I know this is an older video Ref the slow charging - they had set one of the charging options at 6amps instead of 16a for the home charger, which made things worse than the already limited 3.6amp system on the car Also the same battery capacity in Europe gave 50+ miles and since this video they have unlocked the US cars??? I've seen conflicting info on that.
I think that the 45e is the X5 to get now (Especially considering the $7500 federal tax credit makes it cheaper than the 40i S-drive). Where a lot of BMWs seem very over priced (*cough* 3-Series *cough*) the X5 seems like it is priced not just to be competitive but a near bargain when put against other European SUVs. It's not even that much more than the GV80.

picked up a 2022 x5 45e 8-speed a couple months ago after watching this video. have a range rover supercharged and had a e63 wagon = insane. while the ripping roar of these v8s is good fun, the bmw is very refined - it really feels like this car was made for me. i come home after work, throw it on charge, and it's charged in the morning. most of my commute is on electric, but i can always flip it over to hybrid or sport for more power. all of the BMW ui, infotainment, ergonomics definitely beats range rover by a mile, and it's about even with mercedes at this price point. if you're trying to decide between a range rover sport and the bmw -- it will probably boil down to seating position and possibly the brand name. while the range rover suspension linkage is more sophisticated, the x-drive is arguably better city and highway driving. if you're deciding between Mercedes GLE450 and the X5 -- just go drive both. i wanted to like the GLE, but i found the GLE to be a sad boat
That is good to know on the GLE. I suppose with the X5 45e, 120V charging is adequate since it charges slow no matter what and the battery isn't very big

If you ran one of these for years until the hybrid battery failed (assuming it'd fail at some point) could you still drive the car like a regular petrol car.g albeit with higher fuel consumption? A lexus hybrid for example wouldn't run with a failed hybrid battery, but I'm interested to find out if this 45e would run with a failed hybrid battery?
Can the car automatically switch from hybrid mode to regular gasoline without manual intervention from the driver from time to time? What is the driving range, how many miles on a full electric charge?
I never start on hybride motor, I make sure the engine is on operating temperature. driving 30mph and then suddenly a cold engine switches on at 30mph... not good for the engine
Great video mate. I’m considering to buy one, but I’m slightly confuse because BMW is gonna release a new restyling version of it in 2023. In your view what do you recommend to buy the existing one x5 45e or wait until the new one will come out? note: currently BMW is offering a special price for existing one. Thanks in advance
I would wait. The new 24 model will also add a 50e phev with more power and longer electric only range of over 60 miles. It will have the large curved screen you see in newer model... downfall of having fewer buttons.
We have a Model Y, and I would say the X5 is a better package overall as an only vehicle. Better luxury vehicle, excellent chassis, and more versatility. If you have more than one car in the household, or you do nearly exclusively city driving, then maybe the Model Y would be a better choice.
True. I have a phev Pacifica minivan and I love the ev portion of my daily drive. I’m actually in the middle of a quick road trip and I love how we were able to drive 400 mi yesterday in middle of no where rural area not having to worry or waste time charging the car but just do a quick 5 mins fuel up. Hopefully one day we would be able to do the same quick trip in all ev.
@@Wasabi9111 I drive a Tesla model 3 and absolutely love it, but if the Pacifica came in a all EV AWD I would buy that in a heartbeat. Model 3 isn't ideal for wife, 2 kids and 2 dogs.
The charge time is a surprising fail considering how smooth the powertrain appears to be. I guess BMW did not consider recharging timeframes for real life scenarios.
He was incorrect with his statement about the 240v charging time. You actually get around 5-7hrs charging. Still I believe BMW need to do better with the charging rate of speed. Need to get that down to 3-4hrs with 240v.

If you charged up once, and drove 400 miles in hybrid mode what would mpg be? Does it recharge the battery as you drive like a regular hybrid or are you carrying dead weight after the battery depletes down?
I've done 3000 miles in mine, about 1000 on electric only, 2000 on petrol. Avge petrol consumption over the whole period 53 mpg. And yes, it does recharge the battery as you back off the throttle.
Love whenever you drop new videos. Maybe I'm spoiled being in CO but your roads bore the hell out of me. Its just endless on ramps and getting on/off the highway. Are there no backroads where you are?
You heard wrong on charging. No way 17 KW (usable) battery pulling 3.8 kW from on board charger (BMW….pathetic…really?), is it “10,12, even 15 hours” on 240. 5, 6 hours max on 240 at 90% efficiency.
It's crazy to think that this is 1,000 pounds heavier than an equally sized Toyota Highlander hybrid. Admittedly the Toyota is slow by contrast but if you're getting a hybrid that MPG is a big (if not the entire) point. Setting aside plugin numbers, the X5e is getting 20-21 MPG and the Highlander hybrid is 35-36... that's significant. There's obviously a market for this (and x5 are sold out everywhere!) but the hybrid efficiency on this SUV is equal to or less than a full blooded gasser. From what I read its also got low 100's in HP in full EV mode... talk about Jekyll and Hyde!

