If you've ever thought about joining the military but wondered what it would be like to raise children during your service; or maybe you're in the military now and you're preparing to start a family. In this video, we speak with my friend Desiree, who's an active duty officer in the Air Force and also married to another active duty officer. She grew up with military parents, so she understands the lifestyle of the "military brat," so to speak. And she's here to answer some common questions about what it's like growing up as a child in a military family, and what it's like being in a mil-to-mil relationship.

My Dad left the Infantry and joined the National Guard to see his family and that’s how he met my Mom because my Mom was also National Guard.
My Mom was a Staff Sergeant.
I was born at a VA Hospital but my Birth Certificate says I was born at Mather Air Force Base.
I was born in 92 the base closed down in 93 something to do with the Cold War.
I kept my Military ID as a Souvenir.
My Brother continued their legacy by joining the Army and now has four Kids.
My Sister is Air Force and had her first Child last year.
I’m kind of jealous that my Nephew was born in Japan.

Thank you for this video. My daughter is in the AF and she's married to an airman and they are planning on starting a family. I think it is very hard to be a mother in the AF. I wish you could do a part II covering the topic of motherhood in the AF.

@@ashleynoelle I'm a African American airman so it means alot to see representation. it makes me proud to serve seeing faces like mine.
I'm shipping off to basic soon do you have any advice?

    • @ashleynoelle

Just try to enjoy it, that's the best advice I have. It'll be challenging at times, and stressful, but it's designed to be that way. The real Air Force is much more like your typical day-to-day life, so don't be intimidated by people yelling at you or the abundance of restrictions. In hindsight, you'll have a lot of really good times with your unit and you'll probably look back on it as a fun experience overall. I made a video previously about the top ways Airmen get in trouble at bmt, so feel free to check that out. Good luck!

Growing up as a Military Child there were some good times and some rough times.
    Colorado
    Good Times
The good times I had in Colorado was playing in my dinosaur sandbox and blue swing set in the backyard. Also the Halloween celebration I had with my class and teachers in Dakota Valley in October 2005 just before I left for Hawaii. I have pictures of me in a witches costume. I also made a glass turtle and frog in art class in 1st and 2nd grade. I also went to the Denver zoo when i was in 2nd grade. I also enjoyed Friday Afternoon Club with my class in 2nd grade every Friday before I went home from school for the weekend as well playing Starfall and Keybo in Miss Chapmans room whenever I did not have class work in Miss Hales classroom who was my 2nd grade teacher and I would sit in bean bags. I also liked the purple couch that the school had at the time and I was sitting on it a lot. I also went to an arcade for one of my friends birthdays from school. I also went to the Butterfly Pavilion too with my school. I also enjoyed reading Henry and Mudge in 1st grade and Froggy in 2nd grade and Lyle the Crocodile in 3rd grade in school. I also enjoyed with playing with toys in Kindergarten. I also liked my Hawaii themed party on my last day of school when I was leaving for Hawaii.
I also had fun playing with Ryan and Emma who were Shawns kids who was a friend of my dad. Another person that my dad knew was Ken and he would see me ride my trike when I was little and we have the same birthday together in fact he came out to Maryland one time some years ago and I got to see him.
I also enjoyed going to the Aurora Mall and riding the carousel and going to Park Meadows mall with my Mother one time and Cherry Creek mall and play at the play are that used to be breakfast food back in the day. I also like Chuckie E Cheese and Mcdonald and I played in the playland a lot unless if I was sick with something. I also would play at the Orange Park and this park that reassembled a log cabin. What was nice about this park was that I would walk to this park from my house. I also enjoyed the Trails Recreation Center and swimming the pool there and I did that once with the girls scouts I was a brief member of this organization.
I also would have gluten free treats in Colorado whenever someone one in school had a birthday or there was a celebration. I had gluten free orange cake for my 4th birthday. I also would go to Dances parties at a hotel for the military and I would play with other kids while my parents danced back in the day and this was how I met my friend Nadia. I also went camping for my 8th birthday with my parents and Dog Koda and got angel and devil socks for my birthday. I also celebrated my friends Phoniex birthday with him one year I have a picture of me at his party.
    Rough Times
At school one time I ended up on the wall for recess for 10 minutes. One day in 2nd grade a girl named Asia asked me to skip class with her to go to my Chapmans room so I went with her and I did get into a little trouble when I did this. One time I even walked around the whole school by myself I can not remember if it was during class time but I took off and I got in huge trouble for that.
Like moving to Colorado to Hawaii was rough for me when I had to switch schools. I was in 3rd grade at the time of the move and I was in the middle of a school year.
One time I took too long to get out of the bath one night at my house and My mother counted to 5 and I did not listen to her and she got mad. One time when I was younger i walked around the house without my clothes and I used the bathroom all over the house and my mother was so mad at me. One time I also had to stay home from swimming because my room was too messy in the house.
I was also offered food from stranger in the Orange park one time and I shook my head no because they had Cheetos which I could not eat at that time because they had gluten in them and I then ran over to my mom and in the car when we left the park she told me you did the right thing.
I also had fear a water slides so I would ride the blue and green water slide with my dad at the Trails center.
Also my dog Koda was mean to me a lot. He would knock me down. He even got into my soup while I was upstairs doing something and when I came downstairs he some how got himself on to the chair of our dining table and began eating my soup.
    so yeah

I also enjoyed going to the Ala Mona Center. I would go there for the Disney Store sometimes as well as the Build a bear workshop. I also went into Jungle fun once or twice. I also would go to Sears if my dad needed something for the house. I also went to Macaroni Grill there for a good bye party for one of my dads coworkers who was leaving for Texas at the time.
Also one time for Valentines day in 2007 my mother had won a gift basket at the Commisary after I had told her to enter the drawing for it.
For my 11th birthday in June 2008 I went to Farrels with my mother and grandmother since my Dad was in Korea for my birthday and he stayed in Korea for 2 weeks at that time and he got some south korea hello kitty dolls. which I still have today and I also had an Open season themed cake. One time I was in the Deep end with two other girls and the life guard asked me how old I was I told him I turned 11 because I just turned 11 at that time. That was when I found out that you had to be 11 or older to swim in the deep end by yourself . One time my friend Ian who was Gabby's older brother and his friends vandalize a shed and they spray painted the shed black and wrote DIE on it. They were making so much noise at one point that Brandi had to tell them to keep it down. The boys were lucky that their parents did not get in trouble for their Vandalism. What is the weight requirements for a 33 male, 5'9.

    • @ashleynoelle
      @ashleynoelle  2 роки тому

For Air Force, there isn’t a particular weight requirement. It’s more about overall physical fitness. You can see the fitness test requirements here www.afpc.af.mil/Portals/70/documents/FITNESS/5%20Year%20Chart%20Scoring%20Including%20Optional%20Component%20Standards%20-%2020211111%200219.pdf?ver=5t5V-6NAFFYCQQuhB05ZTw%3d%3d. You’ll need to pass the cardiorespiratory and muscular fitness portions. You have to have at least a 75 overall, and you can’t fail any individual portion.
