- We got the Sony zv1 in for testing. This is marketed for vloggers as the best vlogging camera of 2020. I've been pretty vocal about it not being wide enough at 24mm, especially with the digital stabilization crop. But was I wrong? What if we put it on a long tripod? How does it compare with the Gopro 8?
Let's test out some of the features like autofocus, stabilization, 480p and 960p slow mo! How bad is the crop? Let's find out!

It's actually a really fun camera, that 480p slow mo is hilarious! Sorry for the user error on the Gopro at -1 EV at dusk lol. I'll test it again in the next vid vs the Idolcam and Olympus EM1 III with some pretty shocking results.

Quick tip, when using s-log it's recommended to ETTR by at least like +2 EV and then bring it back down in post. Great video though this one was a lot of fun!
Sony by a mile. The image is notably better and the gopro wide angle distortion sucks. It makes the arm look like a giant toothpick in the frame.

The thing I love about this channel is, at the stage I'm at with cameras, I wanna learn more about cameras just so I can get all of his in-jokes.
I hit like and then made a comment before even watching the video. I know this is going to be entertaining.
The, “what is he going to say next” suspense coupled with laughing can’t be good for my heart.
I have a new theory about vlogging. If you want to film the background just film it, behind the camera and filming the scenes. One can do narration and commentary in these situations behind the camera too. When you actually want to "Vlog" with your face in the scene, I think it's interesting to have a close up shot like they do in cinema where your face fills most of the screen. A 35 mm lens (full frame equivalent) will accomplish this excellentlly. There was a guy who filmed a ton of stuff in Japan over years, basically day to day life back in the 1990s and 80s with the camcorder. 90% of the video would be him filming his surroundings but every once in awhile he would turn the camera around and point it at his face where he would say something (the earliest known vlogger in history). He is on UA-cam where he has been posting all these videos, unfortunately I forgot his name. That is why I think there are many different styles of vlogging.
The walk and talk shot is incredibly boring and overused today. Not only is it more aesthetically pleasing to cut to the b-roll with narration it’s also easier to think of better narration in post this way. The only person I want to see walk and talk are Casey Niestat or Camera Conspiracies.
@@codyjwoods agree but many creators like the walk and talk format because it’s easy and doesn’t require much thought, skill or attention to the camera when using something like an action camera. There are many travel vloggers who are quite successful with this format and another plus side is their videos require little to no editing. I’m thinking of guys like Harald Baldr, Bald and Bankrupt, Volpe, Kurt Caz and others. If you look on social blade this sort of vlogging is very successful.

Thats what I thought as well when I watched their reviews...
It's wide enough not to fit anyone else in the frame and the Toneh is good enough to make sure they're blurry if the corner of their head makes its way in the frame.
That was the most tension-filled, danger-filled street crossing ever recorded on this channel. That kinda makes me want this camera to cross my streets in NY.

Nobody has talked about the real phase of this Sony; cropped in by 4k and still tight with 1080p. Why no one talks about it, which is the most important but you. That is why smart people come to your channel and listen to your advice - REAL.

to see you using it as a proper vlogging camera the way a vlogger really would and not just pretending to be a vlogger and the additional side-by-side comparison with the GoPro which does seem like it is the current vlogging champion. The video quality from the Sony just blows the GoPro out of the water.
Considering I'm already well in the Sony ecosystem with my a73 this may have given me a reason to look at a new camera again.

P.S. did you catch that where Tony told the world that he watches your videos? In their 1 million subscribers video, he clearly stated he does not watch any other photography channels however he does watch "comedy!". If that wasn't an Easter egg acknowledgement of your greatness I don't know what would be. Keep it up Casey. Soon all the camera companies will be begging you to help them design the perfect cameras.
This is actually a really fun camera to use. It has some definitely flaws though, so stay tuned to tomorrow's video to explore it further :) It punches high above it's weight though that's for sure.
Looks great to me, yeah could be wider however overall, size, image, audio etc... all looks like a winner.
They need place the flippy screen in front of the lens, so you don't have to look off to the side.
Yeah with a hole in the screen like in the Galaxy S10
I can’t disagree with your comments about the angle of view, but I’ll be dammed because I’m buying it anyway. Image quality and autofocus are so good. I can live with the angle of view. GoPro still better for some situations of course.
I’m in love with my ZV-1 it’s perfection for what I need from a camera upgraded from Sony A6000 after so many years and I don’t miss interchangeable lenses for my workout videos at all.

11:28 the problems you're having with the product focus is due to the fact that you are holding the objects outside of the center 60% of the frame (roughly). Every time you got it back "close to center" the stick came into sharp focus.

I think the product showcase feature will only activate on objects that are near the centre of the frame, which is why sometimes the flowers didn't grab focus as they were too far left. I guess it's the same for the tripod, it went outside the centre so it ignored it.
Looks to be a great cam, great IQ, great sound, great AF + cool trick software.

Honestly out of every video you have made (and I have watched just about all of them) this video is the best looking quality (for focus, color, stabilization and all around) out of all of them. I think the ZV-1 may be it... I had just ordered a G-85 (I still have a G7 and GH5) and had not opened it yet to use as a light quick camera but after seeing this quality I am returning the G-85 and ordered a ZV-1... I don't care about the not so wide angle when I can just put it on a longer tripod or stick and solve that problem... Good job.
I would absolutely use the ZV1 over the G85 for vlogging. I think you'd need aps-c or even full frame to even notice an image quality increase.
@@cameraconspiracies So which tripod do you like better? The SIRUI 3T-35 or Anker Nebula one I see you have now... I have the Sirui and is pretty solid but the Nebula looks like it may be easier to hold...
