My command (Marine Security Forces) recommended 2 Article 15s against me. First one (UA) was 1.5 months before my EAS and the second one (disobeying a lawful order) was 3 wks before my EAS. I turned down both Article 15s and requested court martial instead.
The thing about Article 15 is, before you even step in front of the CO, it’s very one-sided and they already know what punishments to give you. Standing in front of them is just a formality. I rather take my chances with an impartial jury/judge.
My command decided not to fight me at court martial due to insufficient/lack of evidence. Have I accepted Article 15, my CO would have hammered me.

@@invisiblesun6595 It would be interesting to see how many member brought to court martial are ever found not guilty. Seems like the fact that you are there is evidence enough for many of the small minds in the service.

These days? It pretty much means ineligible to reenlist. Once upon a time they were used as correctional tools, not force shaping ones. Nowadays it's a one strike and you're out military. May as well do away with them altogether and instead just code the service member ineligible for reenlistment whenever their actions warrant a non-judicial punishment.

This is why I would never recommend the military to any young person. Do you dumb stuff in civvy street and you can easily bounce back, not so in the military!

I got one (in 1992) when I was in the Air Force (Article 15 Suspended). From what I was told the Air Force were a lot stricter than the Army? Apparently, in the Army they used to hand them out like confetti? In the Air Force (back in the day) it was some serious stuff. I don't know what the Air Force is like now? This Uniform Code of Military Justice is one of the things that they don't tell young people about before they join the US military.

I got one, 1997, The commander pressured me to sign within a day, my area defense council was out of town, was told that it didn't matter and that I had to sign or go to a court martial.

If you're in an expendable career field (administrative generally) it will mean something and affect you. If you're in a critical career field that the military has difficulty retaining people in, it won't mean anything and you'll get promoted anyway. So basically how much it means depends on how valuable you are to the service, or how difficult you would be to replace.

Hi! For any disciplinary actions you might be facing, I recommend not posting about it here, but instead speak with the defense counsel on your installation. They’ll be able to help you best because they’ll have info on your specific situation, and they’ll have the ability to work with you and the people involved directly.