I never start on hybride motor, I make sure the engine is on operating temperature. driving 30mph and then suddenly a cold engine switches on at 30mph... not good for the engine
I wish topher could do a review on the 2009 rx8 r3
Why didn't you test the Santa Fe plug in...?
Looks like Carbon Black with White interior... Is that correct?
Nice review! What kind of real world mpg economy would you get on these? Thanks I’m advance 🤙🏽
As Raiti's rides will say, having the rear windshield wiper visible is a zonk!
Beautiful interior
I regularly get 36/37 miles pure electric range from mine.
I wish the X6 had the phev treatment too!
does anybody who knows the music is ? At part of sound system test! Thanks a lot!!! 23:44
As your SUV of choice, would you prefer an X5 xDrive45e or a Model Y Performance?
If you care about build quality I’d say go for the BMW
We have a Model Y, and I would say the X5 is a better package overall as an only vehicle. Better luxury vehicle, excellent chassis, and more versatility. If you have more than one car in the household, or you do nearly exclusively city driving, then maybe the Model Y would be a better choice.
A Model Y is quicker, but an X5 is better in nearly every respect
Do you have any recommendations for a college students first car out of all the cars you’ve reviewed?
Huracan.
Something in your price range. Buying is one thing, maintenance is the other.
What’s your price range??
Something cheap, something reliable. Think Corolla, Civic, etc.
Corolla
On 240 it took me around 4.5 hours from 0-100%
This may be a dumb question but was the steering light?
only 30 miles from a 24kw battery?
It’s funny how on all PHEV reviews, the best thing is the EV driving... You would think they would just make all EV versions
@@eganjos1 totally agree. I really want an ev but right now I need the utility of a minivan. I can’t wait for a full ev minivan.
does it have double pane side windows?
Are this sport drive
boxy will Love it😍
Is this vehicle good for road-trips ?
Good balance and handling for an SUV...one more subscriber..
Hey man! Love your videos. Can u kindly try to review a HAVAL H6 please
Full electric mode the horse power is limited to 110 bhp.
Do plug in hybrids HAVE to be plugged in? Or can they be used like a normal hybrid? Plugging in just available to get more charge?
They can be used like a normal hybrid. Plugging in is available just to get more charge
Plugging it in allows the car to run more efficiently otherwise the engine is going to be on way more often to keep the battery charged.
Congrats On 300k just got my first car it’s amazing it’s a Mercedes really nervous to go out and drive but I’m confident I can get out there and do it.. Chat and Topher please help Xtreme out I wanna enjoy it and not feel anxious and panicking like a lil wuss
What Mercedes? Once your used to driving you should be able to enjoy the Benz. I’ve driven a car couple of times, I wasn’t that scared since I’ve driven golf carts many times.
@@e70_x5_guy4 I got a c230 Kompressor 2000 it’s really a boat in handling maybe that’s just Mercedes but I’ve been practicing on a sim rig I don’t know if that’s forcing bad habit or helping me in anyway but I’m trying
But then when I think about it me being from the hood I could die any day go drive your Benz you worked hard for it
@@XtremeMontage I never think about that. As I have said, I’ve driven before and I’m a careful driver
@@e70_x5_guy4 so I’m just being a Chump and need to go drive
How efficient is the engine able to top up the battery while driving?
In S more you could regen a few miles possibly, coming from own experience
If you charged up once, and drove 400 miles in hybrid mode what would mpg be? Does it recharge the battery as you drive like a regular hybrid or are you carrying dead weight after the battery depletes down?
I've done 3000 miles in mine, about 1000 on electric only, 2000 on petrol. Avge petrol consumption over the whole period 53 mpg. And yes, it does recharge the battery as you back off the throttle.
Can you use the battery for powering heaters and such without running engine?
Can u do a Mercedes s class
Love whenever you drop new videos. Maybe I'm spoiled being in CO but your roads bore the hell out of me. Its just endless on ramps and getting on/off the highway. Are there no backroads where you are?
The x5 45e I drove had lots of wind noise....
I have been tryed for x5 45e
It snows in Texas?
can't wait for the incoming iX, the only suv from bmw that will make sense
Ugliest SUV ever
Does the car convert between EV and engine itself? Or, do you have to switch it yourself?
in hybrid and and some times in adaptive yes, honestly it switches great and smoothly
About the engine going from stone cold to full throttle, how does BMW figure out how to deal with this? Heat cycles every now and then?
I have one, you will not be sorry. Great car!
i feel the driving smooth from my seat :D
not a fun fact: The phev is the best selling X5 in Europe
What does phev means?
@@muramasa870 plug in hybrid
@@muramasa870 Plug-in hybrid electric vehicle
You heard wrong on charging. No way 17 KW (usable) battery pulling 3.8 kW from on board charger (BMW….pathetic…really?), is it “10,12, even 15 hours” on 240. 5, 6 hours max on 240 at 90% efficiency.
imagine a hybrid m50i
It does have 394 hp not 389
It's crazy to think that this is 1,000 pounds heavier than an equally sized Toyota Highlander hybrid.
I like the car ,I like you, I like me, I like everyone lol
Nice car ❤❤
