is available. Has a touch flippy screen, zebras and focus peaking. Can even do a focus auto zoom then snap back. I can zoom crazy far and very clear. Control the camcorder with my phone. Shoot 4K 30 and nice 1080p. I can do more adjustments with the DSLR but the camcorder is so easy and pack able. Not that large at all. I do want to replace my Nikon one day but the camera companies don't want to give me the flippy screen.
Wow... That chromatic aboration when the Canon is zoomed in is actually intense! This makes me think that I'm definitely spoiled by the DSLR image quality. I always feel like it isn't good enough but it could be much, much worse.
